Adding Printer as a scanner in print service role (Distributed scan server), would it be possible in windows server 2008 r2 !!

Hello All
I have a sharp printer that support scanniing as well and my question is :
I want to getting use from manage scanner service role that is belonging to the print service role in windows server 2008 , which has the feature of passing the scanned document to users shared folders which are exist in the same server.
but when i try to add my printer as a scanner it did not accept .. so i cant proceed with my objective, which is allowing users to pass their scanned docs to their shared folder
Any idea ?

Can i scan to network shared folder without adding the used credentials, i am looking for this distributed scan features for this issue.
now each time new user will come i will create for him a shared folder with his username and password then i will go to the printer web base page and add this shared folder to the address book, but i need the user to come to add his password. how i can tell
the printer to authenticate him and directt his scan to his shared folder without asking him to enter his password to be able to create an address book for him ?? any help
Thanks in advance !

I recently had a new server installed, a Proliant with a Windows Server 2008R2 operating system. I now just discovered that my All in One Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus A 910 will not install on the Windows Server 2008 R2, ïncompatible operating system. Does anybody have a workaround or solution?

    Hello dawnp,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with installing the printer on to your Windows 7 computer.
I suggest that we start off by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If the Doctor fails, please let me know where it failed as well as any error codes you may see.

  • Unable to print to local Printer over RDP - Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
    Windows 2008 Foundation R2.
Started to have issues with printing to a Local printer over RDP.
The problems started on Friday 11th April. The only possible issue I can identify is that around that time LogMeIn was updated on the server, including the LMIPrinter DLL's.  I have contacted Logmein for instructions on how to uninstall LMI completely
and followed these but am still experiencing the problem.
When attempting a Test Page print the confirmation that the Test Print has been sent to is displayed and the print appears then disappears in the Print queue but nothing appears on the Local PC print queue or event logs.
    On the server the Event Log shows the following error;
The document Test Page, owned by admin, failed to print on printer Canon MG7100 series Printer (redirected 2/copy 1). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 142691. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\ONESTAGE-TS01. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2147500037. Unspecified
    error
I have searched for possible solutions to RDP printing problems and where relevant implemented them but no change.
I have access to a second customer who uses RDP and am able to log onto that and print to my local printer so am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the local printer or settings.  On the Server with the problem the problem affects all RDP users
and all printers (including Adobe PDF printer and MS XPS printer).  All printers are defaulting to the EasyPrint Drivers.
Grasping at straws I think the LMI update has banjaxed something with the RDP remote printing and an LMI uninstall hasn't fixed it.  Is there a way to reinstall the RDP Printing?  Would uninstalling & reinstalling .NET have that effect?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What’s your client OS and RDP version in your environment?
First of all suggest you to run “sfc /scanow” with this link to check whether which file causing the issue. Check the RDP version on the RDP client computer as well as the .NET framework version with respect to the operating system used (as explained above).
Also verify that the RD Session Host / Terminal Server role is installed if the host computer is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008.
The setting “Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first” must be set to “Enabled” for Easy Print redirection, and it has to be “Disabled” for Legacy Print. For “Not configured”, Easy Print is chosen by default.
Check The Remote Desktop Configuration Tool (tsconfig.msc) settings to ensure that the “Windows Printer” option is not disabled (it is not disabled by default).
Make sure that the “Printers” check box in the client (mstsc.exe) window on the “Local Resources” tab is checked. The corresponding setting in the associated RDP file is “redirectprinters:i:1”.

  • OS 10.6.3 and Remote Desktop for windows server, PDF Printer problem

We are using Remote desktop for mac by windows in the office to work on a remote windows server, On the server we are using a business software (Mamut) for sale. In OS 10.5 we are using the PDF Printer to transfer PDF (invoice) from the business software (Mamut) 'Mamut is seeing the PDF printer as any other printer' to the desk top of your mac, so we can attach the PDF to a mail before we send it out to a customer, but in OS 10.6 the PDF printer is removed! So we need a different way of transfer the PDF from the windows server to the mac desk top.
So now I am wondering if any one has a suggestion on how to fix this! if not we can't upgrade to OS 10.6, and that would be a shame!

The thing is that in Mamut, we hit print, and because we us the PDF printer as Printer for Remote desk top, it pup up on the desk top of the mac, as a PDF. But in OS 10.6 there isn't any PDF printer to install, so then we have to make a PDF on the windows server and move it from the server to the mac, by mounting the HD from the Mac to the remote desk top, so it become edible in from the server. I think this is cumbersome.

  • Installation of Client Access role fails on Windows Server 2008 R2 (Execution of: "$error.Clear(); Install-ExchangeCertificate -services "IIS, POP, IMAP")

    Hello
I am trying to install Exchange Server 2010 beta 1 onto a Windows Server 2008 R2 (build 7000) machine which has also been set up as a domain controller.
However when attempting to install the Client Access role, setup fails with the error below.
Does anyone know of a way to get around this please?
I have already searched for this error and not found any similar threads.
Also every time I press the code button on this forum it crashes the browser and I keep losing the message! (IE8 from within Server R2). Also the message box is very small, will not expand and keeps jumping to the top.
    Thanks

    Hello
    Thanks for all the replies.
I have since wiped the system and installed everything again and it all worked this time so not sure what was wrong last time. I did try to uninstall all Exchange components and then uninstall IIS and Application server, reboot and re-install but I received the same error still when it came to installing the client access role.
Walter: I just attempted the standard installation which should have used the default self-signed certificate. Everything was a fresh install done at the same time on a freshly formatted PC.
For info last time when it failed to work:
    - Installed Windows Server 2008 R2
    - Installed Domain Controller role using dcpromo. I set the forest and domain as Windows Server 2008 R2
    - Added a forest trust between main domain and test Exchange domain (set up as ex2010.local)
    - Installed IIS and Application Server role
    - Installed Hyper-v role
    - Installed Desktop Experience feature
    - Installed Exchange and recieved the error
When it worked I set up the forest and domain in Windows Server 2008 mode (i.e. not R2), installed Exchange first and then set up the forest trust and then Hyper-v. It did say it failed to configure dns which was probably because it started trying to do automatic updates half way through the dcpromo! DNS seems to work ok though.
I did notice this time that Hyper-v gave a warning about the virtual network adapter not being set up correctly and the local network did not work correctly although I could access the internet. Not sure if this could have been related to the cause of the problem previously. For now I have disabled the virtual network until I get time to try and get it working and so the mail will work in the meantime.
I also noticed that Hyper-v added an extra 443 ssl binding to the default website so as it had 2 bindings on port 443 it refused to start. After deleting one it worked.
I decided to install Exchange onto a domain controller as it is only a test and I wouldn't do it in a live environment. I am also short of test machines! It didn't give me any warnings about this actually, I think previous versions warn you that it is not recommended.
Andreas and Chinthaka: I did not know about the requirement to run the domain at 2003 mode. The main domain is running in 2008 mode with Exchange 2007 so I assume this is just a temporary beta related requirement. It does seem to be working (second attempt) so far in a 2008 mode domain although I haven't had a chance to fully test it yet.
    Thanks
    Robin
P.S. Sorry it's taken me a while to reply!

  • What is required to install in remote desktop server services - windows server 2008R2 for VMs internet access ?

    Hi!
I have a lab with a hyper-v host with windows server 2012 R2 (in workgroup).
I have many vms since Windows Server 2003 including WS 2012 R2.
My colleagues an I wan't to acess lab vms from desktop (windows 7 e 8) trought the internet.
My understanding this can be accomplished with remote desktop server services. What I need minimum
to install in version Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1 (enterprise edition) 64 Bits ? Best Regards
    Best regards

you need a small VM, 2-4GB RAM that's internet facing in order to host RDWeb role which runs on IIS.  users connect to the web page portal and login, and can launch an RDP session to whatever VMs you have.  this requires you to obtain RD CALs.
you can also go with the RDGateway route but it's somewhat more complicated, requiring certificates.
in either case, you need a server with specific port forwarding to the internet through whatever firewall/proxy you have and licensing to go along with it.
it's much easier to just setup a VPN in my opinion.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer not working after promoting to Domain Controller / AD Services

An associate and myself installed the built-in drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus multi-function (network) printer on a Windows Server 2012 Standard server installation and everything worked fine whenever I want to print anything directly from the
Windows Server machine (there's a reason for this, so please understand that ;)  ).
We were able to print without any problems from the Windows Server 2012 machine, using the drivers from Microsoft.  Mainly, because HP has not listed any specific support for Windows Server 2012, only Windows Server 2008 R2, however, the drivers that
came with Windows 2012 seem to work very well.
PROBLEM: I later had to promote the Windows Server 2012 to a Domain Controller, and created the Active Directory configurations, even enabled the Print Services.  After doing all of that, the HP printer will not print anything.  It's like all print
requests directly from the Windows Server go to Nil.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? The only thing I can think of is that after perhaps something affected printing directly once we promoted the server to being a DC, and added other features / roles.  I even tried installing the
HP drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2, and the results are still the same...nothing prints.  Trust me, the printer is set as the Default Printer and even when choosing to print, we make sure the HP OfficeJet Pro is selected, and is on, as other Windows
Client PC's can print to it directly.
Does anyone have any suggestions we could try?  Thanks in advance.

While it is quite a while since this was posted - I can concur a similar issue exists.
We have spent the better part of a day trying to work out why other HP printers work fine but our 8620 prints are not printing and going to Nil.  The print server is hosted on a shared DC.  Comparing to the initial posters details, for some reason
it seems to be most commonly related to the OfficeJet Pro 8600/8610/8620/8630 series printers.
I ended up doing a print server migration from the domain controller to stand alone host and all printers now work from a single server rather than a mix.  Domain controller OSes varied from 2008, 2012, 2012 R2 (tested with multiple) and only after
all of those failed then tried a stand alone server os machine as a last resort which worked fine.  Printing directly from Win 7 / 8 /8.1 clients to the IP always worked.

  • Unable to print from MS Word: "The Directory Service is currently unavailable"

Hi! I hope you can help me. Please note that I have a Windows XP computer (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, 32-bit). When I initially installed a Brother printer (model# MFC-J475DW) in Dec 2013, I had no problems printing documents. My problems
started about 2 days ago. I got an error message after I opened a MS Word document (.doc) and clicked the Print button to print a document. The Printer "Name" field was empty.  I clicked the dropdown box in that window and saw 3 options:
    1 - Brother MFC-J475DW Printer
    2 - Brother PC-FAX v.3.2
    3 - PaperPort Image Printer
When I selected "Brother MFC-J475DW Printer," a Microsoft Word dialog box appeared, saying the following:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?"
I can either click on a Yes button or a No button. Either way, I'm brought back to the Print page. When I click on the OK button to start printing, another error message appears:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
    *Reinstall the printer driver."
I have a choice to click either OK or Web Help. I click the OK button to close the box, then return to the Print page. When I click on the "Find Printer..." button, the Find Printers window appears for a moment, then is replaced by this error message:
"The Directory Service is currently unavailable"
On Friday (Mar 21), when the error first occurred, I was able to print a letter in MS Word after un- and re-installing the Brother printer and its drivers. The problem reappeared the next day (Saturday). I don't want to do that every time to print a single
page, so would you please recommend a solution?
By the way, I am able to print a test page from the printer in Control Panel, and I can print from a Notepad document. Also, when I go to the Control Panel, select "Printers and Faxes," then right-click on the printer (Brother MFC-J475DW Printer),
then select the Ports page, there's a check mark next to USB001 (not LPT1 or COM1). When I click on the "Configure Port..." button, I get this error message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. This operation is not supported."
Earlier today, I got a reply from brother.com's tech support (thanks to the 1 year warranty). They said the problem is on my PC, not their printer. However, they provided links to completely uninstall the printer, then reinstall it. I did just that, but
the problem persists. I'll download OpenOffice.org's Office Suite to see if I can print documents with their software instead of MS Word. Until then, I await any suggestions.
I hope this info is helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.

I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that.

  • Windows Server 2008R2 running Remote Desktop Services reports printer process does not exist when installing PDF printer

Windows Server 2008R2 running Remote Desktop Services reports printer process does not exist when installing PDF printer, And when Installing network printers from the domain controller it reports it cannot connect to printer.  I can ping all
network devices. I can connect to the internet.
On boot I get a netlogon 5719 error followed by service control manager errors 7023,7001 and a group policy error 1129.
Clients can connect to the remote application and RDP operates to connect to the server internally and externally.
The domain controller is another server 2008r2 box. I have scoured the internet but have not found any solutions that work yet.

    Hi,
After referring to your post, it can be identified that the issue which you are facing is mostly due to some network issue in your environment. Please recheck your network connection issue between computer and domain controller.
Can you able to ping with IP address and also with fully qualified name of a domain controller in the users' and computers' domain. If it fails states that name resolution issue with computer and domain controller. Are you using MS DHCP Relay agent then there’s
available Hotfix for the particular Event ID. Please go through this KB 2459530 to fix the error event ID.
As per the net logon error 5719 which you are facing states that the client component of Netlogon was unable to locate a DC for the domain it was trying to perform an operation against. Below is one of the reason. If this is being logged on a DC and the event
refers to the DC's own domain, something might be preventing the client component of Netlogon from starting a network session (to itself or to another DC in the domain). The following event 7001 & 7023 states start & stop operation service. Please
go through beneath article for more details.
    1.  Event ID 5719 is logged when you start a computer
    2.  Netlogon 5719 and the Disappearing Domain [Controller]
    3.  Event ID 1129 — Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy
    Hope it helps!

  • I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service?

I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service? I don't want to print it on our home printer - I want to print multiple copies for family members through the Apple iPhoto book printing service.  Can anyone help me please?

There is no Apple print service for iBooks, and iPhoto can also only print photo books created in iPhoto.
Print your iBook to pdf. Then you have several option:
Save the pdf to a thumbsdrive/stick  and take it to the nearest print shop close to your home.
Search online for "self publishing" services available in your country.
Recreate your book as an iPhoto Book. This will be a lot of work, since iPhoto's templates are more suitable for Picture books than books with lots of formatted text. To speed things up, you could use "Preview" to export the pages of your book as jpegs (high quality, at least 300 dpi) and add themas full-page photos to a new PhotoBook. This can be sent to apple for printing.
But the first two options would be much less trouble and probably be less expensive.

  • Cannot Print. "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable"

    Hi there
I cannot print and I have not been able to find the fix via existing forum threads.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 : Use scanner without print heads/cartridges

    Hello.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 (CB023A) that I bought specifically because of the automatic duplex scanner. Buying a scanner with automatic duplex instead of this multifunction printer was out of the question because the cheapest one costed over ten times more than this multifunction printer (and they still do).
I can no longer afford to keep buying print heads and cartridges just to use the scanner, as this multifunction uses ink for scanning!!! But that is beside the point.
I have read in other posts about taping sensors but I was thinking about going a little further and completely remove the printing part of the multifunction. Anyone knows if I can just disconnect the printing part from the circuit board? Or will I have to fiddle with software? Maybe some hidden option in the "Mfg Commands" (accessible by pressing * and # with the printer on) or some other hidden feature?
Considering that this multifunction takes way too long to boot because of all the print head checking/cleaning/etc, with a little luck, without the printing part the boot time will decrease to almost nothing .
Before I start disassembling I would appreciate some advice, specially if someone else has already tried it.
    Thank you in advance.

Hello kamath27. Thank you for your reply.
I apologize for not replying sooner but I wanted to try and disassemble the multifunction before replying instead of just replying with an acknowledge.
Also, sorry for such a long post but I wanted to be as detailed as possible.
However, before describing what I did and found, I want to clarify something.
With the multifunction in the same condition it came from the factory, if I remove one print cartridge, or one is empty, the multifunction stops on boot with a message requesting to change the cartridge before continuing and there is no way to bypass it. When this message shows, pressing any button on the multifunction or the screen yields no result (there is no OK button displayed on the multifunction screen). It was always like this and firmware updates never solved it.
And going to the printer control panel on the connected computer says that the printer is offline even if it is connected through USB and is displayed in device manager as a connected USB device. This is the reason why I had spent so much money buying ink that I do not use. I never print anything on this multifunction. All prints that the multifunction ever performed were a dozen or so of maintenance align and test pages.
Now for what I did. I disassembled the multifunction just enough to take out the main circuit board, the wireless board, the buzzer and the door sensors. I set up the printer half and the scanner half side-by-side with the main circuit board in the middle, reconnected everything and turned it on in order to test if anything stopped working during disassembly. Everything was OK and the multifunction worked as normal (printed a test page and scanned it to the computer).
Next, while facing the main board the same way it would be faced while mounted in the multifunction, I started disconnecting the connectors (except the ones that belong to the scanner half) one by one from left to right in the following fashion: With the multifunction OFF, I disconnected one connector, turned the multifunction on, waited for any message or the main screen, tried to print a test page and then scan it, and finally disconnected the multifunction, reconnected the connector and moved on to the next one.
    The results were:
    - disconnected the tray feeding sensor -> Allows to boot with a paper jam message that can be bypassed with an OK on the screen. Can not print because of the alleged paper jam but can scan.
    - disconnected the pump -> Allows to boot but a message keeps popping about pump motor stalled. Can be bypassed with an OK but pops right back and all jobs get aborted. Can not print or scan.
    - disconnected the printer motor -> Oddly, no messages. Allows to boot and scan but not print. This was strange because when trying to print there is no message in the printer and the software on the PC only said the printer was busy. I would think the printer would eventually display a message saying the print carriage was jammed or something but nothing happened after 10 minutes. I might test again later as one test may be interfering with the next.
    - disconnected the print cartridge door sensor -> Stops on boot with a message to close the door. Does not allow to print or scan.
    - disconnected the print cartridges connector -> Stops on boot with message to replace cartridges. Does not allow to print or scan.
    - disconnected the print heads connector -> On boot briefly displays a screen with the image of the power button and the code "C00E0060" below. Then the screen turns white and all buttons on the multifunction start blinking. It is as described here but resetting the multifunction, reconnecting the connector and turning it on took it back to operational condition.
    - disconnected everything except for the scanner connectors and the tray and door sensors - Gives the exact same behaviour as the previous test (code "C00E0060").
So, from the tests it seems that I can not use the scanner if anything from the printer half is disconnected. Any ideas on how to circumvent this, if possible?
    Thank you.

    Hi there,
I understand you're looking for drivers for your PSC 1210 on Windows 7. I will certainly do my best to guide you in this issue.
At this time there are no HP drivers available for this printer for Windows 7. You can still use the printer with Windows 7, you will just have to use the drivers available within Windows 7. That document will walk you through what you need to do in order to get printing again, and will also show you how to scan with this Windows driver.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Please help me buy a printer and a scanner.

    Hello:
I am in hope that I could please have some opinions regarding purchasing a new printer as well as a scanner. I have done research, however I have read these forums and marvel at the great deal of hardware expertise that emanates from so many posters. I have only owned one printer, an ancient Canon bubble jet that no longer works.
My system: Mac Pro 2 x 3.0 GHz Dual-Core with an Apple Cinema Display; software: Adobe CS3 Design Premium and MS Office 2004; OS: Tiger 10.4.11.
This purchase is not for use in some busy design studio. Everything would be for my sole use in my small Manhattan apartment.
I would like something that prints my Photoshop and Illustrator files very well along with good photo reproduction. I will be doing brochures in InDesign with insertion of Photoshop and Illustrator artwork as well as some PowerPoint slides. I need something that prints text well also. It would be great to have a printer with which I could print my business cards (as well as brochures) utilizing a somewhat heavy weight paper.
I was initially tempted to get one of those all-in-one machines, however, I rarely have to fax or copy anything. It seems to me that if I want to copy something, I could just scan it into my computer and then print it. Regarding faxing, I am assuming that I could also scan and then fax utilizing the fax software that comes with the Mac OS (hopefully the software worksnever tried it). I could get an HP all-in-one on sale for as little as $150.
Another printer that I was considering is the Epson Stylus Photo RX680 (again an all-in-one). Macworld gave it 4.5 mice. I find myself sort of dismayed with its having an LCD display and photo retouching software that I obviously dont need. The cheapest price I have seen for that is around $130 (maybe). I tend to be a little skeptical about these online prices until I actually make the purchase. The scanner has an optical resolution of 1200 with 9600 x 9600 interpolated (not sure as to what interpolated means in this case).
I find myself more drawn to the Epson Stylus 1400. This was recommended to me by Epson pre-sales support, however I dont feel cynical about the suggestion.
As far as Epson goes, what would be more of a fantasy printer for me is the Epson Stylus R1900 (cheapest price I found is around $500). What particularly strikes me about this one is that it can print on paper with a heavy weight. That would be great for my business cards and brochures. While for me it is a little high in price, I am still considering it.
Another possibility that I have looked at is the Canon Pixme Pro 9000. This was an Editors Choice with PC Magazine website. I found a decent price with a rebate. The review says that it would be a good choice for graphic artists.
I find it confusing as far as the difference between a so-called photo printer and an inkjet printer. According to the Epson guy, it does not seem to matter.
For a scanner, the Epson person recommended the Epson Perfection V500 ($169 w/customer loyalty). It has a 6400 x 9600 dpi resolution. While I dont know much, this seems to be good enough for me, both for capability and price. I have read some good reviews of it.
Thank you to all who would care to comment on any printer or scanner options. I find myself almost dizzy by all of the possibilities and I am open to any suggestions and any manufacturer. I am without a printer and I hope to make a purchase with the next few days.
Also, thank you to all who simply bothered to read this very long posting.
    James

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my posting. (Of course, as I write this, I am hoping that you will be back to read this.)
I agree about avoiding the all-in-ones. As I wrote before, that is something that I was initially consideringmainly because of my problem with space. All I have is this old non-functioning bubble jet that came with my first computer (an almost 9 year old but still working, rarely used anymore PC). So, anything that I get will be absolutely glorious.
Regarding printers and with your help, I have now narrowed the possibilities to the Epson Stylus R1900 Photo Printer and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000. Both have eight color tanks and are able to print on paper with a heavier weight. I am still considering the Epson Stylus Photo 1400, but not as much. The more that I think about this, the more I feel that maybe I should do something nice for myself and buy something that I would really enjoy using. I did some looking into low priced lasers such as a Lexmark and a Brother, but I really dont know what to make of them. I do know that the price of toner for color lasers is very high.
My background has been mostly from doing freelance work in various advertising agencies and design studios. Consequently, the printing was really never up to me, so my knowledge of color management, paper types, and printing is limited. I feel that finally getting a good printer would be helpful in my upgrading those skills. Of course, I am without a printer anyway, so I have to buy something. I also want to look into marketing myself. The employment market here in NYC is so saturated that it is ridiculous. I truly wish that I could find somewhere else in the country to go, both for space and peace of mind. But, I digress.
Both Welles and Allen have a strong difference of opinion about the possibility of clogged jets. Im sure that both gentlemen are being honest regarding their experiences so Im a little confused about the possible problem with jets.
One of the things that I like about the Epsons is that they have the capability of printing on CDs. I dont believe the Canon is able to do that. As far as price goes, they seem to be somewhat close (Canon might be about $50 cheaper).
There are a lot of reviews of the Canon 9000 on Amazon and most of the ones that I read (there are 106 reviews!) are glowing, however some complained that even if the product were defective right out of the box, Canon would only send a refurbished replacement. Im not sure as to what to make of that, but it might be something to consider. Also, at least one reviewer did write that Epson is more friendly to Macs regarding color management.
I am even less sure about scanners. Thank you, Lundberg02 for mentioning VueScan. I never heard of it before, but I did find it on the Apple site. However, I really dont understand about avoiding the V500 because of the 6400 x 9600 resolutionI was under the impression that that was fairly good. Also, I dont understand what you wrote about native resolution being 800 spi. Was that supposed to be 8000 dpi (6400 + 9600/2)? My main experiences with scanning are last minute calls to this huge advertising agency where they had me do tons of scanning. I was so busy that I didnt even pay attention to the machine that I was using, but a safe bet is that it was far more expensive than I could afford.
Neil, I have started looking at the Canonscan 9905Fit is comparable in price to the Epson V500at least on Amazon. Yours has a resolution of 4800 x 9600 dpi while the Epson has 6400 x 9600. Does it make much of a difference? Also it was helpful that you mentioned about only having to clean the Epson jets if you havent used the printer after a month. That may be the case with menot constantly using the printer and I wondering about the inks simply drying up. That was definitely the case with the Canon bubble jet that I had.
Again, I guess that I have been too verbose in this posting. But, for me, these purchases are a big decision. Typing is easy for me and words sort of fly.
I respect each and every one of your opinions and I really do thank all of you. Not just for your help regarding the above, but regarding all of your other postings on these Adobe forums. I envy you in that clearly you love what you are doing with your respective careers. Of course more comments are welcome.
    Thanks.
