Additions to pacman page

Hi archers. In light of recent discussions about pacman on the mailing list, I did some reading about pacman to understand it better. This prompted me to add some info to the [wiki]pacman[/wiki] page on the wiki. Here's what I would like to add:
1. Several distros, such as Debian, have different versions of shared libraries packaged as different packages: libfoo1, libfoo2, libfoo3 and so on. This way it is possible to have apps compiled against different versions of libfoo installed on the same system. How come there's only one package per library in Arch?
Arch is a rolling-release cutting-edge distribution. Only the latest versions of all packages are supported. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense to have old versions of libfoo in the repository - no packages in the repository depend on the old libfoo.
2. Say I have an application called foobaz2 installed on my system. foobaz2 depends on libbaz 1.5. What will happend if a new version of libbaz, libbaz 2.0 becomes available, but there's no update for foobaz2?
This scenario is possible, but not very likely. If foobaz2 package has versioned dependency (e.g. libfoo=1.5) it will be removed during an upgrade of libfoo because of a conflict. If it does not have a versioned dependency for some reason, then it will break after the update. In this case, you should contact foobaz2's developers and ask them to make foobaz2 work with latest version of libbaz.
3. What's the deal with the example above, where the latest version of the kernel appears in the repository before packages that contain kernel modules, such as catalyst, are updated for that kernel? Wouldn't it be better if both the kernel and all module-containing packages appeared in the repository simultaneously?
Not everybody has catalyst or any other package that contains kernel modules installed on their machine. Users who don't need the catalyst package have no desire to wait for it to be able to upgrade their kernel. So, it is you responsibility to make sure that the kernel and all packages that contain kernel modules are upgraded simultaneously.
I would like to have your input first, though, because I'm not 100% sure about the factual accuracy of these Q&As. Also, any other corrections are welcome.

Re question 2: The question is ambiguous here - we don't know whether foobaz2 is in the official repo or not. So it should probably be like this:

In most cases, this scenario will not arise at all. Assuming foobaz2 is in the official repository and builds successfully against libbaz 2.0, it will be updated along with libbaz. If, however, it doesn't build successfully, foobaz2 package will have a versioned dependency (e.g. libbaz=1.5) and will be removed by pacman during libbaz upgrade due to a conflict.
If foobaz2 is a package that you built yourself, you should rebuilding foobaz2 against libbaz 2.0. If the build fails, report a bug to the foobaz2 developers.
Re question3: I didn't know that catalyst is a unsupported package. The wiki doesn't make it clear. In fact, [wiki]pacman#Upgrading packages[/wiki] makes updates look scarier than they really are. I'll see if I can make it clearer. So then question 3 becomes:

No, it's not possible. Major kernel updates i.e. 2.6.x to 2.6.x+1 are always accompanied by rebuilds of all supported kernel driver packages. On the other hand, if you have an unsupported package, such as catalyst, installed on your system, then a kernel update might break things for you if you don't rebuild catalyst for the latest kernel. Users are responsible for updating any unsupported packages that they have installed.

Auto Pay Program : query in Additional Log Tab page in F110

Hello Experts,
In T-Code F110, on Additional Log Tab page, could you please explain for whats the purpose these check boxes, their meaning/importance & when all/each one of them could be used :
1. Due date check
2. Payment method selection in all cases
3. Pmnt method selection if not successful
4. Line items of payment documents
This something which worrying me & i request your help.

These check boxes determine what to be written on to the logs.
For instance, if 'Due date check' is ticked, and if an invoce does not meet the criteria, it will be written on the logs. But, if it is not checked, such data will not be available in the logs.

TOC update generates additional TOC reference page

Hello,
I'm working on documents with embedded table of contents (as a text insert in the document itself). To update the embedded TOC, I choose Special > Table of contents, save and close the TOC file, and then update the text insert. Normally this works without problem.
However, for one document, with each TOC update an additional "TOC" reference page is generated in the TOC file, and therefore all adjustments (such as paragraph numbering) are lost.
Every time I recreate my formats on the reference page, i.e. add nothing but <$paranum> to the respective entries, the next TOC update creates an additional reference page named TOC with standard entries.
I've already deleted the TOC and generated a new file, but I'm having the same problem again each time I update a TOC
Any suggestions what might be wrong?
I'm using FM 8.0p277 on Windows XP.

Did you not get an error message about "generated files not updated" when the ToC had unavailable fonts?

Are there additional templates for pages .. like tickets?

No, I haven't see any, you have to create those yourself or see if you can find a Word template and open that.

Yes there are plenty of third-party templates available for iWork applications. Try doing a search on Google or software download pages such as MacUpdate or VersionTracker.

Is there a way to download additional fonts into Pages? If so, where can I find them?

I was wondering if there was a way to add new fonts to Pages. I recently purchased a new iMac that came standard with Pages. I'm resisting the urge to install Microsoft Word as I prefer Pages in many ways. However, I'm frustrated that I can't use/find any unique fonts to add to Pages like I can do with Microsoft Word. I create documents that I sell online and would love to be able to only use Pages for this purpose. Instead I find myself having to reformat documents in Word just to get the font I want.

Go to the App Store and type Fonts into the Search bar. You will see a large array of fonts you can download. Many of them are free. I downloaded the MacFonts Holiday fonts last year, and they show up anywhere I have a font dropdown.
With any of the MacFonts, you just download it, then follow the instructions for moving them into your FontBook app.

Upgrade to ver 29.0 keeps loading "Committed to you, your privacy and an open Web" in addition to home page every time Firefox loads.

Can't find the setting or switch that prevents this additional an unwanted window/tab from opening everytime. Maybe once upon download but it repeats everytime and won't go away.

hello, this might happen when firefox is not able to properly save preferences in its profile folder. please try this: Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and then click help [[Image:Help-29]] > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder". then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.

Addition Error in Pages

Hi, I did a sum function in Pages, adding 16.63 four times. Pages gave me 66.50, instead of the correct answer, 66.52. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

The only error is yours.
Check what is really stored in your cells.
It's not 16.63, I guess that it's something like 16.626
and that you asked the app to display two decimal digits.
Doing that, it display 16.63 which is the value of 16.626 rounded to two digits BUT the cell's contents remains 16.626.
Use correctly your app and you will get correct results.
If you want to display two decimal digits, apply the ROUND function to the values which must be summed.
If your cell contain the formula : =myFormula,
edit it as =ROUND(myFormula,2)
This way the app will really store the value 16.63 and the sum will be 66.52
Don't forget that computers are dumb. They can't guess what you are really wanting. They just do exactly what you ask them achieve.

Safari 5 URL bar searches page title in addition to URL

I just upgraded to Safari 5. Now whenever I start typing a URL in the URL bar, it gives me suggestions based on the page's title in addition to the page's URL. I want to disable this new "feature" and go back to the old functionality where it only suggests pages by URL.

I agree, I do NOT like this new feature. Say I earlier went to an eBay sub-page, now I want to go to the eBay home page. I start typing e-b-a-y and it autofills the URL for the eBay sub-page I visited earlier.
I do not want to go to that one, so I press "delete", which simply removes the autofill suggestion and also the "y" in ebay, so I type the "y" again and the same suggested page fills in.
So now in order to go to the eBay home page I must type "ebay.com" whereas before I could just type "ebay".
Before Safari 5 these "already visited pages" would show up as a drop-down window, which I could scroll down to and choose if that's where I wanted to go. Now, though, that they're coming up in the address bar I'm forced to go there or type in the complete URL.
How can I turn this feature off. I know there's a Terminal command to do it, because there are Terminal commands to turn on and off many other features of Safari.
I do not wish to simply use Private Browsing because that turns off suggestions from my Bookmarks.

How to call additional Enrolment page from SAP Logon?

Hi Team,
I have a requirement here to customise the SAP logon page.
My requirement is, when a user logins in with his User ID and Password and when he clicks Logon then it should redirect to my Enrollment page(only for the first time login for certain users) and in the enrollment page we got some additional fields to be captured for security reasons and that fields will be stored in our local database and then it will pass the control back to my SAP application.
Is there any method where we can call the additional enrolment/registration page from SAP Logon.

Hi Akesh,
As per my understanding, you should amend your login page by writing a new servlet which will communicate with your database where you have your ids.
It means flow would something like below
1. You enter userid/password into the login page of SAP EP and click on logon button redirect the request to newly created Servlet and check.
2. After check if enrollment required then open new jsp page for this else redirect the request as original flow.
3. Once enrollment is done then at submit button, first we it should save the data then again redirect to original flow.

Store data in R/3 without page refresh

Dear BSP-Masterminds,
we need to store data in R/3 without a recurrent page refresh. The problem is that our engineers are using PDA's and the page refresh is taking too much time. The engineers are changing equipment data on the PDA's. Every time they click on save button, the data get send to the R/3 system and the checking, if the data are correct, takes up to 30 sec. Additional the new page refresh on PDA takes another 20 sec. It would be great to find a solution which stores the data somewhere and by hitting the 'final save-button' the data get checked and saved.
The worst case scenario would be a table of around 600 equipment data, so it might be a huge table that has to be stored somewhere. I thought of a client side cookie but I have no experience if it is possible to store such a big internal table and by the way I don't know if this would be possible on a PDA.
Every little hint is welcome!

Javascript as such can't do it without refreshing the page. You need to use the AJAX function. But you don't need to be scared about it. Just look at the web logs I've mentioned and you'll understand it quickly.

File Manager Not Showing Duplicated Page(s)?

Hi all,
I'm using ICE to create "landing pages" for my client's site. I have set up a 'site' for each landing page in the ICE 'file manager'. In addition, each landing page has its own directory on the server, in which the index.htm and associated image files are contained.
My first question is, if I duplicate one of these landing pages using the 'Duplicate Page" button, how do I get to it when I log back into the ICE file manager by clicking the 'Manage Sites' button? The duplicated page doesn't show up there.
In other words, I'll be making pages that share some of the same links as the 'regular site' does, but are 'hidden'. That is, they have a specific URL that you can only get to in a browser if you know the exact URL.
I don't see a 'listing' of all the pages I can edit if I click on a URL in the Manage Sites/file manager. If I click on a Website URL link, the 'home' page (index.htm) opens, without any apparent way to navigate to the duplicated page.
Am I making any sense? Anyway, thanks in advance for your help. ICE is an awesome service you are providing.

I'm very sorry for the delayed response. I don't know how your message was overlooked.
Your question make sense. Without a link from the index page to the new duplicated "hidden" page, your users will have to navigate directly to the page, then use Ctrl/Cmd+E to enter the editing environment.
That is, they have a specific URL that you can only get to in a browser if you know the exact URL.
What you've described here, using the exact url, is how editors/publishers would have to access the page to edit it.
