Address Book Issues

I just this week finally upgraded from 10.4.11 Tiger to the latest Snow Leopard through the Mac Box Set. I had some minor issues with a few things, but my biggest problems were with my contacts in Address Book.
After the installation, I looked at my contacts in Snow Leopard and only 40 of 225 had migrated over to the new system! Fortunately, I had, of course, backed up my main drive as it existed under Tiger just prior to the system upgrade, so I restarted with drive 2, opened Address Book, exported my contacts file to drive 1, restarted again with drive 1, and imported the exported vCards file into Address Book in Snow Leopard. This seemed to work well enough, as all of my 225 contacts were back.
But then I decided I didn't like the picture I had attached to one of my contacts and decided to replace it with a newer one. I tried every approach I could think of but I could NOT get rid of the old picture. I deleted the old one several different ways and chose the new picture to replace it and then save the entry, but no matter what I did, if I went to another contact and back to this one, or stayed on this contact, closed Address Book and reopened it, every time I returned to the contact with the picture the old one was back. Argghhh! One of the things I thought was interesting is that every time I clicked to choose a new picture, the "new" one was there and I could "set" it, but it would not stay set when the contact was reopened. Finally, I had to resort to deleting that card and re-entering the information from scratch with the new picture, and that worked.
I suppose I'll never know why only 40 of 225 contacts migrated over when I went directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Some would probably say that's what I get for waiting, and maybe they're right, but does anyone know whether imported vCards are typically less editable than entries that are entered by hand?

Thanks for responding Herbert. I have not tried that. I'll be on-site on Thursday and give it a try.

Time Machine Locked after MacBook Air reformatted. My MacBook Air was overfull due to an Address book issue (duplication) so after many attempts to clear space, I ended up wiping out the system and reloading Lion. This resulted in the Time Machine thinking that it was now connected to a different computer. Apparently this diables the existing information.
Now I can see that the back-ups exist (back to Sept 2012) but they are greyed out, therefore unavailale to restore. Again, this seems like an issue that shouldn't be happening. The whole point of the Time Machine is to enable reinstatement of data after catastrophic failure. What if my computer actually had to be replaced due to a hardware issue? How would I beableto restore anything?
    The path already (unsuccessfully) taken;
Open Library on the computer, Open Time Machine, Select Correct date, drill down to correct data you wish to restore, click "Restore".
This did not work because the correct date was greyed out. Restore key was greyed out.

  • Troubleshooting Address Book issues using Palm Desktop for Mac (v. 4.2.1) and a T3?

Can someone please make suggestions which would correct the following issues?
    1) When printing an Address Book from my Mac, the information in the "title" field prints twice. (I have checked my Preferences settings & reviewed how I have entered the information, etc. and everything is in order; also, an Address CARD DOES print correctly --- and --- after syncing to my T3 and then to my husband's PC, an Address Book prints correctly from the PC.)
    2) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "zip code" entries appear BEFORE the "city" entries on the T3. (The zip codes appear correctly on my Mac and print out correctly.)
    3) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "contacts" all appear in BLACK on my T3. Is there any way to show the different "contact categories" in COLOR on the T3 as they were originally entered in my Palm Desktop for Mac?

  • Address book issues: duplicates and syncing to phone

I know this is a common problem, and why Apple cannot offer a better solution, or system, is frustrating.
The problem is basically multiple entries in my address book.
I know the issue has to do with icloud, but I cannot figure out how to eliminate the multiple entries without going one by one and deleting.
And I hestiate to do this because I am afraid they will come back.
Frankly, I am very frustrated with icloud.
As far as I am concerned it has caused more problems than it is worth.
I am ready to disable it totally.
Problem is, if I do that now, then all of my contacts in my address boook disappear.
Part of the problem,. I know, is that I still have a mobilme account, and somehow I have two icloud accounts.
Question: is there any way to merge my two icloud accounts, so I opnly have one.
Or can I just delete one? If so, how?
Another problem, I cannot get my addresses on my mac to appear in my iphone(4).
I have tried selecting the sync option to replace all addresses on my iphone, one time, with the addresses on the computer, but it doesn't work.
Certain addresses on my computer do not appear on my phone.
The other day, I went to my phone to call a contact andf found I had about 6 entries for every contact.
I had to go in and disable a bunch of accounts, and finally got back to onbe set, but now some contacts are missing.
Why a simple solution to eliminate showing duplicate entries cannot be found is frustrating.
Seems simple to me: if the info is duplicated, don't show it.
Seems like this simpkle rule could also apply to alerts: everytime I get an alert on my phone, it shows up 5 or 6 times in a row.
    But that's another post.......

    Great.
I think the TM restore would have been much quicker. I was under the assumption that everything was good on the Mac address book.
Not sure what happened since then.  Did you read my post (at 2:01pm above) before things went wrong?
"Try this. Disable iCloud on your mac. Select to keep contacts on the computer when quiting. Verify address book contains all your contacts. If you don't have a backup such as TM, export address book contacts so you will have a backup.
Your address book should have been correct or you could have corrected the contacts then and you would have had the backup files exported if you didn't have or trust TM.
Go to the iCloud website and delete all contacts there.
At the iCloud website, you should have been able to select all addresses at one time and delete. That would have left no addresses in iCloud. Only addresses left should have been on your Mac from the last step.
Once done, go back and log into iCloud on your computer and merge the contacts. The website should now contain the addresses from your address book.
Unless something else was wrong and creating multiple contacts, the only addresses in iCloud would have been merged from what was in your address book on your computer.
I don't know what happened or where we went wrong. I'll check back in the morning if you post any other info.
    Hope it works out.

  • Outlook 2013 Not Responding and Offline Address Book Issues with Office 365

Around 3 months ago I setup a small business with Office 365 for email. They have 10 PCs, all running newly installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, eight with Office 2013 and two with Office 2010. All are connected to a local domain (Server Essentials
2012) with a single internet connection through a new TP-LINK router. Each user logs into their own PC only.
The network runs perfectly, internet connection is good but there seems to be RANDOM, INTERMITTENT issues with email not being SENT from Outlook every so often. Email will sit in the outbox for up to an hour sometimes before, eventually, being sent. Incoming
email seems ok, although this is more difficult to tell. At others times, email will be sent instantly - the size of the message and any attachments makes no difference.
The issue has happened at some point on every one of the PCs but no particular PC/user seems worse than any other. When email is stuck on one user's PC it can still be sent ok by other users at the same time - so the internet connection is not down. Users can
can always login to the OWA service ok and iPhones etc. all sync ok even when email is stuck in the Outbox.
To debug the issue I have worked on one particular user's PC and carried out the following changes -
    Changes that made no difference
I have checked the router. A SPI firewall is available on the router but this is switched off.
I have changed the MTU on the router with no effect.
There are no unsual add-ins to Outlook
Outgoing email virus scanning is disabled
Outlook is NOT integrated with Lync
The OST file is around 1.7 GBytes is size.
I have recreated the Outlook profile twice but this made no difference
Switched OFF "Cached Exchange Mode" - this made things worse !
The Outlook address book is set to \Offline Global Address List
I have disabled with Windows firewall on the client PC - no change
I have adjusted the KeepAliveTime for packets in the registry of the PC to 20 minutes
Changes that reduced the frequency of "Not Responding"
I have changed the Outlook automatic Send/Receive time from 30 to 10 minutes - this seemed to help
    Possible Related Problem
I have attempted to download the offline address book manually - this hangs at "Copying offline address book template file" in the Send/Receive dialog and there a NO OAB files in the data file location on the PC.
So the only measure that has so far "helped" has been the Outlook Send/Receive time change - now set to 10 minutes. Even so, Outlook will occasionally go "Not Responding" for 30 minutes or more (no windows active - only option
is to close and reopen Outlook).
There does seem to be a problem with the Offline Address book. I can download this ok for this user on my home PC (Outlook 2010) but this will not download manually on the work pc with Outlook 2013 (despite following all the debug steps above).
On work PC I can see literally hundreds of "Schannel" errors in the Windows System event logs -
    Error - Event 36888 Schannel
The following fatal error was generated :10
The internal error state is 10
These errors occur every 2-4 minutes continually all the time Outlook is running. When Outlook is closed the "Schannel" errors stop !
Can anyone suggest what else to try, please ?
I have already investigated this issue on the Office 365 Community Forum, and the Outlook forum and they suggested that it was a client (i.e Outlook) issue and that I should post here for further information.
    Thanks for reading !

    An update to this problem.
I brought one of the office PCs back to my home network and connected it up there. With no changes to the PC I was immediately able to download the Offline Address Book without errors.
This suggests to me that there must be some problem with the internet connection or router setup in the office environment.
The router is a TP-LINK W8970. The internet connection is PPPoA. I have seen some suggestion that an SPI firewall can cause issues. This router has an SPI firewall but this feature is disabled on the router.
While investigating this issue I have frequently been connected remotely to an office PC - sometimes for up to an hour or more. During these periods I have not experienced any connection dropouts so the actual internet connection seems to be ok (i.e. it is
    not dropping out).
However, something seems to be preventing the Outlook client from connecting properly with the Office 365 Exchange server in the office environment - or something is dropping the connection to Outlook. Does anyone know of any router settings that might affect
    this ?
I could try changing the office router but I do not have a spare available. Can anyone suggest a reasonably low cost, currenbtly available router that they know definitely works in the Office 365 environment so that I could buy this for test purposes ?

  • Mail and Address Book Issues in 10.4.5

    Hello:
I recently updated to 10.4.5 and have some issues with mail and address book.
    1. MAIL: All the mail on my machine has been "reformatted" for lack of a better term. Each line in a paragraph is about 1.5" above the next. This is the same for all messages. This just appeared after I updated to 10.4.5. Suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the solution?
    2. ADDRESS BOOK: All of my addresses just have the name. Apparently, everything else has disappeared (Phone, e-mail, notes, etc.) Ex: John Smith... That is all I have for all 346 records. Naturally, I have the data backed up on .mac, but before I re-sync (assuming that works) I want to resolve the issue to prevent it from happening again. I have tried renaming files in the user>library>application support>address book from AddressBook.data.previous to just AddressBook.data to no avail. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Solution:  iMac Address Book - Issues when Editing or Deleting Contacts

Is there a way to select a bunch of similarly posted questions and propose to "ALL" an answer or solution?
Hardware & Version: I have the iMac OS X Lion 10.7.4  (as of this writing)
Every so often, after updates, there seems to be rights issues with some apps, such as Address Book and iTunes, especially for iMacs with one or more non-admin accounts.
But somehow, even using the Admin account to give Read/Write access to some relevant user folders (AddressBook folder of that user in this case) does nothing to allow the editing or deleting of those contacts.
Here is the solution that worked for me, without losing all my contacts:  (just in case, backup all files and contacts prior to these steps...)
1 - open Address Book app
2 - right-click a contact that you cannot edit or delete
    3 - select "Spotlight: <contact name>"
4 - Finder will open and show all files pertaining to that contact (select View as Columns from the menu)
5 - find the file that has "Address Book Card Data" next to the "Kind" value (the file icon will look like those Roladex cards)
6 - right-click the file and select "Open Enclosing Folder"
7 - another Finder window opens to show the Metadata folder location of the file
8 - now stretch the window until you see the AddressBook folder containing the Metadata folder
9 - Quit Address Book app
10 - right-click the AddressBook folder and select "Move to Trash"
11 - launch the Address Book app
You should now be able to edit and delete contacts.

  • Sever address book issues

For some reason, address book has duplicated groups by the dozens. Deleting is slow and laborious. Have tried it from my mbp, my imac and from icloud itself. Halfe the time the machine pinwheels out.
I liked mobile me because if you wanted, you could just export your contacts to a file, then do some surgery, syncing from your machine to the cloud or vice versa.
This is very troublesome. I just want to completely wipe it out and then reload my contacts.
    any help is appreciated.

    already tried that
Just exported my v cards and archived my contacts, deleted all contacts, confirmed they were not on my mbp, imac or on icloud.com itself.
the problem is, all the groups are still there, literally a couple hundred, all duplicates of only about 5 different groups I had, customers, vendors, personal etc. It only happened on icloud, not on the "on my mac" group.
The problem I am having is getting rid of all the groups on the left side of the address book screen. The only option I see so far is to delete each idividually which is incredibly time consuming. Whether I do it from address book, from icloud.com, either way it takes forever, everything slows down, pinwheels etc, literally like 30seconds just to delete one and I have hundreds
utterly baffeling, had no issues like this with mobile me and seriously sometimes wish I could go back
    any ideas?!?!?!?

  • 10.6.2 Address Book Issues

Since 10.6.2 I am having serious issues with Address Book:
    - The contact cards are still there but apart from the names all data is gone
    - Can't add a new card; it's enables 'editing' instead
    - Click a group name and then back on 'all contacts' does not refresh the window but leaves the group contacts in view.
    - syncing with mobileme does not work any more: it does not report any error but the contacts are still wrong
I have tried the 'solutions' I found on here like thrashing the AB folder in library/app data but none of that has worked.
I have no idea what the problem is, on the macbook with 10.6.1 all is fine.

Here's some weird additional info on this:
Whenever I double click on an entry in the Address Book, it opens a new window and there it DOES show all info of the contact...

  • Address book issues; excessive duplicates, syncing, ...

    Hey guys,
I have had this issue for a long time and have not been able to fix it. I have multiple duplicates for most of my contacts. I sync my ical, contacts, and other settings between my desktop, laptop, iPhone and now my iPad. How can I clean them up and get my settings corrected so this doesn't happen again? Is it possible to edit contacts on whichever device I need to at the time and have mobile me add the new contact without creating a duplicated address book or iCal? This seems to be what it's doing; combining 4 seemingly unique address books and calendars and adding them together instead of merging them. Thanks in advance for the help.
    Kevin

I sync my ical, contacts, and other settings between my desktop, laptop, iPhone and now my iPad.
iSync (this forum) doesn't sync between computers or with the iPhone and iPad. It is only for syncing to non-Apple mobile phones.
You must either be using iTunes or MobileMe. The forums for those are here:

  • Outlook 2010 Quick Steps - Address Book issue

It was suggested I ask this question in the Windows 7 forum, after I posted it in the O365 forum...
Environment:  Wave15 O365, on-premise users/groups, dirsync'd to O365 (ADFS).  No on-site exchange servers.  Users use either OWA or Outlook 2010 full client (part of Prof Plus 2010).
We have verified that the personal address books have had their 'show this folder as an e-mail Address Book' checked.
When we try to setup a Quick Step in the Outlook client on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 machine, it appears to be looking to the local machine's Windows Address Book, instead of the Outlook address books.  It
only shows an Administrator E-mail Address.  The window top does say Address Book: Global Address List.  We cannot see any other address books.
When I login as the same user on a Windows 2003 R2 machine (citrix full desktop), it properly sees all of the address books, so it's not specific to the user. It appears to have something to do with the Operating
    System.
    Ideas?

    Hi,
I'm trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay.
    Appreciate your patience.

  • Address book issue when creating meeting Outlook 2013 Exchange 2013

I am setup with Exchange 2013 Cu1 in coexistence with Exchange 2010 sp3.   When I have a mailbox on Exchange 2013 and run Outlook 2013 in cached mode (the default in my organization), The address book works fine for email.  When I try to add
addresses or rooms to a calendar meeting, I get an error message that states:
"The address list cannot be displayed.  The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
Under Address book, I see my mailbox, underwhich is contacts followed by All Users both of which work.  Then I have Global Address list and a set of lists under that all of which pop the error message above.  Following this is my CRM address lists
    which all work.
It appears that when trying to add rooms or individuals to a meeting it is defaulting to global address book which does not appear to be available.   When addressing email it defaults to "all users".
Is this an issue with my default address book?  If so how do I resolve this.
    Thank you

    Hi
    One workaround you can try
Create a new OAB, add OAB Virtual Directory for all CAS servers under Distribution for default OAB.

It seems to have something to do with typing it, I notice if I look in the ldap logs after typing in a query, it is searching M* (and variations) if I happen to be searching e.g. Mike Smith - maybe it's an issue with it thinking I'm done with my query when in fact I'm still typing it?

    The app server is:
Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1 (9.1.1) (build b60e-fcs)
This is an old app-server release. The current best-combination is Convergence patch 14 + Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1.1 Patch04 with HADB (File based) (128643-18/128644-18/128645-18):

  • BlackBerry Experts help save my business...address book issues

I have BB 8800 due to somes issues I had to taken a backup on 14th when I try to restore from the file, it pulls everything except address book. I am a marketing guy so my business runs on the 550+ contacts that I have...in the restore.
The backup shows the address book file size as 36bytes (not sure why thats so low) but the restore shows blank for # of entries
    - Till now I have tried checking the filters in the address book ( personal and business)
    - when I go to the contacts size on my BB it shows 0 entries
    Please help me....

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
This community is extremely active...but the "view count" is not reliable...if someone does a search and their search criteria gets a "hit" in your post, that will increment your view count...but it does not mean that anyone actually looked at your post.
Further, this is a community -- of volunteers...it has nothing whatsoever to do with your formal support channel.
Last -- for whatever reason, it sounds like your backup file is not valid for your contacts. You should try your next most recent backup...hopefully that's not too far back in the past. Regular backups aren't an option in best practices.
    Good luck!
