Address book multiple sources

Address book i have set up address book to work with dropbox so all the macs in our office can share the same database this removes the need for all those all those syncing applications and for one person to be in charge of the database.
Problem is you have to limit the personal info you want in the database as every one has access to it.
I also have many family members using mac and it would be nice to be able to do something similar with them a unified family contacts book.
Again you would have the same issues. If Address book could work like ical and operate with multiple sources. You could have all your contacts in one location but keep the info separated and private.
Any one know if it is possible to achieve this or if something like Bento could

Thank you, V.K. The good news is that the group is large and the email addresses are hidden in the BCC field so Jane won't know that I have two entries for her in my address book. (And yes, I know I could call them both "Jane Doe" but at some point I would probably shoot myself in the foot by deleting the duplicate without realizing why it's there.)
I was surprised that whoever coded Address Book and/or Mail didn't use the usual convention of being able to select multiple entries in a list. This would be a nice enhancement for a future release; it's really not that unusual for someone to request that mail be routinely sent to both a home and work email address.

  • When I launch address book, multiple windows open

When I launch address book, multiple windows open, and I can't find a way to close them unless I do it one at a time.  I must have chosen at some point "open all contacts" or something like that, but am at a loss as to how to prevent this in the future. I've tried command +option+w, to no avail.  Ideas?  thanks!

    Untick this box:
Or use alt/option + Cmd + Q to Quit and DIscard Windows.
    Regards.

  • Jabber for Windows 10.5 shows contacts from Address Book multiple times?

What would cause Jabber for Windows 10.5.1 to show a contact multiple times from the address book when searching?  See attached screenshot.

I tried removing firefox and rebooting/reinstalling Jabber with no luck.  I reimaged my machine and loaded 10.5.2 fresh install with no previous versions and still getting the random crash.  Also, I have users who say it has crashed on them during a WebEx and have had installation problems when upgrading from 9.x to 10.5.x.  Version 9 is very solid, sticking with 9.7.5.  I have about 10% of my test users having varying problems with version 10.5.x, waiting till the next release.  Hopefully Cisco will spend a few more weeks testing the next one before publishing it on their site.
    --edit--
Also, when you finally get frustrated and want to downgrade, Jabber 10.5.x doesn't uninstall completely and you end up with an error like the image attached when you try to install v9.7.5 for example and can't install Jabber even after rebooting.  I had to run Microsoft Fix It install/Uninstall option and tell it to uninstall Jabber before Windows allowed me to install an older version of Jabber.  Not too happy with this release.  Strange enough though, some of my users have the exact same laptop I do, same windows build, same patches, etc, and it works fine for them.  Anyway, not deploying this one.  Good luck.

  • Sync Mac Address Book - multiple Google accounts

I hope this is the right place for this question.
I understand that you can sync the Mac Address Book with Google accounts, but is there a way to sync that Mac Address Book with MULTIPLE Google accounts.
Our scenario is that we have one iMac as our main database, and want to sync it to mine, and my wifes Google account.
    Thanks for any help.

I have found a program called Spanning Sync
    http://spanningsync.com/
It allows for multiple Google syncing

  • Address Book multiple addresses, some blank?

Since switching to iCloud, I discovered I had triplicate email addresses for every single contact. A number of contacts retained a name, but all other contact was missing? Aside from deleting two of every three contacts, is there anything I can do to recover my lost contact info?

Thank you, V.K. The good news is that the group is large and the email addresses are hidden in the BCC field so Jane won't know that I have two entries for her in my address book. • Address Book Multiple contacts?

For some reason, when I drag new contacts to a group this has somehow merged all the contacts? i.e each contact or primary email has 100 or more duplicate work contacts. I could delete one by one in edit card but I have around 1000 conacts all with multiple emails which is very time consuming and makes the mac run very slowly. All I need is the header email as I'm colating a data base ..
    any ideas
    Thanks

I performed the following to troubleshoot but multiple instances of Personal Address Book remained:
    * Manually deleted the Google contacts. TB is no longer creating multiple instances of abook.mab;
    * Added a new contact to one of the Personal Address Books, the new contact appeared in all of them;
    * Renamed abook.map, started TB and a new one was created. Still four instances of Personal Address Book were there, however they're now empty;
    * Restored abook.map and addresses returned with four instances;
    * I tried deleting several files within the Profile directory as I know one of them is creating these instances. I haven't found the one as some have no effect on the Address Book and others bugger up TB, as you would expect.
I know there is a file with some kind of configuration doing this, I just haven't found the one to replace.

  • Address book-multiple names in 1 entry

How do I add multiple names to one address card? For example, if a married couple has different last names, like John Smith and Jane Doe, when I try to enter in the name field it only lets me enter 1 last name and 1 first name.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You don't. The public schema for the Address Book application was intended to support one record per individual identity. You should create separate records for each significant other individual.
You can 'relate' records in a fashion by selecting the relationship field below birthday—usually with presets for friend and assistant set by default, as I recall—insert the name of the related party, and choose an appropriate indicator: father, mother, parent, brother, sister, child, friend, spouse, partner, assistant, manager, other or some custom field label you enter. When searching for all related parties, you can search for the last name, if you have included that information in the relationship data field, and all related records will be shown in a list.

  • Address book - multiple emails - send to all

I have a contact who has requested that when I send her email that I use both of the email addresses in her address book entry. I know how to pick which one to use, but apparently there is not a way to use both of them. I have circumvented the problem by creating another address book entry ("Jane Doe 2") and putting both of them in the group; this gets the email sent to both addresses but is rather a kludge.

Thank you, V.K. The good news is that the group is large and the email addresses are hidden in the BCC field so Jane won't know that I have two entries for her in my address book. • Address Book - multiple access

    Hello
I run a small office network of 5 macs and a server all running OSX 10.4, and we really need to all access the same Address Book. So far the only way this seems possible is by syncing the address books between different users, which doesn't really work properly, or by running an LDAP directory on the server, which I have no idea how to set up.
This must be a very common problem for small offices who need to share contact information. I used to use a simple programme called QuickDex which everyone could access on the server, which has now been update for OSX, but would rather use Address Book as its easily accessed from Mail.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help much appreciated
    Thanks
    Buddy

    Go to www.xcnetwork.com
you'll find a very userul service for sharing contacts or iCal events.
We are using it in our small office and it works great

Why not using nick names ? The only downside is gw7 and earlier
nicknames don't show up in the address book. GW8 does show the
    nicknames in the address book.

  • Why are contacts added to address book multiple times?

Contacts in my iphone are now found rewriting over & over many, many times; appearing in address book with repeated phone numbers (the same number) over and over. Why/how can I stop this?
    Thanks.

Cannot determine how to check iTunes for syncing contacts. Can you explain?
    Sorry. Thanks in advance.

  • Saving contacts to address book - Multiple Users

My wife and I both have iPhones and want to back up our contacts. I backed mine up but noticed in Windows Address Book it just put all of my contacts in the Main Identity's Contacts. I'm afraid of backing up my wife's because I'm afraid it will mix up all of our contacts. I've tried creating groups for each of us but it just puts everyone's contacts in the main identity's contacts. Is there a way to back them up with Windows Address Book without mixing them up?

I will have the same issue shortly. One thing that you can try to do (which I have yet to try...so unsure how it will work) is have your contacts sync to outlook while have hers sync to windows address book. This way they won't get mixed up
Also, I have a related question whose answer may help: does itunes back up contacts automatically (i.e. in the background), without the help of an external application like outlook or windows address book? if so, then backing up to a program may be unnecessary.

  • Contacts and categories in address book multiple duplicates

Hello; I am not talking about having one duplicate but 200-300 of a single contact or a category. So please do not redirect this on the usual sync+icloud discussions...
I have resetted my AB but today they started multiplying like rabbits again.
I noticed that on my mac and I immediately disconnected iclould: contacts on icloud have not been affected so I guess the problem is on this machine.
I also had added a new category 3 days ago and it did not show un on iCloud, so something is definetively happening here.
Only things I am doing is working on the iCloud control panel, deseletting and reselecting the contact box, deleting all the contacs on this machine and then pulling again the information from icloud.
Any suggestion on how to solve this?
    Best,
    Giuseppe

Try the steps I outline here: After Lion upgrade, my addressbook does not work++
Note that with iCloud (or any other address server) there is a Sources folder with subfolders for each address server source info. Those folders also contain an addressbook-v22.abcddb file that you should delete.
And, as someone recently pointed out, I originally called the file addressbook.abcddb, which it is not.

  • Can't delete cards address book, multiple calendar entries

So far, it's been wonderful to have my information sync across three computers, with two exceptions:
    1.     I can't delete an old contact in icloud.  If I delete on one computer, it pops right back up.  I've tried logging onto the icloud site itself, but I can't find a way to delete cards online, just modify the cards a bit.
    2.     My calendar was beautifully set up on one computer, and when I turned on icloud on that computer (thinking it would override the calendars on the other two computers), it added multiple entries for every birthday, and some appointments.
    Help!

    Can you try this.
In all contacts click the first card, scroll down to  the last entry and shift click it.
From the Edit menu select  "Delete Cards".
If it works you will lose all cards, so be careful.

  • Address book - multiple listings of same entry

I feel like there's a really simple explaination for this and will probably feel silly when I get the answer -  BUT I just bought a MacBook Pro and am running Leopard (10.6.7).   I now have muptiple listings of the same entry.   Some of them repeat like 6-7 times.    What can I do to make that go away?
    Thanks in advance.

    Found it!
Open "Settings" on the iPhone>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks>Accounts>your MobileMe account and turn off Contacts, when prompted delete the data, and wait two minutes, then turn Contacts back on. When asked to merge the data, make that choice, and wait patiently. You should no longer have duplicates. If you are able, I recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to make the change.
