ADF Mobile Tutorial

Dear All,
I'm trying to follow the ADF Mobile Tutorial to build an Android application as described in: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/MobileTutorial/jdtut_11r2_54_2.html
(I have just downloaded JDev 11.1.2.3 and ADF Mobile Extension)
Everything goes well until I get to the point Step 4.3 (the instruction In the Profile Type drop-down list, ensure ADF Mobile for Android is selected and then click OK.)
My problem is that no such Profile Type can be found in the drop-down. The closest profile available is ADF Mobile Feature Archive.
Does anybody have a clue what should be changed?
Thanks, Jiri
P.S. in another tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/BuildingMobileApps/ADFMobileTutorial_1.html I found that "a local keystore before you can use Release mode." My tutorial does not contain anything similar, but I'm OK with the debug mode.

Open JDev > Tools > Preferences > ADF Mobile (Expand it) > Platforms > Select 'Android'
Is the Android SDK Location and Android Platform Location filled in? If not, fill those in and retry.

  • How to get data from web service in ADF mobile

I'm new to ADF mobile application development. I'm currently blocked in a scenario. I have a web service(from third party) which needs <wsse:Security> to retrieve data. In soapUI, the web service will retrieve the response only when there is this security tag. Otherwise it will give response as invalid security. The web service looks like this:

I tried the steps described in ADF mobile tutorial to get web service data. But I'm getting response code 500 from the server. I tried the steps for secured web service also. But I'm not sure which security policy has been implemented in the web service. I tried with oracle/wss_username_client_token_policy and some others but didn't succeed. Later I tried by creating web service client/proxy. But as Oracle ADF only supports java 1.4, I got errors in the generated code(errors on generics and annotation).
The WSDL for the web service is as follows:

  • ADF Mobile sample - palm simulator and jar problem

    Hello.
I got a few problems with ADF mobile tutorial. (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/101/tutorials/wireless/mobile2.html)
    1.     Palm Simulator has no web browser.
As per description under ‘Prerequisites’ I downloaded the newest Palm Simulator (and some older version too). My Palm Simulator has no web browser. I found nothing how to add or enable web browser. In tutorial screenshots the Palm Simulator has always a browser.
Where can I get a Palm Simulator with web browser or where can I get a free PPC Simulator for testing my application?
    2.     Incompatible jar-files.
I’m using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4.3673. I think this is the newest version. Mobile.zip contains adf-faces-impl.jar and jsf-impl.jar. Both files have version 10.1.3.0.5. JDeveloper contains this files too. But version is 10.1.3.0.4! On starting oc4j I got an error with information about this version conflict.
What is wrong on my environment? Did I miss important files? I found no newer ADF files at oracle web site. My solution is to replace the files in Mobile.zip with the older files from JDeveloper.
    With best regards
    C. Schmülling

    Hello Christian,
The Palm simulator doesn't include a Web browser by default, You have to install it> Here is the URL where you can download the software: http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/webbrowser/
Concerning the jar-files it shouldn't be a problem. Just use the jar versions delivered with the Mobile.zip and it should run.

  • Prerequisites for oracle adf mobile

    Hi,
I need to learn oracle adf mobile technology. I know little bit of java. Means I understand java syntax. I have absolutely no experience in web technologies like jsp,jsf etc.. even css I do not know.
What should be the learning path for me before I actually start reading oracle adf mobile tutorial? I do not even know javascript. What are all the basic stuffs I should know before starting with adf mobile
    Thanks
    Vadiraj

I'm not sure if your background is sufficient for developing any application. ADF requires you to have at least a good understanding of java. 'A little bit' might not be enough.
Well, you'll find this out yourself pretty fast.
the Oracle ADF Mobile homepage Oracle ADF Mobile has three links on the page showing a demo, an overview (which would be my starting point) and a link to the ADF Academy. This last link is designed to help users developing ADF Mobile applications.
After watching the other videos you can start there. If you don't understand what is going on there you have to deepen your knowledge in this aera first.

  • ADF Mobile - XML Parsing

Previously I posted on calling a remote webservice - Calling remote service using ADF Mobile and I get my weather application working already.
The webservice returned me a string which is a XML form. I want to parse the XML to make it easy-read.
The currently output from the webservice (http://www.webservicex.com/globalweather.asmx) is as below.
    *<string><NewDataSet>*
    *<Table>*
    *<Country>Singapore</Country>*
    *<City>Singapore / Paya Lebar</City>*
    *</Table>*
    *<Table>*
    *<Country>Singapore</Country>*
    *<City>Singapore / Changi Airport</City>*
    *</Table>*
    *</NewDataSet></string>*
How do I parse this output so I can display the string properly in mobile?
    Singapore / Paya Lebar
    Singapore / Changi Airport
Any direction on how to do this? Or is there any built-in function inside JDeveloper?

Try to go to this link - http://www.webservicex.com/globalweather.asmx?op=GetCitiesByCountry and use Singapore as CountryName or any country you prefer
    The output is a string
    +<string></string>
    -<string>
    <NewDataSet>
    <Table>
    <Country>Singapore</Country>
    <City>Singapore / Paya Lebar</City>
    </Table>
    <Table>
    <Country>Singapore</Country>
    <City>Singapore / Changi Airport</City>
    </Table>
    </NewDataSet>
    </string>
The tutorial for ADF Mobile from Oracle website is able to drag the output from data control - return -> value/class. But this webservice only return a single value of string. How do I change it to display properly in ADF Mobile?

  • ADF Mobile - Debugging iOS through XCODE Pkg

I downloaded Frank's example on the image upload. I deployed the webservice to my standalone WLS.
I migrated the mobile app (PhotoBox) to 11.1.2.4 and made the necessary migration changes per the document.
I deployed the app to a distribution package and opened up the xcode project in Xcode 4.6.2. I added -consoleRedirect=FALSE to my debug scheme and it dumps a lot of output to the console when I run it on my device.
The issue with this is I am trying to invoke the UPLOAD process on the Image Upload screen on the device. It doesn't error out ... it acts as if it's uploading the image, but doesn't do anything. It just stays on the Image Upload screen.
The output in my Xcode console doesn't display any error messages as well. It says "Cordova Response Success" after alot of other callbacks.
Any suggestions on what else I can do to debug this issue?

    Vik2 wrote:
I know i can deploy the same app to iOS by creating a deployment profile. However, I am little confused on this based on tutorials.
So, the question is can i develop a ADF Mobile app on a windows machine and keep testing it on a android device and once satisfied can just create a deployment profile and deploy to iOS ?
what could be the possible issues?
how much it is important to test it on an actual iOS device during development ?
Also does iOS emulator work on windows machine as i am seeing in tutorial to use a mac and install xCode. You can't test/deploy iOS apps on a Windows. You will need a Mac with XCode.
In general, the apps you develop will run very smooth on iOS (better then Android). So you could asume everything works fine in iOS.
However, you should test it to be sure. Since there are some minor differences between iOS and Android.

  • How to solve "Bad Content-Length value" Error that show in ADF Mobile

I was develop application that using web service from mine original ADF project and I can't fetch via AMX Page as pop-up error "Bad Content-Length value" How to solve this problem ?
    My Web-service configuration
    - "Find" is only basic operation that in view instance
    - None of View criteria
As only find is basic operation, that seems required "findCriteria" and "findControl" parameter(as seen in "Panel From layout" generated in AMX Page)
After drag generate form view in AMX Page and after to deploy to simulator, I was found pop-up error was said Bad Content-Length value as shown below.

    Hi,
At this point, we really have not fully tested out JDK 1.7, and we rely on Android SDK to actually compile the app. Any way you can add JDK 1.6 to your machine, and configure the Android SDK to use JDK 1.6?
    Thanks,

  • How to develop ADF Mobile with Oracle Database remotely

As my company is using Oracle Database and using ADF to development many Web-based apps and We just begin to develop in ADF Mobile.
We can't find any tutorial about to using Oracle Database with ADF, How we can using it in ADF Mobile ?
    Thanks for your help !

    Hi,
ADF mobile supports SOAP and REST services for business services access. This means that for you to work against an Oracle database, you need to create a business services that can be exposed as a service for WS DC consumption as explained in the ADF Mobile documentation. Your options are
    1. EJB / JPA : Create entities from database table and then create a session facade on top. This then can be declaratively exposed as a WebService. Use the WSDL reference and start New --> WebService -> WS Data Control in your ADF Mobile project
    2. ADF BC can be exposed as a Service Interface and this to ADF Mobile. To create an ADF BC service you can read the product documentation or this: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2012/12-sep/o52adf-1735897.html
See this video: https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/developing_with_oracle_adf_mobile for how to integrate this in ADF Mobile

  • No ADF Mobile Extension for JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0?

    Hi,
I have recently upgraded from jdev 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.1.4.0, and when checking for extension, can no longer find the one for ADF Mobile Client extension.
But the tutorial at : http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps3/adf_mobile_top/adf_mobile/jdtut_11r2_54_1.html, says that its available.
Can someone please clarify if its available for 11.1.1.4.0 and if so, how to get it?
If not, how do I build mobile adf projects using this version? Or do I need to roll-back 11.1.1.3 if I want to build mobile client apps? And guess that would apply to mobile browser apps too?

    Hi Joe,
Thanks a bunch for that quick and comprehensive reply, and sorry for not replying earlier!
The reason why I was delaying your response was since our team was having some discussions around the mobile platform with a few leading analyst firms, and we wanted to get their inputs too about what kind of future are they seeing for such apps.
Having got their inputs now, we are happy to note that Android and iOS support is coming soon, looking forward to Windows 7 support too, and in agreement with your views about J2SE/Windows, Palm/WebOS and Symbian.
However, we are seeing a lot of queries from our clients, especially from ASIA-PAC region where they are asking for either platform-agnostic support ("the app should work on any phone!") or specifically for J2ME / consumer-phone devices.
Given that you have not thought about targeting those yet, can we look forward to engaging with you about the same?
    Do please let me know.
PS: By the way, we did get the Mobile ADF Client extension last week for JDev 11.1.1.4.0, but when trying to create a deployment profile for the mobile client app for blackberry, the BB and WinMobile deployment profile options are coming disabled. Can you please help us as to how to enable those?
We have installed the blackberry JDE and 9700 simulators both, and also provided their path in the Tools->Preferences in JDev.

Googling your problem doesn't seem very hard.

  • ADF Mobile dead?

    Hallo,
I have a client that wants me to make an ADF application for the Samsung Galaxy Note. I am trying to find information about ADF Mobile but all I can find is old information. The mobile blog hasn't been updated for almost a year, the "live demo site" is completely dead and I find conflicting information: I am now not sure whether to use Trinidad components because ADF Faces apparently isn't suited for mobile browsers, but the demo for the iPad does use ADF Faces because it supports touchscreens.
I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6. Can anyone help me get more information or demos? Has anyone here built an application for a mobile browser, and if so, how?
    thanks for the information
    Wendy Tromp

Thanks Shay, but I already saw that page and it doesn't have that much information. As I said, the link to the live demo site is dead and the blog hasn't been updated for almost a year. It seems to me that Oracle isn't really paying attention to the mobile market anymore.
Right now the focus is on developing a webapp for a smaller screen basically, features like using GPS and the camera are a nice to have, we'll see about that later.
I have fiddled with the trinidad components and with a firefox user agent switcher, but i see no difference, so what is the added value of ADF Mobile Browser? And if Jdeveloper 11gR1 and R2 are supposed to be the same release with the only difference of the JSF version why is the tutorial found on that site in R2 with completely different menu options and design view options from my 11.1.1.6 installation? All I can pick in design view is tiny resolutions, no larger than 320x320. Nobody uses that anymore.
I a nutshell, Oracle Mobile seems to be forgotten by Oracle, I am really disappointed :(

  • ADF Mobile error: more than one emulator

I'm using the latest ADF Mobile development tools and trying to get a simple application deployed but I can't get past this error. I followed the tutorial on the Oracle site to get to this point so I believe I've got everything set up as recommended by Oracle. Does anyone know how to get past this?

More information: if I start the Android emulator I have two android device emulators:
    emulator-5554 offline
    emulator-5556 device
So I assume somehow in trying to get this all configured I got an extra device emulator out there and when the Android SDK manager runs it creates that second device. I had problems installing the SDK due to windows updates... so I assume my problem is that somewhere in some file a second emulator is registered. Does anyone know where this file is or how to clean it up?

Is there a reason, why there is no direct support for adf bc via jdbc? Not exactly sure what you mean here. Remember that the mobile device is a one user environment so it won't make sense to have the full ADF BC run on the mobile device.
Since you are working over the network accessing a remote server, you probably don't want direct JDBC access to the DB on the server because of network port security settings.
Web services are the standard way to invoke remote logic on servers.
Why is there no support for exposing the application module via a RESTful service, or is it planned to support in further versions? This is planned for a future version.

  • ADF Mobile Deployment issue

    Hello -
I am so frustrated with the ADF Mobile deployment. I have already created couple of Android Apps using the native language and never faced problems like this. I am very familiar with ADF development as well.
    Anyways this is my problem.
I downloaded the sample adf mobile app from the following tutorial, but I was unable to deploy it on the Android emulator in  Release mode. The debug mode takes for ever.
Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 Tutorials - Building Mobile Applications with Oracle ADF Mobile
This is the error messages I am getting:
    [11:02:51 PM] ----  Deployment started.  ----
[11:02:51 PM] Target platform is  (Android).
[11:02:51 PM] Beginning deployment of ADF Mobile application "Employees" to Android using profile "Android3".

    [11:02:51 PM] ----  Deployment incomplete  ----.
[11:02:51 PM] The following Android preference configuration is missing or invalid. Set these options in JDeveloper Preferences on the ADF Mobile panel:
    Key Password
    (oracle.adfmf.framework.dt.deploy.android.deployers.ValidatePreferencesDeployer)
I generated the keystore using keygen per the tutorial and it doesnt't help.
This is how I validated the keystore.
    C:\Oracle\MiddlewareMob\jdk160_24\bin>keytool -list -keystore emp.keystore
    Enter keystore password:
    Keystore type: JKS
    Keystore provider: SUN
    Your keystore contains 1 entry
    empl, Nov 19, 2013, PrivateKeyEntry,
    Certificate fingerprint (MD5): 8A:27:53:64:B3:AF:01:CA:9C:2F:47:2A:50:16:E4:40
    C:\Oracle\MiddlewareMob\jdk160_24\bin>
I tried recreating the keystore couple of times, but it didn;t help. I know the password entered is correct.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also, I started learning JQuery Mobile in parallel.
    Thanks,
    -S
