ADF VS JavaFX

ADF is a RIA development framework, and so do JavaFX, what's the difference between ADF and JavaFX ? Oracle supports both ADF and JavaFX, what's the future stategy of these two frameworks ?
thx.

sorry I don't know much of JavaFx, is a rich framework of sun, right?

  • JavaFX mobile (Android/iOS) update?

    Hi all,
    as I am quite desperately eager to start JavaFX mobile development,
    I would like to ask, if somebody has any update on recent status and progress, if any.
    I have found quite a lot of news titles like 'JavaFX for iOS/Android soon!' at the beginning of the year, but not any other update since.
    According to Javaone 2013 Session Updates
    there should have been some very interesting presentations at JavaOne 2013 last week:
    JavaFX on Android: First Insight [BOF7791]
    Build and Debug Your JavaFX Application for the iPad [BOF5517]
    JDK 8 for Oracle ADF Mobile on iOS and Android Devices [CON3783]
    Can anybody point me to some recent information?
    Thank you

    I don't think it's JavaFX, but BadLogic Games has a RoboVM based demo game on the Apple app store.  I tried it on an iPad 2 and was very surprised at how responsive it was.  I was expecting noticeable input lag, but there isn't any.

    I know the politics of getting JavaFX on iOS, Android, and WinRT are complicated, but I'm still hoping Oracle changes their mind.  The idea of Microsoft, Google, and Apple controlling the mobile platforms top to bottom doesn't strike me as something that's going to be good for anyone (else).  I'm rather amazed at the faith everyone is putting the idea that Microsoft, Google, and Apple won't leverage IE, Chrome, and Safari to give their SaaS initiatives the advantage.
    I'd rather hedge my bets with the JVM and Linux than trust 3 companies who have been making obvious moves to close up and control the computing industry.  Honestly, look at the setup.  They all have hardware branches now and they already control the OSs, the native runtimes, the browsers, and the primary distribution channels for their respective platforms.  Oracle should be worried about getting anything on those platforms 5 years from now.
    IMO, they should be pushing ADF and JavaFX on mobile, not trying to choose one or the other.

  • JavaFX and 508/accessibility compliance

    I'm looking for information on 508 or accessibility compliance for applications written in JavaFX. Where can I find information relating this topic? Thank you.

    I think what you are seeing at runtime is expected behavior - you can check the same on the ADF Faces components demo here:
    http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/index.jspx
    and turn screen reader usage on the setting menu.
    Note that the idea is that you only turn on screen reader mode for the users who need it - the rest can use the "regular" mode.

  • Embed JavaFX object into JSPX page

    Hi guys,
    I developed a RIA using javaFX and now want to embed this object into a JSPX page. In the page I wrote following sentences,
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.1"
              xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"

              xmlns:afh="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/html">

                            height: 540,
                            code: "path.Main",
                            name: "myJavaFX"
                    </afh:script>
                </af:group>
            </f:view>
    </jsp:root>I used Oracle Jdeveloper as my IDE and weblogic server as application server. I put the .jar files of myJavaFX application into same folder as the .jspx page.
    To my surprise, when the web page was generated, the application was not displayed but showing the following sentence,
    javafx( { archive: "firstJavaFX.jar", draggable: true, width: 1080, height: 540, code: "path.Main", name: "firstJavaFX" } );Obviously, the logic of my script was not recognized. Instead, it's printed out directly.
    So what could I do with this? Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards from Isaac.

  • When should we need JavaFx?

    Hi,
    Does JavaFX suitable for back office appliaction which is mainly for update/insert/delete records and show editable table, update the database etc.. , these type of appliaction no need the advance feature on multi-media. At this moment, the javaFx is lack of some advance components, is it right? or just directly use the swing components for data table?
    Should we start to use JavaFX for the new project? At this moment, we use the JSF 1.2 with Ajax for our application, and now we evaluate the new tech for new our projects.
    Thanks

    Hmm, okay I can't leave a comment like that as the last thing to be said about using JavaFX for real-world projects at the moment. I think you could use version 1.0 for a multi-person, multi-month project now, sure the current API's don't have all of the components we might have elsewhere but there is enough to get in an be productive with what is available. Why not!
    JavaFX's advantages are not just in the flashy graphics but also are in other things like having a dedicated language orientated towards writing GUI's. You might lose some productivity in having to write or adapt things like Tab and Table components but you are going to get a number of other advantages.
    * JSF applications consume a lot of memory on the server. In a JavaFX application all of the client state is held out on the client reducing the memory footprint of the server.
    * WebApps are always slow to build and deploy. If you are really, really lucky you might get some speed out of hot-deploy approaches but I've yet to see hot-deploy work on a real-world sized project. Not that I'm saying it can't be done, I'm just saying generally something worms it way into your technology stack and stops hot-deploy working. With JavaFX you can build and run the client straight out of the IDE.
    * Dedicated binding support within the language instead of having to use XML in JSF.
    * On the bigger projects we've found that you generally end-up spending quite a bit of time tweaking the "off-the-shelf" components anyway either for bugs or for lacking functionality. For example we did Oracle JSF/ADF last year and still had to tweak things to get pagination through large result sets working how we wanted it. So you if you're going to have to do component coding anyway, and need specialists within the team to do this kind of work then why not roll-your-own components, you'll get exactly what you want, no more and no less.
    * JavaFX skinning, decorating and layout looks a lot easier than having to deal with CSS and remember once you've learned the JavaFX way, unlike with CSS it's not going to work differently across different browsers.
    Anyway that's enough on the soapbox, fat clients are back! Bring em on! :-)

  • JavaFX WebVIew - PDF on popup window

    I built a desktop application using JavaFX 2.2 which uses a WebEngine to access a website built using Oracle ADF Pages. The application tracks the users actions on the pages and stores data to a database. All fine so far until the point where I need show a PDF file on a user click.
    On the actual website the user clicks a button and a new popup window opens up that displays the PDF.
    My problem is that due to the lack of PDF support in JavaFX I cannot display the pdf. The actual link to the PDF is dynamic and it doesn't have a .pdf at the end of it so I can't use the actual URL to send it to an external bowser or something to display it. Additionally the connection is secure so I can't open the URL with Chrome for example.
    Possible solutions I thought about are to read the binary data of the response from WebView and create the PDF file locally and then open it using Adobe of Chrome or something. Is that possible at all? Another solution I thought about (while I am writing this question) is maybe to open the URL which the users default browser but how can I go about sending the secure connection cookie from the application to the browser.
    Is any of the above even possible? Am I missing something?
    Any help, clues, links, ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

    You need to start at the beginning. We can't see your application, the window, webview, or your AppleScript from here. It is difficult to determine your question without a little bit (OK, a lot) of background information.

  • Using ADFS with SharePoint Foundation 2013?

    We have a WSS 3.0 web site used primarily for sharing documents with business partners who do not work for our company.  We plan on doing the 2 step upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2013
    Our internal users also use it but normally just use internal network file shares if they aren't planning to share the documents with external users.
    Each business partner's company has a sub site within our main WSS site and documents are uploaded to that section of the site if we want to share documents with employees of that company.
    Since we use AD for authentication, to make this work, we create AD user accounts for each external user and add them to a security group that gives them access to only their company's subsite on the main site.
    We have to maintain their passwords, reset them and delete/disable them when that person no longer needs access.  Each business partner has a limit on the number of users who can get one of our AD accounts due to limits on the number of CALs available
    to them.  It is messy because these users often forget their passwords since they aren't using these accounts every day.
    Is there a better way to do this so that we no longer have create and maintain user accounts for external users other than having to do a domain trust with all these other domains?
    I have heard of ADFS, but will it allow us to still control which sites and documents the external company users can access if we are not creating and managing the accounts and adding them to the correct security groups ourselves?
    We don't want every user from the partner's domains to be able to access the site.  If we use ADFS, how do we keep control of which external users have access to the site?

    Yes, you would add permissions just the same way you do with users from your local Active Directory. And yes, if you chose the email address to be the user's identifier, you would simply ask for the email addresses that you wanted and input those to the
    appropriate permissions on your SharePoint sites.
    You'll want to take a look at this:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/russmax/archive/2013/10/31/guide-to-sharepoint-2013-host-name-site-collections.aspx
    Also another thing to keep in mind is that you'll need to have those 3rd parties set up ADFS themselves, and you'll create an ADFS Trust between you and the 3rd party.

  • Issue with SharePoint foundation 2010 to use Claims Based Auth with Certificate authentication method with ADFS 2.0

    I would love some help with this issue.  I have configured my SharePoint foundation 2010 site to use Claims Based Auth with Certificate authentication method with ADFS 2.0  I have a test account set up with lab.acme.com to use the ACS.
    When I log into my site using Windows Auth, everything is great.  However when I log in and select my ACS token issuer, I get sent, to the logon page of the ADFS, after selected the ADFS method. My browser prompt me which Certificate identity I want
    to use to log in   and after 3-5 second
     and return me the logon page with error message “Authentication failed”

  • ADF  Get selected values from Dynamic Lists

    Hi,
    I have a created a dropdown list box where the list gets value through a managed bean. On commit I want the selected value to be saved into the CardiacV1EchoSched column of the Entity object (database). The source looks like this.
    <af:selectOneChoice value="#{bindings.CardiacV1EchoSched.inputValue}"
    label="#{bindings.CardiacV1EchoSched.label}"
    valuePassThru="true">
    <f:selectItems value="#{TTrack.carScheList}"/>
    </af:selectOneChoice>
    The problem is that getCardiacV1EchoSched() in the entity object class is null. The selected value does not get passed into #{bindings.CardiacV1EchoSched.inputValue} at all. If I bind the value to a variable in managed bean I get the selected value.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    not sure which business service you use to update the database, but if you use ADF Business Components then you need to call the commit operation

  • Open file from ADF pages gives a problem

    Hi all,
    I have created with Jdev 11g an ADF page.
    In that page is shown a table with the files that are stored in the database.
    I use this code to show the file:
        public void showFile(BlobDomain  b,String filename){
            FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse)fc.getExternalContext().getResponse();
            response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=\""+filename+"\"");
            response.setHeader("cache-control", "no-cache");
            try {
                InputStream in;
                in = b.getInputStream();
                ServletOutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
                writeInputStreamToOutputStream(in, out);
                fc.responseComplete();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (Throwable e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        }This works for the first time a file is opened. But when the user then selects a different row nothing is happening anymore.
    What can that be?
