ADHOC wifi capability

When start to be my WP Lumia 520 compatible with ADHOC WIFI wireless signal???

probably never, as i believe other operating systems for mobile devices have also dropped support for ad-hoc networks. this is due to the security issues that ad-hoc networks have.
nevertheless, you can leave feedback over with Microsoft at http://windowsphone.uservoice.com

  • Adhoc wifi does not work on playbook but works on ipad

I bought several playbooks for my employees to use with our company phone which have adhoc wifi
the playbooks do not connect. My one employee said she could hook up her personal ipad to the adhoc.
Please tell me they are working on fixing this problem.
If I have to change all my cell phone plans to data plans it will cost quite a bit over the years.
In fact it would be cheaper to buy all new ipads. I would break even within two years.
The reason I bought the playbooks was because of the size and value.
But the value just decreased because of the adhoc inabilities.
I understand there is a security issue but that should be the consumers choice to make.

Just a comment about your remarks especially the last sentence.
As a Business Person, don't you feel you should use a secure system if you are handling consumers personal information such as passwords, account numbers etc. Are not hackers costing all of us plenty in the long run?

  • How to create adhoc Wifi Hotspot with iPhone to connect Apple TV for Mirroring and Airplay?

I don't want to use my iPhone to share or tether my iPad or laptop etc. with my cellular data plan.
What I want is to create a hotspot with my iPhone (or iPad) so that I may connect my Apple TV to the adhoc network so I am able to stream video and music from my iPhone to the Apple TV.
I do presentations in front of live audiences and want the ability to mirror my iPad or use Airplay to stream video and photos to the Apple TV without connecting to a public WiFi network.
The apple TV is so small, I just tuck it into my bag with an HDMI cable and I am able to tap into LCD projectors and flat screens and use keynote or video from my iPad so my audiences can see my presentations.
Seems pretty simple. But I cannot activate a hot spot on my iPhone without signing up for AT&T's service. Fact is, I have no need to tether my iPhone or iPad, I just want to create an adhoc Wifi network solely for the use of my Apple TV.
I posted this question to the iPhone discussions as well, but thought someone here has wanted to do the same thing.
Someone suggested just bringing any WiFi router and connecting devices to that. But that's not a solution. It's about mobility and simplicity and not creating a larger footprint.
    Thoughts?

I am a presenter and I do what you want to do.  I use an apple tv as the presentation device that connects to the projector. The thing that makes it all work together is the Apple Airport Express $99 and looks just like the APple TV but white:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC414LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg
Basically you define a wireless network ahead of time (using your iPad or iPhone and the Airport Config App) and let your iDevices connect to it and know the details ahead of time (so they will auto connect later).
You have a couple of options of connecting the airport express to the apple tv.  I basically stacked them and used an ethernet cable but you can define the wireless connection also.  I then strapped them to the projector (which I travel with) and used an HDMI cable from the apple TV to the projector.
Sometimes I present from my iPad...sometimes I present from my iPhone.  Sometimes I present from my iPad but use the remote app on the iPhone to see the next screen.  Now with Mountain Lion you could even present with a Macbook Pro (not needed though)
Wanna hear the coolest thing?  When I want to demo something on the iPad instead of just showing the screen remotely using Airplay I use an App on the iPhone called Air Camera directed down at my iPad screen.  The Air Camera sends the video to the Apple TV using Airplay and people are able to see my taps by seeing my fingers.
Another cool thing in a classroom setting with other iPads you are able to let people know your Wifi password and then display their iPad screen up on a projector to ask a question about something or demo something.
So for the extra $99 dolars for the Airport Express and a few minutes setting it up, wammo you have it!
One last note.  If you actually do have wired internet at the podium you can connect it to the WAN port of the Airport express and all your iDevices would in addition have internet access.  If you need internet access for all the devices and you are presenting in a place without internet then you have to bring a wireless hotspot in place of the airport express.  This works equally well (again just setup the connection from the iDevices to the wireless hotspot ahead of time)
    Have fun and good luck!

  • Can I use my IMac OS 10.4 (old) to set up a wifi router, such as Airport Base, so I can have a wifi connection for the iPhone I plan to buy?  My IMac is not wifi capable.

Can I use my several-years-old IMac OS 10.4 to set up a wireless router, such as Aiport Base, so I can have wifi for the iPhone I plan to buy.  My IMac is not wife capable.

Yes, Airport Express Base Station connected to your Mac by ethernet will work as a bridge. Or you can connect the AE directly to your router/modem by ethernet if it's a non-wi-fi router and it will act as a relay for that.

  • HT3500 How can I add WPS (pin)  [for a WiFi capable CAMERA] to Time Capsuale WiFi

    Hi,
How can I add WPS (pin)  [for a WiFi capable CAMERA] to Time Capsuale WiFi network?
    Regards

I suggest that you use the Add Wireless Clients feature in AirPort Utility.
Normally, this feature is used to add a wireless printer, but it will work with any wireless device.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Select the Time Capsule and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab at the very top of the screen
    Click Add Wireless Clients

  • I'm in the process of creating a WiFi network from my IMac to my LG HDTV.  I am incorporating a LG WiFi capable Blu-ray player and will purchase an Apple Express or Apple Extreme router. I need some advise on using this aquipment.

I need help in determining the best way to create a WiFi network from my IMAC to a WiFi capable LG Blu-Ray player that will connect to my LG HDTV.  Since I will only need one network I need to know which is the best Apple Airport router to use (Express or Extreme).  What is the correct way to connect these units?  It seem self explanitory, but I'm checking my thinking.  My HDTV is about 20' from where the airport router will be installed with a wall between them.  Has anyone created this network?  Is this the best way to create a WiFi network?

But in basic terms WEP is the old wireless encryption standard that now is less secure than the newer WPA encryption standard. Thats basically the difference Its why I cant understand why nintendo insist that the ds can only use a WEP conenction?
So insecure it can be cracked in less than 5 mins so not worth having. Best if possible to get a CAT5E cable for it, they are cheap enough for any length on ebay.

You mentioned some office-level multifunction copier, though, costing more: which one would that be?
The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE C2225 with the Booklet Finisher-M1. This finisher will fold and saddle-stitch your booklet on the fly for up to 5 sheets of A4 paper - making a 20 page booklet. And the printer driver for OS X will re-order the pages in your document so you don't have to get the page order correct before you send the print job.

  • Is the new nano wifi capable?

    is it?

If you go to the online Apple store, select iPod Nano (new), and select iPod Nano Technical Specs you can find out for yourself. There is does not mention wifi, therefore the new iPod nano is not wifi capable.

  • Vista Adhoc Wifi And Itouch 2nd Gen

Im a student attending a college campus and where I reside there is no Wifi connection in range, so lately ive been looking for ways to set up a connection for my ipod touch to have wifi access to the internet. A couple of my friends have set up a wireless router in their living quarters and I have been able to access the internet there, but i find it very difficult to do this since i do most of my school work in the living room, away from my computer. My computer has a wired LAN connection to the internet, but having the ipod touch just makes it so much easier to work i the living room.
A few days ago, I found out about the Ad Hoc network setting, which enabled to me to make a hotspot in my apartment without a router for as long as my computer is on. I was excited about this new discovery, until i realized it doesnt last.
I am able to successfully setup the adhoc network on vista, successfully connect my ipod AND surf the internet with it, but if i dont use it for a short amount of time or if i put the ipod to sleep, the internet will not work when i try to use it later.
I would then have to then set up the network again, and its really troublesome.
One thing i did realize though is that there is an IP address in the Router and DNS field when the internet is working. But they are empty when the internet isnt working.
On the other hand, The IP address and Subnet Mask field are never empty, which tells me its connected to the network, just not the internet.
The internet stays connected everywhere else with a router (friends apartment, library, home, etc.) just not to on the adhoc network set up on my laptop (running vista).
If anyone can give me pointers on how to fix it, that would be great.
    Thanks so much in advanced.

I think there is a reasonably easy fix for this. After a period of inactivity, you need to need to re-obtain connection settings from your Adhoc network. Your Touch will "connect" to the network, but nothing will appear to work.
Open Settings, and tap WiFi. In choose a Network, tap the blue arrow next to the network you are connect to. Tap DHCP and then tap Renew Network Lease. You should be all set.
I'm not sure of what settings Vista allows you as far as lease time goes, but if you set it to never turn off, you probably won't have to do that little step above.

  • How to tell if Desktop is WIFI capable???

I have a Pavillion 6000 Desktop.  How do I tell if this unit is WIFI enabled?
I'm wanting to use AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G unit as my household internet device and don't know whether I can with this pc or not.  Out here in the sticks the only internet access available is Air Card and / or Satellite.  I would like to replace both of them with the AT&T mobile hotspot but don't know if pc will do it or not.

  • Want to enhance wifi strength - router in one room, wifi capable computer in another

I need to enhance the wifi signal in my home in order to utilize a wifi ready computer on another floor. The wifi indicates 2 out of 5 bars on the wifi indicator, but frequently loses the signal completely. I have several coaxial ports around the house and have heard that there is an old school Motorola device out there that I can use to boost the wifi signal.
I am using the router in the room where the fios wire enters the residence and want to leave it there....any suggestions?

The "old school Motorola" device is MoCA bridge.  It will provide an Ethernet port active on your LAN anywhere you have coax.  You'd then need to plug a WiFi access point or router into the Ethernet port.
Or, you could pickup an old Actiontec WiFi router online and use it as a single bridge and access point.
There are lots of discussions of how to do this in these forums.  Spend some time searching and looking around and you'll find them.

I bought a Power Mac (Mac Pro?) in March, 2008.  Does this machine have Wi Fi capability?  If it does how can I initiate Wi Fi?

Look on the MenuBar. A Mac with no Wi-FI will shows a distinctive completely grayed-out Wi-Fi Icon (not just a black outline.)
Or look in About this Mac > ( More Info ) > Report >  system report > Network > Wi-Fi
Installed Hardware always shows the many channels available. If none are listed, you likely do not have the correct adapter installed.
These adapters are available on the Used market and Amazon. Installation is fussy because everything is so small, and there are several antenna wires to attach correctly.
There are two models, and most sellers know which Macs they apply to. Installing the wrong one sometimes means you cannot do a software Upgrade.
