Adjusting field size depending on data returned

Hi
I need to display output from an xmltype column in the database. How can I set the field so that it adjusts its size depending on the amount of data returned for that xml column?

This can be done by setting the Vertical Elasiticity and Horizontl Elasticity properties of the field. Try setting both to Variable.

You need to set OUTPUTLEN field from field catalog table for every column.
DATA lt_fieldcat TYPE lvc_t_fcat
DATA lw_fcat type lvc_s_fcat .
lw_fcat-fieldname = 'BNAME' .
lw_fcat-inttype = 'C' .
lw_fcat-outputlen = '12' . -----> for e.g. set width of column BNAME
lw_fcat-coltext = 'User Name' .
lw_fcat-seltext = 'User Name' .
APPEND lw_fcat to lt_fieldcat .

How to fix the size of table data in html

I want to fix the size of table data in html. ie if i want to insert only 50 char in a <td> field then it contain only 50 character, after that it switched to another line and contain the remaining character. Means <td> field wil not get automatically adjust there size according to data.

you cant specify how many characters a td cell can have but u can specify the pixel width of a td cell
<td width=50>
as long as you have wrap text on, then text will not force the box size over the 50 pixels
this wont limit it to only 50 chars though, you will probably have to use some javascript to cut the string down to size (unless youre using something like php or asp then that will do the trick too)

Is it possible to size a flash chart based on the amount of data returned?

My chart is based on a date range. If a user enters say a range of one year, I need the line chart to be rather large so show all the data points. Though if they select just a week, then the chart can be much smaller. I only see the hard coded values to set the size of the chart (Chart Width and Chart Height). Can those be changed on the fly based on the amount of data returned?
Using Application Express 3.1.2.00.02 and AnyChart 3.3

Hello Hillary,
I tried your suggestion, but still not working for me. I added hidden text field that wold hold the vaule of the width for the chart. Then I reference that field in the chart source. Is there some other property I need to change as well? Any more suggestions? Thanks.

Data Source - Bad Field Size (Row Number)

I get following Exception "Data Source - Bad Field Size" when I run:
oForm_ActivityView.DataSources.DataTables.Item("mtx_C").ExecuteQuery("SELECT...
The Select statement run fine in SQL 2005.
I am using following SQL statement to get the row number:
ROW_NUMBER()OVER (ORDER BY OCLG.ClgCode) AS RowNumber,
If I remove the statement it works fine.
How do I get the row number in B1 to my Matrix?

I fought with this in the past too and solution for me was:
original query
select ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY ItemCode) AS RowNumber, * from oitm

or convert the rownumber to nvarchar instead of integer as
convert(nvarchar(10), ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY ItemCode) ) as RowNumbver
check it and let me know

Bad data returned using DSEE6.3: JDBC Data View to DB2 for CHAR fields

I have created a JDBC dataview to a DB2 database using com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver. When using ldapsearch, the data returned is inconsistent with that which is on the database. The DB2 table has data types of CHAR, DECIMAL, and NUMERIC. For the Decimal and Numeric fields, I am not experiencing a problem. The data returned here maps exactly to that which is on the table. For CHAR fields, I get mixed results.
When defining JDBC attributes in DSEE, I mapped the sql-syntax attribute accordingly for each corresponding attribute on the DB2 table. As a side note, I also configured each attribute so the ldap-syntax = ces (Case sensitive). Also, I could not find a way to define the length of the char for my JDBC attribute. I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a way that I just haven't figured out yet.
For the CHAR fields, in some cases I get what's on the data source. In other cases, I don't. I've tried to find a pattern but have been unlucky so far. Many fields with length of just 1 come back ok, but a few of length 1 are incorrect. Some fields bigger then length 1 are ok, but the majority come back with garbage. Coincidently or not, it almost looks like a hash of some sort. I'm wondering if there is a character on the datasource that's causing problems with DSEE figuring out where the end of the string is. I'm using NetBeans to look at the database, but I don't have direct access to the DB2 database at this point to see the data directly.
Has anyone experienced something simliar or have any suggestions as to further research of this problem?

Upon further testing I have found that the problem mentioned exists only when using ldapsearch. When I used an ldap browser, the char fields looked as expected.

How could I Write data into a field in Oracle whose data type is VARCHAR2

The target data I want to write into Oracle is in http://tw.yahoo.com/info/utos.html.
Now, these data is stored in Mysql database and the field which stores these data uses "Text" as its data type.
I want to derive these data from mysql database and store them into a field of oracle database.
In oracle, I create field whose data type is varchar2(4000) to store these data.
I use JSP to derive data from mysql and insert into oracle through JDBC.
But the result of the page shows me that "javax.servlet.ServletException: Data size bigger than max size for this type: 25623".
Please anyone could help to resolve this problem?

My hunch is that the problem is that VARCHAR2(4000), but default, allocates 4000 bytes of storage. Depending on your database character set, a single character may require up to 4 bytes of storage.
If you are on 9i, you can declare the column VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR) to allocate 4000 characters of storage. You can also set NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS to CHAR, which will cause Oracle to assume that your declarations are in characters rather than bytes.

How to make lot size dependent in Material master?

Hello Experts,
I created a Material master for a Finished product in Pharma industry and in work scheduling screen, under the section "In house production time in days", I see that "lot size independent". What change(s) in my settings in the Material Master can change it to "lot size dependent"?
Does any changes in the "Lot size data" section in the view "MRP1" have any effect on this field?
Also one more question:
Where is the Usage for BOM first specified? Is it in material Master or when creating a BOM?

No,Lot size data in MRP1 view will not have any effect in inhouse production time in work scheduling view.
You need to maintain the base qty in work scheduling in order to get the scheduling time for lot size dependant.
BOM useage is first specified only during BOM creation.
Suppose if u maintain the BOM useage in material master before creation of BOM, then still u can create a BOM with different useage. During these case, there will be always inconsistencies.
Hence Useage is always specified first during BOM creation.

Changing field lable of KVGR1 data element.

I am changing field lable of KVGR1 data element. No. of depedent objects are also changed but some of the objects were end up with warning "Enahancement category for table missing". Since all this objects SAP Standard do I have to genarate key for every single one with warning to adjust the enhancement type.

I have already changed the Field labels and Description of KVGR1 data element using SSCR key.
Is it a good idea to revert it back. The dependent tables and structures are activated with warnings. Which is Enhancement category.

Incorrect data returned when using a date prompt

We are using BO XI R3.1 with fix pack 1.3 on windows with a CMS and report database on Oracle 11i. There is one report in which a date range is set by prompting for the Start and End date, depending on the dates entered it sometimes erroneously displays the message `No data to fetch`. It can be confirmed that there is actual data rows, by either running the SQL script in an application such as Toad or by hard-coding the start and end dates into the condition, indicating that it is the `Prompt` which is causing the problem.
For example if the start and end dates are 28/06/2010 - 02/07/2010 there will be no data returned, but if the end date is extended to 30/07/2010 then data will be returned which includes transactions from 28/06/2010 - 02/07/2010. Whether the date range is set using the SQL `between` operator or using the start date greater than or equal and end date less than or equal results in the same `no data to fetch` message displayed.
Is this a known issue or have other users come across this behaviour in their desktopIntelligence reports ?. It may be that it is fixed in subsequent service packs but for the time being our environment cannot upgrade beyond the existing fix pack. This problem can also be replicated on new reports and even on other date fields in the database, and if the prompt is incorporated into the Universe the problem still remains.
Meanwhile any thoughts or ideas on the problem are appreciated.

I've noticed similar behaviour in the past, and it had to do with a difference in language setting between client and server side.
So let's say dutch client, american oracle.
So oracle expects MM/DD/YYYY whereas the users think they must input DD/MM/YYYY.
Now happens something that I consider BO being to clever for its own good.
If a user enter 28/06/2010 it knows that can't have been MM/DD/YYYY since it is invalid that way,
so it swaps it! and gives 06/28/2010 to the database.
A date like 02/07/2010 doesn't get swapped because its valid,
so it gives 02/07/2010 to the database.
So ultimately the database tries to retrieve between Jun 28th and Feb 7th, which gives no data to fetch...
Thats why in situations with different date formats I never use a data field to prompt,
but request the data in a certain format as string and convert it myself in the universe to a dateformat for the database to process. I just state the expected input format to the user so there are no surprises anymore.
Something like "Give date from (ddmmyyyy)"...

Custom Field in Asset Master Data

Dear Experts,
I want to ask about a problem I'm having when adding a new field in Asset Master Data ( AS01 & AS02 ).
I'm adding new field on the Time-dependent Tab. I already create the exit & the new custom field, and with the help of the functional registered the new field.
I'm using a new installed SAP GUI 7.3 .
The problem is that the new field doesn't appear when I access the tcode unless I click on the new field location.
The problem seem doesn't appear in SAP GUI 7.1 & 7.2.
Is there any setting that need to be done or this is the problem with the SAP GUI 7.3

1, AS02 -> Menu: Environment -> screen layout -> Master data -> select layout and double click on Logic field group -> Select Logic field group 2 u2018Posting informationu2019 and double click on field group rules -> Change field group 13 to u2018Suppressed entry fieldu2019.
Alternatively
2, Use AO21 to customize the field as above.
Note: field u2018Planned. retirement onu2019 in asset master is connected to the function u2018Simulate up to planned retirement dateu2019 in asset reports. After field u2018Planned. retirement onu2019 of asset master data is deactivated, the function u2018Simulate up to planned retirement dateu2019 in asset report will be disabled.

How to change the field size cache/buffer in a query

I query a field from sql developer, the field is cases_history, it resides in a data mart in the global network of our company.
this field is big in size, it stores logs in a sequential way, so field size increases a lot.
when i query it and try a "single record view" the field is cut off and can´t see all of its content..
WHAT I THOUGHT AND IT DOESN´T APPLY
1. maybe in database connections in the system tab, I go to the oracle data mart that i am interested in and change buffer and cache
but it doesn´t work, sql developer keeps showing part of the field
2. maybe it was then the buffer size in sql developer, so I change it, but no luck
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE?

The literal within <..> is supposed to be replaced by the actual field name (as I didn't know the fields). In this case, I am changing your code for costcenter/company-code.

You can use this code for update rule of company_code. You have to replace '<keydatefield>' with a field name that contains the date on which the company is to be derived. If there is a date in your comm_structure (eg aedat) which you can use, you can specify that field in place of this literal (instead of comm_structure-<keydatefld> use comm_structure-aedat). If you have no such field, and you wish to use current date for getting the company code from time-dependent master data, you can use sy-datum (ie replace comm_strucutre-<keydatefld> with sy-datum).
And it should work.
The 'master data attribute' option is one of the options when you create update rule (one of the radio button options).

If your txn data in the cube doesn't have a date, how does it know it is Feb data, or, it is March data?
If it has a date or month field, you should modify and use this code to update the company based on that date instead of system date.
Other than that minor variation, it is already doing what you look for.

Hi, please advise when the system uses this lot size times data in mrp4 view? Where we need to specify that whether lot size dependent or independent need to select? When the system uses this data and when the system uses the planned delivery days and in-house production days which is in mrp2? Pls advise.

In-house production time use for in house manufacture materials like HELB and FERT.
In-house production time is independent of the order quantity.
Lot size depnendent timing calculate from the routing. It is calculated byadding the lead times of all operations, the float before production, and the float after production.
You schedule the routing for a base qty The in the scheduling results screen click the button" scheduling results"
You will get the results screen in days.
In that screen at the botton there is abutton update material master.
After this go to CA96 There update the material master.
