Adjusting midi info to equal measures.

i'm learning logic at uni the only thing they can tell me on how to make midi notes, say, the same length or velocity, i have to go into the event float, and go through each note one at a time and adjust them. please tell me there is a quicker way to do this because this is crazy and stupid.!!
in ableton, you select all, then note thats the longest, drag is down til its the smallest it'll go, then they are all the same size, ready to adjust to the same value, the same for velocity etc.
please help.

That sounds almost hilarious. It really is dead simple.
1) To change all notes to same velocity in the Piano Roll, select the notes, select the velocity tool, hold Opt + Shift and adjust one of the notes. Hey presto! All notes get the same velocity.
2) To make all the notes the same lenght, see above, but change one the lenght of one note; the others get the same value.
3) To make all selected notes end at the same position, select the notes, hold Shift and drag one of the notes to, say, next bar. Done.
Hope this helped!

I have upgraded Apple Aperture from version 2 to version 3 and I'm having a problem with the "Highlights and Shadows" adjustment. According to the user's manual, I should have access to an advanced disclosure triangle which would allow me to adjust mid contrast, colour, radius, high tonal width and low tonal width.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to access this advanced section, I'd be most grateful.

    Hi David-
The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

  • Save Learned Midi info?

    hi there,
I'm a professional using Logic and I have songs that were created in Logic 8, so have to have 8 installed along with 9 (since they are basically incompatible.) This is not a problem. It was explained to me by tech support that 9 is made to coexist with 8 for this express reason. But I use Logic with midi controls mapped to a Korg NanoKontrol and I find when I swap between 8 and 9 that all of the learned controls are lost and I have to reinput them (which takes a solid 10 or 15 minutes.) Frankly, sometimes this midi info is lost even without swapping from 9 to 8. It seems a little bit delicate! Taking 10 or 15 minutes to remap is not too big a deal, but if I have a burning desire to record an idea it's 10 or 15 minutes too long to wait!!!
    Here's my question:
Is there a way to save the midi controls that I have taught Logic so I can easily just refresh them when they are lost?
I very much appreciate any input at all! Thanks in advance!
    - Fredo Viola

He actually really sounded like he knew what he was talking about quite intimately and he provided great tech support.
    Cool.
But because the program architecture is so vastly different it simply is not recommended.
Well, not recommended is the word on the street, yes. But this is not an "incompatibility", it's issues with Logic's project handling itself. It's simply too easy to get corrupted projects, and this is a flaw in Logic. If the song formats were designed/changed to be incompatible, LP9 simply wouldn't let you load earlier project versions - which would be clearly undesirable.
There are too many (and this was his word:) incompatibilities.
Yes, and I expect that word was chosen very deliberately, because it's a corporate policy to not admit flaws in the software. Therefore it's more politic to say there are incompatibilities rather than suggest flaws.
But yes, as I say, there are indeed issues with LP9 working with earlier version songs which can manifest themselves in some circumstances.
but just because it says you can open songs in the manual doesn't mean they are going to work out.
Sure. But if it's an official, documented feature that doesn't work properly in some situations would suggest that this is more along the lines of buggy handling, rather than a designed in intentional incompatibility or change in the song format that cannot be effectively accomodated.
Anyway, not going to devolve into an argument over semantics, so...

  • Adjusting Midi Clock/All Midi for Input Latency

First of all - I want to say that I LOVE Logic 8. I feel like I am working really fast, and smoothly with the new interface.
I wanted to ask about adjusting external midi devices delay for input latency compensation.
I have been trying to line up Ultrabeat and TR-606 synced via MIDI clock and a Kenton DIN sync, and have been adjusting the MIDI clock delay and I can get VERY close. Usually -4ms is the magic number, but -5ms is too much, and puts the drum machine before the beat.
My question is, is there ANY way to make finer adjustments? How are other people dealing with syncing midi devices accurately without having to slice up audio after the fact?
I toyed aroung with record delay, and it did not seem to actually do anything.
I am running a Mac Pro Quad 2ghz with an Mbox 2 Pro. My buffer is set at 64 with I/O Safety Buffer on.

An I/O buffer size of 32 may be too low under certain conditions. You'll know if it's OK to leave at 32 if you run a session with lots of plugs and/or audio tracks and don't experience audio glitching.
On my system, and for the kind of work I do, I was able to get away with 32 until I decided to use GPO, and it simply won't function at 32. Needed to up the buffer to 64; my point is that sometimes a single type of plug will cause you to up your buffer size out of necessity.
But yeah, stick with the lowest size possible unless/until something forces you to increase it.
I think the amount of MIDI delay will depend on the specific interface you're using as well as the reaction time of specific pieces of gear you're using. But it's good to see that you've gotten a good result with your 32/-5 setting.

  • Adjust .midi volume

I'm playing myMidiFile.midi and the volume is always really high, does anyone know how to adjust the volume of my file
    thanks in advance

I am having the same trouble, This code is should work, but no luck for me. I think it may be different on Java 5???
    MidiChannel[] channels = synthesizer.getChannels();
    for (int i=0; i<channels.length; i++) {
    channels.controlChange(7, <value between 0 and 127 for volume>);

  • Adjust midi lag for single midi port only

Hello all. I am running L8 on a G5 and Cubase 4 on a laptop. I have a MOTU MTPAV on the G5 and an Edirol UA25 usb midi/audio device on the laptop. I connected the laptop to output port 8 on the MTPAV and can now access a load of VSTs I have on it from Logic, by creating a multi instrument and assigning it to midi out port 8.
The problem I have is with the midi, there is a slight delay hearing the sounds when the keys are pressed. I thought it might be audio latency but I played about with Logic Preferences, Midi and Sync there is a setting, All Midi Out, you can set a positive or negative setting for delay. When I set it to +90 milliseconds the lag/delay totally disappears and is in perfect time with the metronome coming from Logic.
The problem is that other midi devices are affected so any of my external midi gear which plays in time with Logic's timing properly, now plays too early. Is there any way of sending the midi compensation to a specific port instead of all the ports ??
    Cheers

I received this Christmas a Casio WK-110 and couldn't make it work on my MacBook Pro, with or without the Yamaha driver.
However, I decided to write my own driver, and publish it on Google Code. It turns out it was a lot easier than I thought - the sample code provided by the CoreAudio SDK worked almost instantly with my keyboard.
Here is the project page : http://code.google.com/p/casiousbmididriver
Download the binary driver, extract it, open the disk image and copy the CasioUSBMIDIDriver.plugin file into your Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers folder. Your keyboard should now work.
This driver should work for USB devices identified by 0x07CF/0x6802. It might me possible that some keyboards aren't identified by this ID, but it shouldn't be hard to create a second driver for these.

  • SPDIF Volume Adjustment, some infos...

Hi, I have a X-Fi Titanium edition with an Astro A40 7.1 Mixamp for Dolby Digital Live encoding connected thru SPDIF digital connection: everything ok, connection ok but I can't change the volume even with the Creative main volume knob and with the Windows one.
I can only adjust volume with the main volume knob "hardware" of my mixamp.
    O.S. Seven 64bit SP1Goal:
I can see two "Devices" in the Windows Volume Mixer:
    "Speakers"
    "SPDIF Output"
When I change the Main volume of either device, the audible volume through SPDIF is always 100%
Strange thing is if I change the Applications' own volume in the Volume Mixer (after selecting the "Speakers" Device, it change the volume to SPDIF successfully. But you cant use the Volume Mixer when running games, because its a hassle to ALT-TAB, and some games crash when you do this.
    Are there any alternatives?
I need a utility that will detect the Volume Controls on my Keyboard (they are standard media keys), and set the volume of all the currently open Applications that use sound. Or a utility that will directly modify the Main SPDIF output volume.

That's okay. I said the exact same thing yesterday (that it wasn't there) and look how may posts I have...

  • Why does erasing hyper events also erase the MIDI info in score?

That just about says it, if I erase automation in the Hyper editor the score and piano roll go blank, is this the normal behavior? I don't even know how the automation there got written-I never meant to do any automation, does it have to do with track record enable buttons? But not all of those were turned on in this Piano and strings piece. And is it normal that in 9.1.5 the interpretation box gets checked when the iMacĀ  is turned off, that box seems always to be turning its; self on, not pretty.

  • Can't adjust track info?

I'm not sure if this is an iTunes problem or a Quicktime problem, actually...
I'm trying to add video files to my iTunes, and I'm having a problem. If I import mpg4 files directly into iTunes, I have no problems - however some of the files need to be edited, and when I edit them with QuickTime Pro first (which saves them as .mov files) and THEN try to import them, iTunes won't let me change the track information. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to adjust hostname info for Sendmail

    Hello folks,
When sending mail from the command line in Solaris, the emails always say they are from [email protected]
What I'd like instead would be [email protected]
What file must I edit to make this happen?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Lurch

It also heavily depends what you use to send the mail. Normally the so called MUA (mail user agent) can set its own 'from' adress. So, suppose you're using the 'mail(1)' command tool then all you'd need to do is include a 'From:' header.
IMO thats a lot better than to mess with sendmail since modifying sendmail behaviour will change this system-wide, so all users who send mail will have the same kind of from domain, which isn't always what you want.

  • How do I send my BMP info from logic to pedals and keys?

How do I send my BMP info from logic to pedals and keys?
Is it possible to sync my logic bmp with my microkorg so that my korg automatic will sync with the BMP from logic?

I'm not faniliar with the Micro, but logic outputs mtc and midi clock. The serttings are under project settings/synchronization. You'll have to set the Micro to external sync and be sending midi info from your computer to the Micro. Then if you hit play or record in Logic, the micro will chase it.

  • Recording MIDI and Audio at the same time....

I am having an issue recording a simple piano softsynth along with a guide vocal. Whenever I punch in, the audio punches fine but the MIDI/softsynth track hiccups, causing a lag in sound even though the MIDI info seems to record fine. Also, this does not happen when recording MIDI alone-everything punches in fine. Is there some setting I'm missing somewhere or is Logic not able to do this smoothly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Fred,
I bring you my wisdom...Yes there is hope.
What you need to do is set the part you want to bounce into cycle mode. Dont worry, it will not cycle, it just knows now where to start and stop.
Audio and Midi can be recorded at the same time, as long as the midi is from an AU within the mac and not from an external source.
    Good luck,

  • Need help with MIDI for Korg M3

My current set up is Korg M3 and Access Virus TI2; audios are hooked into a Behring Xenyx 1204fx (USB) with both M3 and Virus TI2 USB plugged into my MAC.
Right now I'm having difficulty in setting up MIDI tracks on Logic 9 using MIDI channels from my Korg M3. I would please like an explanation/instructions as to how to set up MIDI channels with Logic 9 for my M3.
My Virus has a TI-program that is a plug-in to manage its own MIDI-channels, and was also wondering if Korg M3 had a software similar to that.
    Thanks

    Hi James
1st check and make sure you have midi coming into Logic. look at the right side of the transport, where it says no in and no out, when you play your keyboard does midi info show up there. if it does, you have midi coming in, if not, then there is a communication problem with your controller
next choose the correct track. there are 3 types of tracks in Logic to record music to:
Audio Tracks, for recording audio, ie voice, guitar etc
Audio Instrument tracks, for playing logic built in virtual instruments
Midi tracks, for playing instruments that are outside of logic, like midi keyboards, modules, and multi VI's
if you are choosing a midi track, these are the default tracks in logic that have the icons, like piano, synth and bass, you will not get any sound unless you have an outboard midi keyboard or module that you are using
choose an Audio Instrument track, they are labeled Inst 1, Inst 2 etc. you have to assign and instrument to them. at the left you will see a channel strip, about the middle of the channel strip there is a Label that says "I/O" this is for in and out and this is where you assign the instrument to be played

  • Logic Not Reading/Writing Midi Information Correctly

I am new to Logic and to the world of midi in general -- so please go easy on me. Here is the problem I am having:
I am using an M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro with a Roland EV-5 Expression pedal plugged into the volume control. When I play software based instruments with this set up (such as Garritan's Solo Cello) everything sounds fine. But, when I record the performance in Logic 8 and play it back, it appears that Logic 8 is playing back incorrect Midi info. For instance, if I do a crescendo from 0 to 127 using the expression pedal and record it, Logic plays it back in a way that sounds like it starts out at around 127 and then drops to a lower number and kind of "flutters" back up into the crescendo.
I am not sure what is causing this and any help would be appreciated.

Open the Midi event editor and check the recorded controller events. Probably the EV-5 is transmitting wrong data to the physical Input of Logic.

In my screen shot you can see my drum track is highlighted. But in the lists window I can't seem to find my way back to just the drum midi info to do my editing. No matter what I do. This was never a problem before. Can someone tell me what I screwed up. Logic Pro. Thanks.

I can see it. The forum has become buggier again lately.
