Adjusting Page Layout

I want the top of the photos in the thumbnail page and the top of the photos in the detail view to be aligned right below the page title. Is there a way to adjust the container/field that the thumbnails an photos reside in so that there is no space between the photos and the edges of the contianer? They currently look like this.
I've tried adjusting the layout in iWeb, but it won't allow me to raise it above the bottom of the text box containing the webpage title. I've tried editing the css with no luck. Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

Go to 'edit' page -> Portlets Tab. There you can edit te regions (click on the pencil image in the region you want to edit). You can set a percentage or a width in pixels. REMARK The width of the region is also affected by the width of the portlets you want to place inside the region.

  • Adjust page layout

Hi, I'm testing Pages Beta on iCloud, but I cannot adjust the layout, like margins and page size. Someone can help me? Cheers, Alex

The feature you seek is presently not available. If you want to preset margins and page size, these will need to be done to an existing Word or Pages document, either in OS X, or iPad, that you subsequently upload into Pages for iCloud beta.
    Dumb, but reality for now.

  • Writers - please help with page layout and headers/footers in Pages

    Hello
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I have fiddled around with my page layout and can't figure this out for myself!
When I type a manuscript, I like to have a header and footer giving the book title, chapter, my name, etc. I'm finding that the header and footer is set to a wider range than I have set the main body of the page. Would you leave it that way, so that it is easily differentiated from the actual text, or would you align the left and right margins on the header and footer to match the body of the text? And if so, how do you do this please?
Secondly, I can't figure out how to increase the top and bottom gap so that there is a good space between the header and the first line of text.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
    Thank you!

I don't understand what you did.
When we use the normal tools:
Inspector > Document > Margins, the widths of header, body and footer are the same.
Secondly, I can't figure out how to increase the top and bottom gap so that there is a good space between the header and the first line of text.
With the already named tools, we may adjust top & bottom margins with no change on the header & footer.
As I often wrote, looking in the PDF User Guide which is delivered with every copy of iWork is an efficient way to spare time.

  • My Adobe XI software no longer converts Word to PDF files with hyperlinks or page layout preserved.

Is anyone else having the same problem where the initial installation worked fine and over time, you are no longer able to adjust the setting in the 'convert to PDF' menu for Word documents?  I am now faced with Word documents that lose their hyperlinks on conversion and when there are changes in page orientation (e.g., portrait to landscape and back again), the software creates sub files for each kind of page layout.  In a word, the software has become useless.  What can I do to fix this?

In order to preserve links on Mac Word to PDF. You need to do as follows (note this only preserves links created by Word's auto Correct. Not by Word's URL Creator.)
    Method #1
Create Document save as .docx as backup.
Go to File Menu > Print
Click and hold the PDF button, a Context menu appears.
Choose Adobe Quality PDF, or Adobe PDF (depends upon Version of Mac OS X)
First Choose quality (similar to Job Options in Distiller) and whether to open using Acrobat Or Reader.
Next a Title will appear. (in format "microsoft.nameoffle.docx.pdf").
You can leave file name as is or remove the Microsoft and the .docx from the Name
    Save File.
This method also will print pdf, even if it has section and Page breaks except when there is orientation change from Portrait, or landscape.
    Method #2
    Do step 1 above.
    Locate the file Created.
Drag the file either on top the actual Application or its Icon in the Dock.
    Wait ......
    When Acrobat opens Immediately save.
Again all links created with Auto-correct will be live.
And pages will be intact in the PDF except when there is a Change in orientation.
Auto correct will create links/URL's  when you type such the will automatically turn blue and become underlined. And clicking on the in the word Document  will go to the link.
What does not work until Adobe fixes a 10-15 year old bug is where you select word then go to Insert menu> URL. A window opens and you choose the link or email, in the URL Creator.
Also the Bug where changes in section, and pages breaks cause new PDF that have to be put together has not been completely cured. (Still splits when orientation changes.) Has been proved by Microsoft to be a Bug Adobe can't or won't fix. You simply take a Mac Word File open it in the PC version and create a PDF. And works perfect.

  • User's Page Layout in Adobe XI does not work

I'm having a hard time to configure the default page layout on my Adobe Reader XI version.
It's really driving me crazy, I've already tried to edit my user preferences as "single page continuous" and "fit width", though every single document opened by the "latest and best version of Adobe Reader" is in "single page" and "100%"...
All right... It's very annoying indeed, though it's not the worst part yet. Having assumed it's just impossible to make a real "user default layout", I've tried to adjust it manually, but when clicking at any other page, the freaking "single page" and "100%" zoom come back!
I've seen people with the same problem in other forums forum before, but no one had a clue how to fix it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vitor

While I'm not sure how many different problems might cause the same symptom, the only time I've seen something easy work to fix this is a change in Preferences > Documents > Open Settings. The checkbox Restore Last View Settings When Reopening Documents overrides the settings in Preferences > Page Display > Default Layout and Zoom. I would say though, that in the case where this worked, the view did not reset as you paged through the document. That sounds horrible.

  • How to convert a word doc to PDF while retaining original page layout of the word document

I am trying to convert a Word document to a PDF.  When I do so, the page layout is changed, with the result that document headings that are on one page in the Word document are on other pages in the PDF.  What settings do I need to adjust to retain the original page layout after the conversion--ie. sentences/words on one page in the Word document stay on that page in the PDF.  I'm using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and Word 2013 in Windows 8.  Thanks.

Start with having the Adobe PDF printer set as your Default printer.
(You do not want Word changing to match printer metric as this can goober output.)
Open Word. Review all Options of configuration to assure there are no surprises.
Prior to printing always perform updates of any fields (styles for auto-numbering and other such use field codes -- update all field codes before a print job).
When Word is properly configured and the content appropriately mastered then the output PDF will be spot on.
    (Input dictates output)
Ensure the installed Acrobat version and Office application versions are compatible.
Ensure the installed Acrobat is compatible with the OS in use.
Check that PDFMaker is configured as desired.
Check that the Distiller job option used is configured as desired.
(PDFMaker and Distiller are installed when Acrobat is installed.)
    Be well...

  • Setting page layout in Reports 6i doesn't work, gap gets to big.

We are forced to use good old' Oracle Reports 6i because another application uses this to create its forms and reports. The problem is, that we want to print those reports on continuous paper with specific measures. In millimetres it would be 210 mm x 305 mm. We already set the measures of the main part report to those specifications, but it appears that this wasn't enough.
If the report is printed straight from Reports 6i, the first page is all ok, but the second one has an offset of about 10 mm. This offset gets higher on every page, so approximately on page 4, the page is already partly on the next page of the continuous paper. This problem really drives me crazy.
I have studied this forum for a whole afternoon, but I couldn't find an answer. I have read many posts regarding the margin "bug" of Reports 6i, which seems to influence this particular report. As I am completely new to reports and Reports 6i in particular, I would love to get a helping hand here at the forums. Maybe someone can support me here.
    Many thanks in advance!

Where you set the measurement ?
    Did you follow this ?
    @ Report Object Navigator
    1. Select Layout Model >> Main Section then properties
set Width, Height and Orientation under Section
    Adjust your layout and
    Try...
    Hope this works..

  • Adaptive Page Layouts: UI Corrections on Search/KD Pages

This thread started as a "how to make search results look like google" but after getting more familiar with search I started to realize that the KD is (to a certain extent) disconnected from the search results look and feel and that both would have to be tweaked. Not only that, but there are great inconsistencies between the 2. SO! I'm going to add info here as I tweak...it isn't rocket science but each thing takes 20-30 minutes to debug and correct and I figure in might save someone a few minutes here or there.
    <BR><BR>
Like at most companies, our users are always clamoring for us to make search more like google. With the release of 6.5 and adaptive page layouts it is pretty easy to make it "look" like google at least.
<P>The first thing you'll need to adjust is your mainstyle.css file <BR>(<root> \ptimages\imageserver\plumtree\portal\private\css)
    <P><BR>
To make the "Properties" link that purple'ish hue:<BR>
    .ali-search-results-modified a {
       <BR> color:#77c;<BR>
    }<BR><BR>
To make the "Modified By" field green:<BR>
    .ali-search-results-modified {<BR>
       color:green;<BR>
        line-height:1.5em;<BR>
    }<BR><BR>
To shift the results closer to the left side of the page:<BR>
    #ali-search-results {<BR>
        clear:both;<BR>
        float:left;<BR>
        width:85%;<BR>
        min-width:625px;<BR>
        margin:12px 0 0 4px;<BR>
        padding:0;<BR>
    }<BR><BR>
To make the main link blue and the right size:<BR>
    .ali-kd-docs-title a {<BR>
         font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;<BR>
         font-size:16;<BR>
         font-weight:none;<BR>
         color: #0000CD ;<BR>
         letter-spacing:0px;<BR>
         text-decoration:none;<BR>
    }<P><P>
Once you get the colors right things still look a little "not quite google". The next set of changes will hopefully fix that a bit.
    <BR>
    <P>
    1) Move the file type icon to the right side of the result title<BR>
Search for: p class="ali-kd-docs-title" <BR> within your searchresultslayout.html file and move the line that says <pt:core.html pt:tag="img" src="$result.icon" alt="$htmlEncodedName"/> from the start of that section to the end.
    <BR>
    <P>
    2) Add a space between search results<BR>
Search in your searchresultslayout.html file for "ali-search-results-modified", go down about 10 lines and you should be at a close tr tag: this is the end of your results row and where you want to add the space. Add another TR like so:
<tr><pt:core.comment><!-- The purpose of this TR is to add space between search entries --></pt:core.comment>
       <td colspan="2">img alt="" src="http://yourserver/imageserver/plumtree/images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="1" border="0" </td>
    </tr><BR><BR>
That will get your results pretty darn close to google and probably make your users quite happy.
    <BR>
Post any extra tweaks that help! I could use some help here!

The KD Pagination is in a column vs the search results page where it is in a row at the very bottom of the page.
This looks like an innocent mistake because the fix to make them identical involves moving a single close div tag!
To make the pagination move to the bottom of the page and into a row (just like search does it) go into your knowledgedirectorylayout.html file and search for <div id="ali-kd-pagenav">
directly above this is a close div tag for the id="ali-kd-documents". Simply move that close tag beneath the ali-kd-pagenav and restart your IIS and voila! just like search results:)

  • IWeb page layout vs. internet page layout

Hello, can anyone explain to me why when I adjust the layout of my pages in iWeb they begin to be cropped when moved past the layout borders, yet when I upload them for internet browsing they are centered with a vast amount of room on either side of the page?
I.E. it seems as though my iWeb pages aren't filling the entire browser window once uploaded. Is this standard and can this be adjusted?
    Thanks in advance!

When creating a new page iWeb, the default settings for page size is 700 px X 480 px. That can be adjusted via the Inspector under Page Layout. I use 1000 x 480 to give me more room.
I suppose you could go wider, but I believe my choice to be appropriate for most monitors out there today.
I've been on some friend's PCs that are 17 inchers and they have trouble viewing my page in its entirety. I can only image what the old timers are seeing.

  • Word Processing to Page Layout???

I've just a whole 100 page document in word processing (with lots of pictures). Is there any way that I could change the formating of the document from 'word-document' to 'page-layout' after the fact? Like with ONE click maybe?
    Or am I dreaming?

What benefit do you expect to get from this?
I think I can see a potential benefit. If you could easily put your text in full page text frames throughout the entire document, you could then go back and adjust the frame size on certain pages, where the layout requires it.
We may do all these tasks in the WP mode.
Linked text blocks are our friends.
We can do it, yes, but not easily. If you have a hundred pages, you need to connect one hundred text boxes by hand. In InDesign, you basically just shift-click once, and all the one hundred pages are created with linked text boxes in just a few seconds.
It would also be a way to easily create blank pages in the middle of the document.
Insert two page breaks do the trick.
It works, if you do not care where the blank page is. But if you want page 14 to be empty, two page breaks will not do it, as you do not know how the text will float around. In word processing mode, my spontaneous solution would be to insert a white floating picture that covers page 14, and make sure the text wraps around it.
InDesign has simpler solutions for this, but then it costs almost ten times as much as Pages.
In France it costs quite 13 times the price of the complete iWork package !
    Indeed.
Adobe's pricing policy is btw a mystery to me. InDesign's French version costs 1030 euro, but the English version is only 910 euro, even if you buy it in France. Do they really have to charge you 120 euro for speaking French?
Put another way, for the same price as one French copy, you can buy the English copy + iWork (in both French and English and a bunch of other languages) + dinner for two.

  • Default Frame Page layout

    Hi Experts,
We have created a new page layout from standard components com.sap.portal.layouts.framework.par
In this new layout has been defined a fixed size for the width of the page (width = 1024px) and alignment (align=center).
Applying this layout, all the elements contained in the Default FrameWork Page are in accordance with the size and alignment defined except the Top Level Navigation which is always adjusted to the left of the browser window.

  • Can I create a completely custom page layout for a book, positioning and sizing pictures and text?

I'd like to create a totally custom page, inserting photos at various locations and sizes as well as text regions.  Can this be done?   I haven't been able to find a way to do this.

I've found it's worthwhile spending time fiddling and adjusting Lightroom's templates and saving to Custom Pages but I haven't found a way of removing a custom page layout once I've finished using it or tweaked it some more. Can you say how to remove one, please, johnbeardy? I can put them in and out of Favourites but the Custom Pages list just gets too long.

  • Custom page layouts for iPhoto books- bleeds and type

I've been digging through the forum for info on creating custom page layouts. I have the basics: print PDF (to capture the page BG and graphics elements), manipulate in PhotoShop and place the custom page as a full page photo.
How does iPhoto deal with bleeds? Since I'm trying to recreate the style of the other pages I'd like it to match.
Is all type in an iPhoto book rasterized? The printed PDF retains type. Will rasterized type in PS layouts match "native" text in iPhoto?
I haven't purchased a book yet and I'm wondering if the book is sent to Apple as a PDF with vector data. If that's the case can custom pages be inserted into the PDF with vector type intact?
    Thanks all!
    rg

    gatz:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know much about bleeds but you can manipulate it in the iPhoto preference file with Pref Setter.
Regarding the rasterized type, you'll have to give it a try and then create a pdf of the book to check it out. In iPHoto 5 we used to be able to get a copy of the pdf file that was uploaded to Apple but in V6 that's not possible. I think the pdf file may be the same as we get when creating it via Print to PDF. Here's the info I received from Apple about book quality and materials:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Adjusting the layout to print all the text

Could anyone tell me how to adjust the layout in Pages? I've developed a marketing postcard and some of my copy on the far right of the card is covered by a light grey frame that I believe is the layout. All the margins are set to zero and I've tried to pick the layout from the ruler, to no avail. How do I move the layout (light grey frame) so I can print all my copy?
fairly new user to Apple, iMac G5 and loving it   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello Evelyn
From your description I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to. If you select View > Show Layout and then drag the corner of your window so that more than your page is shown on the right. You should see a dark grey box on the right hand side of the window. This is just so you can see the edge of your page.
You will find that your page is outlined by a thin light grey border. This represents the area of your page that your printer cannot print on. Pages picks this up from the print driver for the printer you have selected in Page Setup or the default printer. This can sometimes be quite large - on my printer it is 0.25cm.
Within the light grey border is the printable area of your page. You will notice that on a new blank document this consists of boxes for the header, a single column of text and a footer. You can control the dimensions of these by adjusting the relevant settings in the Inspector.
From your description of margins set to zero I suspect that you are referring to the non-printable area but you should see it around all of the page not just on the right hand side. Your printer may support borderless printing but how the OS X driver and Pages interact with this facility will be very device specific. You could try fiddling with the setup but the simplest solution would be to adjust the layout so that your copy fits within the printable boundary. It is pretty easy to do.
I hope this helps you but if you are talking about something else, please reply with a more detailed description.
