Administrator or higher level access privileges.....  HELP - my computer...

My computer and my printer all of a sudden won't talk. So I went to re-install and my computer won't let me install anything. It tells me I don't have authorization that I need 'Administrator or higher level access privileges.'
So I went into preferences to make sure that I was the authority, (as I am the only one setting the machine up, my husband uses it sometimes. ) And that appears set right. But it still won't let me install anything. And I can't print anything either. ?? HELP - QUICK -- PLEASE.... I have been trying to fix this myself for a week and can't.
Tonight I went through the apple care protection plan, and tried the quick reference guide and it tells me to put in the TechTool Deluxe and it won't give me authorization to even do that.....

Are you logged in as the administrator?
Does this happen even if you boot from DVD?

  • The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access

I am installing a new epson print driver on a G4 Quicksilver tower 10.4.11. When I try to install it, I get this message. "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges." I am stumped how to correct that issue.

  • "Administrator or higher level privileges." But I am the Admin!

I have a very frustrating problem. I noticed this for the first time when my printer stopped working. The scanner works, and I can run print tests from my computer but it won’t print. When I tried to reinstall the drivers I got an error message that says, “The software to be install needs Administrator or higher level privileges.” I typed in the correct password, which works for everything else. I am the only one using my computer and I am an administrator. This has never happened before.
Now I can’t install anything without this error message, not even my regular updates. Which is freaking me out.
I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’ve run disk utilities, repairs and permissions. I’ve created a new user (administrator) and tried that password/username.
I couldn’t find any other threads on here with an answer to this problem.
Thanks so much in advance if you can help me!! It is much appreciated! I have a lot of papers that are due next week and it would be awesome if I could figure this out.
Ask me anything you need to know. I have a duel power G5 with extra ram, running OS X.
    Thanks again,
    Jessie

.plist is temporary preference file for any application
try using file search for "installer", if "installer.plist" is not found anywhere you may need to reinstall the OS.
first you could try creating new user in System Preferences, restart computer, login as new user and try installing something.
if it works under different user, some other prefernce could have been corrupted in original setup.
in that case more drastic thing would be to log in as original user, go to your user home folder, then "library" folder and moving whole "preferences" folder to desktop.
after restart all settings will go to defaults though - network, printers, dock, desktop pics etc.
if it still won't work, OS files got corrupted and you may need to try "archive and install" option from 10.3.x installation disks:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
keep in mind it's a good idea to have backup of important files just in case.
try it step by step starting with creating new user and take your time.

Not sure exactly what you mean by errors. If they show up in your Scan Log, then they almost always involved files that you don't have read access to.
If they were errors during Definitions Update there will be more in your Update Log and are usually network related.
If they were infections then I would need to know the infection name and exact location of the file in order to be able to advise you on those.
To get detailed infomation on what ClamXav has found, after completing the scan, click in the top pane of the ClamXav window where it shows the Infection / File Name / Status to make sure it's in front and type the key combinations <command>-A, <command>-C (or choose "Select-All", "Copy" from the "Edit" menu) to copy the information to your clipboard, then come back here and type <command>-V or choose "Paste" to show us what was found where.

  • Problems with Item level access rights

I am having problems with a page group I created. I have applied item level security to an item on a page, managed by me and viewable by one access group. I then created multiple users and signed in as one user who was not in the access group to see that item. When I navigated to that page, I could see the item. When I restricted access to the tab on the page, I could not see the tab, so that worked. But when I opened access to the tab, I could still see the item.
    Here are my settings:
Page Group Properties: Display Page To Public Users checked and Enable Item Level Security checked.
Page Properties: Display Page To Public Users checked and Enable Item Level Security checked.
Tab Properties: Specify Access Settings checked and added all of the appropriate groups with view access.
Text Item Properties: Define Item Level Access Privileges and managed by me and viewable by one access group.

  • I have a new PC and I am getting the message "The iTunes Library File cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."  I am the only one using this PC and I have Windows 7 Pro and have an administrator account.  Help

Can anyone help me with this problem.  ITunes message," The iTunes library file cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."   I have administrator account and transferred files from old PC.  I downloaded new iTunes program on new PC.  I synced my iPhone to new PC, no problem.  I deleted old account after indicating shared files to new admin account.  Can anyone help?

A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them!

  • Re Time Machine "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file ".002332b7be8a" warning preventing backups--this may help temporarily

My TM is often giving me the "You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file “.002332b7be8a” in folder “Time Machine Backups”" message when I go to select my backup drive. I've reviewed past archived discussions on this and, like many other people, gotten completely flummoxed trying to find a permanent solution.  Tried the suggested fixes via Terminal and it didn't help because I couldn't get through the entire process without Terminal telling me it couldn't find a file or drive.  When I can find the time, I'm going to try Tinker Tool to reveal where that numbered file actually is and give it another go.
In the meantime, for those who are desperate to get their TM working again to get at least one backup done, I can offer people a temporary solution that's worked for me.
I've found that restarting my iMac somehow resets TM and usually allows it to do at least one of its automatic backups, sometimes several, before it reverts back to failing and producing that same darn warning message.  I only want a backup done once a day, so it's not that inconvenient to go this route.
There's another even quicker  method (perhaps a little more risky but hasn't been a problem for me yet) that I've been using more recently, and that is to simply unplug the external while the iMac is on (I close system preferences first though, and make sure TM isn't actually doing anything at the time) then plugging it back in and choosing the backup drive again in the TM system preferences window once that drive has shown up again in the Mac's list of devices.  I don't get that warning message when I do this.  It works every time for me and so far it hasn't lost or corrupted any data on the external, despite the warning message you get on Macs when you unplug a USB device without ejecting it first.  However, do this at your own risk--don't flame me if it backfires on you.  If you're of the opinion that it's not wise to unplug the device this way, then fine, go ahead and state such in this thread, but be polite about it.
Hope this helps anyone who's frantic to make a backup without having to start from square one with a whole new complete initial backup (can take many hours to make one) on a fresh external drive.
By the way, I've read somewhere that this problem was fixed with Snow Leopard.  Whether that's true is another matter.  I'm not quite ready to update to 10.6 for other reasons, even though I bought it, and I figure some other people are also still using 10.5.8 out of fear and loathing around the unknowns of installing a new OS too, so that's why I thought I'd post this message (couldn't find a discussion around this that was still active and not archived).

Wow, I haven't seen that in a looooong time!

Do you mean in #C5 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting?

It should be at the top level of the drive.

Yes.  I'm not sure if it was 10.6.0 or one of the early updates, but I haven't seen any reports of this in quite a while.

  • I can't sync my iphone to itunes. It says not enough access privileges? Help please?

I have a hp computer and I created another account on the computer so it's me and my mom's account. I been using my mom's but I want to sync it on my part of the computer and it says I don't have enough access privileges? I need help ASAP please?

What you describe indicates the user account on the computer has insufficient priviledges.
Is the account an Administrator or a basic user?

  • Macbook air: you do not have sufficient access privileges. you need to run this game from an administrator account??? I'm already on the administrator account?

I bought a mac game from www.gamehouse.com. Downloaded it and now trying to install to play. But everytime I go to install, a message keeps popping up telling me "Your account doesn't have sufficient access privileges. You will need to run this game once from an administrator account. Afterwards you will be able to run it from this account." I am already on the administrator account. Can someone please help?!

Only the developer can fix his apparently defective product.

  • ITunes music files cannot be edited, and new music files imported.  The messages says I do not have enough access privileges even though I am the administrator of the system.

Since installing the latest version of iTunes all my music files cannot be edited, and I cannot import new music files into iTunes.  The messages says I do not have enough access privileges even though I am the administrator of the system.  If anyone can help me sort this out I would be really grateful.  I have checked the read and write privileges for all the iTunes folders and it all seems in order so I can't understand it.
In general, I am getting really frustrated with Apple.  They seem to be getting ever more controlling in their approach to their consumers.  I need to edit music file information as I am a dj.  And why can't I import music, unless I buy it from iTunes?  Most of all, why can't I use the devices I paid a lot of money for in the way I want to use them, and not be forced to coerced to use apple's fee paying services (iCloud, iTunes).
I have used apple computers since the early 1990's, but in the last year I have gotten rid of my iPhone and my iPad and replaced them with Android devices.  Much better and much less control.  Perhaps it is time to switch from Apple altogether.

  • Error -5000 Insufficient Access Privileges - Can anyone help?

Hi, I have been using logic since version 4.1 and have never had this problem. About 50% of the files I import or audio I record have problems when using the Audio editor in logic.. I can't do simple things like Normalize, Fade in/out/, Gain, Time & Pitch etc... All i keep getting back is 'Error -5000 Insufficient Access Privileges For Operation'. I've checked the files are on read & write however I cannot figure out why it will not let me do anything to the audio.. Any advice appreciated! Kai P.S I've updated to the latest Version of Logic Pro 7.2

You should run "repair permissions" for your hard drives.
Check the Apple Help manual on exactly how to do this,it's not hard to do.
This is not a Logic Issue, but a file management issue...Access privileges is a term to describe what access level you have on each file on your computer. If you don't have write access, you cannot edit the file.
    I hope this helps,

iPod Classic 80GB. Message reads ' iTunes library cannot be saved you do not have enough access privileges for this operation'.  It says it has synced but it hasn't. Please help, I am not very tech minded.

See this article about troubleshooting the error message regarding access privelages.  It may be preventing your iTunes library from being able to save/retain music you have recently imported to it, which may explain why no new content is being added to your device.

  • Help! "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this application"

I am getting the following error when trying to open iTunes: "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this application." I am logged in with the admin (and only) user account on my laptop, so I'm confused as to why this would start happening all of the sudden.
I poked around in the control panel trying to find random options that would fix it, but nothing has. I'm running Windows 7.
    Thanks for any help!
