Adobe Air, Oracle Integration

Hi All, I've been looking all over the web and have been
unable to find a definitive answer on this one.
I have a client that needs to get some data directly from an
oracle server on which the air app will be running. I realize AIR
has it's own built in sqllite integration, but can AIR call an
oracle DB directly?

Except for database management utilities, this isn't a good
way for a client application to interact with a database. And since
AIR isn't targeted at server applications, I don't think ODBC
drivers are that useful. I can think of a lot of other features I'd
rather see added to AIR first.

Hi all,
I want to intergrate my help with adobe air app on mac(so that it should look like mac help). But i am not able to do so as we need to add entry in the file info.plist for doing it. Can anyone please guide me on this. I have downloaded several application but not able to find any application with help intergrated in it. Most of the sample apps don't have any help and the remaining apps send the link to their website for help.

You can leverage any existing IDE that you already use for Flash, Flex, or HTML/JavaScript development. Adobe AIR does not require a specific IDE; however, Adobe AIR is integrated into Adobe Creative Suite, Flash Professional, and Flash Builder (formerly known as Flex Builder).
We also provide a set of command line tools that allow developers to test and package AIR applications from the command line. These tools can be found in the Adobe AIR SDK.
Basically, you can use any tool that outputs SWF or HTML files.

Here's one.
The thunderbolt port doubles as a Mini DisplayPort.
Mind you, it's just an adapter. You will need an HDMI cable to span the distance from the computer to the TV.

Integrating Flurry in Adobe Air for Android

I am having a hard time integrating Flurry into an android application built with Adobe Air.
Setting: Flash Builder 4.6 (sdk 4.6) and Adobe Air 3.1
I have successfully created the bridge between Air and Java (e.g. I can open a native notification).
The flurry doc requires to call the method
FlurryAgent.onStartSession(this, "FLURRY_ID");
in the onStart() of an activity, where 'this' is an instance of the Activity class.
Following the tutorial on building ane I have seen that when you extend a FREEFunction and you override
the call method, the context has a "getActivity()", so I hav tried the following

But with no success.
I even tried to build an empty activity and pass it to onStartSession like this:

Did anybody face a similar problem here?
Any suggestion/idea?

Well Im a bit puzzled now. I just created a quick AIR app using AIR13 for Android and did a DEACTIVATE test on the NativeApplication.nativeApplication property and used a TextField to "trace" out the frame rate when the app deactivated. The frame rate stayed at 24FPS the entire time. I turned the screen off, let it turn off, went to the home screen, and switched to other apps while the test app was still running. In all cases, the frame rate never dropped to 4FPS as indicated in Adobe's documentation. So it is either something a bug or feature of AIR13+ or it is how Android KitKat handles applications in the background. Im using an unlocked/stock Moto X running Android 4.4.3. The app also appends the getTimer() call to the end so you can see that it does change. Here is a link to the quick app I created: Dropbox - deactivate.apk
I guess if you want to download that and test it out to see how it behaves on your device and let me know the results. What device and OS are you running?
Below is the original message I started to type before I decided to create a quick app to test with. It may or may not still be relevant based on your results from my app test.
If you are looking at just recording information, you could probably setup something on the Android/Java side that gets started when the app "sleeps" using the DEACTIVE event as a trigger to start the ANE side of things. Then when your app "wakes", you could use the ACTIVATE event to trigger a call to the ANE to pull all the data collected in the Java side back to AIR and stop the ANE data capture since the data capture would be back to being handled by AIR.

You can use java and servlets to talk to the database. If you
have your servlet setup, just have it output xml and your flex can
process the results:

Then you call something like this in Actionscript:

or access them directly in an object via

Hope that helps. It would take a lot of time to explain it
more in depth and there are certainly other ways to accomplish

Integrating Bazeds-spring from Flex Adobe air application?

Hi
I have seen that from Flex Adobe Air platform using the old integration model (without spring) with Blazeds we can successfully communicate from AIR to the server side.
I have got the project working fine with FLEX-SPRING-BLAZEDS on a simple flex application. However, I would like to know if the same can be done with the new way of defining channels in Server side with the Blazeds-Spring combination from AIR. If yes could you please direct me to the changes in configuration required in the flex side of the Air application.

AIR does not support running applications from a CD-ROM;
that's both a technical and a licensing limitation.

Hi, please forget my last message. I was changing so many things I finished using a wrong mobileprovision. That's why I couldn't install the app in the device.
On the other hand I have found the problem. Some changes in one of our ANE were not tested in iOS 5.0.1 devices and it made the app crash because it found a Adobe Air 3.5 bug. Adobe fixed it in AIR 3.6

Adobe AIR and Photoshop CS3 Integration

We have been using Extendscript for scripting to control

I downloaded as3corelib library from http://code.google.com/p/as3corelib/downloads/list, extracted the library.swf file from the available as3corelib.swc file, included it to the lib tab of my application, renamed it as EncryptionKeyGenerator.swf and i've done the following:

On running my application, it says Value not a constructor.
However, i downloaded a installer package, EncryptedDBHTML.air over the net and when i used the EncryptionKeyGenerator.swf file from this package in my application, it worked. Now, the available codin used this:

I tried using the above package name, however i end up with the same error.

Deployment of an Adobe AIR application in an enterprise environment

Dear Team members,
first of all my apologies for posting this thread in more than one forum (see Installations Issues) but the argument is very important to us and I don't know where discuss it.
I would like to post a question to you regarding deployment doubts that we are trying to address.
My company is working on the new version of our primary application previously built as a J2EE application with some reporting functions with Flex, and we want to use AIR in order to leverage its possibilities:
Seamless integration with existing application functionalities (implemented as standard JEE web application pages) thanks to the integrated HTML capabilities
Improved integration of the user interface with the desktop
Native processes to provide additional functionalities
Our application is targeted to pharmaceutical industry, subject to FDA regulations, and it affects more than 5000 users for each customer, so we have some specific requirements affecting the deployment and distribution of the software:
Allow to run multiple versions of the software on the same client machine (to support test and acceptance activities in addition to the production environment)
Minimize the effort of the initial setup on each client
Manage the version upgrades without manual activities on each client
Keep the test/acceptance and production environments strictly aligned to improve effectiveness of formal validation (ideally, an application once validated should be transported in production without any source code modification, recompilation or repackaging)
The current browser-based strategy is perfectly fit to these requirements, and in the shift towards a desktop-based strategy we need to continue satisfying them as much as possible. We evaluated the standard distribution strategy of Adobe AIR applications, and noticed several attention points in this scenario.
The first issue we encountered is the back-end services endpoint discovery problem. Simply hardcoding a server URL in the packaged application could be a viable solution for public internet-accessible applications, but we need to support multiple customers in their intranet, and each one typically requires multiple environments for the application (acceptance, production, etc.). Maintaining dozens of different packages of the AIR application to support all these customer environments clearly is not the solution. Neither we want to force thousands of different users to enter and maintain the correct server location in their local preferences.
So, we thought to use a badge hosted in the back-end application to run the local AIR application: using the underlying API, we could activate the application specifying also the network location of the back-end services. We could also rely on the badge to install the application (and the AIR runtime if necessary)… however, application packaged as native installers cannot be installed, upgraded, or launched by the badge API (and we need to package ours as native to use native processes).
We also noticed that multiple versions of an AIR application cannot be installed side-by-side in a client machine, and that the installation and upgrade of the application can be performed only when the local user has administrative rights on the machine (using standard or native packages), forcing us to rely on external software distribution systems in some customer scenarios (introducing additional complexities in the release cycle).
At this point, in our opinion the standard deployment strategies of Adobe AIR applications are unfit for enterprise environments. In the enterprise world, many of the applications have migrated to a completely browser-based solution, while others enhanced their client layer to comply with the requirements, for example installing only a thin portion of the client code and allowing to connect to multiple server versions/environments with it (e.g. the SAP GUI universal client). Without smarter deployment and distribution tools, AIR applications currently are a step back compared to web applications in terms of manageability.
So, we are trying to develop a solution to address these problems, with some concepts similar to JStart: install on the client machine a launcher application capable of being activated from a web page, dynamically locate, download and run the actual client bytecode, transparently enforce client software updates, and supporting multiple applications (and multiple versions of the same application). However, we are facing many technical problems due to internal architecture of AIR and we already spent a considerable amount of effort trying to find a solution. We are now thinking to return on the choice of AIR, going back to Flex.
What is the position of Adobe on this argument? Is Adobe aware of these issues and are there any plans on this topic? Any advice?

How to get Adobe Air-apps to run *properly*? (Voddler ecpecially)

First: I am running AMD64, and have installed the bin32-adob-air from AUR.
The problem is, this does not work as it should. Air apps are never "installed" like they would be in Windows, or Ubuntu with the adobe-air from adobe installed. This causes problems with remembering configs and storing data between instances. Wimp, t.ex. will never remember my password, now matter how many times I check the remember password-box. And When running VOddler it just won't find the config file.
I am trying to run Voddler in linux now, following this. But it won't work.
I just get an "error reading config file" message when starting it using the adobe-air command (ie. the script from the package. Thinking the problem might be caused by the script running air apps from a temp dir, i aslo tried to run
[gert@blad opt]$ /opt/adobe-air-sdk/bin/adl -nodebug /opt/airapps/VoddlerPlayer/META-INF/AIR/application.xml /opt/airapps/VoddlerPlayer
after unpacking the Voddler Files there, but no luck.
I see that there are a newer version of Voddler out now, and I will try that, but I'd appreciate any help with this spesific issue.
Also, I would like to know if there is any way to get the "full Air experience" where you jut click-and go, and can install Air-apps the simple, proper way "everybody else" does it. Cause Air right now is a major hassle. Is there any chance of getting the Adobe-Air installer from Adoe work on Arch, or at least get a similar result? Integrated in the system, detected in the browser on webpages etc.

It errors out after the Voddler window has been "Rerwinding the tape" for about 10 secs.
EDIT: I moved my voddler folder to /opt/airapps so I could use your file without any edits to rule out typos.
Now, the voddler player starts from firefox in wine. But I immediately also get the "Oops, we noticed you didn't watch the whole movie"-window pops out at the same time, and i get a similar error as above.

Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe AIR

I ran across this by being curious but I have installed on my system the Microsoft Silverlight Plugin and the Adobe AIR plugin...
I am curious as to when and/or how these two plugins can be integrated into the Safari browser...
I know for definite that Silverlight is not working and I am not for sure about Adobe AIR at this time.

Well the Silverlight plugin from what my understanding of what it is..
Is supposed to be something like flash. You can develop applications and stream them over the internet for various media types. If you go back to the Silverlight Website ( http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ ) the beginning animation that is on the page is running using Silverlight. Currently you cannot view it with Safari. It shows as though it is installed but shows nothing in the browser, so you will have to use one of the other browsers you have. I have seen it in use inside Gadgets for the Sidebar for Microsoft Windows, several examples on the website, and some websites are starting to use it and will enable the plugin if it is installed. Microsoft Expression Studio V1 now has the capability to develop with it as well.
Adobe AIR is pretty much the same thing, ( http://www.adobe.com/products/air/ ) Like Silverlight and Flash, it enables applications and streaming of files over the internet. A good example of it in use is the Finetune Desktop. ( http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us& extid=1282522 ) This is actually an application that uses AdobeAIR inside the program... It actually installs using AdobeAIR and runs seamlessly. I have been quite impressed by it. There are several examples of this on the main site itself.
Both are supposed to be cross platform and browser compatible, using new technologies to offer better resource usage, a higher quality of end-user experience, as well as many improved features for Businesses.
You will probably begin to see more and more websites using the two to build applications as the year passes. Probably even more widely used in 2009.
