Adobe FlashIslands: Datacommunication and performance

Hello everybody,
We're building a complete frontend in Flash Islands, and at the moment we're working with just data binding.
What I know at the moment:
- fireEvent to SAP backend and pass along parameter(s)
- [Bindable] vars in frontend, and binding them with context nodes in backend.
Now I'm wondering if there's a possibility to sent some sort of event with parameters from the backend to the Flex frontend?
And does anybody advice using binding when dealing with large amounts of data such as binding a large internal table? Or are BSP's and webservices (xml) more advised, or other options? (are there already any performance tests done perhaps?)

Hi Kim,
wouldn't it be lovely to have the ability to event to an island - unfortunately not at the moment - best you can do is set up a certain variable to change and use this to flag that an event has occurred.
As for the data transfer - I have set up processes so that once data has been transferred, the island sends back an event - I catch that event and clear down the context. Otherwise the entire context is resent on every update of the screen - which can mean LOTS of data being resent. I handle sending deltas only within my island component - so only updates are sent - and the island is written to understand and cope with deltas.
If you follow this approach then the islands can provide good performance - I pass org chart data of 1000's of records and the speed is quite quick - even when using poor networks. Indeed the ability to render client side using the island means that it is generally well received compared to conventional WDA where the network connection is poor.
Thomas a while back talked about some better delta handling coming in 7.02 but I think that wasn't for data... but I may have been confused. (I often am). Have a search of the forums for the thread - search on delta and island...

Animation I was working on that had been performing in browser fine suddenly stopped working, and was not related to any action I had done at that point. I am having a whole slew of odd interface problems with a fresh 2014.1.1 on a fresh macbook pro with latest Yosemite. Program locks up, cursor selections don't show, things disappear. I have a mac mini also and the program runs fine on it. Is there possibly something related to the solid state hard drive in new macs?

There is an issue with Adobe Audition CC and OS 10.8.4. Audition will not open?

Apparently there is a problem with Adobe Audition CC and 10.8.4. Audition worked in 10.7 with no problem but after installing 10.8.4 it no longer opens.

might want to ask, did you clone ML with 10.8.3 before upgrading to 10.8.4? sometimes there are issues, and there are with .4 so having a clone of your system prior to update is important. Same for how long to keep a clone of 10.7.5 or even 10.6.8.
if you practice keeping boot drive small it is easy to make a system restore image 50-150GB and keep it somewhere.
CCC clones not just the system but the recovery partition.
keeping all your data and media off the boot drive helps in other ways, like managing maintenance and performance.

Installation Media for Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash without Extra Software

Is there a Installation Media format for Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash which does not have McAfee, Google Chrome or Google Toolbar associated with the installation? This deployment is for a IT department. We do not want Google Chrome, Toolbar, or McAfee installed on our workstation, and we want to prevent our users from installing them when performing the upgrades to newer versions. We want installation media without the extra software for deployment. Does Adobe supply these?

Adobe Flash Player and Skype

Hello,
I have a 3GS Iphone.
I have to questions:
1. Can anyone tell me why it's not possible to download and use Adobe Flash Player to watch videos and play songs on My Space or other sites?
2. Why isn't it possible to make Skype calls when a only a 3G internet connection is available?

1) Safari for the iPhone does not have the ability to install and load third-party browser plugins - most likely for security and performance reasons - so unless this restriction is lifted, you won't see any internet plugins for the iPhone.
2) A version of Skype that will work over 3G is coming:

This is pretty surprising and wierd that even Reader 10.1.1 is crashing on your system. It works pefectly for me.
Would it be possible for you to get the crash dump, and upload it, so that I can have a look at the same.
Download PROCDUMP from <http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx> and extract it to a folder, say, c:\temp\procdump.exe
Open cmd prompt and type "cd c:\temp".
Launch the browser and open the PDF.
Open task manager, sort processed by name. Two AcroRd32.exe instances should have been launched. Note the PID (a small integer like 5588) corresponding to the AcroRd32.exe with the higher memory usage; this is the process that must be crashing. Note this PID.
On the cmd window, type "procdump -e -ma 5588 c:\temp\01.dmp" (replace 5588 with the actual PID of the process noted in Step 4). Procdump will now wait for the aoolication to crash. If it throws a EULA, accept it.
Perform your steps to cause the crash.
Procdump will have created a dump file at "c:\temp\01.dmp". Zip it up (since it will be 100s of MBs otherwise) and share with me.

Adobe Captivate 6 and Shortcut Keys

I have designed a course in Adobe Captivate 6 and want to include a Shortcut key such as CTRL+O which the user hits to perform an action like they do in a production system they are being trained on for their job (non Adobe related).
When I set up a slidelet and the associated Action via a Shortcut to jump to a slide further down in the presentation this works in preview fine, but when I upload it to the LMS and test it there, it performs an Open function instead because this is being run in an Internet Brower.
Does anyone know of anyway for the Captivate CTRL+O to supercede the Internet Explorer CTRL+O?
Please let me know either way.

Browser functions ALWAYS come before any functions of the content within the browser.
Trying to create course content that replicates keystroke shortcut behaviour of applications that use Function keys or Control keys is doomed to failure.
I would recommend you find another way to display the required keystrokes (e.g. buttons or images on screen) and get your users to click with their mouse to indicate the correct keys.

Stability and Performance Issue With Aperture 3

I'm running Aperture 3.0.3 on my iMac. This is a switch from Adobe products and I'm having a ton of stability and performance problems.
Environment:
* My library is about 32,000 images, about 1/3 of which are 21 megapixel, the remainder are 10 megapixels or smaller.
* I have no smart albums.
* All images are referenced and live on an external FW800-connected RAID5 array. The library lives on my internal drive.
* I have an Apple Cinema display connected through the mini-DVI port.
Here's what's happening. Initially, Aperture starts up fine and things are peachy. After a few adjustments -- particularly cloning or patching, rendering becomes slow. It becomes slow as in a minute or more. On a 21 megapixel file, this is an incredible productivity killer. Here is what I've tried to make Aperture go faster (not all at the same time):
- Log in holding the shift key to make sure nothing but core system stuff is running
- Rebuild Aperture library
- Defragment internal hard disk using iDefrag
- Export a subset of images to a separate library and work on them there
None of these has had the desired effect. Worse, if I switch to full-screen mode, the whole interface becomes balky and can become unresponsive to the point where the only way out is to cold reboot the computer. Cmd+TAB doesn't even work.
I can't imagine this is an experience shared by many users of the screaming would be deafening. Lightroom and Photoshop are insanely fast by comparison so it can be done -- and on this computer.
What are the best practices for speeding up Aperture?

Have you tried the Bergsma BAsh?
Many of us who have upgraded our library's over time have cleaned out caches using a technique discovered by Matthew Bergsma . It cleans out some obsolete files that significantly slow aperture 3 down.
Here's what you should do:
Quit aperture
Navigate to your aperture library.
Ctrl click library and select show package contents
Open the thumbnails folder and drag contents to trash.
Then delete the entire contents of the following cache folders:
Hard Drive/Library/Caches
Hard Drive/System/Library/Caches
Hard Drive/Users/Your username/Library/Caches
You may also like to delete the preferences file but that's up to you.
~/Preferences/Library/com.apple.aperture.plist
Open Aperture:
Rebuild Thumbnails click library - photos
Then select one photo and apple(command) A to select all.
Then go to the photo menu and choose generate thumbnails.
It'll take a while to go through them all but once it's all done Aperture 3 should zip along

Adobe Muse Forms and GoDaddy

Has anyone come up with a solution for the consistent problem between Adobe Muse forms and GoDaddy hosting? I just spent an hour with GoDaddy and they said everything on their end was working. It was a script problem. I can't seem to get any answers from either Adobe or GoDaddy.

From your description is seems clear the issue is not with the Muse generated scripts. Those are identical regardless of what e-mail address you're sending to. If sending to your personal e-mail address works, but sending to an address on the same domain as the site does not, that most likely indicates one of two things: 1) The e-mail address is not setup correctly. (I assume that's not the case and you can send to the address from other sources without issue?) 2) Or, something on the server is configured to block e-mail from being sent to addresses on the domain of the site. Some hosting providers do this by default.
I expect this case is the latter and you have yet to reach a tech at GoDaddy who's familiar with this aspect of their e-mail processing via PHP sendMail.
The lack of SQL is a non-issue. SQL is not required for the correct processing of your form. When available SQL is used to limit the number of form submissions that will be accepted from a single IP address (site visitor) in a short amount of time. This "throttling" is performed to limit submissions from spammer's robots. Your form will work fine regardless of whether SQL is available. If you do receive spam from your form, adding a CAPTCHA is more effective at reducing or completely eliminating spam. Another less cumbersome method for site visitor's is simply to add a required checkbox will a label of something like "I'm a human" since spammer's robots will frequently not figure out they need to check the checkbox in order to get the form to submit.
There's nothing Muse can do to avoid a restriction on the server that prevents specific e-mail addresses from being sent to, short of providing or connecting to a completely different e-mail processing service than what's provided with your hosting. We may provide that option at some point in the future (for other reasons), but that's not an option right now.
If GoDaddy's support continues to point at Muse when told that sending to e-mail addresses not on the site's domain works fine and sending to addresses on the site's domain does not, and also told there's absolutely no difference in the PHP code for the two cases, then send me an e-mail and we'll talk to GoDaddy together. Used Lenovo H530 for Adobe PP/AE and Sony Vegas Pro 13.0

I have a very limited budget, about $400. I have been limping along with a Quad Core Pentium, so just about anything is an upgrade. Has anybody used a Lenovo H530 for Adobe PP/AE and/or Sony Vegas Pro 13? There are a number of them for sale on eBay more times than not for about $400 +/-. I know I will need a good CUDA card to really see decent performance. But for now I would love a system that makes editing a lot less painful and can handle the graphic card upgrade at some point. Any AE users on the H530? Any recos for other used systems around the $400 point?

......you'd be better off looking for a used i7 gaming laptop which would have an NVidia GPU in it....you CAN find 17.3 inch screen models, ( 1920x1080) with decent external poets and 2 internal HDD bays. However, you would probably STILL need to upgrade memory and put in SSDs.
better to SAVE or BORROW more money to get an appropriate machine.

Adobe Illustrator CC and macbook pro retina

So I bought a new macbook pro with retina which has 8GB of memory, with OS X 10.9.4. I am also trialing the creative cloud having downloaded Adobe Illustrator CC and Photoshop.
Have only had the laptop for a couple of weeks and already I am having illustrator crashing within 15 or 20 minutes of building a graphic. It got worse today, and the graphics are not even complicated; 3 times crashed today. Does anyone else have this problem. Does anyone know if this is just a compatibility issue between adobe and the macbook? I was told by apple that as the laptop version had only just come out this might be the issue and adobe would have an update within a month or so. Anyone know if thats true??
By the way a friend of mine has been using adobe muse and that has also been crashing on his macbook pro, exactly same macbook pro as mine.

Quite a few people keep an older version in case there is something not right for them in the newer version.
Just make sure they are installed in that order.
Be prepared to have your file associations changed.
What is you OS by the way?

I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and it closes down every time I open it.

The first question is have you used this version on this computer with the operating system you have now. The issue might be (if you are on a Mac) that CS2 was a Power PC application and you have upgraded to a new computer with an Intel processor. CS2 will not work on an Intel processor with system (I think) OSX.6 or greater.
If you have used this release on this computer with the same OS, than try deleting the preferences by holding down the Comand/Control-Option-Shift keys when starting the application. You will get a message asking if you want to delete the preferences, say yes.
Let me know if any of these work.

Keywords in Adobe Bridge CC and Lightroom 5 not working

I recently upgraded to Adobe CC. We use Bridge and Lightroom regularly to tether while shooting, batch process and search for images. I have noticed that files I have keyworded in Bridge will randomly lose the keywords attributed with them. When we shoot tethered to lightroom we will keyword as we shoot but those keywords do not show up in Bridge. This is a huge issue for us. We have thousands of images and plan on using bridge as a tool for our designers and marketing team to search seamlessly for photos based on keywords. If they are randomly disappearing or not carrying through from Lightroom to Bridge it becomes completely unmanageable and completely out of our hands. And a completely useless tool. Any suggestions?

Keyword list in Adobe system, bridge and lightroom, need standardizing. That's what I feel.
