Adobe photoshop 11 freezes on startup

when I start up adobe photoshop 11, the screen freezes on "initializing model ...".  the only way I know to fix the freeze problem is to reboot my computer.
Later on, I may need to do this workaround again.  this workaround is very aggrevating.  what do I need to do to fix this?  I was under the impression I purchased a professional product that wouldn't freeze randomly.

I did as andromeda14 asked above with the adobe photoshop organizer.  It has been stuck on "initializing model..." for about 3 minutes now.  just so you know, I did not reboot this morning and my laptop has been on for about the last 12 hours without a reboot.
When the program works correctly after a reboot, the program completes "initiating model..." in one or two seconds.
I do not see how picture data or metadata that I enter into photoshop organizer can be causing this problem.  If my data were the problem, then why does a reboot correct the problem?  I think it is more likely the progam has not cleaned up after itself (hung task or data in registry) after being shut down  thus causing the program not to initiate properly after being started a second, third or fourth time.
Just so you know, the elements organizer app occasionally does start on the 2nd or subsequent time after a reboot.  I have not been able to figure out why this occurs.  I do know for sure that I will get 1 good start up after a reboot.  after that, subsequent start ups may or may not work.  I seems the longer I wait to start the second time, the more likely it will hang on "initiating model...".
Just so I know, are you an adobe tech support person or are you an expert user?

  • My Photoshop 7 freezes on startup--why?

When I try to open Photoshop 7, I get this message: "Updating Adobe Online components from Adobe.com
Downloading file 1 of 2. No personal information is being transmitted. File: AWEXFILES.TXT
    To: macintosh hd:Library:ap...ion support:adobe:web"
The computer freezes when the blue bar advances half-way. I can't escape, force quit, or do anything other than turn the machine off.
I've tried opening Photoshop without connecting to the net, and then I just get a blank.
I called Adobe about this twice. The first tech said that since Photoshop has an upgrade, previous versions no longer work.
I didn't believe that (for one thing, the new version has been out for a while now, and my v. 7 kept working just fine--until now). So I called back and got a different tech, who told me it was an Apple problem, not an Adobe problem--that my Photoshop v. 7 would keep working just as it had before if I upgrade to Panther.
I didn't really believe that, either, but I called Apple support anyway. The Apple tech told me neither of the Adobe techs' advice made any sense to him, and he referred me to this discussion group.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Jay

    Jay:
    That's really good news!
I'm sure glad that the Force Quit took and you were able to get to the preference! (I was wondering how we were going to get past that stumbling block if one of the methods I suggested wouldn't do it...)
I'm really kind of surprised that the Adobe tech didn't know about the issue. I visited the Adobe Forums and it's there in a couple of places, albeit somewhat obsure ones. Such is life...
Regarding preference files - they are generally located in two different folders on your startup drive. These files typically begin with "com." and have the extension ".plist" and are sometimes a cause of conflicts, hangs, etc., should they become corrupted. When you delete a preference file, it recreates itself the next time you launch the corresponding application. When it is recreated, it sets the application's preferences back to the original default settings, just as if it were launched for the first time after you initially installed it. You then can customize the settings as necessary or desrirable. These files are not limited to just application preferences, but cover a range of processes on the Mac.
You can find them by opening your "Home" folder, then opening your Library folder inside the Home folder, then opening the Preferences folder inside the Library folder. The files in this folder are called "user preferences". If you navigate there, you'll find the "com.adobe.photoshop.plist" file that WWJD referenced earlier. (Don't delete it now because your issue is resolved and you'd have to reset all of your Photoshop preferences.) I'd encourage you to take a look there, however, so you are familiar with the folder in case you need to access it in the future.
The other common location where preference files are stored is in the Preferences folder in the main Library folder that appears when you click on your hard drive icon. It's best not to mess with the preference files there, unless you really know what these files do, or one of the Members who does know recommends that you trash a specific file there. Again, I'd encourage you to take a look there so you're familiar with where it is.
I recommend that you boot to your install disc and run Repair Disk, using Disk Utility from the Installer's menubar. Forced/sudden shutdowns can sometimes cause drive directory damage, and you've had a number of forced shutdowns during your ordeal. It's good insurance to run Repair Disk whenever you have to shutdown with the power button, experience a power outage, trip over and pull out the power cord, etc. (I ran it a couple of times last night!)
Lastly, regarding Force Quit - it can sometimes be tricky getting it to actually force quit an application. If you run a force quit problem again, be persistent with it, trying repeatedly, or using one of the other methods I described (option key while clicking on the Dock's application icon or Activity Monitor). Power down only as a last resort. BTW - I apologize for not being clear when previously referencing the "Dock" icon.

  • Adobe Photoshop Scratch Disk Full/Startup Disk Full error - PLEASE HELP

    Dear ALL,
I have started to notice recently that when I run Photoshop CS on my Mac OSX Tiger, I am getting the Startup Disk Full error message. Never happended before.
Since my initial post I downloaded Macaroni (utility) and have run the daily/weekly/monthly backups, checked the /private/var/vm and /private/var/log and /Volumes. Nothing unusual there...
When I started getting this error I had 32GB left on a looked at my HD and I seem to have 32GB available on a 152GB drive. Now after deleting I have 76GB capacity left.
But when I tried to open a Photoshop PSD or TIFF file and do a crop I still get tge Startup Disk is Full error followed by the Adobe Photoshop error Scratch Disk is Full.
I am thinking of running the Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and doing a Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions followed by Repair Disk Permissions. I will be logged into the machine whilst doing this. Is there any danger in this as I have read elsewhere that I need to do this from a bootable volume. If that is the case how do I create a bootable disk/cd? If not then what is the cure to my Disk Full as surely there is now nearly 50% FREE!!!!!
    Please help.
    Max

PS will always use the boot disk for scratch to some extent even with an alternate primary scratch disk.
Be sure to turn off Spotlight as it causes problems.
4GB of RAM would be nice, I understand small files don't work well if there is more than 4GB RAM but large files will. OS X uses free RAM as cache and RAM disk before using disk drives.
How much RAM is allocated to PS? More RAM would help.
A dedicated lean boot drive helps. Install just what is needed for your work, use a separate drive for data, and yet another RAID volume for scratch.
When in doubt, backup with SuperDuper, and do an erase and then restore. Always backup before repairing; and never, ever, use an old version of Tiger CD/DVD - like 10.4.2 on 10.4.7/.8. Use "fsck" instead, or your emergency boot drive.
Also, give Applejack a shot and delete the cache folders and swap files from time to time to keep a system humming. CS/CS2 and Tiger benefit nicely from more RAM.

  • Adobe Photoshop 9 Freezes in Mac OSX

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 that constantly freezes on my iMac OSX 10.7.2 platform. It happens while performing different tasks, ie. downloading pictures, e-mailing pictures, editing pictures. In fact the program freezes and then has to be forced quit. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Okay, the first thing I would do is shut down the autoanalyzer. Go to the organizer preferences>media analysis and turn off everything but face recognition.
To repair permissions go to Applications>utilities>disk utility and click the name of your hard drive in the list on the left, then click repair permissions. It takes a while and don't freak about all the messages scrolling by in the window while it's working. They don't matter at all unless it tells you it's unable to complete the entire permissions repair.

Adobe photoshop and other CC applications (except media encoder) crash within 10 secs of launch. I do not get any information in "Event viewer" for the crash.

Without proper system information we can't know anything, but this simply sounds like an activation issue. Refer to this:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 Freezing on Eyedropper tool, please help!

Hello all! I would be so appreciative of any help I can get with this.
I am working on a some graphics that need to be completed very soon, and suddenly photoshop is freezing on the eyedropper tool. I've tried force quitting, which does not work, and then restarting multipe times, but this has not worked either. Every time I reopen my file (which is an 8.5 x 11, 350 ppi, grayscale image), and try to work with the paint bucket tool, the problem persists. I'm not able to click and change the tool, use any options under file/edit/view/etc, go to another layer, click out of the window/close photoshop. I am still able to zoom in and out with keyboard short cuts, but that is about it.
    I am working with CS5 on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 , 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon procesor.
Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide to help explain the problem.
    Thank you!

Have you tried resetting the eyedropper tool?
Click on dropdown box of tool in upper left hand corner.  Then click dropdown box arrow in right corner of the window.
If that does nothing reset the preferences.
Start photoshop and immdeiately hold down the option + command + shift keys.  (Windows Alt Ctrl Shift).
You should get a reset window.
It is a little tricky so if you see the splash screen you are too late.

  • Adobe Photoshop cs4 freezes at "Preparing to Install..." on Mac OS X 10.6

I am trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 for the first time (it's not an upgrade) from the trying versión of adobe.com on Mac OS X 10.6 (all the latest updates are installed). The Mac install is also pretty fresh, although I have installed a few things. The CS4 install starts and I get a "Preparing to Install..." message. But, that's it. It's stuck there indefinitely.
I have disable my antivirus software, tried to use AdobeSupportAdvisor (but it doesn't seem to be able to determine that an install has been attempted), and been working through everything on
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407428.html
to no avail. I get the same behavior no matter what I try.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

While I understand you may have valid reasons for using it, I still have to ask, why on earth are you running antivirus on OSX? I know there are a few people here who love trying to convince the rest of the world that there actually is such a thing as a Mac virus, and that the threat is very real that unprotected Macs could be vulnerable, but I've been using OS X since 10.0 (early in 2002) and I've never seen or been affected by a virus on any of seven Macs I've owned.
I've tested McAfee (Virex), Norton, and Trend Micro products for Mac only to find that they are either cumbersome and bothersome to the point that they ruin the user experience of a truly user friendly OS, or they interfered with things I was trying to do or needed to do with other software.
The end result is that I do not use antivirus of any kind on my Mac and to date I've yet to have a single problem because of that choice.
I'd wager a good guess that the root of your problems is some background process of your antivirus trying to san the installer or stop the installation altogether because the installer is newer than a virus database file, which most companies don't make a serious priority of updating for Mac since they know as well as most of us that there aren't any Mac viruses out there just waiting to destroy an OS that isn't Windows.

  • Adobe Illustrator cs5 freeze at startup

I´ve bought the adobe CS5 design premium upgrade package from macromedia studio 8.
all the programms work except Illustrator CS5, its constantly crashing while loading one of the .aip files, not a specific one but a random one for example shapetools.aip or extensionfontmanagement.aip and so on. then i´ll have to kill the process via task manager.
Illustrator was the only programm of the whole package of which i had already a demo version installed befor i bought the design premium one.
i´ve deinstalled the demoversion and cleaned the regedit befor i ran thru the full version installation process. deinstalling and reinstalling doesn´t help either.
besides that i´ve noticed that i can only install the following Photoshop versions: "Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)" and/or "Adobe Photoshop CS5", even though on the design premium package is "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended" listed. does "Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)" equal the Extended version or did i simply get scammed?
    system specs:
    win 7 64 bit
    i7 860
    nvidia gtx 570
    8 GB ram

yes, but is the 64 bit version the "Extended" version? i´ve read that photoshop extended supplies a few features which are not included in the normal version.
I´ve tried the uninstalling process via several ways, once with the windows control pannel, once with the software Ccleaner, once i rolled my system back to a earlier status.
    *edit*
i do speak german, unfortunately there are no instructions provided for windows 7 useres and the old path informations are apparently obsolete.
i´d realy like to know where to find the AIPrefs folder, i can´t find it with the windows search.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC Crashing On Startup

I just downloaded Photoshop CC today, and every time I try to open it, it loads, loads, 2 seconds after it opens up, it crashes. Now, I did find a way to bypass this, I don't know what key combination I did but it said open file, and as I uploaded a file, it said do you want to save your work before Photoshop exits. But what's strange is that a window pops up after the crash and says License Or Continue with trial. It happens after every crash. I looked EVERYWHERE (believe me, everywhere) on the internet and I tried these methods without success:
Pressing Ctrl, Shift, Alt key on startup
    Relogging into Adobe cloud
    Updating Graphics card driver
Deleting preferences file manually, but strangely, there is no preference file, there isn't even a "Photoshop" folder
Reinstalled Adobe cloud and Photoshop like 12 times (and used the adobe install cleaner tool
    Renaming the cache file
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw this fix in another thread. Needless to say it worked. THANK YOU.
I think I have a possible fix for you. All of my CC 2014 applications were crashing, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc. I update graphics drivers, emptied the SLCache folder, everything that was mentioned in this thread I did, including uninstalling all CC apps, running the CC Cleaner tool and re-installing Photoshop CC 2014. I was still crashing after the splash screen.
What got it to work for me was allowing full control to the SLCache folder. Here is what I was told to do.
    1. Navigate to "Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache"
    2. Delete all of the contents of this folder, including hidden files.
    3. Go up one level to "Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe"
    4. Right click on the SLCache folder, go to properties.
    5. On the General tab, make sure "Read Only" in not checked.
    6. Under the Security tab, click "Edit..."
    7. Highlight "Users" in the Group or user names box.
    8. Make sure the "Full Control" permission is Allowed (checked).
    9. Do the same for "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" selections as well. (I went ahead and made sure every group/user in that list was allowed full control.)
    10. Click Apply, Ok for the two dialog boxes.
    11. Open your program and see the issue is resolved.
That got at least Photoshop CC 2014 working. I am currently downloading Illustrator to see if that will work as well. I will report back if not. Thanks to Manoj Kumar for the help through Adobe Chat help.

  • Photoshop CC freezes on startup and has to be force quit, started as a occasional issue not happens every time.

The mac is running os 10.9.5 its a 2007 2Ghz intel core 2 due with 4GB of ram.
The issues would happen 2-3 times but after force quitting and starting it back up it would eventually work as per normal. now it does it every time without fail. I have tried removing the app and re installing it.

  • Photoshop suddenly freezing on startup - won't open

    Hi There,
All of a sudden, photoshop won't open - have tried:
    - Removing all Photoshop user and system prefs
    - Uninstalling from creative cloud and reinstalling
    - Logging in as a new user
Logging in as a new user works so it's obviously something to do with the main user - how do we go about trouble shooting this issue and getting Photoshop to work with the main user?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben
NOTE: If you have control over this forum system:
Searching for a community doesn't work very well. It finds Photoshop Japan (when searching for Photoshop) or Creative Cloud so have posted this in CC. This system seems to be similar to Apple's forum system as the community search on their site is equally frustrating. Also, if I've already browsed to the Photoshop community before posting, why doesn't it just post into that community instead of making me search for (and not find) the community I'm already in?

    Hi Gerrit,
    Thanks. We're aware of this.
Photoshop CS6 doesn't really require the Java VM (we've removed this dependency in CS6) - OS X just has a special bit that thows that alert if Photoshop is being installed. We're working with Apple to correct this prior to official launch.

  • NVidia video card- Lightroom freezes at startup, stalls, crashes when switching modules [Windows]

Issue: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom freezes when you start, crashes when you switch between modules, displays blank screens in Slideshows, stalls frequently or runs extremely slowly.
Solution: The nVIDIA nView Multi-Display Technology software (also known as nView Desktop Manager) is known to cause these symptoms. If you have this software installed, please see following  Technote for resolution of problem.

Okay, I ended up replacing nouveau with the nvidia proprietary drivers.  I did a full update of my system, which I hadn't been able to do in over a month because of catalyst's conflict with xorg, and managed to get X working (sort of).  The only issue is that once X starts, and brings me to slim, the keyboard ceases to respond.  If I turn the numlock on before X starts, it turns off as soon as X starts.  Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't do anything either.  Not really sure where to go from here other than to switch to vesa or something
EDIT: I tried installing the beta driver as well, but nothing changed.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 freezes on startup

    Hi,
I am having issues with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, When I first load the software, it asks me if I want to use the "Organize" or the "Edit". When I choose "Edit", it loads the program, but I am unable to click on any options or toolbars as it freezes for around 3 minutes (says not responding) until it eventually kicks in and loads, I am then able to use the software perfectly.
On startup, is it trying to run updates or talk to Adobe for any reason, and can I turn this off?
Also, has anyone had the same problem? Help would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ian

OK let’s deal with the Editor. The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst double clicking on the desktop icon for PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.
