Adobe Photoshop Scratch Disk Full/Startup Disk Full error - PLEASE HELP
Dear ALL,
I have started to notice recently that when I run Photoshop CS on my Mac OSX Tiger, I am getting the Startup Disk Full error message. Never happended before.
Since my initial post I downloaded Macaroni (utility) and have run the daily/weekly/monthly backups, checked the /private/var/vm and /private/var/log and /Volumes. Nothing unusual there...
When I started getting this error I had 32GB left on a looked at my HD and I seem to have 32GB available on a 152GB drive. Now after deleting I have 76GB capacity left.
But when I tried to open a Photoshop PSD or TIFF file and do a crop I still get tge Startup Disk is Full error followed by the Adobe Photoshop error Scratch Disk is Full.
I am thinking of running the Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and doing a Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions followed by Repair Disk Permissions. I will be logged into the machine whilst doing this. Is there any danger in this as I have read elsewhere that I need to do this from a bootable volume. If that is the case how do I create a bootable disk/cd? If not then what is the cure to my Disk Full as surely there is now nearly 50% FREE!!!!!

PS will always use the boot disk for scratch to some extent even with an alternate primary scratch disk.
Be sure to turn off Spotlight as it causes problems.
4GB of RAM would be nice, I understand small files don't work well if there is more than 4GB RAM but large files will. OS X uses free RAM as cache and RAM disk before using disk drives.
How much RAM is allocated to PS? More RAM would help.
A dedicated lean boot drive helps. Install just what is needed for your work, use a separate drive for data, and yet another RAID volume for scratch.
When in doubt, backup with SuperDuper, and do an erase and then restore. Always backup before repairing; and never, ever, use an old version of Tiger CD/DVD - like 10.4.2 on 10.4.7/.8. Use "fsck" instead, or your emergency boot drive.
Also, give Applejack a shot and delete the cache folders and swap files from time to time to keep a system humming. CS/CS2 and Tiger benefit nicely from more RAM.

I have no clue as to how to correctly fix this issue. I looked at my HD and I seem to have 32GB available, which I would have thought would have been ample space. I have started to remove unwanted files and backup to CD large image files. So this should free up some more space. The question is will this be enough to get rid of this issue and is it associated with the amount of HD space on my drive? or would I need to run some script etc? or download/buy some other product to fix this?

MaxOK I tried Macaroni...and when I tried to work with a TIFF file I get the same Startup Disk is FULL message. The I get an adobe message saying Scratch Disk is FULL.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated. -

When working with multiple external harddrives it is often a mess when I forget to set scratchdisk (for rendering) to the same hd as the project.
Is it possible to be asked where to store renderfiles when opening a new project?What is really the issue here is developing proper operational habits. I work in a mult-seat editing facility where projects are stored on an XSAN. We've had to establish a discipline with our editors that has created a habit of setting scratch disks every time a project is opened. A simple solution would be posting a note on your monitor that reads something simple like "set scratch disks?", or "have you checked your scratch disks?".

If after doing what Michael suggested you are still not able to repair your disk, you may need a more powerful such as DiskWarrior to repair it I have found that when the the disk has problems that the tools within OS X are unable to repair then DW usual does it.
If DW is not able to do it for you about the only other alternative is to reformat and start over again.
You should have a good backup before doing either of these solutions to protect yourself.

Disk Utility Error-Please Help
I tried to repair my hard disk. I couldn't repair straight away as the repair button was greyed out so I varified the HD. The message came up:

SimonYou can only Repair Disk from a different boot volume so boot from your Tiger installer disk, select your language and then from the menu>Utilities>Disk Utility. select your hard drive and then Repair Disk. If Disk Utility can't repair it you will need a stronger utility like DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.

Photoshop Scratch Disk Error OSX 10.7.5
I had a Mac with CS5.5 installed. Suddenly i got an Error Message on Startup: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is unavailable...."
Unable to solve the Problem I Updated to CS6.0 in hope of fixing the Problem that way. It did not.
So i deleted the User and created a new one which worked, for a while at least. Now i have the same Error again!

In this Thread FocusCreative22 found the answer to that Problem. He suggested checking "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" in the Volume Info.
My Problem now is that either through having a newer OS version or only having the Startupdrive i dont have the checkbox "Ignore Ownership on this Volume". How to fix this Problem then?Chris,

So I went to the partition, pulled up the Get Info box and saw that the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" box was not checked. I checked it to see what would happen, and although the option to repair permissions is still greyed out in disk utility, now Photoshop starts up perfectly, even with the problematic scratch partition set as the primary Photoshop Scratch Disk.
Is this the wrong way to get to the right answer?

Photoshop Scratch Disk Error OSX Lion 10.7.3
I have had Photoshop CS5 installed on my system for over a year, and it worked fine all this time under Snow Leopard. Now that I've upgraded to Lion, Photoshop will not open due to these messages:
Could not open a scratch file because the disk is unavailable.
Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is unavailable.
The scratch disk in question is an 80gb partition of a 1tb internal hard drive. If I delete the preferences file (by holding down cmd-shift-opt when starting PS) then it starts up just fine. If I go into preferences and reset it to use the scratch disk, then next time I try to reopen the program I get the same 2 error messages and I have to ditch the preferences again.
There is nothing wrong with the disks, I verified them. And anyway, I've been using that scratch disk with Photoshop for the last year with no issues. It was only after I switched to Lion that this started happening.
I need to be able to take advantage of the performance increase that a scratch disk offers. Anybody have any ideas on what's happening or how to solve this?Chris,

Hi! I had purchased Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 Full - English - Multiple Platforms - Download. Had received a serial number to activate my license. I am nott able to update this to the latest version. Tried entering the license key which I had received for LR5. does not work with LR6
Your serial number is for version 5 and not for Lightroom 6. If will install LR 6 you have to buy a update and the you get a new serial number.

I have photoshop CS2 on my desktop computer (XP). The hard drive is partitioned and I have photoshop scratch disk on its own partition (10GB).
I have photoshop CS3 on my laptop (Vista Premium, 2GB ram). There is only one hard drive in the laptop. It is already partitioned into three - C drive: windows + programs, S drive: system files, X drive: recovery.
My question is do I keep my scratch drive on the C drive or can/should I partition an external hard drive (250GB) and put my photoshop scratch disk on there? The external drive is via USB.

Update on my external scratch drive.
When I bought the drive I ran all the way home with my new toy and quickly plugged it in to the notebook. Vista recognised it and I immediately transferred over 150GB of backup copies of my pics that I had burned to DVD's....I then read the instructions.
The drive was formatted as FAT32 and of course Vista is NTFS.
I promised myself that I would reformat it someday.
Today I burned my stuff to DVD's and formatted the drive as NTFS. I then partitioned it as a 200+GB (D)drive and a 34GB (F)scratch drive.
I ran DiskTT to see if there were any difference in the speed compared to what I wrote in message #17.
Here is the result.
Internal drive (C):
sequential write: 3036MB in 124.35sec = 24.4MB per second
sequential read: 3036MB in 95.57sec = 31.8MB per second
random access: 3036MB in 0.95sec = 3189.1MB per second
External drive (F):
sequential write: 3036MB in 173.49sec = 17.5MB per second
sequential read: 3036MB in 134.40sec = 22.6MB per second
random access: 3036MB in 0.97sec = 3136.4MB per second
bear in mind that the packet it wrote/read (3036MB) is less than the previous test (3563MB/3663MB)

Hi,
I have the following set up:
* Lenovo T-61p
* Windows XP Pro, SP 3
* HP Photosmart 8250 printer (with nothing plugged into the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer)
I am getting the following error:
Windows - No Disk
Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x75CE023C
0x84C40C84 0x75CE023C
I have done a lof experimenting and thru process of elimination, and believe I have determined that this only happens when the HP Photosmart 8250 printer is plugged in to the USB slot of the computer.
I can stop it from happening by safely removing hardware, and removing the drive that the 8250 creates on your computer when you plug it in. In my case, this is drive E. I'm guessing if there was something in the the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer, that's what those would be, but I don't those use those functions of the printer.
I understand there is more at work than simply the printer, because I did not used to get this error, so some software changed as well, that is scanning all ports, and finding a drive that has no disk, and producing the error.
A simple google search finds a lot people all over the world having this problem, and are solving it in different ways, because the suspected source is different: Norton, HP, etc.
I have tried everything I have read, and the only thing that works was my own idea, of manually safely removing the drive the printer creates each time I plug in the printer.
Anyone every any better, more permanent solutions? Or know what the real root of the problem is? What is scanning all the drives and being showing an error message because it found an empty drive?
Thanks and Happy Holidays/New Year!I've been getting the same error on my 4G nano for the past week. I've had my nano for about a month and the first few weeks were fine. Tried it on 2 different computers (Vista and XP) and same problem. Tried it on a 3rd (XP) and it started ok. Problem started coming back after a day.
I was able to find a quick fix though. I noticed that sometimes the message says something like "iexplore.exe... no disk..." even if I don't even use IE. What I do is end iexplore.exe on task manager before running iTunes and syncing my nano. I don't get the error whenever I do this, but one drawback is that the contents of my nano suddenly pops up in a window - even when disk use is not enabled.
I've reset/restored my nano dozens and dozens of times to make sure it's clean. Leads me to believe it's a driver issue. Either that or I have a friggin malware problem I can't seem to find.
I'll be posting updates every now and then. I'm no expert so I'm hoping an Apple expert also steps in to give some input. -
