Adobe Reader Digital Signature Plugin

Hello All,
We had developed a adobe plugin for digital signature through smart card. The plugin works fine for Adobe Professional. I would like to know the procedure how to make it work for Adobe Reader. I found a URL http://www.adobe.com/devnet/reader/ikla.html which says to buy a license. I'm confused over DRM and non-DRM agreement.
To make it clear, our company shall be distributing the smart card and the plugin in the enterprise market for digital signatures that need to work with both Adobe Professional and Adobe Reader. Our customers shall be probably using Adobe reader.
Can any one let me know the procedure to make reader plugin?
Regards,
Madhukar

Hi Gatis,

Once you get the file open look at section 5.3.4.4
The folder path has to exist, but Acrobat will create the file if it's missing. For example, if you want to save the file to C:\LogFile\digSigLog.txt the folder LogFile would have to exist on the C drive, but the log file itself will get created if it's not there already.
When you type in the file path and name in the Edit Binary Value dialog in regedit, make sure you null terminate the string by typing a zero at the end of the hex data on the left side of the dialog. It will look like a dot on the right side, but it's not really a dot (a dot is 2E in hex).

  • Adobe Acrobat - Digital Signatures Security

    Hi,
The business I am working for is making a push for online fill in forms for simplicity and less paperwork. At the moment they are using word docs with fill in sections that are terrible to deal with and still require you to print them out to sign it.
I have developed a PDF fill in form using Adobe LiveCycle that uses digital signatures. My only worry is how the digital signatures are created. It seems it is fairly easy to create a digital signature for someone else and use it without it being authenticated.
I have done some reading around and it seems to suggest that you are able to intergrate windows user accounts with adobe security somehow, but I am unable to find how to do this. I also don't have access to any of the windows security certificates so I will need to pass on information to the external IT company that manages it for them to do.
So, more specific question: How do I intergrate Adobe Acrobat signatures/security with windows user accounts so that only a specific list of users are able to sign forms.
Or if there is a better way of doing this let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You don't need to do anything. If the user has loaded their digital ID into the Windows Certificate Store (or the Mac Keychain) then Acrobat (and when I say Acrobat I mean both Acrobat & Reader) will pick up the digital ID and make it available at signing time in the Sign Document dialog, "Sign as" drop-down menu.

  • I am unable to sign Adobe Reader 9 signature fields.

    Hi,
I received a PDF  that I need to sign digitally. However, when I try to sign the signature field, nothing happens. Specifically, when I click the field with my mouse, nothing happens.
    In more detail:
    1. I move my mouse over the field, and a dialog box appears saying "Unsigned signature field (Click to sign)".
    2. I click the field, but nothing happens.
    3. When I go to Document --> Sign --> and I view the options, all the options (such as "Sign Document" or "Apply Ink Signature") are grayed out. I have included an image to illustrate what I am saying.
It should be noted that I initially tried to do this with Adobe Reader 11. After that didn't work, I re-installed Adobe Reader 11 and tried again, but it still didn't work. Then I switched to Adobe Reader 9, and it doesn't work. Any thoughts on what's going on here?

In my quest to find out what's wrong, I also discovered that when I try to save any changes, a box appears saying: "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form." Might the two issues be related?

  • Adobe reader x: signature digest algorithm

    Hi,
I have created a pdf with Adobe Acrobat, with the signing attribute on and it has an empty signature field.
If I sign this document using a brand new self-signed windows digital ID Adobe Reader uses as signing algorithm SHA256, if I use (via PKCS11) a certificate contanied in a smartcard, the hash algorithm used is SHA1... for the italian signature law the hash signing alg must be SHA256.
My settings in Edit - Preferences - Security - Advanced Preferences - Creation is:
Default signature Signing Format: CAdES Equivalent
(but it acts the same with PKCS#7 Detached)
Is there a way to always use SHA256 in signing?

Could you please try turning off reader X protected mode and check if you continue to see the problem? You could turn off protected mode using following steps:
    1. Launch Reader X and select Edit->Preferences...
    2. Select General from left navigation
    3. Under application startup uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Note: You should switch "ON" protected mode after verifying the problem. Purpose of Reader X Protected Mode is to keep your system safe from PDF based exploits and keeping protected mode OFF will leave your system vulnerable.

  • Adobe Reader XI Signature and touch monitor issue

Hi. I am trying to utilize signature feature on this new Adobe Reader XI. When I first tried this at a local Microsoft Store, it worked beautifully and I immediately downloaded the software on my computer (Windows 7; touch screen computer).  Upon installing them, however, I cannot get my finger to sign just as I was able to do before at the Store.  It just won't let me sign on the box (but I was able to do it using a mouse). I thought it is perhaps a Windows issue and I tried it with my friend's Windows 8 computer.  However, same problem occurs.  What would be a possible solution to this issue?  Thank you very much!!!!

  • Adobe reader & pdf browser plugin 2 license

i've got a macbookpro, & my class lectures are presented in pdf format.  every time i go to open 1, i get a popup that i need to order a pdf browser plugin 2 license.  it let me access my pdfs last semester by requesting register later, but this semester it's not letting me read them.  nothing i've found for adobe reader shows that i need this.  how do i get rid of this popup so that i can read my lecture notes?

You must have used some file that was created with that program.  It is completely unnecessary for Safari or Firefox.  If you have installed Adobe Reader, it should have put a plug-in into your Internet plug-ins.  Find a pdf file in Finder, then select it, then right click, get info.  In the window, make sure that the pdf file opens with Adobe Reader, then click on Change All.  It tells the Mac to handle all pdf files with Adobe Reader, and IF you have the plug-in, you should be able to read it.

You use this method to extract signatures from a PDF document. You must first call EXECUTE. You then use the method GET_SIGNATURES to get the signatures.
see the program FP_PDF_TEST_12 for sample usage.

  • Adobe Form Digital Signature using WDA

    Hi,
I have implemented Interactive Adobe Form using WDA, with one Signature Field.
I need to set and verify the status of the Digital Signature.
    1) Is it possible to sign the Adobe form without the user selecting the Digital Id, basically what is needed to implement automatic signatures (setting and verifying)?
    2) Once the data is filled online, the form is to be distributed or downloaded. How to apply security parameters to Form in this case (like pass protected etc). From SAP documentation, I understand we need to use Adobe Policy Server. Can we install this server on the Java stack of SAP WAS. Are there any other alternatives to implement such features?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chitrali Shah

I realize there is quite a bit of crossover between the two topics, but becuase you want to know about digital signature and specifically offline security; this question would probably be better asked in the Adobe Interactive Forms forum:
    SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe
However I'm not going to lock the thread, as the WDA forum you will find many Forms experts as well and might find a solution.  I just think you might have better luck in the other forum. This is perhas a rare case where double posting would be appropriate as long as you go back and update both threads with any solutions.
It sounds like you may have already found it, but about all I can offer on the subject is the link to the latest version of the online help on the subject:

  • Adobe Reader 8.1 plugin error

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader 8.1 and have even run the patch for 8.1.2 and yet ever time I try to either open Adobe reader or a pdf file, I get an error message saying "Invalid plugin detected, Adobe reader needs to close" and I am unable to read any files at all.
I have Windows Vista and have recently installed Vista Service Pack 1, but the problem occurred both before and after Vista Service Pack 1 was installed. I've searched the forums and knowledgebase and have tried all the possible solutions that have been offered, but so-far nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do in order to resolve the problem? At this point Adobe Reader is completely unusable.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Where is documentation about Adobe Reader web-browser plugin API?

When Adobe Reader is chosen as plugin to open PDF's inside a web-browser it reacts to some javascript commands in the web page that hosts the <object> tag like "goToPage" or similar. I would like to know which other javascript commands (and events: something like "onPageChanged", for example) are available. Where can I find documentation?
    Thanks

Microsoft hasn't updated its Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox for a while, so 3-year-old documentation may be current. I recommend using MSDN as a resource, and particularly articles indicating which features work in Firefox.
You also can work out development issues on a forum more focused on that, the unofficial [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=25 mozillaZine Web Development board]. It's a separate site (with separate registration).

  • Adobe Reader X (10) plugin issue

    Hi,
My plugin is working fine in Adobe Reader 9 but all problem occurs for the newer version.
    (1) I don't see my plugin on the toolbar like Adobe Reader 9, is this way Adobe Reader X made or any solution? Currently it is showing as side-panel.
    (2) My plugin doesn't work if protected mode is ON. If I switch-off it's working fine but it doesn't show my plugin completely. It has scraped almost half and there is no way to drag it.
    (3) Is there any separate certificate required to run my plugin with security mode ON? we already have Adobe Reader certificate which works fine with Adobe Reader 9.
Please help me out or the reference/pointers if any?

    1) - yes, this is how it works now. Nothing can write to the application toolbars.
    2) - yes, plugins have often to be re-written to allow for Protected Mode. It depends on what it's trying to do.
    3) - no, but you have to code allowing for the zero-elevation process model.
As you seem to have a Reader integration key, you should address SDK support questions to the contacts given to you when you registered for it.
