  • Why can't I down load adobe reader program?

I can not down load the adobe reader program? Why???????

You could try using a different browser, and see if you still are unable to download.
When you go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and try to download, do you see an error?
Could you share some details about the errors you see, and some details about your computer and browser.

  • Adobe Reader program uses huge memory in OS X. How to reduce it or any settings to change?

Lately I started to do alot of research on paper works for University projects. Most of the downloaded papers are based on .pdf extension. As usual, I read these files via Safari or open it separetly via Adobe Reader itself.
While working on Papers, I noticed that my machine's memory spiked to 7 GB ++ almost reaches 8GB of memory usage. This is unusual. At one point, I ran Java programs and simulatenous opened up many pdf format files format on my safari browser, it went unresponsive and unable to use keyboard & trackpad. Had no choice, had to hard reboot.
Contacted Apple support and reported the issue on unresponsive to them. They provided following KB to troubleshoot further:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
After that, I never encounter unresponsive issue but I have question Adobe reader program. This program uses huge amount of memory and I would like to know if there is anyway I can reduce the usage of memory of Adobe reader. Or is this normal?
Also, had an issue with pdf page scrolling, it is very slow.
    Thank you,
    Soma

Add on .. In Adobe Reader go to View > Page Display > select Enable page scrolling. This helps to improve adobe reader slowness. But, just a workaround. Not a solution.
Also, untick "use page cache" under preferences.

  • Unable to open files associated with Adobe Reader - program goes into a loop

i am unable to open any file associated with adobe reader or adobe pro.  when i double-click the file, adobe reader opens up but it goes into a loop.
adobe reader opens, then a progress window opens, as if the file will open but adobe closes and opens again and the same cycle repeats itself until i manually close the program.
    any advice?
    update:
i can open regular .PDF files when i double-click the icon and i can also open .PDF files when i open adobe reader first and then choose open file.  it's just the .FDF files that are the problem (so far).
the file in question happens to be an .FDF extension, which is an internet generated form. i attached a screen shot of the screen that pops up, goes away, and pops up again that creates the loop.
the white out section is the server name where the file was saved to.  but i also get the same symptoms when i am in internet explorer, hit the generate form button.

    hey ankit,
sorry i didn't see a notification that you replied to this discussion.
"1. Generate a new PDF and a FDF file. Try opening the same and see if it behaves the same way."
yes, it does behave the same way, it's just a continuous loop until i have to kill the process.
"2. Check if you have access to the PDF that is being used by the particular FDF."
by this do you mean the correct permissions?  if that is what you mean, then yes, the permissions are set correctly.
"3. If possible, please send me the FDF and the associated PDF that is behaving in this way on your system."
i really wish i could but the information in the form is sensitive and cannot be sent.
as an update though, i reimaged the customer's workstation, installed Adobe Reader 10.1.1 and it worked perfectly (finally).  HOWEVER, after about two weeks the same symptoms returned!

  • Downloading adobe reader programs.

I received the message that I had to install Adobe 11 in order to open my programs.  I tried, and was told "installation complete", but it is not installed.  I now have no Adobe programs. I've tried several times to figure this out, but no luck.  Can you tell me what I must do?  Thank you. I have Windows 7 Home .

You mention "adobe reader" in the subject line, then "Adobe 11" in the text.
The latest Adobe Reader version is 10.1.3.
Do you mean Adobe Flash Player?  The latest Flash Player version is 11.2.202.235.
Or do you mean Adobe Shockwave Player?  The latest Shockwave Player version is 11.6.5.635.
What do you need that Adobe program for?

  • My Adobe Reader program was corrupted.

I tried to delete the program so that I could reinstall and I wasn't able to do so.  I tried to download the program and I can't as there is already a program downloaded.  I did download Nitro Reader 3 and it works -- but I want to use Adobe! Also now, my printer doesn't work but I want to repair this problem before I check into the printer problem in case the Adobe is the problem.  Please advise what I can do at this point!

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • I am trying to download an adobe reader with multiple language.

I am trying to download an adobe reader program with multiple language capabilities, but it says I am missing a patch that is needed to upgrade to the program.  Does anyone know what this means and how to solve this problem?
    Thank you

I have a version of reader installed, and I installed another just in case that was the problem, but I got the same msg.  It did come at the install, not the download.  I tried to download in Firefox, and I tried to download internet explorer.  I am really not sure what I should do.  Do you have any more thoughts on this issue?  Thank you for taking the time to help.

  • Downloaded a program and now all of my programs are in adobe reader and I cannot open them because they are not supported for Adobe reader

When I downloaded a program, it wouldn't open, so I tried to convert it to Adobe reader, now my main browser, Firefox is in the Adobe reader program with others and i can't close Adobe reader, and I can't open any of the other files because they cannot run in Adobe.

  • "Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it either...

The full error message reads: "Abobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
I understand this is a common problem, but I have yet to see a clearly defined answer. I am running the latest update of Abobe Reader 9.3 on Windows 7. It didn't work on other updates either.
I received the file as an e-mail attachment, along with some other PDFs. All of them can be opened except this one. I tried forwarding the e-mail to other servers (i.e. Hotmail) and I couldn't open it there either.
I have tried opening it directly from the Adobe Reader program, latest version of IE, and latest version of Firefox. I have tried unchecking the "Display PDF in Browser" box under Edit > Preferences. I have tried changing the file name and adding ".pdf" to the end of it. Nothing works.
The file says "27 KB" which sounds a little low to me since this should be a fair-sized document, but doesn't read "0 KB" as others with this problem have noted.
Any help with this issue so this question can finally be resolved for the hundreds of people that have had this error message would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
There has been tons of help on this issue.
The official word is, ZIP the PDF's before emailing or post them to a website and email a link to them. Some email clients use encoding (Adobe can't do anything about that part) and when the file is decoded at the other end, it is corrupted. It can happen to some of them or all of them.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.1 does not remember Duplex setting

    Restarting the old thread.
Some techinical issues have rendered the earlier post read only.
    Johnapp - 12:03pm Oct 9, 2007 Pacific
I am printing with CUPS under Ubuntu Feisty and I have defined a HP Laserjet-4Si-4Si-MX-600-dpi printer/driver and set the default duplex setting within the CUPS system to long edge binding.
However, every time I start Adobe Reader 8.1.1, the properties window for that printer shows Duplex Printing: Off. If I change it in that dialog, it is remembered as long as the program stays open, but after closing and starting fresh, this is again set to off.
Since I nearly always want to duplex-print this is extremely annoying.
Is there a way to set the default within the Adobe Reader program? Is there some way to pass settings to the program or to force a setting for this through a configuration file?
The documentation of these issues is extremely lacking, not to say entirely missing, it seems.

    hi johnapp,
We are not able to reproduce the problem at our end.
Can you please try out the following things at your end. It will help us in isolating the issue.
Is the above behaviour also happening with properies other than "Duplex"?
What happens if you press the "Defaults" button on the properties dialog? Does the "Long Edge Binding" option comes up on hitting the "Defaults" button?
    Regards,
    Rishi
    Johnapp - 5:22am Oct 10, 07 PST (#2 of 3)
Yes, all the properties in the properties dialog are affected: page size, input bin, output bin, duplex printing. After restarting the program the same happens as pressing the "Defaults" button, setting all these values to specific values, of which the duplex setting is "off" and unwanted and different from what I defined in the printer configuration dialog of the OS.
    Neha Seth - 4:00am Oct 11, 07 PST (#3 of 3)
    Hello,
Could you please try the following steps and let us know your observations?
    1) Go to the CUPS page (http://localhost:631) and change the default values of PageSize to "A2", Duplex to "Long Edge Binding", Resolution to "300dpi" and apply the changes. Please take a screenshot of the settings here.
    2) Launch Reader 8.1.1 (after removing the $HOME/.adobe folder) and open the print dialog. Choose the printer for which defaults were set in step 1 and click on the "Properties" button. Are the values chosen above listed in the drop-down boxes here? Please take a screenshot here too.
    3) What is the behavior on clicking the "Defaults" button now? Please take a screenshot after this step as well.
Could you please send the screenshots to nseth at adobe dot com? I know this is a slightly time-consuming exercise, but it would be great if you could try the above, since the issue reported by you is not reproducible at our end.
    Sincerely,
    Neha,

Scratch that, I got it to work.
    Even though the following commands:
    lpoptions -p printer-name -l | grep -i duplex
    and
    grep -i printer-name /etc/cups/lpoptions
were both showing duplex as the default on both the client and server side and despite the fact that the lp and lpr commands defaulted to double-sided, acroread and it turns out even evince were not.
    I re-ran the command:
    lpadmin -p printer-name -o Duplex=DuplexNoTumble
from the cups server for each of our duplex printers and now it looks to work fine.
I'm not sure how or when this happened but it sounds more like something I did or else an issue with cups (perhaps an update made something inconsistent?) than it does an acroread problem.
    Thanks for your time,
    Elliott

  • Adobe Reader 9.4  won't allow saving-copying-printing of data entered into form fields.

Hello, all.  I own a fully automated Continuing Education website with a national customer base.  The release of Adobe Reader 9.4 has brought a major problem for us which we haven't been able to overcome, and it's a critical issue which will destroy our business if the problem continues.
The problem:  Our professionally licensed website users earn online, instantly downloadable Continuing Education certificates in PDF file format, which are auto-generated by our software program when the user has successfully completed a course and its quiz.
Each certificate is a template created by Adobe Acrobat Pro 6 which contains the boilerplate course goals, credit hours earned for the course, plus all of our educational approval numbers needed to conduct business in each state.  THE PROBLEM HERE is that these generated certificates ALSO have form fields which are auto-completed by our system when the user successfully completes his or her course - i.e., the user's name, his license number, and the date and hour and minute of completion.  Until some of our customers began to use Adobe Reader 9.4 on their PC this past week, the certificate generation process has performed flawlessly - for over 3 years now, for over a thousand customers - the only exception being the  occasional MAC user who needs to download the correct version of Adobe Reader, and to use the correct browser.
Beginning last week, site users who have downloaded 9.4 can no longer SAVE their Continuing Education certificates to their computer with their name, license and date and time of completion showing on the certificate.   And they can't even print the certificate correctly - their name, license, and date of completion appear as blank lines.  They can't download or email the certificate with the critical form field data showing on the document. This is a devastating situation for our business and for the users - who certainly won't return, and are demanding refunds.
In fact, I (who installed 9.4 last week) discovered that I can't even download and save an intact copy of a customer's certificate from my own website, OR copy and paste information from a client's generated certificate in order to manually create a certificate for him or her.  The on-screen message tells me that I am not allowed to do this with this document .... despite the fact that I was the creator of the document. Needless to say, when I un-installed 9.4, I had none of these problems.
Customers wouldn't have problems either if they uninstalled 9.4 - but you can't tell customers who call in to complain, to uninstall their Adobe Reader program and find something else.  They also have to use Adobe Reader to view over half of the courses we offer, and they need to be able to work with them effectively with no problems.
In the past, because of occasional Adobe Reader problems of a different sort, we could tell customers to use Foxit or Nitro PDF if they had Adobe issues.  But that was back in the day when there was no competition in running an online CE website.  Now there is plenty of competition, and customers will just go elsewhere before they will try to reconfigure their computer just to stay with our site.
I will bet that hundreds (thousands?) of other online businesses who work with system-generated form fields in PDF documents have been similarly affected.
Is there a solution here?  Surely this was an UNINTENDED result of  Adobe's upgrade to 9.4.   Is there something that we can do at our end to eliminate these issues?  There are NO security protections or limitations imposed on these certificate documents.  And we CANNOT eliminate the form fields that are filled internally when the customer passes t the course.  Date and time of completion and all the rest are required by all of the States which license us.  Many thanks!

    That was it!
    Thanks

  • How to set up Internet Explorer 9 to show pdf in Adobe Reader instead of web browser

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit), Internet Explorer 9 and Adobe Reader IX (v.11.0.00).
I would like to set up Internet Explorer 9 to show pdf-files in Adobe Reader program windows instead of viewing pdf-files within the web browser. Adobe Reader IX doesn't have the setting "Display pdf-files in browser" any longer, earlier versions of Adobe reader did have that setting.

It happened firefox crashed so often when i was trying to open a PDF file and the article explains how to clear the Firefox cache in order to troubleshoot Yahoo! Messenger for the Web. After follow the step given,..updating firefox, run java runtime enviroment thing are okay but problem occurred when initializing the adobe flash player.and it said the conflicting would resolved after the firefox closed. What actually does it means??

Adobe needs to install a plugin for Firefox, and it can't install it while Firefox is running. Simply close Firefox and wait a minute or two, and then proceed with installing the Adobe Reader program.
