Adobe Reader update error

I received an update for Adobe Reader to Adobe Reader X.  Can not update.  I get the following message, "The update could not be applied because the Adobe Reader Application contents were modified since the original installation.  Please reinstall Adobe Reader and check for updates again.  Error: 1301"  Can' find the original disc.

Have you navigated to Adobe's site to see if they have the update you need?

    Hi,
It  looks like you do not have access to the registry key mentioned i.e.  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current  Version\Run\Optional Components\IMAIL.
This might be due to  the fact that you may not be added to the Administrators group or the  registry key has been denied access explicitly to a group that you may  be part of.
People in my network setup were facing the same issue,  and we fixed the same using Microsoft's "subinacl" tool. You can follow  the below mentioned steps to rectify your issue as well:
    1. Download Microsoft's SubinACL tool from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe -4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
    2. Install the same by double clicking on the "subinacl.msi" just downloaded.
    3. Open Command Prompt window through the Run Dialog Box (Start -> Run and type "cmd" and click OK)
    4. In the Command Prompt window, type in the following commands:
        i. cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (Hit Enter)
       ii. subinacl  /subkeyreg  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Opti  onalComponents /grant=administrators=f /grant=SYSTEM=f /grant=USERS=f  /grant="Creator Owner"=f (Hit Enter)
You  should see some processes happening on your screen. After the process  ends, retry the update operation you were originally trying to perform.  Hopefully, it should succeed now.

    Anyone any idea about this?

    Hi there Katie,
I just checked your account, and see that it's active. Are you trying to sign in via Adobe Reader? If so, please choose Help > Check for Updates in Reader and make sure that it-s up-to-date. The most current version, 11.0.07, should alleviate that sign-in error.
    Best,

  • Adobe Reader Updates Fail - Always. Why?

No Adobe Reader has ever updated successfully on any computer I have ever owned. Other parties' product updates invariably succeed. To update, I must completely uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install from scratch. I have this problem only with this product. Moreover, Adobe Reader updates have never worked on any computer I have ever owned, bar none.
    Why just Adobe Reader?

Are you talking about updates or upgrades. Upgrades require the download of the new version, typically uninstall of the old version, and then the install of the new version. If updates, just what errors are you getting? Just saying it does not work does not help us help you. You might also ask in the Reader forum.

  • Adobe reader updater is ready to install but won't -- need help

adobe reader  updater is ready to install but gets stuck on step 2 -- need help

It's OK.  I finally got Reader XI installed.  But once installed, the program would then lock up and show an error message whenever I tried  to open any of my existing PDF docs.  So I finally just gave up and deleted Reader XI from my system.  Fortunately, my existing version of Reader seems to work just fine.  Maybe I'll try again later after Adobe has worked out the kinks with Reader XI.  But thanks anyway for responding--no further help needed now.  I'm out.

  • Reader update error 1107 on specific network

    Greetings,
When attempting to update Adobe Reader (Mac) on our network (a large K-12 .edu network), clients receive an error "1107."  Clicking the "details" link is of no help.  If we take the same machine to a different network, updates work just fine.
I've looked at live packet filtering logs on our firewall when a client attempts to update, but do not see anything that sticks out.  I've also attempted different DNS servers on the client with the same results.
Here's the log information from Adobe Reader when attempting to update:
    2011-03-01 06:54:50 -0700: Downloading updater from : http:/armdl.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/mac/9.x/9.4.1/misc/AdbeRdrUpd941_all_i386.app.zip
    2011-03-01 06:54:50 -0700: Adobe Reader Updater encountered errorCode 1107
    2011-03-01 06:54:52 -0700: ***** Ending update to /Applications/Adobe Reader 9_/Adobe Reader.app
    2011-03-01 06:54:52 -0700: Error shown to user is: Error Domain=com.adobe.ARM Code=1107 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.adobe.ARM error 1107.)"
I do notice the URL is missing a forward slash on the protocol, but copying/pasting this exact URL into a web browser works fine.  So what is the application, Adobe Reader, doing differently that's causing it to fail on our network?  We're obviously able to access the updates via a web browser (the same from the logs).
Any insight would be most useful.  We've been plagued by this issue network-wide for quite a while now.

Adobe Reader Updater expects range request support in the http response received from the download server.
I suspect on your network some http-proxy or virus-scanner is dropping/modifying “Accept-Range” header of http response received from Adobe download server. Which can lead to this failure.

  • Is notification for Adobe Reader Update 11.0.0.04 fake?

Yesterday a notification popped up on my iMac (OSX 10.8.5) asking me if I wanted to download or install Adobe Reader Update 11.0.0.4. Was this an Adobe error with the upgrade number or could it possibly have been a fake notification and possibly malware. I pressed ESC rather than clicking yes or no on the popup. Do I have anything to worry about? I then went to the Adobe website and downloaded the 11.0.04 update. Thanks, Linda

Or download/install the update manually from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5639

  • How can I script Adobe Reader updates using vbScript, PowerShell or C#?

I would like to script Adobe Reader updates using vbScript, PowerShell or C#, are there any Adobe API calls I use to do this.  There are several different version that I support and auto update is not an option. I do updates at a specific time of the month. I would like to write a script that would download and install the update for the currently installed version of Adobe Reader (32 or 64 bit) for the version of the OS (32 or 64bit). I can detect the OS version and the Adobe version.  I can download updates but I do not want to hard code anything

    Sabian is correct.
Most admins download the updates from the ftp site and push via AIP, GPO, SCCM, or some other method whenever it makes sense for them.
