ADR guidline

I really like ADR's, save me lots of time however how should I handle an update that causes problems, if I remove it the ADR just brings it right back again.
Case in point
http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/03/ms-update-3033929-causing-reboot-loop/#more-30322

You could use a Custom Severity to exclude updates. For an example see:

"Failed to download the update from internet. Error = 5"
The above is the error I am getting when running any ADR. The error is quite clear software updates are failing to download and Error = 5 being a permissions error its clear that the downloads are failing due to incorrect permissions applied to the download
    path.
Here is the last bit of my ruleengine.log, everything above is the same except for the update trying to be downloaded of course:

Also, I do not have a patchdownloader.log anywhere, Ive checked all aforementioned locations from various sources and it just simply does not exist on my SCCM server. Here is my setup:
Server1: Primary server with all roles installed locally except the site database is on its own server. WSUS is installed locally here and DB is stored here.
Server2: SQL DB for Primary site DB
Server3: Secondary remote site running MP, DP, SUP. DB is SQL Express local.
So the SUP role was installed successfully on both server1 first and server 2 second with the site servers accounts. The SUP Synchronizes successfully and I can see a large list of updates available for use but not downloaded of course. I have set WSUS option
to store updates locally and have plenty of space at the target destination.
So here is my issue, I have been working on this issue for the better part of a week and understand the error code from the ruleengine.log to be a permissions issue. I have also proved this out but creating a test ADR with minimal updates and applied NTFS perms
to the target path for Modify with the everyone group (testing purposes only). The updates downloaded successfully. So this puts me right back to where I was, knowing its a permissions issue but not understanding what permissions are needed. Let me explain
    further.
The best way to start is to show what perms I have to the target location for downloads/wsus/sup anything:
Path: \\Server1\UpdatesAndDefinitions    (permissions being applied to the UpdatesAndDefinitions root folder)
SCCMAdmin (account used for most SCCM tasks except for NA) / Modify / Share and NTFS
Server1$ (primary site server) / Modify / NTFS
Everyone / read and execute / NTFS and Share
There are other system generated perms but the above three are the important ones. So hence my confusion I know that the SCCMAdmin account or the Server its self has to be accessing the target directory so why is it failing with a permissions issue?
My next step was to enable Auditing on the target path. Doing so revealed just what I thought and through me into further frustration:
A network share object was accessed.
    Subject:

A handle to an object was requested.

Now I may not be the best I traversing through the mess of audit entry's and translating them, but from what I can see the two accounts that have the proper share and ntsf perms ive listed above are indeed the ones accessing the target location and the audit
code is success. I filter for failures and found no audits for failures whatsoever yet my downloads still fail religiously, unless of course I open myself up with the everyone group.
So next... I tried adding in the Network Service account with proper permissions, the Local Service Account, my user account, and all no go's.
Next... I remove the SUP roles from SCCM checked the logs for deinstall confirmations, and reinstalled these roles. No Go!
If anyone can assist I would be in your debt and very grateful.
Oh last note, but very important note I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4
    Thanks,
    Michael
    MichaelSpaulding

I just tested with the everyone group further; I added everyone with modify for ntfs and just read only for share and downloads failed!
I then changed the share perms for everyone to change and the ntfs to read/execute and poof downloads complete! Obviously change share perms for everyone leaves me open which Id like to prevent, so finding what account is being used is crucial.
I have already tried adding all of the SCCM accounts I use and the servers themselves as change perms to share and ntfs and have not had any luck.

  • Automatic Deployment Rule - One ADR for Two Different Collection for Two Different time Intervals

I have a scenario where two collection of Windows 8.1 is made based on geographical location. One collection is for all the windows 8.1 machines in India and one collection is for all windows 8.1 machines in US. Now I have created one ADR to be deployed
to the Collection for Machines in India with a schedule.
My requirement is that can i use the same ADR for those two collection with different schedule. Say I want ADR to be deployed in India at say 10:PM IST and for US collection at say 10:00 PM PST.
Can I use one ADR with two different schedule and can be deployed to two different collection. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Couple of "bits" to help you one your patch automation quest:
A ADR is very much a 1:1:1 rule.  It creates (or updates) ONE update group, deploys it to ONE collection, and you can provide ONE schedule.  While you are more than capable of flipping said deployment time to use local time instead of UTC, in general
it's a very simple set of rules that are dogmatically run.
That said because of the "include" feature of collections it's not that hard to setup a good/robust patching pattern.  What I recommend doing is building an ADR for each variance of deployment of patches or enforcement time.  for example,
my ADRs look something like this:
Software Updates - Zero day enforced
Software Updates - Critical and Security 1 month enforced
Software Updates - Critical and Security 1 month no reboots
Exact terminology is up to you of course, but I find a good descriptive ADR name saves a lot of confusion.  For each ADR I create an identical collection.  From there I can use existing collections and a simple "include collection" rule
to bundle things up and make them part of the patching schedule of my choice.  Anyone can now go into my "software update" folder, look at my collections, and know exactly what gets patched by what deadline.
Finally, don't be afraid to look into maintenance windows to trim down ADR count.  Making a deployment available for a month before it goes enforced, then setting up groups of maintenance windows (one for each Friday of the week for example) can also
accomplish a similar goal by having machines auto-patch during their week but you only using one ADR.
So by having two "types" of collections to manage your patching (one to assign a ADR built by deployment deadlines, the other for exact update windows) you should be able to group most your workstations into a decent patch scheudle without being
too excessive about creating a billion ADRs.

  • FEATURE REQUEST - looping record of selected region (ADR)

I need Audition to have a better, more professional workflow for ADR and Foley. It can either be a looping "record" with preroll and postroll or a pop-up tool that accepts regions, in to out timecode, or markers to control what section of the video track it shows during recording. It would also be nice if the preroll had the standard 3 1k beeps plus a silent "4th beep" at picture start. Anyone else have other workflows or additional thoughts?

I "second"' this request. I've been struggling to find a way to ADR some dialog for spots. You'd think no-one ever heard of this professional feature set. johnm has outlined the feature request nicely. Is there a plug-in available for this?

On premis users (Exchange 2013) can send to the same contact just fine.So for 365 users that failed we have tested the following:
Using OWA,says recepient cannot be found.
All 365 users fails to same recepients, for now a dosen People.

    Hi Ed,
thanks for reply and sorry for late reply, been alot to do lately With lots if migrations and errors.
YEs you are correct that the problem is caused by useraccount was in wrong OU and was not sync to the "Cloud".
Move users Object to correct OU and all was working fine.Strange this is that it have worked before,so does it mean that if user is not in the OU defined to synced,it will be removed from the cloud?
    Br
Ill put it as resolved :)

  • Best practice for SCEP definition ADR?

This is how I understand the best practice to be for configuring the SCEP definition ADR:
Have synchronization run once per day during non peak hours
Configure the SCEP definition ADR to run after each synchronization rather than running in intervals such as every 6 hours
Do not run synchronizations multiple times per day because it can add extra load on the server and cause the software update package version to increase too quickly and impact the definition deployment success rate
    Is this true?
If so, then if Microsoft releases SCEP definitions 3 times per day and the synchronization runs only once per day, then obviously SCEP clients will not be able to download the latest, most current SCEP definition due to the fact that the sync process is
what actually grabs the metadata from Microsoft's catalog.
Is it even possible to run multiple synchronizations per day? I am running SCCM 2012 R2 in my environment and I DO NOT see anywhere where one can configure multiple software update synchronizations to take place. It is possible from what I understand to
do this using 3rd party tools, but I really do not want to go there.
Can someone please help me with this?
    As always, thanks so much.

    Hi,
That changed after Sp1 so it was true but now with sp1 and R2 you can schedule them three times a day. If you have infrastructure that can't handle that, that is another topic. But from Sp1 and further synchronizing the SUP three times a day and set the
ADR to trigger after a synchronization is the best practice.
"For performance reasons, in Configuration Manager with no Service Pack, do not schedule automatic deployment rules to deliver definition updates more than once each day. In Configuration Manager SP1, do not schedule automatic deployment rules to deliver
definition updates more than three times a day."

  • ADR session

    Hey-
I'm about to do a quick and dirty ADR session for a friend of mine who's involved on making a feature film. My ideal setup is to set up a padded recording booth in the small closet near my workstation, while running a video output to a preview monitor in the booth so the actor can watch the clips as we record the ADR.
Here's my question. I've used Final Cut Pro extensively and always used to have a preview monitor up for previewing my edits in real-time on the television. It would output via firewire to a box that converted the outgoing DV-NTSC to a composite cable output that i could run to the stanard composite input on my monitor. Can I do the same with Logic??? I've done scoring in logic in the past where I've loaded quicktime movies onto the timeline for scoring to, but I've never needed to have a LIVE VIDEO OUTPUT FEED as the track was playing/recording...
...this is vital for the ADR session: to be able to hit record in logic, and as the track records it not only plays the video we're recording to, but outputs it via NTSC so i can have live video playback on the monitor in the booth so my actor can watch the video in realtime and we can preview our recordings instantly and effeciantly.
    Thanks in advance!
    chris

You sure can. Just open the movie and sync it up your movie start time with your Logic sequence (Options/Movie/Open Movie). Then go to Edit/Song Settings/Video and select Firewire for the Video Output - Dont forget to set Sound Output to "Mute" or you might hear any audio that's associated with your quicktime movie. You'll may also have to play around with External Video to Song setting (I used to enter -27 for my Canopus ADVC-100) to get it in sync. That setting is found by clicking the Video Preferences button in the lower right.
I got rid of my ADVC-100 and instead run video out to an LCD monitor via a DVI cable. I select Digital Cinema Desktop as the Video Format and I get perfect sync all the time. No External to video offset needed.
    Good luck!
    Danny

How can I investigate this issue?

    Hi Turboon,
    Thank you for your question.
Did this issue occur when mailbox was moved to office 365?
"Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found'’ could be occurred if the on-premises mail-enabled user who represents the moved mailbox isn't stamped correctly with the target address. The Exchange server generates an NDR
message because the on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) can't locate the user in order to route the mail correctly. We could add the target address, also known as the service routing address, to the mail-enabled user in the on-premises environment
    by the following steps:
In a web browser on your local Exchange 2013 server, browse to the Exchange Admin Center,
Click Recipients, and then click Mailboxes.
Click the user, and then click Edit.
Click Email Address, and then click Add, .
Under Email Address, click SMTP, and then enter the email address. Use the
<alias>@<domain>.mail.onmicrosoft.com format for the email address.
Click OK, and then click Save.
We could refer to the following link:

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

I have read Internet about this case. And this solutions help to us, but only for one month... But it comes again and again. I
have read information about X500 address, but these all cases involved
a local user. When error comes description is about wrong X500 for local user. Why my Exchange 2010 SP3 doesn't send email to external domain, but looking in local database? Of course this address absent in database, because it is
    external address.
Can be this is due to the fact that the user stores more than 30,000 messages in one folder and OAB always crushed?
This problem has only one user, and only while he write to Exchange Online domain.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
Please try to use owa to send a message to exchange online user to check the result.
Because there are many messages, I recommend you set retention policy, and then apply it to the user's mailbox.

    Hi,
According to your description, I found that delivery failed when sent email from Exchange 2013 to Office 365. Following is my understanding, please correct me if there is any misunderstanding.
    1. The sender Md. Mahmudul Hasan's mailbox holding in Exchange 2013 server.
    2. The recipients' (in "To" and "Cc" field) mailboxes holding in Office 365.
    3. When the sender Md send email to the recipients, delivery failed and got the NDR "Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found'".
If it is the case, please verify the recipients' email addresses.
If the recipients are all moved from Exchange 2013 to Office 365, this issue may occur if the on-premises mail-enabled user who represents the moved mailbox isn't stamped correctly with the target address.
The Exchange server generates an NDR message because the on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) can't locate the user in order to route the mail correctly.
More details in the following KB:
"Delivery has failed" and "550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound" NDR after a mailbox is moved to Office 365

    Hope it is helpful

I am getting the above error when i send a mail from external domain. I have exchange server 2010 on and O365 account. From last 2 months i am not using O365 account and even active sync is also not working. And recently O365 subscription was over. So now

    Hi,
Have you tried deleting the bad entry in your Outlook or Outlook Web App recipient AutoComplete cache as the error message suggested? If not, please have a try on it.
In addition, this issue may also occur if the on-premises mail-enabled user who represents the moved mailbox isn't stamped correctly with the target address. The Exchange server generates an NDR message because the on-premises Active Directory Domain Services
(AD DS) can't locate the user in order to route the mail correctly. To resolve it, please refer to this KB article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685437
Also have a look at the following article regarding 5.1.1 error:

  • Why EPUB to Word instead of ADR?

I have loaded and reloaded ADR for InDesign. When I go to File/Export/EPUB and save to desktop, then click save, I do not go to ADR but back to the INDD document. When I go to desktop, the icon is of a word document, which will not permit me to open it. What's going on (or not)?

    ADR?
Do you mean ADE, Adobe Digital Editions? If so, the problem is the file association on your computer.
Given that you've haven't told us anything all that useful it's impossible to even guess where to go next.
Let's start with this: What operating system, what version of InDesign?

    Hi,
can anybody give me a hint where I can find the filters for diplaying results in a search result list. I found following information in chapter 17 of the UI Guidlines for SAP CRM:
    Search result lists
One option for entries in a search result list is to show only objects for which the user executing the search has at least display authorizations (in other words, the result list is filterred based on maintained authorizations).
The other option is to also show objects for which the user doeas not at least have display authorization (in other words, the result list is not filtered based on maintained authorizations).
But I don't know where ic can set these filters.
    Best Regards
    Michael

You should use BAdI CRM_BADI_RF_Q1O_SEARCH for BTX and BADI_CRM_BUPA_IL_SEARCH_EXT for BUPA search. There is one little problem with BUPA - BAdI is called not always, solution of this is here: Filtering account search
