Advice On Buying a 15 inch Macbook

I love my iMac, and dont really need a laptop now, but i am the kind that likes to think ahead.  I am 14 and when it comes to the point of needing a new laptop for school i want to get a macbook pro.  The Retina Displays are really expensive.  I was thinking about staying with the standard.  I want to know what kind of speed decrease i would see in the 15 inch 2.3 ghz.  From my iMac 2.7ghz quad core i5, 4gb ram.  I suspect that in the next 2-3 years they will still have the standard macbook except maybe better hardware.  So what should i start saving for the 2.3 ghz(with 3rd party ram and harddrive upgrade) as a secondary computer to my imac, or prepare to get a top dog Macbook Pro to replace the iMac.  Right now i have been going towards the secondary computer option.  I currently use my mac for safari, email, messaging, facetime, itunes, photoshop, minecraft, in and out of movie making phases with final cut and adobe after effects.  If i were to get a macbook as a secondary computer i would probably do all that except the movie making. movie making would be on imac.  Basicly i kind of have a game plan, but if any of you have a better option for me/ advice i would like to know.
Thanks

Yes, if there are Arabic letters then there have to be English letters as well, because otherwise you could not type any email or web addresses.
As to where you can buy such a machine, you have to contact stores in the country where you live directly yourself and ask them.  Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store.  Apple stores do not ship outside the country where they are located.

  • Hi, I'd like to buy a 13 inch macbook air. My biggest concern is to get one that doesn't have high EMFs to it and that has low heat. Which one would you suggest? The older 2010, or the 2011 with the i5 chip or the newest with the i7 chip?

Hi, I would like to buy my first laptop computer, the 13 inch macbook air.
    My biggest concerns are:
    1. Which has the least amount of EMFs? I'm sensitive to that and have enjoyed my iPad (original) that has no EMF fields.
    2. Which runs the coolest?
I want the 128 gig one. Which would fit my requirments, the 2010 with the 2 Core Duo, the 2011 I believe it is with the i5 chip, or the newest one with the i7 chip? From the reviews I have read, it sounds like the one with the i7 chip runs the hottest.
I'm sure I am missing a whole lot of information, please fill me in!
    Thanks,
    Martha

Changing the 13 inch screen resolution will unfortunately result in a less sharp display, simply because all these type of displays have an 'native' resolution which gives optimal results, leaving other settings less crisp. The 13 inch MBA panel has a native resolution of 1440x900, which is remarkable for a screen of that size (I have 17 inch widescreen monitors at work with that same resolution) but it can certainly be set at a lower figure.
The one area where the trackpad has benefits over a mouse is that you can use multi-touch gestures, just as on the iPad. That's a feature I really like, particularly being able to zoom in and out and scroll up and down, though of course other gestures are supported too. As such then it does indeed work much like the touch screen capaibilities of an iPad.
If you have a Mighty Mouse the one with the tiny scroll-ball on the top-front, then they are notorious for scrolling issues due to getting clogged up. They're not hard to clean, but the Mighty Mouse is notably inferior to the later Magic Mouse, which doesn't have a scroll-ball or wheel, but uses the whole top panel for scrolling using gestures in much the same way as a trackpad. I've found a Magic Mouse a good investment for any Bluetooth-capable Mac (which of course includes all MBA models).
[ON EDIT]: The MBA doesn't come with Flash, but it is a free download from Adobe, and is very simple to install. Just make sure you get the installer from Adobe.com and not any other location since there is some malware which masquerades as a Flash installer but is not safe to install! Beware though that Flash is very processor intensive, and if anything will run the MBA fans up to speed, and heat the system up, it is that.
    Good luck with the readings!!

  • I want to buy a 15 inch retina MacBook Pro what configruation do I need?

I would like to buy a 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina display but can't decide on a confiruation to get. Here are the things I do on my computer
Use all of the pre-loaded apps Mail, Safari, etc.
Download more from the Mac App Store
Import pictures from my iPhone 5 and iPad 4 and edit them in Aperture
    Use iLife and iWork
    My budget is around $2600
I will either customize it so it cost less than $2600 or just buy the standard $2199 model.
Please let me know what you all think as to what configuration I should buy!
This will be to replace my 17 inch MacBook Pro from April 2010 whitch has a 2.53GHz Intel Dual-Core i5 processor, 4GB 1067MHz RAM, 500GB Hard Drive

If I were configuring a Retina model, I would make sure that I ordered the maximum 16GB of RAM and the 512GB solid state storage. If that's $2,600, then go for it.
Through MacMall, that configuration is $3,183.99. But I think that it would be worth it.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Will a 13 inch Macbook pro non retina 2.5 ghz run minecraft good

I am looking to buy a 13 inch macbook pro 2.5ghz the $1199 one. Will it run minecraft fast?

I'm looking at getting one too. I watched some videos on YouTube and it looks to be 50-100 fps on full settings. But I have heard a rumour on the apple website that MineCraft looks blurry on the retina display models because it hasn't been optimised for such high resolution. Mojang can fix that though. They just need contacted.

  • Need expert advice on buying new macbook pro 15 inch

Hi I Am a digital textile designer and  planning to buy my first retina macbook pro. I need expert advice, which model should i buy 15 inch base model or with dedicated graphics card. i will use macbook for digital designing on Adobe photoshop and multi tasking. so now really confused is intel iris pro graphics will handle heavy files on photoshop or Nvidia GT750 m will good for heavy work. I am working on very large resolution file like 10 to 15k in resolution approx 1 GB in file size with lot of filters is being use while designing. Which model will handle above task well and last longer.

    Look at the specifications here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro
You may be confusing the quad core CPU with the Graphics processor.
It should have no difficulty in running Adobe Photoshop.
    Ciao.

I will use Barclays Card for 18 month free interest.
I wil ask Apple clerk to avoid LG monitor.
I will buy those in Apple store.
    Which one will you recommend?

Tha's something you need to decide for yourself.
Do you think you need 16GB of memory or 8 will be enough?
Do you need to carry your macbook around with you more often? if so just get the 13" it's easier to carry.
Or maybe you enjoy watching media on a bigger screen?
As for word processing it shouldn't be a problem on both notebooks.
Also can you afford buying the 15"?
And what about the hard drive capacity?
So my advice is to consider these aspects, make a list of pros and cons and see what you come up with

  • Advice on buying a 13" MacBook Pro

    Hey everybody!
I am currently getting ready to buy my wife and I our first Mac. But I need some advice in making sure I'm picking the right one.
    I'll give you the rundown:
I'm looking at the 13" MacBook Pro because I'm double majoring in communications and advertising so I would like something relatively portable as I spend a lot of time going from class to class and going to the library. I've been doing a lot of presentations with graphics and writing papers.
My wife is getting ready to start (finally) her own photography business and she is the one that pointed me towards Macs.
Money is somewhat of an issue, I have been saving but my PC just died on me a little bit earlier than what I would have liked, so a new computer is needed rather quickly.
So I was thinking of either of the 13" models (for portability sake) and maxing the RAM out. I would also be buying her, her very own external hard drive for her pictures.
And then later on this summer grab her a Thunderbolt Display so she has a bigger monitor.
So I guess my biggest question is, which one would be best for the next year until we get on our feet and I graduate? Or should I just man up and buy a 15"? After I graduate, the laptop will go right to her or I'll buy her a new bigger one after I find a job. Thank you for any and all advice you all can give me.

Yes, go with what you can afford, but don't be scared to buy refurbished from Apple directly.  Sometimes you can pick up a refurbished unit that's the higher-spec'd one for much less or the same price as a new lower spec'd one.  The refurbished Apple products are like new ones and come with the same warranty as a new one.  It's almost a win win if you ask me.  Also, save your money that you'd spend on maxing out the RAM.  If you buy a refurb 13" MacBook (2012 model), you can add this CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 and max it out at a much lesser cost than Apple would charge.
Here's the link for all currently available MacBook Pro's in the refurb store. MacBook Pro

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • Can I buy a replacement battery for my 13 inch Macbook Pro from Apple?

The battery for my Early 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro is now completely dead, no longer even recognized by my computer.  Anyone know if I take it into the apple store if they can replace it for me?  I didn't see a battery in the Apple Store that would work, but would they have one there?

  • 60W charger for 15 inch Macbook Pro?

Hi, it is finals time and my 85W Macbook Pro charger has just decided to quit on me. My friend is selling her 60W charger that she uses on her 13 inch Macbook Pro...can I buy it and use it on my 15 inch one?
    Thanks!

    Hi collegegirl,
The earlier MBPs, like yours, have a separate Graphics Processing Unit that adds to the power draw when compared with the current "base model" 15" 2.53 model that comes with the 60W power supply. The newer computers also have a reduced power load in other areas, too.
I've run my own older SantaRosa 15" on 60W power adaptors on various occasions (more by accident than deliberate decision - we have several of both varieties in the house) and nothing untoward has happened, but they are likely to heat up a little more than an 85W when used on an "85W" computer, and your battery may also be "called on" to supply extra power on occasion, even when the charger is connected.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2346 has some advice, and lists the adaptors appropriate for different MBPs.
So, in short, though the solution probably seems appealing to you both, it is not really a good idea, I'm afraid.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Type of battery -- mid 2010 13-inch macbook; and how soon do I need to replace dead battery?

I'm trying to replace the battery on my mid 2010 13-inch Macbook. I'm not sure what kind of battery I need to get, and can't seem to find any indication in "System Information". It's a "MacBook7,1" with Intel Core 2 Duo and Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz. I found this battery on amazon: "Apple MacBook Pro 13 Inch Mid 2010 Battery 60Wh, 5500mAh". Will it work? Do I need to get one with a particular power capacity, or anything like that?
I'm also wondering how quickly I need to get the problem fixed. My computer stopped working yesterday unless plugged into a power source. I don't really want to send it away to get it fixed, as I have a lot of work I need to do on it over the course of the next week. If I buy a battery online, wait for it to arrive, and install it (a process that will probably take at least 4-5 days), will I be leaving it too long? Or is it OK to continue just running my computer off the mains for now?
    Thanks!

PS: here's some other info I found, after my earlier post timed-out:
See how a determined DIY user with some skills & abilities could dissect & replace battery:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Unibody+Model+A1342+Battery+Replacement/166 7
Example of what new replacement battery looks like, for your Mac; w/ part number:
    http://www.battery-center.net/apple-macbook-unibody-13-battery.html
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
An Apple Store or Authorized Apple service provider could replace the battery
for the cost of the part, and a fee for the tech time. This may vary by location.
Hopefully this helps. The part is not considered 'user replaceable' but it is possible.
    Good luck & happy computing!
