Advice on new HD system display

I'm about to buy a new system. I'm getting a quad-core 2.4Ghz 8Gb Mac Pro with a 27" Apple display. Will I be able to set the DVI-driven Cinema Display to flow into one of the mini-display ports, like a dual display setup? Will a 20" widescreen LCD monitor plus the Apple display be enough screen space?

Apple sells a DVI-D display port adapter for about $99.95. Look for it at the Apple store.
The 27" ACD is gorgeous, but it is come only with a glossy display, and it does reflect pretty severely.
I would consider instead the Dell Ultra Sharp 27". More ports, 3 year warranty, and about the same price.

The latest version of iPhoto which can operation with OS X 10.4.11 is iPhoto 7 which is part of iLife 08.  You might be able to find a copy of iLIfe 08 on Amazon.com or Ebay.com.
iLife 08's full system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor
iMovie ’08 requires a Mac computer with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0 GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9 GHz or faster)
iDVD ’08 requires 733MHz or faster processor
512 MB of RAM; 1 GB recommended; high-definition video requires at least 1 GB of RAM

You can't. Theoretically, Thunderbolt devices that only transfer video and audio should work with Mini DisplayPort MacBooks like yours, but it's not the case of the Thunderbolt Display. Its firmware doesn't allow it to be used with non-Thunderbolt Macs, so you can't use the Thunderbolt Display with the Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.
Instead, you have to look for another screen, or you can get an adapter and connect the MacBook Pro to a TV

  • How can I restore my iPhone 3Gs after I tried to update to the new operating system.

I tried to upgrade my 3Gs to the new operating system(IOS5) and I got some kind of unknown error.  I told iTunes to do the back up before doing the upgrade.  The phone is stuck in restore mode with the "connect to iTunes" logo displayed.
I have the latest version of iTunes on my computer. I've restarted my computer.  The iTunes doesnt seem to see the iPhone, but when I connect the phone to the computer I hear the recognition jingle by the comoputer, the one you hear when when a piece of equipment is connected to the computer.  In addition, when i look at "my computer"  I dont see the iPhone in the selections of items connected to the computer.
I have tried all the reset proceducures with turning the phone off and using the home key.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

I have a MacBook which I purchased in 2006. It cannot upgrade to newer operating systems.Since Apple has stopped support to Snow Leopard, how can I keep my MacBook safe? Buying another computer is not an option. Any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks.

Apple still sell, and therefore support, Snow Leopard.
For what it's worth, from my reading of the Snow Leopard EULA (and I would  assume that there is similar language in the EULAs for all other operating systems, as well), I'm not seeing any obligation on the part of Apple to provide Security Updates of any kind, period/full stop. The wording appears to be completely "use at your own risk." I have no idea whether this "use at your own risk" would survive a legal challenge, or if such a legal challenge would depend on whether or not Apple is still selling (or even giving away for free) an OS, or whether local law would, according to this, override the EULA. Perhaps this is why Apple never formally announces EOL or discontinuance of support for an OS. They can always claim that they are still supporting an OS, whether or not in any practical sense, they are. There was even a very late Flashback detection and removal script which Apple issued for 10.5 well after it was clear that they had stopped supporting Leopard. This hardly constituted ongoing support, but perhaps it was to deter the threat of legal action, or maybe it was simply out of benevolence. I don't know.
Besides that, even when Apple was still actively "supporting" Snow Leopard, which I don't think it is any longer, "use at your own risk" would still have applied to a case where Apple may have been late with a patch, or a response, or an adequate response, to a zero-day threat, such as Flashback was, which was constantly evolving. Many thousands were affected by that, and, to my knowledge, at least, there was no legal action directed at Apple throughout or after that episode. If there was any, I don't think it succeeded.

  • How best to get my vga Powermac G4 connected to my new dvi Cinema Display?

    Hi Folks,
My new 23" Cinema Display has arrived. That's the good news. Of course I checked Apple's site before the purchase, to be sure the new monitor would work with my very old G4. As soon as I saw the line under System Requirements where it said "G4 or G5 Powermac or Powerbook", I thought I was covered. Now I find MY G4 has a vga connector and not a dvi. Thereby hangs the bad news.
Does anyone make a pci-based video card that will let me connect to the Cinema display? Should I be looking into one of the vga-to-dvi boxes that Gefen Inc. makes? Other strategies?
    Many thanks,
    Rod

The ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card with 128MB VRAM has a DVI and VGA port IIRC. If you still have the original Rage 128 in a PCI G4 (Yikes G4) then it wouldn't support the monitor without an upgrade anyway, the 23" requires at least 64MB VRAM (maybe even 128MB) IIRC.

  • Will my MBA work with the new LED Cinema Display

I have a first generation MBA, model identifier MBA 1.1, and want to know if my mini display adapter will work with the new LED Cinema Display. I believe I have a micro-DVI that is different from the new MacBooks and MacBook Professional models that have a new Mini DisplayPort. If anyone is using this old MBA to new LED Cinema Display combination please let me know.

    Scott,
The new display isn't shipping from Apple until some time in November so the only direct feedback you'll get is from anyone that's been to the store and played with the demo unit.
With that being said, it would appear (based on the system specs and requirements, posted on the site) that the new display requires the new adapter type that's found only on the new MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

  • New 27" Thunderbolt Display Flickers when attached to new 27" iMac

I'm using a new 27" iMac. I require a dual-monitor configuration so yesterday I purchased a new 27" Thunderbolt display and plugged its built-in Thunderbolt cable into the Thunderbolt port of the iMac. I now have a huge desktop space that spans two monitors. With that in mind…
At least once every few minutes the new Thunderbolt display blacks out (i.e. flickers) for approximately one second. The symptom is very similar to what a Windows-attached display does when the screen resolution is changed. A quick Google search indicates others are experiencing the same problem although most complainants are using a MacBook or Mini, not an iMac.
Apple posted a firmware update for the Thunderbolt display a few days ago. I installed it successfully but the problem remains. Any advice?

    UPDATE:
I received a call back from a senior tech at Apple. The salient points are as follows:
    (1) Apple engineers are well aware of the problem.
    (2) They plan to release a firmware update for the display at some indeterminate time.
    (3) The fix for this problem will not be bundled into the forthcoming 10.7.2 Lion update.
Given that the flickering problem renders the Thunderbolt monitor virtually unusable as a desktop extension for a 27" iMac, combined with the fact that Apple has no idea when a fix for the problem will be available, my decision to return the monitor for a full refund is a virtual certainty.
AppleCare objected to my conclusion that the Thunderbolt monitor is "incompatible" with the iMac. Perhaps they're right. I'm not super technical so it's possible that I used the wrong term. It's a semantic distinction though. The bottom line is that Thunderbolt displays flicker when attached to a brand new 27" iMac and my personal opinion is that one is better off not purchasing this device until Apple fixes this major flaw.
Apple asked me to make a video of the Thunderbolt display manifesting the problem. Here it is.

Hopefully this information will be of value to someone.

  • New IMac system on the way

    Hey all,
So I just ordered a new IMac system... Refurbished 27" IMac 3.4Ghz quad-core with i7, 8GB memory, 1TB Fusion Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX with 2GB.
I decided to go with the 1TB Fusion drive to run along side my new Lacie 2Big 4TB Thunderbolt Raid HD. I'm pretty psyched on the new setup as it's my first IMac. I'm a artist working in photograpy, video and design. I do lots of editing and annimation in After Effects and Photoshop. I currently edit all my work in Premire CS6. In terms of the Lacie drive... I wanted some advice and input on setting it up and partioning the drive for multiple media. In terms of the Fusion drive, I wanted to run the applications and OS on the SSD. What's the best way to setup my 4TB Raid HD? I was thinking of taking 1 TB and using it for time machine. The other three I wanted for media and project files. What are some of your setups? If you don't mind sharing of course.
    Many Thanks

I have got a 21'5-inch iMac with a 870 GB partition for OS X and a 130 GB partition for Windows, and my LaCie external drive has got a 830 GB partition for Time Machine and 170 GB for files.
At the moment, this configuration works without any problem, and the configuration you want will work correctly. Also, this iMac won't give you any problem by using those apps.
Respecting to Fusion Drive, note that OS X will put your apps wherever it wants, so most used apps will be in the SSD and other applications will be in the HDD

  • I upgraded to Yosemite several days ago.  The new itunes will display episode numbers.  Does the new itunes allow editing of episode numbers?

I upgraded to the new operating system, Yosemite, on my 13" macbook pro.  I installed the new itunes in the process of upgrading.  My itunes library includes music files with "episode numbers."  iTunes will display these, but appears not to allow me to enter episode numbers for newly acquired music.  Is there a way I can edit episode numbers?  If not, is it considered a bug?  Can we expect a future release of iTunes in which this is fixed?  If not, why not?  Why has Apple disrupted its customer base's use of its products?  It doesn't seem like a good idea to eliminate useful functionality from your products.

I don't know why it would take 6 hours to back up your iPad - unless you have the 64GB device and you have it loaded to the gills with content already. It should not take that long.
You can backup your iPad to your computer and transfer all purchases into iTunes and you should not have to restore the device to factory settings. When you connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left sidebar and select Transfer Purchases. That will put all of the apps and purchased content into Tunes on your Mac. Let that process complete and then right click on the device name again and select Backup this time. Let that process complete.
Now go into all of the different tabs of iTunes, Info, Apps, Music, Photos, etc, etc, and make sure that you have selected all of the content that you want to sync with the iPad. Put checkmarks in all of the headings as well - Sync Apps, Sync Music, etc.... Then click on Sync in the lower right corner.
If something goes wrong - or if you forget an app or a playlist or album - or anything at all - just go back into the corresponding tab in iTunes, select the item to sync - and click on Apply in the lower right corner.
After you do all of this - you can set up Wi-Fi syncing and it should go without issue. You can backup to iCloud or to iTunes as you see fit. Personally, I am not relying solely on iCloud yet. I do backup to iCloud, but I still back up to iTunes on my Mac as well - and I use Time Machine to backup all of that up.

  • New Source System Issue

    Hi
We are trying to connect new Source System to BW. It is ECC 5.0.
When I try to activate the Source System, it generates the following error:
    <b>EDI: Partner profile not available
Entry in inbound table not found
Entry in outbound table not found
Entry in outbound table not found</b>
I checked WE20, it looks good. This is very similar to the current R/3 System (4.6). I was able to REPLICATE the DATASOURCE with no issues.
Can you please let me know, how this could be resolved.
    Regards,
    GPK.

    Hi Guru's
The OSS note mentioned was a good one. I did check that OSS to ensure we were on track. There was no loop hole i got in regards to this issue.
I cannot say why it worked for me but I could tell what I did.
    1. Deleted the source system, I creted.
    2. Created the Source System back again.
    3. It worked, but the only difference I noted was that, the icon of the source system is like the BW and not like the r/3 icon. I don't know WHY??
Thank you all for your support and advices.

  • Steps for creating new source system

    Hi guys
We are on BI 7 and ECC 6 now...We are planning to get the data from other source systems (R/3 4.6)which are existed in different place.
Now my question is what are the steps to get the data from this new Source system and whats BI developer role for this...
Example: Inorder to establish the connection between BI and R/3 we need an RFC connection (Is this done by BASIS / BI )? If its BI , then what do I need to ask for ?
afterthat what are all the questions or points that I need to raise to the folks in the meeting...
    Please advice
    regards

    Hi
    refer to this link below
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/ac/4a4e38493e4774e10000009b38f889/frameset.htm
Exactly this will be taken up by BASIS team so that at any time if we have any issues with RFCs like RFC connection failure we will not get any data to our targets.
Then we have to raise ticket to basis stating this failure
