Afraid to upgrade from OS X 10.3 to 10.4.

I'd like to run OS X 10.4 on my G4 Tower because my newer G4 Powerbook runs 10.4.10 but my tower has ALL my video files and programs (FCP, Kona LS, After Effects, etc.) i.e., my livelihood. I'm afraid I'll run into problems with my existing files. I've already read about some problems in these forums. Are those problems exceptions or the rule?
I'm afraid I'll get trapped with compatibility problems.

If you have an extra scratch drive, try cloning your system to that drive with CCCloner or SuperDuper. After cloning, change the startup drive in system prefs to the cloned system. It is probably a good idea to repair permissions before cloning.
Next upgrade the cloned system to 10.4.x via the DVD, then update to 10.4.10 by download, and, finally, work for a while with the new system, being sure to test all your must-have apps. If all is good, well... then your good.
If not, then just boot off your original, untouched drive, like you always have, and you back to 10.3, with no damage done. If you're really paranoid, make a second backup to a firewire drive (that since you seem to be a video pro, you probably have a few) just for safe keeping.
My G4 performed much better under Tiger than Panther (which was better than under Jaguar. Now if only the same holds true for Leopard...)

  • Upgrade from ICM 6 to 7 (TR) -- Domain conversion tool / UMT

Hi, we are currently upgrading from 6 to 7.0 and subsequently to 7.5 (TR, new hardware, new domain, new instance).  So far we've staged our W2k3 domain and all the other soon to be ICM servers.
I'm currently trying to migrate the domain users and it tells me that I need to use the Domain Conversion Tool to go migrate the domain users from 6 to 7. (Staging guide chpter 4)
I can't find any documentation on the Domain Conversion Tool, when I run the executable I can see the different triggers (below) but that's it.
I've done an export and gotten a file but what next?
Do I do a convert now?
is the convert going to change my production database?
I'm also reading that the Domain Conversion Tool was replaced by the UMT (for 7.0 to 7.+).
Or should I now use the UMT and point it to my export file?
Im afraid to run the convert and and messing up my Rogger sideA database?
    Has anybody use this tool?
any tips and or documentation is appreciated.  Thanks
    D:\ciscoutils\domainCnvTool>domcvt
The syntax of this command is:
    DomCvt.exe /DB:dbname /F:filename /M:mode [/OD:old domain name]
              [/ND:new domain name][/P:password]
/DB:dbname           Specifies the database name to operate on (e.g. cust1_sideA)
/F:filename          Specifies the full path of the file to import or export to
/M:mode              Indicates export mode or convert mode
                             E  Export mode
                             C  Convert mode
The following switches are only needed in Convert Mode:
/OD:old domain name  Specifies the old domain name to convert from in NetBIOS form (e.g. MyDomain)
/ND:new domain name  Specifies the new domain name to convert to in NetBIOS form (e.g. MyDomain) or DNS form (e.g. MyDomain.mycompany.com)
/P:password          Specifies the default password to be set for all the users in the new domain
Use quotation marks when there are spaces in the file name or password

    Hi,
    From the 7.x(y) Staging Guide:
Common Steps Required before Migrating any ICM ComponentOn the Domain Controllers:
Confirm that Domain Controllers have been upgraded from NT Domain to Windows 2000Active DirectoryOn the CallRouter Server:
     \RouterA\Router\CurrentVersion\Configuration\Global\DBMaintenance.
    Note:
If moving a CICM with SideA and SideB disable the Configuration changes on bothsides.
    On the Logger server:
Copy the Domain Conversion Tool (DomCvt.exe) from the ICM 5.0(0) or ICM 6.0(0) Third-PartyTools CD as applicable (Domain Conversion Utility folder) onto the Logger server.
Export the ICM user list using the DomCvt tool using the following command:
    domcvt /DB:<instancename>_sideA /F:c:\DomConvert\userlist.txt /M:E.
And then lower down in the guide:
    On the Logger server:
    Step 18
Run the Domain Conversion Tool to convert the ICM users exported earlier, using the followingcommand:
domcvt /DB: <instance_name>_sideA /F:c:\DomConvert\userlist.txt /M:C /OD:<old_domain_netbios_name> /ND: <new_domain_netbios_name>Note: You can use the /p option to create a global password. If you do not use the /p option, the password is reset to null.
I'm looking to run this myself shortly. The only caveat with this info is that its extracted from the section related to ICM5 and migration from multiple to single forest ... so possibly not the correct info. However, there's not much documentation on this as you've seen!

  • Invoice Receipt Warning Message Appear After Upgrade from 4.6C to ECC6

    Hi Gurus,
We do upgrade from 4.6C to ECC6. And we do Invoice Verification base on Delivery (Vendor delivery number), in our business process there more than one Purchase Order has same Vendor Delivery Number while GR executed. But only one Purchase order related to Invoice verification, others PO are Free PO (no need Invoice Verification).
    The problem is:
In SAP 4.6C, while execute Invoice base on Delivery (Vendor delivery), system automatic select only PO with Delivery (vendor) which related/allow invoice receipt.
In SAP ECC6, while execute Invoice base on Delivery (vendor delivery), all PO selected. So than there are warning messages appear (warning pop screen) for those PO not allow invoice Receipt (message M8035: PO item XXXXX does not allow invoice receipt), and at the end PO which allow Invoice receipt then appear for further Invoice Receipt process.
At overall, the final result SAP 4.6C and SAP ECC6 is same (only PO which allowed Invoice Receipt will processed further).
    The Question are:
    1. Why in ECC6 appear warning message, while in 4.6C no warning message ? Is there config to ignoring the warning message. I've try to maintain system message for M8035 (t-code: OMRM) to ignoring the pop screen, but can not created.
    2. How do we make warning message dissapear (no need warning message), because if the PO's has hundred items so user need to click enter hundred times.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tri Wicaksono

    Hi,
could you please check whether the flag "GR-based IV" is set in the purchase orders?
If GR based-IV is ticked, then this pop-up cannot be suppressed.
If you would like to post the invoice first then GR-based IV should not be checked, otherwise this pop-up will always appear.  I am afraid that this behaviour is standard.
Please, be aware that this feature is only available if you set  in the Purchase Order item the 'GR-based IV' indicator:
If the GR-IV flag is not set in the PO, then the system does not
differentiate individual goods receipts. Please see the <f1> help
for the field "GR-IV" in the PO item detail. Since the individual
receipts are not differentiated, an invoice is not tied per se to
an individual receipt and a goods receipt can be reversed despite
       an invoice receipt.
With the GR-IV flag set on in a PO, you can specify which goods
receipt is being invoiced in an IR and which goods receipt is being
reversed in a return. It is this correlation between goods receipts
and invoices that enables you to specify for GR-IV PO's whether an
item can be returned despite an invoice.
Please refer to the note :457511 Question 10.
    Best regards

  • Trouble upgrading from PSE 3.0 to PSE 8.0

I'm getting an unusable format of my ver 8.0 when upgrading from ver 3.0. My 3.0 PHOTO browser is OK but my 3.0 FILE browser is a mess because I moved many files by "getting" pictures and "deleting from catalog" rather than using the FILE browser in Editor. Does ver 8.0 look at the PHOTO browser or the FILE browser when installing. If this is the problem, is there a way to re-initialize or update the ver 3.0 file browser before I install ver 8.0. I'm using Windows XP SP3. I'll appreciate any help. I'm stuck.

I have used Windows Explorer to managemy directories and files for some time. Last night while trying to get a handle on what was happening I found two troubling things. First, adding or deleting categories and sub-categories in PSE 3 Organizer does not add or delete them in the Editor File Browser. Not having used the File Editor for some time I never discovered this. I'm sure that somewhere, early on in my use of PSE 3, I found information that lead me to believed that the two browsers held the same information.
The second thing has also escaped me for some time because I ignored the File Browser. There was a second copy of the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder in the File Browser. These were relics from a long time ago when I had placed shortcuts to both the Documents folder and the My Pictures folder on my desktop because it made it easier to access them. As I grew more familiar with using the program I realized that a shortcut to Windows Explorer was all I needed. So, I sent both the Documents and Pictures shortcuts to the Recycle bin. That, of course, as I found with Categories and Sub-categories, did not remove the short cuts from the File Browser. I was not aware that the shortcuts were still in the File Browser. All of this simply means that when I tried to upgrade to PSE 8 it was confused. When I removed PSE 8 after the bad install things got more scrambled.
I have removed the second copies of Documents and Pictures and am now starting on the, I'm afraid, long process of getting my files in order. It's clear to me why the two browsers didn't agree. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

  • Will I loose my projects (7 books to print of 265 pages each which mean a lot of work) if I upgrade from iPhoto 7 to latest version ?

I'm on OSX 10.7.5. I have worked over 2 years on 7 books of 265 pages to print via iPhoto 7. Now that I'm ready to print them… it says that I need a newer version. I'm really afraid to upgrade, because I don't want to loose everything. If I upgrade to Photo will my projects be affect ?
    Thanks a lot !

Personally, I would also make an independent back up, just in case:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

    Hi Nicole,
First of all I am afraid that I am not an expert in this area. My impression is that the HTTP destination type is created on the receiver side (i.e. BW). If that is the case, then I think t/code SM59 is the right place where you can also create other connection types than ABAP (please refer to paragraph 4.1 of the document which was mentioned in the other discussion).
However, I suggest to involve a basis/system administrator and if possible also an XI consultant to come to a solution. My gut feeling says that it's a connection problem which has to be solved in either the BW system, XI system or in both systems.
    Best regards,
    Sander

  • Upgrade from 10.4.11 to leopard on White 24"intel iMac?

I am totally new to MACs and purchased a white Intel iMac for my daughter. It came with a Leopard upgrade or install disc. What is the preferred method to upgrade the system? I have nothing in data at all, its brand new. Should I just do the upgrade from the disc, or an erase and install or archive and install?
For example, does leopard work better with a fresh install or does it make no difference compared with an upgrade install? Any help appreciated. I am afraid to put leopard on it because it works great now and starts up in a unbelievable 15 seconds from power on to cruise-in the net.

In your case you must do an Upgrade install as that is the only option for an Upgrade disc. I would do the following:
    First,
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
Next, continue with Leopard upgrade and follow the instructions provided.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger and Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Too Afraid To Upgrade!

So what's the deal with all of these Apple commercials about how, +"it just works,"+ when I read endless posts about how Leopard seems to be bottoming out a whole bunch of savvy Mac users with the latest hardware to boot (pun intended)?
I mean the poor Vista guy getting castigated by the pretty OS guru while Mr. Leopard (Drew Barrymore's boyfriend) there is just cruising along with no mention about all of the incompatibilities and other issues that seem to be plaguing Mac user after Mac user after running the upgrade, is just the latest disavowal by the Apple marketing people of some real problems that are going on with this latest release.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for creative marketing campaigns and Apple has some of the best, starting with the 1984 Orwellian commercial that started the whole phenomenon. But after reading post after post about how Leopard is causing all kinds of problems -- especially with users who have similar hardware as mine -- I'm left with a sense of being: Too Afraid To Upgrade.
I purchased a retail copy of Leopard just after it came out in Nov. of '07, and was expecting to throw on the upgrade like I've done in the past (both client and server versions) and watch it do its thing and get rolling with a new and improved "hot" OS on my bad a*s MacBook Pro. And like a diligent former UNIX Sys Admin and a former member of the Apple Consultants Network, I did a lot of reading up first before the upgrade was to commence and that's what stopped me "butt cold."
I mean when you're reading things like the user accounts no longer have administrative permissions after the upgrade, or the built-in Airport stops working with 802.11g wireless networks, or all kinds of software including Parallels (which is what I've got running on my system) tank or stop functioning, and let's not forget peripherals stop working after the we come up to Leopard, that's just freaks me out.
Also, all of the extraneous ways proposed by very learned users on how to upgrade that involve the old archive and install, clean install, or even the more radical target disk install, seem to me to *totally defeat* the "it just works" slogan and years of simple and easy upgrades that I've been doing since System 7.6! Even going from 9.2.2 to OS X was a snap on my old G4 500MHz AGP Sawtooth. Actually, I've thrown a number of upgrades and wacky configurations on that system including bumping it up to OS X Panther Server which runs just fine (except for the known USB 2.0 upgrade card/sleep issue that is intermittent and I've learned to live with).
So why is Leopard totally "off the rails" here? And more importantly for me, what the h*ll do I do now?
I really don't want to go the archive and install route because that would entail reinstalling a ton of my software (fully licensed), and trying to get Windows XP/Parallels back on there and hope the Microsoft activation protection doesn't kill my reinstall. Also, I really don't have the darn time to spend a whole weekend trying to get both mine and my wife's user accounts back to the same state as they were with Tiger before the upgrade. Sure backing up is fine with me and I'm hoping that Apple's backup software will do the trick, but going the +"whole nine yards"+ with the thing seems a little too excessive for me; I'm not that 30 year old Mac guru I used to be, I'm in my forties now and I just want the thing to work, you know? Which is why I'm all about Apple and the Mac to begin with.
So are there any success stories out there? Or is Justin Long and Steve Jobs pulling my leg?
My other question is, if I go "commando" and say "forget it" and just slap on that upgrade, and then attempt to pump it up from 10.5.0 (which is the retail DVD that I got, like most people) to 10.5.2, am I just fooling myself into thinking that all will be well and when the computer restarts I won't get the evil WINDOWS Blue Screen Of Death?
What should I do? Just wait for 10.5.3? or, wait for OS X Lion (if that's what they're going to call it)? Should I just use the DVD of 10.5.0 for a coaster? Should I let the geniuses at the Apple Store handle this one for me at a cost that I shouldn't have to pay over and above buying the software? I've been in the Mac game for many years and always come to this discussion board first when I need answers and I usually find them (and have given a few of my own); however, this time I'm at a total loss and am +stopped dead in my tracks+ before I've even begun.
    _You all scared me!_
I need some reassurance that upgrading to Leopard is worth it and that I can do it without having to rebuild my whole system.
As Pink Floyd once said, "is there anybody out there?"
    Thanks a bunch,
    Nick from Boston

Nick, I see you're running OS X 10.4.11. Working OK for you I assume? Try going back at least a year in the forum posts and you will see the very same posts about the very same problems in the version of OS X you are running now. Go back farther and you will the very same posts about the very same issues for EVERY version of OS X that was ever released. Some people have issues with anything they attempt to do and they post here about it for help. Think about it for a second. If Leopard were really "off the rails" you wouldn't be able to login to this forum because it would be overloaded.
Apple's commercials are indeed correct. Macs "just work" for 99% of users. You know all the voodoo people post abut here? Repair permissions, don't do an upgrade, do an archive/install instead, do this, don't do that? Most of it is pure baloney. My Mac shipped with OS X 10.3.6 in 2004 and I have applied every single update, every patch, every security update since then. I installed OS X 10.4 Tiger right over the top of 10.3 with no issues what-so-ever and have applied all patched and updates since then. This past weekend I installed OS X 10.5 right over the top of 10.3 and 10.4. Then I applied ALL of the updates since then in one massive Software Update session. I came up on a fully patched Leopard installation without ANY issues. I can even type upper case letters in Google Mail (which some people claim was broken by the latest security update. It wasn't).
Luck? Not hardly. Those of us who seem never to have many problems or issues have several things in common. We know precisely what we have installed on our systems at all times. We tend to stay away from most of the little add-on "thingies" that are supposed to enhance OS X because we know they almost always break when a new update comes out. And most importantly we do our homework before applying any update. We check to make sure our hardware and software is in absolutely perfect condition. We make backups. We check with third party developers.
Yes, if you took to heart all the wailing and gnashing of teeth around here you'd be afraid to update anything. Most of the heartache is self-inflicted however. Know what you have going on before you upgrade and you will not have a problem. Trust those who know.

  • Upgrade from CS3 to CS5

Hi, this is my first post here. I just successfully installed CS5. It was an upgrade from CS3 Extended. I notice that CS3 is still on my drive and would like to remove it to free up hard drive space. Should I insert the CS3 disc and look for a uninstaller or just drag all the CS3 items to the trash? I am a little hesitant to use the uninstaller route because I am afraid that it may remove something that CS5 needs. Any ideas?
    jmbriet

I assume you already have the upgrade license working and are not seeing prompts for CS3 serial numbers. If so, it is safer to use the CS3 uninstaller, if any. Keeping a restore image before doing that is safer still

  • Upgrading from Academic

First, I know you're not supposed to be able to upgrade from academic. However, I've looked at the FCS pages on the website and the Apple Store online and can't find any information that says you can't. Is it possible Apple is allowing upgrading from academic to retail with FCS3?
If no one is 100% sure and there isn't any information online about it, do you think I'd be able to return the upgrade if I wanted to try it and it didn't work? Especially since there's nothing anywhere that actually says you can't. That way I can purchase the full version.
If not, I have this situation, and this may be a dumb question....
A very long time ago, probably about 8 or 9 years, I purchased Final Cut Pro 1.something or 2. I believe this was purchased at an academic price, but I was given a full retail version. The problem is it's nowhere to be found. I probably tossed it when I moved a some years back figuring I'd never need it again (big mistake). Does Apple keep a record of these purchases/registrations? Is there a department I can contact at Apple to find out what my serial number was so I can upgrade from that older version I had?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mike
afraid you can't upgade and is is documented on the FCP update page at the apple store.
    +*About the Upgrade+
+The Final Cut Studio upgrade provides an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 2, Final Cut Studio 1, Production Suite, or any prior version of Final Cut Pro. Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for upgrade.+

If you have an academic serial no. then the installer will know.
sorry not the news your after i guess

  • Planning upgrading from t3i

Hey guys!So I've had my t3i for a while and I think I'm hitting the limitations in the t3i in terms of what I'm doing now. I've had the camera for about 1-2 years (was given to me as a xmas gift) and up until now, I've done automotive photography, nature photography, as well as portrait photography. I thought that the T3i was already a good enough camera for me to suit my needs but I realized I might need more now but I'm not sure. One night, I was doing rolling shots with a few buddies of mine and noticed in post processing, that there was a ton of grain in most of the pictures if I turned up the shadows (was shooting in betwen 1/10-1/20th of a second at F8.0 at 3200ISO. What are the benefits of upgrading from a T3i or do I just need a better lens? I was thinking of going to either a T4i or a T5i but at the same time, I want to go for a full frame sensored camera but I don't know if the types of photography I'm doing right now require such an advanced camera such as the 5D MkII  or if the t4i/t5i will be good enough. Also, do the lenses for the T3i work for the 5D MKII or do I have to purchase new lenses for it? I'm guessing the lenses for the T3i are compatible with the T4i and the T5i. Thanks!

If you "turned up the shadows" on these, they were heavily underexposed... which is pretty much guaranteed to make for a ton of noise as soon as you turn it up in post processing. SHOOT RAW AND AVOID UNDEREXPOSURE LIKE THE PLAGUE. To me your sample shots still look a bit underexposed (nore on that in a moment). In fact, it's often better to overexposure your images a little... I use +1/3 stop for 3200 and +2/3 stop for 6400... then pull the image brightness back down in post processing. This minimizes noise, rather than amplifying it. I hope you don't mind... I took one of your images into Photoshop, lightened it a lot and increased the contrast... then applied Noiseware noise reduction (same "formula" that I use with my 7Ds when shooting at ISO 3200)... then resharpened the image a bit. Normally sharpening will really increase the appearance of noise, which is why I didn't do any more until after applying NR. It improved quite a bit, I think. But would have been even better working from an original, full size RAW file that had not been so heavily underexposed. I also fooled around with the color balance a little.... But there are mixed types of light in the image so, I didn't go to far with this. If it were my image and I were spending more time optimizing it, I'd do a color balance on the main subject and foreground, then adjust the background separately. Anyway, here's the result...   Regarding underexposure... Do you have your computer monitor calibrated? The reason I ask is that most monitors are way too bright to work with photographs, leading you to make too dark images, to the point you don't realize how much you are underexposing them when shot. The first step in calibration is setting the monitor's brightness. When I first got my current monitor 3 or 4 years ago, I had to set it down to about 20% brightness for accurate prints.  Now, after several years use I still have to turn it down to about 50% or my prints and images posted online end up way too dark. I am afraid you might be disappointed with a new camera if you don't resolve some other things first. Don't blame the gear! As it is, you likely aren't getting anywhere close to the best possible high ISO shots out of the camera you've got now. ***********

  • Afraid to upgrade to 8.02

    Hi,
I have many programs in which I have had dreamweaver create a
recordset as below. You'll notice that I comment out the line that
begins RsTrans.Souurce and use it for a model for my own sql
statement to use as a replacement.
Does anyone know what will happen if I install 8.02 and try
to work on such a file?
    <%
    Dim RsTrans
    Dim RsTrans_numRows
    Set RsTrans = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    RsTrans.ActiveConnection = MM_locbookdata_STRING
    'RsTrans.Source = "SELECT * FROM dbo.Transactions WHERE
    Adsize <> 'Credit' AND Book = '" +
    Replace(RsTrans__MMColParam, "'", "''") + "' ORDER BY Price DESC,
SaleType ASC" THIS LINE COMMENTED OUT AND REPLACE WITH LINE BELOW
    RsTrans.Source = "SELECT * FROM dbo.Transactions WHERE Adsize
    <> 'Credit' AND " & Filter1 & Filter2 & Filter3
    & " ORDER BY" & Sor1 & Sor2 & Sor3
    RsTrans.CursorType = 0
    RsTrans.CursorLocation = 2
    RsTrans.LockType = 1
    RsTrans.Open()
    RsTrans_numRows = 0
    %>
Here's an example of "Filterx" that comes earlier in the
    program
    If (Request.Form("Book") <> "") Then
    Filter1= " Book = " & chr(39) & Request.Form("Book")
    & chr(39)
    End If
I'm afraid I'll get all confused if 8.02 starts rewriting the
recordset, but I know at some point I'll need to upgrade to 9.0
Thanks for any suggestions as to what will happen.
    Shelly

Why are you afraid to upgrade to 8.02?
Be sure to have all sites backed up before proceed to
    upgrade.

  • Do i have to upgrade from version 10.6.8 to use icloud on my mac book air?

do i have to upgrade from version 10.6.8 to use icloud on my mac book air?

I'm afraid so. The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
