After Effects 3D Transformation Stack Values and Javascript

Is there any way to get the final computed values for a layer's position, rotation, and scale in global space through the Javascript interface?
That would include all parent rotation, translations, scales, and orientation changes. Basically, whatever is at the end of the 3D transform matrix stack.

Hi!
One solution would be to get the xyz value of pointTopLeft, pointTopRight, pointBottomRight via expression :
TL = toWorld([0,0,0]);
TR = toWorld([width,0,0]);
BR = toWorld([0,height,0]);
and then use the "AVLayer calculateTransformFromPoints()" method (see aftereffects_scripting_guide for details).

Hello. Basically I can create a new comp that is set to 1920 x 1080, @ 30 frames per second for 1 minute TRT. I create a new solid layer, say red. I hit space bar or play on the screen, and it does not play in real time. ITs on my Imac as well. same OS and Same Version software.

Well, before you hit the panic button, why don't you tell us precisely what you're doing when AE plays at 17fps -- the keys you hit, the buttons you click to begin play.

My after effects 2014 is crashing again and again after applying any effect
my laptop config. is as follow
Model alienware 17x r4
i7 extreme edition
16gb ram
1.5tb hard disk
2gb nvidia 660
windows 8.1
Pls.....help its urgent

Update your graphics driver. Anything beyond that would require much more info about your project settings, footage used and whatnot.

File size changing when pass through after effects (180Mb file goes in and comes out 33GB on export)

im processing a video recorded of an interview where the lighting was not very good on the interviewee
im brightening up the light on the interviewees face
the file was a 180Mb H.264 file on import
when i export the file its coming out at 33GB in size.... im not sure why this is
i have chosen the default setting "lossless" as the format for export
i just want the file to export the same size and quality as it was when i imported it
what options should i choose for this? AE does not seem to tell me how big the end file will be and it takes 1 hour and half to process this 2 minute interview so it will take me an awfull long time to get to the bottom of this if i try by myself

It doesn't "increase" the file size. You're making a brand new file.
What you put into After Effects has nothing to do with the resulting file. You can have an AE composition with no footage whatsoever and the resulting file will be much larger than 0!
After Effects works internally with completely uncompressed pixel data, so no matter what you toss into it, it produces whatever you tell it to produce. As Mylenium points out, you made an uncompressed final file.
Your original video file is VERY compressed. So, of COURSE uncompressed video is going to look massive by comparison.

After Effects CS6 fails to render and I dont know why?

I'm fairly new with After Effects and my problem is that when I am trying to render my movie, it fails to render at the exact same point every time. The point where it fails is when my 1st video is transitioning to my 2nd video in the movie. And when I try to RAM preview my movie, it wont render parts where one video transitions to another video. Earlier today there was an error coming up saying that frames could not render simultaneously and that I needed to fix my multiprocessing settings. In After Effects, it says NOT Realtime and the video is really slow

I'm editing a clip in after effects and the video preview is really slow. I also says in the preview section, "NOT realtime".

How, exactly, are you initiating the preview? Are you using RAM preview?

After Effects 12.0 cannot drag and drop files into it?

I click to download After Effects, Creative Cloud pops up and says it's up to date but I can't find it anywhere on my macbook?

I've searched my entire Mac and can not find After Effects anywhere. So I go to download it. When I click download, my Creative Cloud opens up and next to After Effects it says up to date.

So, I fixed my own problem. Anyone else having the same problem follow these steps, they helped me.

Hello! For a while i thought you could not use Adobe after effects with Final express...but i was wondering again if i can use it, and if i can, how do i use it with FCE?? Thanks!

Well after AE, i can continue editing it in final cut? Or once i use it in AE, it is too late to put the sequence or scene back into FCE?
I guess an example would be that if i just want one scene or one sequence from final cut to be used in AE, i would export that sequence as a QT movie? Then how do i put it back into Final Cut once it is done with AE?

After Effects, Final Cut Pro HD, and QuickTime 7

Hello friends,
I just wanted to point out a problem I have experienced with QuickTime 7 when using After Effects and Final Cut Pro HD. If this has already been covered by someone else on the forum, please forgive my unnecessary post.
I am used to working in AE 6.5 and FCP 4.5 and exporting/importing QT files between the two programs.
After I downloaded QT 7 (Pro version) with iTunes 6, I discovered that when I export an AE 6.5 clip using the "Export-->QuickTime Movie" menu option, I cannot open the QT file in FCP 4.5. FCP 4.5 tells me that it does not recognize the file. (However, when I use AE's "Export-->DV Stream" option, FCP 4.5 will recognize the file, but it has to render the clip.)
I decided to reinstall QT 6.5.2 (Pro version), and after that everything worked fine (I re-exported the movie using AE's "QuickTime Movie" option, and I was able to open the file in FCP 4.5 with no problems).
Have any of you experienced this problem, or something similar? Do you suppose this is something Adobe might address with a software patch? Or Apple?

P.S. I downloaded all of the QT 7 patches that Apple released, including the recent QT 7.0.4 and encountered the same problem with AE & FCP every time. This is a problem, of course, because if I choose to stick with QT 6, I will be unable to enjoy the new videos offered at the iTunes 6 store.

Thank you for your reply. Honestly, I am really new to AE, so I am not very familiar with the render queue. When I had QuickTime 6, I would just use the "Export-->QuickTime Movie" menu and then open that file up in FCP. This was a fast and easy process for me. But now, after installing QT 7, I cannot do that, because FCP can no longer read the "QuickTime Movie" file I export from AE.
I will look up some more information on the AE render queue and try using that. Thank you for the tip.

Always glad to do these. I printed the previous survey from 2007(?) and it's interesting to see what features are now included in CS4, which ones are still to be included, and which ones have been completely forgotten.

I've installed the full version of After Effects, but codecs like MPEG2 and MPEG2-DVD are still miss

The title kind of explains it. I've installed Master Collection CS5.5 as a full version, but After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder are still missing the protected content. I've rebooted and updated, and rebooted again. I've installed as a trial and then entered the serial number later, and I've also tried using the serial number during the install. It seems no matter what combination I try, I can't get MPEG2 to show up in the export list.

I’m having this same issue- it’s not crashing constantly but definitely freezes or chugs slowly along.

Hmmm.
This thread seemed to find a solution, but you're not going to like it...
I'd recommend being as aggressive as you can with other solutions first, such as fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications on the off chance that they help.
This thread on App Nap causing issues would also be worth a look.

After Effects CC 2014 RAM preferences and performance problem

I have a RAM issue with AE CC 2014.
Soon after updating, I began receiving errors that there was not enough RAM for other applications. I checked the preferences, and sure enough “RAM reserved for other applications:” was set to 0. I then changed it to 6G (out of 16) and restarted the application.
Upon checking the preferences again, the preference was set back to 0. I changed it back to 6, OKd it, then went back into preferences immediately to see if the change took and it did still say 6.
But every time I restart the application it chances itself back to 0!
So I did an experiment to see if AE CC (pre 2014) did the same thing. It’s preferences were set to 3G, so I changed it to 6G for continuity, restarted the application and it stayed at 6.
BUT THEN, I found that if I open AE CC 2014 it not only changes its own preference back to 0 but it changes AE CC back to 3!
In a nutshell AE CC 2014 will change the RAM preferences of both itself and AE CC when it launches, back to a prior RAM amount (default?). In the case of itself: 0G of RAM. In the case of AE CC: 3G of RAM.
Also another problem, which I assume for now is connected, AE CC 2014 will slow to an unusable crawl after about 5 minutes of using it. With no exaggeration, in only bounding box view mode, it would take 6-10 seconds to rotate a single solid a few degrees.
Restarting the application, which takes a good 7 minutes, gives about 5 more minutes of work before crawling again. I’ve changed cache disks as well as stopping to use a disk cache completely with no change.

After contacting tech support, it turned out to be a preferences permissions problem.
We made sure that in the preferences folder, the Adobe folder had each administrator listed, and each administrator name was set to 'Read & Write'. From there applied that info to 'all enclosed items' and it solved the problem.
