After installing Lion, sharing my USB internet connection no longer works on my iPhone4.

I have a USB internet device and have been able to share that connection with my iPhone without problem, until installing Lion.  I searched the web, and someone suggested changing my encryption to 128, which I did.  For a few hours that worked, but now it's not giving me a decent connection.  Anyone know why and what the solution is?  Thanks.

I am having the same problem.  It worked fine (connecting my iOS devices to my macbook pro using internet sharing) until Lion.  Then it all went to ****.

  • After installing Lion on a 2007 iMac, audio no longer works.

All the audio options in System Preferences are greyed out. Message says no audio devices are detected. It's as if Lion can't see them. How do I restore audio?

I am not sure any Mac every had a sound for plugging/unplugging USB devices.
You may be right. It's only on Windows that the sound is created and heard.
I know that since Tiger on this MBP, when I plug in my external scanner, I never heard anything.
And plugging in my Blu-Ray recorder also does not make any sounds.
I cannot speak for anything but my Mac laptops, however. Desktop Macs might make a sound.

  • TC 2 TB A1409 Wan internet connection no longer working but light is still green?

TC 2 TB A1409 Wan internet connection no longer working but light is still green?
My TC and modem have been up and running for at least the last 2 years without any issues.
It recently started acting up and I would have restart it as I had no internet access. All of a sudden My TC stopped connecting to internet regardless of restart. Utility shows i have no internet connection. I had all the correct green lights on my modem. I figured it might be the modem and connected directly to single ethernet port in modem to my mac book and it worked. When I reconnect modem to TC and restart Modem, TC still shows no internet connection in utility even though I'm getting green sync light on TC.
    Help Please.
I'm out of warranty, I have not reset to default yet, Im not sure if I will loose my TC back up data.
    please advice

The Gen4 has some nasty faults.. mostly unrepairable...
If the WAN is gone it becomes pretty well useless at least in its current role as router.
You might still be able to plug it in by ethernet to a LAN port in bridge.
Do try a full factory reset.. always worth a go.
No files will be lost on the hard disk.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Check the ethernet LED is going on.. both on the modem and the TC WAN port.
Do you have any applecare on a computer? If so it might cover the TC.. the rules are complicated but if the TC was bought within 2years before or after the computer it is covered up to max of 3years. You can still get coverage therefore if the TC is over 1 year but less than 2 years by buying applecare now on a computer or an Apple TV which is not too expensive. You can sell off the Apple TV without even opening it.. but use the applecare on it to get your TC replaced.
Only the very first Gen4 will be up to 3years.
Did you have a lightning storm or something btw?? Sometimes the modem can survive and pass the parcel to the TC which seems rather fragile.
There is also a trick to test..
You must have v5 airport utility.. any older Macs, or windows computer you can load on 5.6 utility .. even dual boot/parallels mac.
Go to the WAN setup.. and set the ethernet port to 10mbit half duplex.
Sometimes a damaged port can still manage the slowest speed.. by magic.

After installing Lion, scrolling with an Apple mouse up and down does not work. Horizontal scrolling does work.

Hi guys. First, check the scroll outside of Firefox. Is it working?
    Second,
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences'''<Enter> in the address bar
    Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • Laptop internet connection no longer works after adding Time Capsule to network

The other day I was setting up my Time Capsule for the first time at my new apartment (after having it in a box for months). I've got internet access through my apartment, so I haven't needed to use it as a router like I did the last time I used it. Also, the router is in another tenant's room. So I opened Airport Utility and adjusted the settings to add the Time Capsule to the network. After doing this, my laptop has lost its Internet connection. I can still connect to the network and my iPad has had no issues connecting to the same network and using the Internet, but the Internet won't work on my MacBook Pro (2006 model).
Since then, I've plugged an ethernet cable between my laptop and Time Capsule so I could find it on Airport Utility and change its settings to connect to the laptop via Ethernet. Also, I called my landlord and got the router reset.
I know the Time Capsule/Airport Utility is involved because the Internet connection died as soon as I tried adding my Time Capsule to the network.
    Any suggestions?

  • After Installing iTunes 7.0.2 iPod Updater No Longer Works

So I installed iTunes 7.0.2 which seems to be running fine (although my Shuffle playlist seems to have disappeared!), but if I try launching the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 I get a message saying "iPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close" everytime I launch it. No idea why I'm getting this..any suggestions?

The iPod Updaters are not required (and will not work) after updating to iTunes 7. If everything else is working normally on your computer, then all you need to update and sync content to any iPod is iTunes 7 and a network connection. So yes, you can remove all the older updaters.

  • After installing PS CS6, PS CS5 Type tool no longer works

After doing the basic installation of PS CS6 Beta, opening and closing 1 file as well as closing the CS6 Beta program then returning to PS CS5, I can no longer make editable text fields, or edit existing text fields in any document - new or old.
Error message when trying to edit an existing text field (clicking inside the text): "Could not complete your request because of a program error"
Error message when trying to create a new text filed (using the type tool clicking and dragging on the canvas):  "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initalized"
CS6 must be doing something to previous versions of CS5, need this fixed asap - people still need CS5 to work!

The type tool in my PS CS5.1 no longer works. And i'm nervously clueless as to why it suddenly quite working. All other Adobe, and non-Adobe, apps appear to be working as needed, but Photoshop has suddenly decided to go rogue from the font set.
    System Mac OS X 10.7.3
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
3rd Party Font Handling software: FontExplorer X Pro 3.1.1
I'm seeing the same "Could not complete your request due to program error" message upon launch of Photoshop and when attempting to use the Type tool.
Have ran the font test, as recommended in this discussion thread, and was alarmed to see the test results reveling that all 137 of 137 fonts are supposedly bunk. How can this be?
Any thoughts, tips, help would be uber appreciated,

  • After installing Lion, my iomega ex. hard drive no longer recognized for time machine

Is all my back up gone? Lion does not see the iomega external hard drive. No more automatic backup? How can I restore to Leopard if Lion doesn't recogize the Iomega?

Thank you Jon for your reply.
I forgot to mention that I am actually in the process of becoming a certified apple portable hardware technician. Just started going through the training program.
I've taken many Apple computers apart and replaced most everything in them. I had to replace my original hard drive from Apple a few months ago after it was having serious problems.
I am familiar with DiskWarrior and such programs. But that's just the thing. The Hard drive is coming back with no errors and is working fine when attached to the iBook externally via Firewire.
I was thinking it has something to do with the logic board. But being I am not quite that advanced in my tech training I am unable to answer the problem on my own.

  • Comcast Internet connection no longer works with Airport Express

This is a little bit out of my depth, so I'm hoping that someone can help me.
I've been accessing Comcast High Speed Internet through my Airport Express connection for more than a year. Things were great until last week when my connection stopped working. The only way I'm able to access the internet is by connecting my iBook directly to the modem.
I tried resetting my Airport Express. I even did it manually so I could manually enter the DNS Servers and Domain Name. That worked for about two days, but now I'm back to where I need to connect directly to the modem.
Maybe there's something I'm not doing correctly. I'd appreciate any help I could get.

    gerasco, welcome to the discussions,
It sounds like you are doing everything right and the AirPort Express may be acting up.
Normally, you would reset this device by plugging it in and holding in the reset button until the amber light flashes rapidly.
This time, try a hard reset as follows:
    Unplug the AirPort Express
Hold in the reset button and CONTINUE to hold it in as you plug in back in to power
Release the reset button after approx 10 seconds.
Setup the Express again and see if that helps. If you continue to experience problems with the Express, it is likely that it will need to be replaced or repaired.
Please post back on your progress.

  • My internet connection no longer works

I'm a newbie as regards MACs. I have a MBP and it has been working OK on the internet. I have a Netgear DG814 router and a LAN connected with my PCs. Internet is OK on the PCs (I'm using one for this post).
It was OK on the MBP until I tried to set up WEP on the airport. It worked but, like everyone it appears, my connection kept dropping off.
So I went back to a wired connection. This used to work but now it doesn't. I can see all the PCs on the LAN from the MPB. I can see the MacBook from the PCs. I can connect to the router as administrator, from the MPB. It doesn't appear to be a DNS problem as I can connect to Apple by browsing to http://17.254.0.91 from Safari.
However, the page takes about an hour, or more, (this is not an overstatement) to be painted. It takes a matter of a couple of seconds to do the same thing from the PC!
I'm using fixed IP addresses on the LAN.
I used to know my way around Unix once upon a time, but that was 15 years ago! It's amazing how much you can forget in that length of time.
    Help . . . . what do I do ????
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hey Bob - check to see if UPnP is enabled in your router, and if so disable it.
I've now solved a half a dozen local 'erratic wireless' problems on MacBookPro's by disabling UPnP in our routers (all of them Linksys, for what it's worth). It may be that our problems are not your problems, but it's worth a shot.
[Other details: using a Core Duo MBP 1.83 in 10.4.8 via 802.11g, along with a bunch of other wired and wireless Macs, PCs, a Linux machine or two, and my Nokia 770; all auth via WPA2; WRT54GS v 2.2 firmware at 4.71.1; in each case, it appears the MBP's interaction with the router's UPnP was preventing regular communication with other devices on the network.]
Another suggestion: there is a MacOSX build of Ethereal floating around somewhere - it may be worth finding it, running it on your MBP to see what packets are hitting the interface. Given your explanation about extremely slow rendering, perhaps you have something on your network that's impairing throughput. In the same vein, you might google MenuMeters and install it for a constant display of throughput as it relates to you MBP (be sure to go into the settings for MenuMeters to enable each of the options it presents).

  • Internet Connection no longer working with WRT54G V3 Router

I have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP.  All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet.  No changes had been made to the router.
I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem.  That worked and I was able to access the internet.  However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.
I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting documention.  The lights that should be lit on the router are lit.  I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact.  I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail.  Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working.  My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.
What do I need to do?  Are there any other diagnostic tools available?  The Chat people won't help because I'm out-of-warranty.
    Solved!

Here's a trick on how to do the reset on the router.

  • After installing 4 add ons and restarting, firefox no longer works - help!

On my PC running Windows 7, I installed these 4 add ons: Measure it, Web Developer, Colorzilla, and Screenshot, restarting Firefox, and only the home page came up, none of my bookmarks were working. I had to manually type in a web address for anything to work. Then that stopped working too. I uninstalled all of the add ons mentioned, and restarted the computer. Now nothing works, only the browser comes up, but with an empty tab, the home page icon does not work either. HELP!

Well, what seemed to work was I uninstalled another add on I had that had to do with gaming and that seemed to do the trick. Wierd.
    Thanks anyways.
