After migrating to new mac, email folders are lost.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer files and data from my old MacBook Air to my new MacBook Air. Everything seems to have transferred just fine, except for my email folders. I have tried plugging in Time Machine to restore them from my backups on my old mac, but the new mac doesn't recognize backups on the old one, so I can't access it through Time Machine while in the mail program. So then I tried searching for my mail files, which (according to what I've read) should be in Library/Mail, but I have no Mail folder that I can find by that path (or, really, by any other). I believe both macs are running Mountain Lion.

That Library folder is actually the one in your home folder, which is hidden. You can view it by clicking the Go menu in Finder while holding the Option key down - you'll then see a shortcut to Library.
The mail is held in ~/Library/Mail/V2, inside folders named for each mail account. You should be able to use the File - Import Mailboxes menu in Mail to retrieve them.

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

The keyword is "migration." Migrating or copying files for Adobe applications usually does not work. Not all of the necessary subsidiary files are copied to the right location.

  • Time Machine consistency after migrating to new Mac

I have just migrated my Macbook Black to my new MacBook Silver, and I am away from my Time Machine backup. I have a new account name on my new MacBook Silver, so as to not cause any kind of disambiguation error. How do I continue with my Time Machine backup with my new machine? Is there some way of connecting the data on this new machine with the backup that was generated on the old machine?
    Thanks for your help.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I restored my new Mac with the Time Machine from the old Mac. Now I want to keep on using incremental. Why I can't?
Because it's a new and different Mac, and TM backs up Macs, not just drives, or files and folders. Besides, unless they're absolutely identical (same make & model of everything internal and external), there are different drivers, etc.
Also, I can't see that option of "Browse Other Time Machines".
From the TM icon in the menubar, where you normally see +Enter Time Machine+, if you press Option, you should see +Browse Other Time Machine Disks.+
My problem is, I didn't change any file since the old Mac in any file (except tiny changes), but now it tells me that in order to make a new back up it needs a lot more space than I have in the Time Machine. If I had the old Mac it would simply update an incremental...
If you'd done a complete restore on your old system, TM would make a complete, new, full backup. It may seem strange, but reloading a file is the same as changing it, as far as TM is concerned.
    Here's the scoop: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338
Think of it this way: TM backs-up everything, not just your "raw" data. Any change you make to a file or folder, even just moving it, means something changed, so TM backs it up.

  • Files not found after migration to new Mac

    Hi,
On my old Mac, under Snow Leopard, my installation was complete and everything worked fine.
Then, when I bought a new Mac (with Mountain Lion installed) I had to use Migration Assistant to restore my Time Machine Backup, which included my Logic Pro installation.
Now when I try to use Logic Pro I often get these "Audio file ... not found!" messages (see example).
    How can I fix this?
    Many thanks!

Thanks for the link! Instead of un-installing and re-installing everything, I noticed that in GarageBand (which I normally don't use) there was an update/additional download available. After doing it I noticed that this had fixed nearly all missing-audio-file-problems in Logic Pro: when checking for missing instruments by creating a new instruments project everything was complete again on 2 of our 4 Macs (pre 2012 models) -- on the other 2 Macs (late 2012 models) only the following 3 ( ! ) files are missing:
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/...
    .../Seventies Kit/DC Tit Hat 08.aif
          (of EXS24 Instrument "Seventies Kit.exs")
    .../Liverpool Bass/IL Btl Bass bomb 08.aif
          (of EXS24 Instrument "Liverpool Bass.exs")
    .../Steinway Grand Piano/Steinway Pedal V1/Stw ped v1 024.AIF
          (of EXS24 Instrument "Steinway Piano.exs")
So we copied the 3 missing files into the same directories on the 2 newer Macs, but it seems Logic doesn't "see" them and therefore still says that they are missing:
How can I help Logic to find these files?

  • After Migration to new Mac Pro, intermittent slow downs, SROD's

I started with a my intel mac mini, Leopard OS was installed on an external Firewire drive, most applications were installed on another partition of that same drive. I bought a new mac pro 8 core, and an additional firewire external drive that I set up as my Time Machine drive on my old mac mini. I did a full backup of my old mac mini system and then attached the time machine drive and the other external hard drive to my new mac pro. I used the migration assistant to transfer files to my new mac pro. However, now there appears to be something occuring between my internal mac pro hard drive and the old external hard drive from my mac mini. When using some applications, Itunes, Logic Pro, Firefox, the ap will hang and appears to be trying to access files from the old external drive. I hope I'm being clear with what the issue is. I'm thinking duplicate files on this external drive and my internal drive are causing some problems? I need to know how to repair the issue, and preserve my data files?

Thanks for your quick response. I know I've been somewhat confusing here. I'm running the latest Snow Leopard update on my mac pro now.
Then please update your profile, as it still shows the mini and Leopard.
And I'll ask a Host to move this to the Snow Leopard > Time Machine forum.
All the aps and data were migrated onto the internal HD in the mac pro, and the aps and files and directory structures, etc. are still also on the external drive that used to comprise the OS of my mac mini. I'm thinking that may be part of the issue, but I'm new to Mac and not certain of that or how to fix the issues.
Depending on how you did that, I'm not sure everything on those partitions got on to the new Mac's HD. Check that first, via the Finder.
Let's start with iTunes and/or iPhoto.
First see if you have the same stuff in both places. Use the Finder to see how large each is on the external HD, and compare that to the iTunes and iPhoto folders on your internal HD.
If they're not on your internal HD at all, use these instructions to move them:
    Moving your iTunes Music folder
    Moving your iPhoto library
If the versions on the external are newer than the ones on your internal, delete the ones on the internal and use those instructions to move from the external to the internal.
But don't delete the versions on the external just yet. Eject and disconnect it, and make sure everything's fine. It won't hurt to leave the data there for a while, especially as long as it's disconnected.
If the music or photos on your HD are the same, or newer, hold down the Option key while starting iTunes or iPhoto. That will give you a prompt where you can select which one you want to use.
Once you've selected the ones you want, eject and disconnect the external. Then use as many apps as you can, to see if everything works properly and all your data is found.
Without knowing what other apps you have, and how they work, I can't tell in advance whether any others will be looking for the external drive. If you get error messages, you'll have to deal with each app that seems lost.
I'd be inclined to keep the old external "on the shelf" for quite a while, just to be sure nothing got missed.
Have you started doing Time Machine backups of the new Mac yet? When you do, you'll get a prompt about whether to "re-use" the Mini's backups. See #B5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum. You probably want to select "Re-use," especially if there's a considerable amount of space on your TM drive.

  • Photoshop missing component after migration to new Mac

I have an iMac (new) running Mavericks. I used Migration Assistant to transfer all apps, data, etc. I use an old version of Photoshop (CS4). After the transfer, I get the following message when I try to open an image in Photoshop:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
Is there anyone else out there who might have a clue as to what is missing, can it be obtained somewhere, or is this a hopeless compatibility issue trying to run it on a new Mac with Mavericks? At a loss here, but I cannot, on my retirement income, afford to upgrade Photoshop.

Mike has you covered. In the future CS4 may be broken by an Apple OS upgrade. If that happens you might consider switching to Adobe's Photoshop Elements. It is missing some of the professional bells and whistles of CS but it runs about $100 and is very powerful. While I have and use CS5 I get PSE for my wife because its interface is somewhat easier to use and has guided edits that are very powerful and convenient. I often boot it up instead of PS when I want to perform a quick photo edit because the newest version has some editing tools my CS5 version doesn't.

  • Time Machine after migration to new Mac

So, I just got a new Mac, and used the option to copy settings and files from a Time Machine volume to the new machine. Now that everything's run, though, I can't use Time Machine to backup the new Mac -- it says "Volume not found". I've Googled a bit, but most of the troubleshooting seems to assume that the drive is missing or won't mount -- the drive is there, but the Time Machine software won't use it.
    What are my options here?

    Hi VK
    A supplementray question:
I have one i-mac happily backing up with Time Machine to an external hard drive.
I have just bought a second i-mac (stops the fighting!) and propose to use migration assistant to move my [admin] account from the old to the new i-mac leaving two other accounts on the old one. I see from your posts that it seems as if Time Machine will start a new back up series for the new i-mac's back ups. But what about the old i-mac? Will that continue to extend the existing Time Machine back up files, albeit without my transferred account and its files? If so, should I partition the external drive and start the new back ups from the new i-mac on this new partition. I'd like to end up with the old i-mac continuing to build its Time Machine back ups (less my account and its files) and have a new back up series from the new i-mac building to a separate partition on the external drive.
Does this make sense? I can't see an answer in the forum to what must be a reasonably common issue in this expandin mac world.

  • After migrating to new Mac Pro Dreamweaver won't launch, says missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

After migration to a new Mac Pro Dreamweaver CS6 won't launch. It says it is missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

    Hi rustyg12,
    Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
Fire up DW. See if it works.

  • Problem after migrating to new Mac

Hi, I changed my Mac from an iBook to a new Mac Mini running 10.8.2
I had Dreamweaver installed from the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium. Version 9.0 Build 3481
Dreamweaver was working fine before I migrated all my files on old Mac to the new one.
Now when I launch DW I get a window with a question mark & another saying what version & build I have.
When I "Get Info' on DW3 in my applications folder size is 298,696,470 bytes (302.4 MB on disk) for 249 items in case that helps.
I thought to re-install DW from my instal disc.
Dragged old version to trash, then read the readme in the installer & put it back in Applications.
I tried to use the un-installer as directed but when I enter my password in "Set up"it says "Required resources are missing."
I thought to try to intall over the old version but when I start to install I get the same "Required resources are missing." message.
(Photoshop from the same suite is working fine, also Adobe Acrobat.
I'd also like to try Fireworks now I have an Intel Mac.)
How to proceed to get going again with DW?
    plmk?
    Thanks.

Thanks Preran, I chatted using that chat box & was forwarded to the instilation team.
They sugested downloading the CS3 Design Premium software for a fresh start but the link they gave me wouldn't accept my login, maybe because I bought though a University who has an account there.
They told me:  CS3 hasn't been tested with Mountain Lion...
I tried launching Bridge & that worked OK.
I thought about trashing all the apps ...
    But I didn't
I tried putting in the intall disc & re-installing over the old version.
I just installed the 2 apps I had already installed & shared componets.
They( PS & DW) now seem to be working fine so far, didn't ask for any serial number at all.
Just had to delete & add browers again in DW.
    So seems to working OK.
If anyone is in same position I'm not sure if the clean tool is the way to go.
Mabe it helped in long run but at 1st it just made it so I couldn't use the apps. at all.
Thanks for being here, that did help.

  • Fusion VM (Windows) won't start after migration to new Mac

    Friends,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro, onto which I have migrated my old Mac.  I had Windows 7 installed as a VM on the old Mac, but when I try to start it on the new machine I get no response. Fusion starts and I see the black screen with the "PLAY" icon, but clicking on it does nothing.
Is this due to a change in my system's environmental variables? I know, for instance, that the name of the partition on the new MacBook is different to the name on the old Mac.  Where/how would I correct for this on the Mac or in Fusion?
    Thank you

Windows in VM is going to know it's on a different machine, so you'll still have to hop through Microsoft's hoops or you won't get updates.
Just an FYI: when moving a Fusion virtual machine, the first time you run the virtual machine, you are prompted if you "moved it" or "copied it".  Selecting "moved it" will retain the UUID and prevent Windows from prompting for reactivation.  (However, if it is a copy of the virtual machine and you wanted to run both copies simultaneously on the same network, you must select "copied it" otherwise the copies can't run at the same time.)
If one did select "copied it" accidentally, then just follow the reactivation prompts.  As long as you're not reactivating a lot then it usually will work the normal way over the internet.  Even if you're forced to call, just tell the support rep that you're reinstalling Windows and type in the really long code that they say.  The few times I've had to call, it was less than 15 minutes.  Again, as long as you're not reactivating a lot (so looking suspiciously like a pirate,) reactivation is a pain, but relatively quick.

  • Aperture asks for original serial number after migration to new MAC

After migrating my software and files from my iMac to a new Mac Mini. Aperture asks for serial number first time I wanted to use it. Will not accept the serial number from either my first, Aperture 2 version of my Aperture 3 upgrade. I believe I never had version 1 - can't find amongst my software collection. Website support doesn't seem to allow me to display the software dtails I have registered with Apple over the years. How can I get this information?

Try Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers and if that doesn't help see Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Apple support has been pretty good in the past suplying new serial numbers with the bare minimun of documentation.
    good luck
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - reading your post it is not clear but if this version of 3 is an upgrade from 2 you will need both serial numbers. First enter the serial number from version 2 then the number from 3

  • IPod behaviour after migration to new Mac

Hi. I recently bought a new Mac (I'm typing from an old one!) and used the Migration Assistant to move my account from a machine a work. I then copied the music files from this home machine to the new machine. Finally I exported the library from this machine and imported it onto the new machine. (I wanted to merge some of the account functions of my home and work machines on the new machine).
My problem is that both this machine at home and the new machine want to sync the iPod but are now not quite in sync (e.g. ratings, play counts, LastFM scrobbles, etc.) and this causes some hassle. I basically want to automatically sync with the new machine and for the old machine to ignore the iPod. However if I set the iPod to manual management on this old machine, the setting is also seen on the new machine. Is there some way round this?..
The third machine (the one at work) behaves differently - it sees it as synced to a different machine and so gives the dialog asking what to do. I think therefore a more specific question is can I make the iTunes settings on the new machine and the old home machine look like -different- machines? I'm happy to delve into the library XML if need be.
(All three machines are authorised to my iTunes Store account but I don't think this matters)
    Thanks,
    Jeremy Morley

You can always switch the iPod to manually manage for connecting up to the other two computer then when you connect back to the main computer where you master library is, switch it back to Auto Sync. You won't lose anything and it only takes a checkbox change and <Apply> button to change it.
As a side note, if you switch the iPod to manually manage for the other computers, you don't need to have libraries on those. Just have iTunes installed and when you plug in your manually managed iPod, you can play your library directly out of the iPod via the iTunes app. A great trick for having iTunes on a work computer without loading it up with a big media library.
Side note #2, if you format the iPod in Windows format, then ALL computers (Mac and Windows) can use it. If the iPod is in Mac format, then Windows computers won't be able to access it.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • "Extended Photo Info" lost/invisible after migration to new Mac with 10.6.2

I just migrated my iPhoto library to my new Mac running OSX 10.6.2 from a Mac running OSX 10.3 I did this by copying the "Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder to an external drive. Today I tried to use "Show Extended Photo Info", and information appears to be lost? There is no Camera or Exposure information. I re-imported a photo from an old e-mail, and it does have the information! Do the Event/Location/Face features cause this to be deleted from my photos? I used these feature a lot before noticing anything was wrong.
Any ideas? Can I somehow check to see if the JPEG file still has the information? It is not too late to re-do the library import. I cannot live without the exposure information, as I like to play with my camera settings.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. After copying the library to the external HD did you open it directly with iPhoto? When iPhoto 09 converted that library to the latest version it would not have done anything to lose the EXIF data which is stored in the library's database files.
You didn't import that library into a new library did you? If you didn't then try rebuilding the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
