I'm trying to replace a hard disk in a Pismo in order to upgrade to a larger capacity disk, but have run into a problem: the person I'm replacing it for has lost his Panther disk, so I can't format the drive, and it won't fit in any computer that either of us own. The Pismo refuses to show up in my devices when I use it as a firewire disk on my MacBook. Is the best way to format the disk:
a) To buy a standard Panther disk off ebay (not a specialised G3 Powerbook Panther disk) and use that?
b) Buy a caddy for the disk and use disk utility on my Mac, then put it back in the powerbook?

This would allow you to use a retail install DVD if you connected the bare drive to a newer Mac. No drivers are required for the device
I believe the vendor I referenced ships outside the US but I can't say what the UK price would be with shipping, VAT and the like. Knowing such devices exist could perhaps help you find one locally. -

when you replaced the hdd was it formated to "mac osx extended journaled" if not, there lies your problem.

I noticed my hard drive getting filled, didn't save 500 Gb of data on it. I made the observation that hidden files are been created on the Hd. I assumed they were unnecessary and deleted most of them. To my dismay am getting a kernel panic message. How do i go about getting this fixed?
Depending on what directory or directories you were erasing from you've certainly erased important system files and perhaps important applications files as well. If you have been using TimeMachine to back your computer up you should reboot into recovery mode (restart and hold Command + R until you see the Apple icon) and perform a restore.
If you haven't, boot into recovery mode anyway and choose the install OS option. Keep your fingers crossed that the OS is the only thing you deleted and that this works. You may also find it necessary to reinstall some of your software. -

I have an iLife 11 disc that doesn't work very well so I tried creating a disk image of it with Disk Utility. It took two tries but finally got a disk image that I could use to install the iLife 11 applications. Give it a try.

My iPhone 4s hasnt been used in over 6 months. Everytime I plug it into my computer and iTunes, it says it requires a restore and update. Just to confirm on the screen of the iPhone do you see the itunes symbol with a cable pointing up to it?. If you do then your iPhone is inrecovery mode and would require you to restore it.
Now first you want to make sure iTunes is up to date and the cable you are using is not damaged. You also want to make sure iTunes is up to date.

In terms of the iPhone 3G that is definitely not able to update to iOS 7. Only the iPhone 4 and larter can update to iOS 7. -
I lost my logic 8 pro serial number. I can't find the booklet that comes with the serial number. How can retrieve this? I upgraded from logic pro 7. I changed hard drives and now it keeps asking for the serial number. But I can't find it. Where can I request it? Thanks!
If you still have the receipt or other proof of purchase, you can ask Apple to send you the serial. Otherwise, bad luck mate.. Good news is, you can now buy Logic Pro 9 from App Store for just 199 USD

Replacing a hard disk: will any drive work?
The 60GB internal hard disk on my 12" PowerBook G4 no longer works reliably. I know this because I can install OS X on my external Maxtor hard drive and boot up with no problem through firewire, but not with the internal one.
I want to replace the internal hard disk. Will any drive that seems to have the right specs-2.5", 9.5mm IDE Hitachi 80GB-do the job? I just bought the described drive at a computer shop, and haven't opened it yet, but I want to make sure I can actually make use of it. Are there any other important considerations?

I have seen posts on these boards where the SATA version has been purchased by mistake as online resellers don't always make enough distinction between the serial and parallel/ultra versions in their sales descriptions.
Even when I was buying my drive I had to triple check that I was buying the correct one.
