Agent installed, added entry to PATH, causing application problems

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of rolling out OEM 10g Grid Control. I have a test server running OEM, and I am installing the agent on a few of our development servers to test things out. I was able to get the agent up and running on one of our dev servers with no problems. However, it introduced some new issues - suddenly the server was having some problems, certain apps weren't working, and the server would even reboot itself periodically (can you guess - Windows 2003 Server). After a lot of finger-pointing yesterday, it turned out to be the fact that the agent install had added 2 new entries into the system PATH environment variable:
d:\oracle\product\10.1.0\agent10g\jlib
d:\oracle\product\10.1.0\agent10g\bin
This was causing problems with the apps, which subsequently was causing the server to reboot. The person who found this issue yesterday just went in and removed those 2 entries from the PATH, and now things seem to be good. The applications are working again, and the agent continues to run just fine as well.
Has anyone else noticed this? Am I OK to just remove these entries from the path after installing the agent on every server?

Quick update, if anyone is interested - I created an SR on Metalink to help with this issue. Here is what they came back with:
"This values in Path variable are added in order to allow the Agent to perform all kind of tasks (diferent targets-type discovery, patching, configuring).
It is not grave to have this values removed, but in order to avoid later unexpected behaviour, from Oracle Management Agent point of view it is recommended to re-add this values AT THE END of the Path variable."
So that is exactly what I did - I moved the 2 entries to the END of the path variable, then rebooted the server, and now things seem to be good - the application is working normally again, and I can see everything in OEM.

Adding Selection menu has caused burning problems

I'm using iMovie9 version 8.0.4 with iDVD version 7.0.4. I first burned a project with only the Play button. Was able to change the title (ie, used a different title in iDVD than the one used in iMovie) with no problem. However, after adding chapter markers and having a Scene Selection menu I find that if I change the title of the DVD (the Play button) it will spit out the blank DVD when I try to burn. If I allow it to keep the title imported with the iMovie project it will do a burn. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't see a way to change the title of the iMovie project to match the one I want to use in iDVD without creating a new iMovie project. I thought of doing that then...what? importing my existing project to the new one and renaming it? Is that possible? Don't want proceed any farther without getting some advice because I fear losing the project that I have put so much work into and having to start anew. Any suggestions?

Ah. File/Save as Disc Image. Too easy. After waiting about an hour I fired up the MacBook and tried again. Burn went fine. So I guess the limit, at least on this computer, is two consecutive discs. However, back to my original problem of changing the title in iDVD so that it differs from the one in iMovie. At that particular juncture I hadn't tried to burn any discs. I simply opened iDVD, changed the title, (same project I had burned the day previously using the same title from iMovie) tried to burn and the disc was rejected. If no one else has had a problem with a burn after changing the title when there is a Scene Selection menu, then maybe it's something else. However, it burned OK after I changed the title in iMovie to match the one I wanted to use in iDVD then republished (had to make a few minor changes first in iMovie because it wouldn't allow me to publish the same movie again with only a title change). I really appreciate your help and will give you "Helpful" credit for your responses but can't mark this solved until I'm certain that there isn't some kind of eccentric incompatibility issue using iMovie9 version 8.0.4 with iDVD version 7.0.4 involving the title change. Many thanks to you and all the people who have been so helpful in the forum.

Upgrading RAM to 2GB causes application problems

Hi all,
I just upgraded my 2Ghz MBP from 1Gb RAM to 2Gb. I went into Westworld on Broadway and got them to do the install (Kensington). On reboot, we checked the System Profiler, and lo and behold, both DIMMs read OK, same speed, size, etc. Well, since then, what had been a remarkably stable system has had numerous troubles. I can't launch QuarkXpress 7.01 Universal while iTunes is running; iTunes seems to have broken something in it's relationship with my 30Gb Video iPod (reports an -59 error, unable to synch related to photos from iPhoto), Mail has quit on me twice, saying the index is damaged, and will be repaired on restarting Mail; the Finder stops working unexplicably, or just parts of it (just now I couldn't access the Apple menu). Oh, and I also just learned that my battery needs to be exchanged (its serial number is in the recall list)
Now, these things should not be a surprise to Apple.... is there some kind of adjustment I have to do to Tiger to get all my apps working seamlessly (like they did before the upgrade), just faster than before? I am a very heavy power user, and like to have 8 or so apps open at the same time. The idea behind the upgrade was to improve performance (especially of the Rosetta-using apps) but I certainly haven't got there.
Any advice or suggestions?

T61 nvidia driver causes font problems

after my last update a new graphics driver for the nvidia quadro 140m was installed.
the new version (7618) caused bad problems with my fonts. (they could not been displayed)
-> only squares for each letter
it took me a have day to find out, that it was the graphic driver (i didn't expected that).
After I reinstalled my fontexplorer and repared my windows installation several times,
it took me another half day to find the download to the old driver again. (7471)

now it works again with the old driver and i hope there will be an update and at least a notice in the thinkpad system update.

I had a similar problem. I have 3.03a of the presentation director and the most current display driver.
If I boot with dual screens, the first time I do it, I have to open the lid to the laptop and then close it after startup and it will usually move to the dual screen profile.
It may be a temp fix, but after that, as long as I have it docked, the dual screens come up.

SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas

I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.

Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.

Genymotion plugin, path to application

Hi, I installed genymotion from aur, is working fine, I can add virtual devices and run it, I install the genymotion plugin in android studio, it need to set the path to the genymotion folder but nothing is working, I try genimotion location with "which genymotion", try the local folder at home directory, but nothing is working, anyone can tell me what folder I need set there?
my android studio is the zip file downloaded from android developer website, not the one from the aur.

In addition to working out whether you're using the system application support directory, or the user one, you also need to look at the path itself.
Assuming, for now, that 'path to application support as text' returns 'HD:System:Library:Application Support:", your code:
set f_name to (path to application support as text) & "My_appname" & "my_filename.txt"
will result in:
"HD:System:Library:Application Support:Myappnamemyfilename.txt"
Note how My_appname and my_filename.txt are merged - because you just appended the two strings. You need to separate these two items with a colon in order to specify another directory level:
set f_name to (path to application support as text) & "My_appname:" & "my_filename.txt"
Finally, the fact you 'get EOF errors' is a little wierd. If your path is wrong I would expect a 'file not found' error, not a EOF error. It may be that you are specifying the correct file but there's some other error in your script when you process it that is causing your problem.

DPM 2012 Manual Agent Install Fails

Hello Everyone,
Using DPM 2012 SP1, I've been stuck on an issue for some time now in trying to get a DPM agent install accomplished on a certain server. The DPM server resides on a parent domain and the server that I am having an issue with is on a child domain. Other servers
on the child domain have installed the agent without issue when doing it manually.
Here is the command I use (as an administrator):

The installation proceeds through the Microsoft License Terms, begins to install and then backs out. The error message that is generated states: "DPMAgentinstaller failed with error code = 0X80070643 error says: fatal error during installation"
In researching the 1708 error within the log file it lead me to the fact that maybe the firewall on the target server was the issue. I
ran this suggested fix on the target server:

I do not have a Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\ProductionAgents\RA\4.1.3313.0\amd64
file path on the DPm system.
Rather Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\ProtectionAgents\RA\4.1.3313.0\amd64
Still, I ran the DPMAgentInstaller_x64.exe
from that file path and the agent did not install.
Also, on the DPM server I have added the target machine name to the DPMRADmTrustedMachines
group. I also made sure that the domain service account is in the same group. Still no luck.

Search for ZfD Agent install script

I am looking for a script / batch file for installation of the ZENworks agent without reboot of the workstation.
I am just updating from ZfD 7 SP1 ir3a to ir4 and if I install it manually and start the ZENworks services after install everything is still operational without reboot.
However if I install the agent with a ZENworks application package it always needs a reboot to activate the ZENworks services again - especially the Workstation-Manager
I tried it with pre- and post launch and distribution scripts, and with batch file installation. Everytime when the Workstation-Manager stops the installation ends but the post-scripts and batch processing stops as well. It always requires a reboot to activated the Agent again - or a manual start of the Workstation-Manager service.
I need to find just a way to call a batch file after the MSIEXEC process finishes in order to perform a "net start Workstation-manager".
The difference to other invoronments might be, that the Application is assigned to the Workstations instead to the users like in most other environments.

This is a link to a script I wrote in AutoIt that I used for many ZfD6 - 7 deployments. Was very successfully in getting the agent out and you run it from the login script.

I didn't write it to do a removal of the agent, but would be simple enough to be added. On the same forum site, in the Zen FAQ's I also posted the source code for the script I have been using to do ZCM deployments. In it has the code you would need to add to facilitate the uninstall of the agent so you can do a reinstall.

SCOM agent install on Unix/Linux

Hi, trying to install agent on RHEL. Here is the case:
- Hosts file added with FQDN name on Linux server
- IPtables off for IPv4 & IPv6(I've a doubt here. Even turned off, do they need exception entry in iptables for both v4 & v6)
- Replying for ping from both SCOM management servers by hostname and IP address.
- nslookup pointing to same IP & server
- DNS resolution ok (both forward & reverse)
- WinRM qc showing WinRM already set to listen.
- Getting discovered while agent install, failing at certificate signing validation - the last step.
- Sudoer file modified perfectly
- Port 1270 is open over network (confirmed by n/w team)
Still receive below error :(
- Agent verification failed.
Error detail: The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for the WS-Management service running on the destination,

Certificate does not include the FQDN so it fails. You can do a few things here to fix it.
Run the following on the Linux agent and try discovery again. This will overwrite the old certificate and create a new one with the FQDN.
/opt/microsoft/scx/bin/tools/scxsslconfig -h <Linux hostname> -d <domain name> -f -v
Update the /etc/hosts file on the Linux computer and add the FQDN:
x.x.x.x myLinux.mydomain.com myLinux
or update the /etc/resolv.conf:
domain mydomain.com
If you do either of the last 2 you will want to delete everything under
/etc/opt/microsoft/scx/ssl and then re-run discovery as it will still try to use the old certificate if it exists.

I need to update my system, I realized that I need Snow Leopard (quiet late) before Maverick. My question is, how can I install it keeping files and all the data. I found this on Internet, does it work?

If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files. You may have to reinstall some applications, however.

I uninstalled the browser and download a new version but it does not resolve the issue.
I know my hard disc has ample space. I do NOT know where to find the Profile directory to fix the read restriction box.

Could not find agent library on the library path or in the local directory

Hi all,
I'm trying to write a jvmti agent that write any information in a mysql db. I've written a simple agent that work correctly and now I'll try to insert the mysqlpp library in my agent:
1) I've added #include <mysql++.h>
2) and I've added mysqlpp::Connection      conn(false); (global variable)
I've modify my Makefile and the compiler and linker work correctly but when I test the agent the VM says "Could not find agent library on the library path or in the local directory"

Did you make sure your library (call it x) starts is named libx.so (atleast, on linux, possibly libx.dll on windows, not sure)? It will not load otherwise, and you must specify -agentlib:x (rather than saying libx.so). Yes, it is "funny" how it gives the same uninformative error message for a wide variety of errors. It will also give you this same error message if there are still unresolved symbols upon loading your library (which would be my second guess).

New WIN7 System, FFox gives error "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory" - will not go to any site.

New Windows 7 computer. After installing Firefox, every time I bring it up I get the following message:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."
Then Firefox comes up, but will not function at all - can enter url address, but will not respond to ANY clicks, so can not go to any site.

Photoshop cs4 photomerge causes application crash

When I try to use the photomerge tool from photoshop cs4, under file->automate->photomerge, before the box appears which allows you to select the photos to use, an alert box appears saying that photoshop has stopped working, and then the application force closes.
I tried uninstalling, and then using the CC cleaner tool, then reinstalling, but I still have the same problem.
I installed it on a windows 8.1 x86-64 machine with 16GB ram. Both the 32 bit and 64 bit photoshop applications have the same failure.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I haven't been able to find anyone else who has this issue.

I can't find the new thread, and I assume there is no solution yet, so I'm replying here...
I can say that I have an Alienware 18 with switchable graphics - low power, built-in Intel HD-4600, or twin nVidia 770M cards - and when running in the Intel graphics mode, photomerge works every time, but recently (AFAIK) when running the nVidia graphics mode (in single mode at least - I will try dual/SLI later), I can say photomerge crashes every time.
I'm fairly sure my PC used to to do photomerge running in nVidia mode, so it maybe the latest, or recent driver, causing the problem; I'm running drivers contained in "340.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe" on windows 8.1 64-bit.
My suggestion therefore is to try older drivers with nVidia cards, at least to get some data about what works/doesn't work and report it to nVidia. Even though the root cause could be in Abode software (nVidia may have tightened up on some issue that conceivably manifests an Abode bug), I'd bet money Abode no longer care about supporting you if, like me, you are running old CS4, paid for at great cost - they will likely just say buy an upgrade to the latest s/w (which may or may not work)!
