I have Adobe Pagemaker 7 which came with a large clipart library. These are all .ai (supposedly Adobe Illustrator) files. These will not open in Adobe Illustrator CS2, CS3 or Photoshop CS3. I keep getting an error message saying 'does not support this format'. Does anyone have a clue why
Adobe clipart won't open in some Adobe programs?

Where's the current PDF Catalog file for CS3?
The clip art collection (at least most of it) is also in the CS3 collection, on the Illustrator CD .. my problem is that I can't find the current catalog, and the catalog file I used with PageMaker 7 is corrupt (on the CD too) and won't display all the art any more.
As a non-artist, I sometimes need a quick piece of art, and this has been a good resource).

Creating Clipart in Photoshop Elements 9

I am new to Photoshop Elements 9 and am trying to turn a logo that I personally designed into clipart. I have the logo saved as a jpeg file in my documents folder on my Mac. Can anyone tell me the steps to follow to accomplish this?

If your logo is saved as JPEG file, Open WORD, for example, go to Insert>picture, point to the location, and resize to suit.
If you need the logo on a web page, for example one created in Publisher, you can follow the same drill, but the background will show. In order to avoid this, save the logo in a file format that supports transparency.

How can I move clipart to display on the side ?

I have just upgraded my notebook and now have the latest Microsoft word (at least I think it is).
The problem is, accessing clipart isn't as easy as it used to be with my previous older version of Microsoft word. The dialogue box that comes up now takes central place and covers my word document. Then d it keeps closing once I have chosen a picture
so that I have to go to the toolbar to open it again (comes under the button 'online pictures').
It's a nuisance. In my previous Microsoft word, it was so much easier to access clipart. The panel remains open at the side till you decide to dispense with it. Is there a way to keep the old style access with the new Microsoft word? Thanks.

Thanks Tyler. You are right - I'm working with Office 2013 and yes it will allow me to insert multiple pictures at a time by holding the control key. The trouble is - it means I have to second guess myself by selecting tons more images to download
than I would have, if I could have checked each one as I went along. Also, with the side panel (which was available in the previous version of Office), you can go back directly to clipart and insert another keyword straight away in case the first
keyword doesn't quite deliver the images you are looking for. With Office 2013, you have to click on the icon for on-line pictures again to bring the dialogue box up.
All in all, it is extremely inconvenient and for me, not an improvement. I wonder if Microsoft Office will do something about bringing back the side panel?

Microsoft organizer clipart thumbnail not displaying correctly

We use MS Office 2010, when I try to do Insert>Clipart>then type a keyword(ie. ball). It displays the local clipart images but not the images from online Microsoft organizer. It just displays X-mark on the thumbnail.
I've already repaired MS Office, cleared temporary internet files but to no avail.
It will only work if you right-click on the thumbnail with X-mark, then choose 'make available offline' to save the clipart locally. This will take as you have to do it for each.
Has anyone experienced this issue and fixed it?

How to improve quality of photos or clipart downloaded from web?

Hi,
My name is Gail and I am new to this forum. I am a novice in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2. Searched but couldn't find answer to this question:
When I download images from the web (right click and save as)they often appear blurry, especially if I enlarge. Usually only the choice of jpeg or bitmap to Save As. How can I improve the quality? Please answer simply as I have limited knowledge in this area. :)
I have Photoshop Elements 2. Operating system is Windows XP. I usually use the clipart or photo in Printshop 21 when creating greeting card, etc. or in making a DVD cover design.

Hi Gail,
I'm afraid the short answer to your question is that often you cannot improve the quality.
The holy grail of web site design is to create web pages that take up as little computing memory as possible. The reason for this is down to the fact that the contents of web pages have to be transmitted over the public Internet - bit by bit and byte by byte from a hosting server to the viewer's desktop. Therefore fewer bits and bytes to shunt around mean faster download times and improve the length of time it takes an entire page to display correctly on your screen.
With this ideology in mind many applications, Photoshop Elements included, have features built into them to downsize images to the smallest possible file size (bytes) for displaying at the author's chosen size at an acceptable quality.
That said, there are other examples on the Internet where people provide 'thumbnail' images that link to larger versions of that image or even to the full original file size. Look out for those instead.

PS. Don't forget about the whole issue of copyright. That is another reason why some people will render their work to such small file sizes (i.e. to prevent unauthorised copying and printing).

Batch conversion of old Freehand clipart files to AI or EPS?

I've found several threads about simply opening an old Freehand file into Illustrator, but I am looking for a utility that can convert the entire disk, or at least entire folders at one time. Looks like I have the Freehand 5 and Freehand 7 clipart disks and booklets.
I have Macromedia MX, along with the CS5 Design Premium suite on this Windows7 system.
A lot of the clipart from that period looks very similar. I start to wonder if I don't already have the same artwork in other packages.
I have been copying my clipart CDs to my hard drives and started trying to catalog them. Extensis Portfolio 8.5 appears to be reading AI, EPS, TIF, BMP, JPG, & WMF, but I don't think it is generating preview images for FH5 or even Corel Draw's CDR formats,
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Okay, I can answer a bunch of my own questions!
A: I originally tried converting FH5 files from an old Freehand 5 disk. Photoshop CS5 can work with version 6 and above.
B: I had to burn a Freehand 7 disk from my Mac to work on the PC. That worked okay.
C: I ran the script inside Illustrator mentioned earlier.
D: It worked, but there are a bunch of BIG caveats. See list below.
A: Norton Immediately reported a High Memory Useage for Illustrator
B: After the first file opened in Illustrator, the message bar at the top of the screen said Illustrator was not responding. After using the "Close Window" command in the toolbar, I noticed it actually created 44 files.
C: I emptied the folder and started everything up again. I got the same messages, but I could see the program was converting the files one at a time...and very slowly.
D: After about 15 minutes, it had converted 380 files out of 800 in the folder. These were very small files, too.
E: The worst part of all of this is Illustrator was taking control of all resources. I could not use any other program. There is no "abort" or "cancel" command visible. I ended up using the Close Window command to stop the process midstream.
All things considered, it appears it would be faster to open a bunch of files in Freehand MX and saving them as Illustrator using quick keys.

I have just got an iPad and downloaded 'Pages' to help for work and also for my daughter for homework when needed. What is the best app to get for ClipArt or is there a way to move it across from the computer to the iPad?

I really like some of the fancier objects that are already in the templates when I open pages. Is there a place to look at all of them and insert them (like clipart in MS Office?) so I don't have create all of them from scratch?

Month view - want clipart...... how?

All,
I'd like to drop in some clipart for certain events in my calendar. I want the clipart to be viewable in the month view.
I thought I could post the clipart to the notes field in the event, but it does not appear on the month view....
How do I do this?

The window positions are kept in your preferences.
Quit iCal and try moving the com.apple.iCal.plist file in User>Library>Preferences to your Desktop, then re-start iCal. The preference file will be re-created with the default settings, this will not affect the contents of your calendars.

Clipart Error Message with Microsoft Word 2010

When opening insert and Clip Art, I am able to enter the search word and results display, but only with an "x" thumb nail. I am unable to see any of the pictures. The error message that appears when trying to insert the clipart is as
follows:
"Error message when you try to insert a clip art image in an Office 2003 program or in an Office XP program: "Clip Organizer cannot complete the operation. Error Code 0x800c0008""

I think this issue may occur if the firewall settings block access to the Microsoft Office Online Clip Art and Media Web site. To resolve this issue, add this URL http://office.microsoft.com/clipart to the trusted Web site list in the firewall settings.

How do I add clipart to my playlist?

I made a playlist of music and added it to my iPhone. When I look at my list, the clip art isn't there. However when I play music from the playlist I see the clipart I chosen. Anyway I can fix this odd matter?

Open your clip art image and paper image in the Editor, they should both appear in the photo bin.
Click on the layout button on the bottom toolbar and choose All Column.
They will now appear side by side in the main window.
Select the move tool and drag the clip art image to the paper layer image and drop.
You can now close the clip art by clicking the X and you will now have a new layer in you composite design.

Does Apple provide clipart for Keynote

I switched from MS Office to iWorks. With Office, I had PowerPoint, it was easy to use and came with clipart. Keynote doesn't seem to have any clipart. Am I right? Where can i find clipart for Keynote and/or Pages?

Keynote does not supply clipart.
Google clipart and you will get plenty ideas.
There is no specific clipart for Keynote, its available in many file formats.

Importing clipart in Pages Newsletter

I am having trouble importing clip art into Pages. When I am able to, I can't move it where I want it even when following the instructions. Help?

Welcome to the forums, Revmev!
When you place the clipart on the page, it can either be placed in the flow of the page text (and thus only move as more material is typed, or it can be set as "fixed to page", which means that it sits where you move it, independent of the text. To get the latter effect, go to the Wrap Inspector and make sure that "Fixed on Page" is selected.
