AIR 3.7 Feedback

With the new IOS loading abilities introduced in 3.6 & 3.7, I find them pretty limited for a couple of reasons:
The fact that the complier strips AS code from the external swf files and embeds it in the main swf file means that anytime my assets change, my master swf file must be recompiled and re-submitted to the App Store. Not desirable. The whole point of having remote swf assets is to keep the assets separate from the main application code, so that the application's content can be updated on an as needed basis without having to recompile the main app.
Having the restriction to load an external swf file only once is a problem. Picture a view based mobile app that uses external swf assets, like pdfs that have been converted to swf files. Such an app would only allow the user to view the document only once when the view was loaded with this restriction. When the user goes back to the view again the app locks up.
My next task during the development of my application is to separate all of the images, xml, mp4, and swf assets from the main app and make them downloadable on an as needed basis, so that the initial download of the app is small. I think these new features don't really help do that in an ideal way. Is this just because of IOS restrictions?

>> The whole point of having remote swf assets is to keep the assets separate from the main application code
No, the goal of having remote swfs is to reduce the initial application size, and download the assets only when they are actually required. We don't recommend updating the external swf files (which are stripped) independently as that would result in an unknown behavior because of the design of our swf compiler (AOT).
>> Having the restriction to load an external swf file only once is a problem.
This restriction is not applicable to the external swf files which do not contain any abc code.
>> I think these new features don't really help do that in an ideal way. Is this just because of IOS restrictions?
You are right, that this feature would still not allow you to download code from external sources (which is a result of iOS restrictions).

  • Developers' Feedback on AIR

    Hello,
I really like AIR and would like to get fellow developers
onboard but it's kinda hard when I take them to the Adobe AIR
website and things don't look as nice as they would other places.
I'm going to share with you some of the things other developers are
    saying:
    * It's kinda difficult to get basic information or video
clips on what air is all about. The basic introduction and major
    features are not clear.
    * Website colors are dull and not eye catching.
    * Flex seems a bit hard to understand and most of them think
that it's difficult to use the Flash tool to create animations.
That's it. This is some of the feedback I'm getting thus far.
It's up to you guys to decide what you're going to do.
Personally I would like to see a reduction in the distro size
of AIR and speed improvement. It appears that AIR/Flash requires a
lot of resources but I have never tested it fully. I would like to
hear of other users' experience with running serveral AIR/Flash
    apps on a PC.
I would also love for AIR to support greater data
connectivity natively without the need to go throuh another Adobe
    Product or server:
    * MySQL
    * MSSQL
    * ODBC
    * POP3 Email support
    * SOAP connections
    * WebDAV/LDAP support
    * Ability to execute commands from AIR app
    * Ability to read/write to COM ports - this would make it
great for working with robotics and other micro chip devices. For
example: Home Automation, Device Timers, etc
    * Ability to connect with other servers or server backend
scripts when streaming data. What if I don't have a flash media
server and want yo send the the audio stream to be saved on my
    server with PHP?
While it's possible to use low level socket to create these
connections it's not something that most developers will be looking
foward to in a framework. Lack of adequate data connections or
support for such extensions will be a turn of for some developers.
Anyway, you guys have done a great job with AIR thus far but
I how you continue to push the system forward and at a much greater
    pace.
PS. The video link on this page is not working for me in IE
    or firefox:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/ajax/articles/air_ajax_developers.html

I think Adobe should be carefull in not extending AIR/Flex
into all development areas. Some software projects are clearly not
suited for AIR/Flex, and I think it should remain this way, or
otherwise the clean and elegant model may soon be "poluted" with to
many different things. Like a swish knife that does everything, but
usually not as good as a dedicated tool.
I currently see AIR/Flex as a replacement for the current
AJAX interfaces that tries to mimic the desktop interfaces of our
everyday OS. We need these kind of interfaces for many types of
applications, and I think there is also a big need for it in the
future, as we will base more and more applications in a distributed
fashion, where we can take our environments with us anywhere.
I've been working with AJAX long before the acronym was
invented, and I can only say that it is scary how much work it
actually requires to do even basic things. Besides, it's a model
that is weak in many areas, like execution speed, cross-platform,
    browser artifacts, standardisation, etc.
The HTML/JavaScript model model has been mature for
replacement in many years now, and a lot of the AJAX desktop
interfaces we see today, is what I would call totally overkill if
we consider the work required to do them. I know there's libraries
etc. that you can draw on, but these are not easily/naturallly
extendable and will never be, if you compare to flex or similar
fundamentally strong environments. AJAX is also quite difficult to
scale to big applications - in other words, it's build on a pretty
    weak fundament.
I think AIR/Flex has a great potential to develop into areas
beyond my imagination, though I hope that Adobe will be very
carefull in what they do to avoid spending time on areas that is
    better suited for other environments.
So for the time beeing I see AIR/Flex as an AJAX killer,
though it would be very critical if you marketed the framework as
such. Many of the potential developers are still very pleased with
their AJAX skills and applications, and they probably don't like
the idea of killing those (yet). This is also why Adobe tries (very
hard) to bridge the gap between Flex and AJAX - though in reality
it would probably be easier to just trash the AJAX parts.
Adobe created printers with their PostScript engines, and all
we need now are monitors and TV sets with AIR/Flex engines -
    imagine the posibilities then ;-)

  • Can Rev A Air Owners give some feedback on Garageband use?

Hi I think it's much better to rephrase the question like this:
If you have a Rev A Macbook Air please can you tell me how Garageband functions, using up to 8 tracks of software intruments and perhaps recording in 1 track of audio. Can it cope with up to 16 tracks (software instruments only). This only need be with the Garageband application open, nothing else.
-Please can you tell me also which processor speed, hard drive capacity and hard drive type you have.
Thanks in advance. (Reposted as I realise most people won't own both models of Rev A to compare, my question was phrased badly first time.)

Ive got BOTH the Pro and AIr youre interested in, for what YOU say you want, Id get the Air.
Since you said you were only going to "some graphic/plan design programs", the Air is perfect for moderate Photo editing.
    and you said no games.
Air has fewer parts, only one moving part (the fan), lite as an Ipad (almost) but a full powered computer.
No HD heads to crash, fewer parts = simplicity = less to fault.
Runs cooler than anything else out there (which = durability).  Heat is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Pack around a regular notebook around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5.
Get the 13" much longer battery life, and the screen real estate is better, Ive owned both 11" and 13".     13" also has an SD card slot the 11" doesnt have.

  • IPad air 2 Feedback squeal

I Have a feedback like squeal coming from the speaker. Happened a few times and I took it in and they reinstalled the firmware. yesterday I had a random pop sound, today I got the squeal twice within minutes. It's totally random and happens when I'm switching between apps. Usually between a game and FB or mail. I keep the sound turned way down, maybe two bars.
anybody else have this problem? First time I took it in, I was two days past return and they wouldn't take it back. Never had this issue with my previous iPad or other iPhones.
    THanks.

apple store replaced ipad. hopefully it was just my unit.

  • Can you help me solve ical synch problem going from iPhone to MacBook Air?

My iPhone calendar contains a lot of important meetings. I am about to migrate from my 3GS to iPhone 5 but since I cannot seem to properly synchronize my iCal from my iPhone to to my MacBook Air, i.e. I cannot see any events from my iPhone in my Mac's calendar. I am thus afraid to activate and jump to my iPhone 5, which is collecting dust at this point, because if this calendar fails to reemerge from the "Cloud" I am in deep horsedung.
I have all of the iCloud settings turned on for synching. I have gone to Storage and Backup and hit Synch Now and that update seems to occur via any feedback my iPhone is giving me.
I have a suspicion that since I was forced to create a 2nd account in order to synch "Notes" to the iCloud that such may be causing some of the problems, but honestly, prior to doing that I synched to iCloud so this inability to see my iPhone calendar on my Mac is more longstanding.
I also cannot seemingly log out of iCloud with one ID on my MacBook Air and sign in with another without iCloud telling me that I am going to lose all of my Contacts and previous data that I synched up with the current ID. What's that all about? That does not seem like typically brilliant Apple Design to me. Most of end up with more than one Apple ID, especially since the "Notes" synch forces you to sign up for yet another iCloud ID. I thoroughly researched that problem online at many forums before reluctantly adding another Apple ID.
My environment is MacBook Air OS X 10.7.4 and 3GS with IOS 5 (iPhone 5 with undoubtedly IOS 6 sitting in the hangar)
Thanks for any insight in advance.

  • Handoff does not work on a 2 1/2 year old MacBook Air

As I do a lots of fieldwork I was looking forward to using the new handoff feature in Yosemite which would allow me to transfer my work from my iPad to my 2 1/2 year old MacBook Air. I have now discovered that my laptop is too old for this feature. Why? This smacks of built-in obsolescence.

This is a user-to-user support forum, so we can't usually explain the "why" of many Apple decisions, although you may get some educated guesses from someone here. You can provide feedback to Apples at https://www.apple.com/feedback/ if you like.
May not help, but my MacBook Air is a mid-2012 model that is supposed to support Handoff but I've yet to get it to work in spite of meticulously following all of the instructions.
Also may not help, but I don't really care if I don't get it to work as all it would seem to do is very slightly reduce the number of steps to open a document on the other device. Without Handoff I can start a document in Pages on my MacBook Air, save to iCloud then go to my iPhone and open Pages and resume editing there. You may already be aware of that -- and you may have more need or use of Handoff than I do -- but thought I would point that out just in case you were thinking Handoff provided more capabilities than it does.

  • Does iOS 8.1.1 have these feature or are they not present on my iPad Air?

I have an iPad Air (wifi only) and iPhone 5s. I'm wondering if the following features exist in iOS 8.1.1 and maybe I've missed it?
#1- Raise to speak for Siri. I know there is "Hey Siri" but in order to use that it requires you to be a wall-hugger. Is that correct? I've read in a discussion board that you can hold down the home button to enable Siri, then bring it up to your ear. That seemed to work somewhat okay for me. I bought my first iPhone for the raise-to-speak feature...bought my 2nd iPhone for that reason. It's a necessary Accessibility feature for me.
#2- I know the Apple Wireless Keyboard always worked with my iPad Air and my iPhone 5s but wasn't always the same experience as when using a Mac. Meaning, the keyboard shortcuts that enabled me to be productive, weren't always enabled. For example, I can still use in Apple Mail, shift+command+D and that would send an e-mail I've drafted. I wish more of the same keyboard shortcuts I use on my MacBook Pro would be enabled with my iPad Air/iPhone 5s. But after updating, I noticed even more shortcuts were taken away. Things like fn+delete, command+delete or option+delete don't delete an entire word or sentence. I also can't use shortcuts anymore to highlight a sentence from my keyboard. Or at least, in Mail there seems to be some decent functionality. But in Safari when trying to send Apple feedback through these forms...no dice (on a consistent/reliable basis). Why not? Please bring that back. Being disabled is no fun. But these shortcuts helped me. Is it me, or have things gotten worse with this Apple accessory with iOS 8.1.1? Or, has anyone found a solution? Yes, I unpaired and re-paired the device. I also notice that while typing with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, it doesn't spell check as I type. That's no fun.
#3- Reliable searching in Spotlight. Keyword here is RELIABLE. I've seen a lot of folks on Twitter posting screenshots of searches in Spotlight in iOS 8.1.1 for even Apple apps (like Phone, Contacts, etc.) and nothing comes up for applications. I've had the same issue when it comes to searching for installed apps on my iOS devices. Why? I know the release notes for iOS 8.1.1 mentioned fixes for iPhone 4s and iPad AIr 2. But what about iPhone 5s and iPad Air? Where's the love? I've tried unchecking and rechecking the Spotlight options. That didn't help. Yes, reset all my settings. Didn't help. Right before iOS 8.1.1 was released, I had restored my devices.
#4- Reliable searching for event in the native Calendar app. Again, keyword here is RELIABLE. So a few times now, I have tried to search for (recent) or future events/appointments in the native Calendar app by tapping the search icon in the app. The result? Nothing was found when searching by that method. However, by going through the Calendar app (day-by-day) I was able to find the appointments/events I needed to. However, this experience was horrible and very tedious. And at first, I just heard about this issue from friends. And family members were asking me for help. Has anyone experienced this issue? Any workarounds?
#5- Battery drain issues since iOS 8.1.1 on both my iPad Air and iPhone 5s. For example, I was using Comcast/Xfinity's TV GO app to watch a movie I downloaded on my iPhone 5s. The device was in Airplane Mode and Location Services was off. The device ran very hot (even though it is quite cool in my apartment and outside, and it was not being plugged in). It went from a charge of 100% to the caution dialog box to recharge in just over 2 hours of viewing. Brightness setting was its lowest. Now, that experience is quite new to me. My battery was replaced by Apple about 4 months ago. I attempted to replicate the issue the following night with the same settings. It wasn't as bad but still a drain much faster than what I've seen before. Has anyone else experienced this type of drain? On my iPad Air, I've noticed a sharp decline in battery performance since updating to iOS 8.1.1 and I don't know why. And it's intermittent and frustrating. I use only Apple cords and adapters. I follow the instructions about Apple batteries and ways to optimize per the Apple website. Yet, I'm seeing a problem. Anyone else? Anyone have a fix?
#6- Is there any way to create location-based reminders on my iPad Air (wifi-only configuration)? I tried to make a location-based reminder and the native Reminders app wasn't having any of it. It would not allow me to do that.  Why not? I tether my iPhone to my iPad.
#7 - Is there any way to use Apple Maps on my iPad Air (wifi-only configuration) when tethering my iPhone 5s? It doesn't do turn-by-turn navigation. Why not? Any workarouds?
#8- Sooo.....you know on our iPhones it gives us the cellular data breakout? Is there any way to get a breakout of how the iPad Air  is using the Hotspot/cellular data? I ask because I know on Netflix website, there is an option to toggle playback settings. I switched it to "low" since I was going to be traveling. I noticed that when I tethered my iPhone to my MacBook Pro, the playback setting seemed to be at the low setting (based on cellular data usage from my iPhone). But when I tethered my iPhone 5s to my iPad Air, it ate up a whole lot of data. It's as if the Netflix app didn't adhere to change in setting. When I contacted Netflix, they said it was an issue with Apple. When I contacted Apple, they said it was an issue with Netflix. I was hoping to see some kind of cellular data usage report when we tether, so I can better help Apple or Netflix. Or...if you know of a way to get my Netflix to not eat up all my data, that would be great too.
I know this was a lot. But I appreciate any and all help. I'm interested in any other bugs you're seeing with the latest version of iOS 8.1.1. My apologies in advance if this has multiple spelling mistakes. Spellcheck and grammar check don't seem to want to work in this Safari session.

    1. Unfortunately is was removed in iOS 8 .
    2. Unfortunately being a mobile O.S. means not all shortcuts may work or have a counterpart there.
    3.  I have no issues with Spotlight.  Make sure you have the categories ordered the way you want to see them. As sometimes the App results may be below other result categories where you need to scroll further down. You can change this in Settings->General->Spotlight and drag the categories to the order you want them.  For instance I have Apps at the top followed by Suggestions, and then Mail and then Contacts, and then everything else.
    4.  Again no real issues for me there.
    5. ---
    6. ---
    7. It should work. What happens when you try?
    8. When the iPad connects to the iPhone hotspot, it treats it as a regular Wifi connection because that's all it is to it.  And since you cannot limit the usage from other devices on the iPhone, it just lets it use the Cell data as much as it wants.  You'll need to manually manage this.  A Cellular iPad will have the same Cell data management as an iPhone.  A Wifi only iPad will not, as it doesn't actually use Cell data itself, so nothing really to limit.

  • 12/03/2013 - Beta - AIR 4.0.1240 Runtime and SDK

    Adobe AIR Beta Channel Update
This beta release provides access to the latest AIR runtime and SDK (with compiler) for Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android.
With this release, we are introducing a new numbering scheme for our product versions. Adopting the pattern set by Google with Chrome and Mozilla with Firefox, we will simply update the major version number with each subsequent release. In other words, beginning with the release of "Jones", Flash Player will become Flash Player 12. With each new major release, roughly every 3 months, that number will increase by one.
This change will also apply to AIR and the AIR SDK, albeit not right away. Our "Jones" release will be numbered AIR 4 and AIR SDK 4; however, with our "King" (Q2 2014) release, the version number will be synchronized with the Flash Player version at 13.
Below are some of the key features and benefits of AIR 4.0.  Please see our release notes for full details.
    New Features:
    iOS - Improved Packaging Engine
We're very excited about this new feature.  The new packaging engine we're working on can improve iOS packaging time up to 10 times over the current packager!  However this feature is still early in development and we'd like to get your feedback.  To enable this feature, please use "-useLegacyAOT no" in the ADT command, before the signing options.
Graphics: Buffer Usage flag for Stage3D
We've added a new enum Class called Context3DBufferUsage which defines two constants, STATIC_DRAW (default) and DYNAMIC_DRAW.  These constants specify how buffers will be used in Stage3D. We've also added a new parameter, called "bufferUsage", to the constructors of VertexBuffer and IndexBuffer. This "bufferUsage" parameter uses one of the constants form Context3DBufferUsage, which will allow you to select the appropriate buffer type according to your needs.
    Android Workers
Introduced as a beta feature in AIR 3.9, we're continuing to improve this feature based on your feedback in preparation for an official release in AIR 4.
Android - Support for native resources access by R* mechanism in native extension
Currently, to use the native Android resources in the Android Native Extension one has to use getResourceID() API while typically to access the resource IDs developers use the R.* mechanism. AIR 4.0 onwards, apps developers will be able to access the resources by R.* mechanism. All the dependencies need to be specified in platform.xml as following and all the dependencies and resources to be packaged in the ANE.
Supplementary Characters Enhancement Support for TextField – EXTENDED BETA
This is a desktop enhancement for supporting surrogate pairs in the TextField control.  Now, characters out of the Basic Multilingual Plane(BMP) with Unicode code points between U+10000 and U+10FFFF will work correctly in the TextField control.  It greatly enlarges the code point range we support and includes characters like emotion symbols (emoticons) and complex CCJK characters.  This feature is being introduced in the AIR 4 beta but will go live in a subsequent release.  Due to the sensitive nature of text display, we would like an extended test period to ensure no bugs are introduced.
Stage3D Creation of Context3D with Profile Array
We've added a new interface to Stage3D.requestContext3DMatchingProfiles(profiles:Vector.<String> ) which will create a Context3D with highest level suitable profile that is in profile array, based on the current hardware.  A developer can check the newly added property 'profile' to obtain the current profile that was chosen by the Flash Runtime.
    Support for Android 4.4 (KitKat)
We've completed our support testing with AIR against the latest Android 4.4 release.  Please let us know if you encounter any problems.
    Known Issues:
Timeline animation does not play properly in Air 3.9. [3647538]
Hunger Games Adventures become unplayable after 10 min on iOS7 [3651083]
Text field stops updating on iOS 7 after giving voice input. [3658462]
    Fixed Issues:
[iOS] Context3D 'drawToBitmapData' does not adhere to device orientation changes. [3638742]
[Android] ANE gives error on calling System.loadLibrary() method when APK is packaged in target apk-captive-runtime. [3676327]
[Android 4.4] No events are honored on microphone object. [3668138]
[Workers] AIR 3.9 for android, can not load file in non-primordial worker. [3643406]
[iOS] Rotating app to landscape on iOS 7 pushes view off screen and shows status bar [3648197]
[iOS] Unable to compile an application in Flash builder  using  -useLegacyAOT switch [3676175]

Ok, just figured this out. The cert I created was somehow malformed. I simply created a new one with the Flash IDE which worked fine. Any other method of creating the cert that I tried failed, including the keytool command line utility.

  • The [~] key on mid 2011 MacBook Air

I've got a mid 2001 Macbook Air with US keyboard (long left [Shift] key, horizontal [Enter] key, the [\] key above the [Enter] key):
    http://files.itproportal.com/wp-content/uploads/photos/MacBook-Air-11in-mid-2012-3_original.jpg
In Remote Desktop Connection 8.0.15 for OS X, pressing the [~] key (the key to the left of the [1] key) does the same as pressing the [\] key (the key above the [Enter] key): when pressed alone, it produces the "\" symbol, when pressed along with
the [Shift] key, it produces the "|" symbol.
I don't need two backslash keys, I need the tilde key! What should I do?

    Hi,
Please try to reinstall the app and check. Apart if there is any key mapping you can remap and try. Also In the "Input Menu" of "International" system preferences< scroll down and make sure US is the only keyboard checked.
    Thanks.

  • New System Build feedback/advice, please...

Time to build a new WorkStation. My motivation for upgrading is that I have been using a mediocore laptop (i7m, 8gb, 250gb ) from my work as my home system for the last 2 years, I am starting to get more freelance coming in and need a good desktop.
I am not so sure about my processor, mother board and video card choice. I am more interested in app usability than absolute throughput and want to maximise my dollar investment.
    Purchase date: this week
Budget:  I'd like to stay close to $1000-1300, but can spend more for significant performance gains. As I do more  research, my inclinations are trending higher.
System Usage: My primary uses will include photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop, 3D graphics using 3D studio Max, Maya and Mud Box, HD video editing using Premiere and After Affects and  Web Design. I will also use it as an HD media player and hifi audio is important. Maximizing cs6 performance in premiere & pShop is my main target. I am focused mainly on user experience while running these apps. If I need to encode hrs of video or crank out frames in max/maya, I can do it at work. I seldom run games.
Monitors: I'm running two Dell U2410's IPS, calibrated w\Color Munki, one portrait one lanscape.
Parts to Upgrade: Full system build
    O/S : Win7 Ultimate, I might play with Ubuntu/Virtualization
Vendor: Newegg unless I can save big $$ else where. I like B&H.
It needs to be an Intel machine & I have chosen lga 2011 becuase I'll eventually go to 64gb. I'll do some modest overclocking.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your expertise.

Do you have any feeling about how much I'll gain by going to the 6 core cpu over the 4 core? Remember, for me usability in the cs6 apps is more important than marginal gains in throughput.

I have picked the MSI motherboard due to its support for 128gb ram, superior audio and other high end features. The AS Rock for its rep for solid value/performance. Opinions?
Finally, I would like some advice on video cards. I prefer nVidia to ATI, but I'm not sure which chip to go for. The six fifties are cheaper, but the 660 ti provides more CUDA cores.

    Alex,
I sure wish you would quick picking fights with lots of knowledgeable people just trying to help people build good PCs for running Adobe Premiere. (I am stating that based on not just this thread, but rather the strong challenges you seem to bring to about half of the threads that you've chosen to participate in).
I was the original poster to suggest that Neal select a larger case. Next Harm agreed and cited 6 points which I would agree with regarding why a larger box is better for a video editing rig.
What are the typical goals for someone wanting a video editing PC? I would expect that most users want:
    - robust, runs and never fails
    - has incredible power; face it, video editing with AVCHD is one of the most taxing applications a PC can face today
    - quiet; who wants to be doing creative work with any server room like wind noise
Now let me be specific where you are simply WRONG WRONG WRONG:
You stated: "Back pressure increases in larger spaces due to natural impedance of airflow (much like with electricity traveling over distance)"
Fact: Exactly the opposite; Back pressure decreases in larger spaces due to more room for the air to flow (much like thicker copper passes electricity with less resistance than a thin wire)
Your stated: "Open non-compartmentalized spaces are a recipe for hot spots - areas of turbulence with higher temperatures." and then cited a server room article talking about cooling air taking the path of least resistance -- going under the floor in a server room, instead of through rack mounted servers.
Fact: Lots of open space for large, slow moving fans to keep a video editing box cool is a great way to go
You stated: "Full towers - in themselves - are worse for cooling"
Fact: That is one crazy indefensible statement!
I seriously doubt that you fully comprehend the differences and importance of thermal conductivity, heat capacity, conduction, convection, and radiation for you to make the statements that you have so far and these are the staples for discussing how heat transfer takes place.
Note to other readers... There are lots of ways to cool components including cpus, hard drives, gpus and memory. I suspect that the noise levels brought by servers and some gamers would be totally offensive to the ambient noise level that you want in the room with you for video editing. Therefore we are left with just a few quiet alternatives: 1) lots of volume at low velocity (large cases, large fans, slow rpm), 2) liquid cooling, and 3) Cases with doors or baffles to keep the sound from a noisier solution from getting back to your ears.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • 12/10/2013 - Beta - AIR 4.0.1320 Runtime and SDK

    Adobe AIR Beta Channel Update
This beta release provides access to the latest AIR runtime and SDK (with compiler) for Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android.
With this release, we are introducing a new numbering scheme for our product versions. Adopting the pattern set by Google with Chrome andMozilla with Firefox, we will simply update the major version number with each subsequent release. In other words, beginning with the release of"Jones", Flash Player will become Flash Player 12.
[3680824] Application playing mp3/video crashes after coming to foreground from background.
    Fixed Issues:
[3679894] [Android] Returning from Alarm Clock on Android causes black screen
[3655695] Sound gets stop on clicking Power button even when UIBackground tag value set to Audio in application.xml
[3650915] Packaging multiple SWFs fails, even with ample memory
[3648374] Timeline animation does not play properly in Air 3.9
[3658462] Text field stops updating on iOS7 after giving voice input.

  • New MacBook Air SuperDrive for G4 PowerBook

My G4 PowerBook is still going strong except the original SuperDrive died a few months ago. While watching the MacWorld 2008 Keynote, I see that there is now an External MacBook Air SuperDrive option available for the new MacBook Air for $99. Does anyone know if this external Superdrive will work with the G4 PowerBooks?
    Thanks.

Hi, DLaid, and welcome to Apple Discussions. You could replace your internal Superdrive yourself for $50-S75 USD (depending on what drive you chose) and an hour of your time. See the link in my post above. Buying an external optical drive to use with a portable computer would be silly, but if you wanted to do it anyway, there are dozens to choose from besides Apple's. As I explained above, a USB-only drive is totally inappropriate for use with a Tibook, even if it would work. Get a FireWire-capable drive if you buy an external.
Be aware also that when you post in these forums, you aren't talking to Apple; you're just talking to other Mac users like yourself. The people at Apple who need to hear your concerns don't monitor these boards. This is explained in the "Help & Terms of Use" link that appears in the right sidebar of every Discussions page. Your second-paragraph gripes would be more usefully addressed directly to Apple through the appropriate Product Feedback channels:

    Hi
    I have a Macbook air & iPhone 4.
what do I need to do if I want to buy a book (ebook) or an application that is not available in the iTunes store in my area i.e. Africa (Egypt)?
Do I need to open a different account in the iTunes store in the other area i.e. USA ?
    Please advice
    Thank you

You can only buy content from your own country's store i.e. the Egyptian store if you are in Egypt - you need to be in a country to use its store, so to use the US store you will need to be in the US and have a US billing address on your account. If there is an app or any other item that you would like to be buy that isn't currently available in the Egyptian store then you can try requesting that it be added, but unless the app's developer or rights-holder agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • Some advice - buying a MacBook Air

    Hi,
I am planning to buy a MacBook Air (13" version), and have some questions which I would like some help!
    1. Performance/Upgrades
I am trying to figure out whether I should get the Processor (i5 to i7) and/or RAM (4GB to 8GB) upgrades - is it worth it, for me?
My day to day usage is quite regular - Outlook, spreadsheets, writing, browsing, streaming online videos, a few flash games here and there. But, I do multi-task heavily, in that I can have large numbers of files/programs/browsing tabs all open at the same time, flicking between them to get things done quicker.  On a few odd occasions, I do use more intensive programs such as photo editing, web design, video editing etc.
From the research I have done I believe that a faster processor would only really benefit me in some of the more intensive tasks such as a video conversion. Now I know a professional video editor would the quickest conversions if they are doing it all the time, but for me, because this sort of task is quite infrequent, I can handle it taking an extra 10 minutes to convert something. What I couldn't deal with is for these applications to be slow and draggy in their overall usage.
For the RAM, I guess this would be a lot more useful for me, in terms of the multi-tasking applications and files? My existing laptop (albiet old and cluttered) is a Windows 7 with Core i5 dual core and 4GB ram. I have sometimes found when opening significant numbers of tabs, it tells me I am out of memory, or the application windows will start failing to load/turning black screen etc). Things take a long time to open. This sort of thing, I find annoying!
If I get either upgrade it means spending £1050-£1150 on the Apple Store. If I don't need the upgrades, I can get hold of the standard MBA for just £850 from Tesco, and that's quite a saving that I would appreciate at the moment... but only if it doesnt result in a lower performance that I would notice.
So this is the first question - what sort of day to day tasks would a faster processor and/or extra RAM benefit, and would I likely notice this? What about for the heavier applications? Do you think from my comments above that I should bother with either?
    2. Using Windows apps
I've seen that you can run Windows programs on a Mac through Boot Camp or other software like Parallels. This would be really useful for me as I do have the odd program which is Windows-only and I would still need to use. However I have also been reading that doing this would significantly reduce performance/battery life on the Mac.
Does this mean that the Mac would have reduced performance/battery ALL of the time - even when Windows isn't being used, or does it just mean for the duration of time that you're actually logged into the Windows OS?
I can deal with slow performance whilst using Windows applications, as I don't intend on using the MBA as a full time Windows machine - but I would not want my battery/performance to suffer for the rest of the time when I am just running Mac stuff.
Any thoughts or experiences with this? And any tips on the best and most cheapest/efficient way to run Windows programs on a Mac?
    3. Other crucial tips on switching?
I have used Windows for 15-20 years and never had a mac, but with the new Windows 8 being completely rubbish especially without touch screen, I think now is a good time to make the change and give Mac a try.
I've given the topic a good bit of research and have an idea of what will be different between a PC and Mac, but if you have gone through "the switch" yourself and think you have any particularly good tips from personal experience - such as things I might find difficult in getting used to or things I will have to sacrifice, or things a Mac won't do that I could have done in Windows etc - then let me know so I dont get any nasty suprises
I realise this is a lot of questions and info but having read lots of reviews and articles I'd like to just get some Apple user feedback - straight from the horses mouth - as this is kind of a big step for me to make this change and I dont want to spend all that money and regret it!
    Thanks so much!
    Danielle

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    >>Running bootcamped Win7, yes power consumption is more, a lot more,....indications are no.
Sorry, can you clarify on this one - do you mean the power consumption is more DURING the use of Windows, or ALL of the time (even when using the Mac as normal with OSX).... also what did you mean by indications?
    >>From the parameters of what you say your use would be, Id recommend the I5 with 8gig of ram. the 12 hour >>batt. life is only rated for the 13" on the I5, ....not the I7.
Sounds like my first guess was about right - and good point about the battery life - as that is something that's quite important to me!
    >>The "switch" is extremely easy. Ive seen grandmothers switch to a MAC and have its 'everyday use' >>conquered in under a week. So, you should have no worries, its extremely user friendly, no worries of virus, >>etc.
Glad to hear I've done more research and already seen a few features I can see myself preferring a lot more to the Windows system!
    >>As a former computer repairman, Ive owned nearly 200 diff. laptops (many were free, or Franken-computers >>built from parts) and I can honestly say the Macbook AIR is the finest piece of beloved hardware Ive ever >>owned by a mile.
    >>Many people incorrectly see the THIN nature of the Air and incorrectly conjecture its "less than" a full laptop, >>but the contrary is the case.
Nah, I don't associate size with performance - especially these days, everything is getting smaller. My concerns are really just about whether to upgrade for extra performance, and using the OS - once I have those nailed I am pretty cofident the hardware will perform well.
    >>Additionally the AIR is the only Mac that has 802AC wifi, new Haswell cool-running processor, and extremely >>long 12 Hr. batt life on the I5 13" configuration.
Yeah that battery life is one of the big sellers
    Cheers for the tips,
    Danielle
