AIR-ANT2430V-R & AIR-ANT5140V-R height limitation

Hi,
Can anybody provide me any information regarding height limitation for installing the above ceiling mounted antennas.  And is there a separation between the 2 antennas when mounted in the ceiling.

mcaoile: we value you rate useful replies.
You can use triangle laws.
You have to keep in your mind that as the beamwidth is only 60 degrees, and depending on the height of the AP, the users standing directly under the AP or close to the point directly under the AP may not get proper signal. The reason why is the AP is not senidng the signal directly below it.
Triangle laws can tell you for specific AP height, at what horizontal distance (approximate) the users can get proper signal.
One relationship between the AP height and horizontal distance can be
tan (VBW/2) = H/L
where
VBW: vertical beam width.
H = AP height.
L = horitontal length of the AP signal.
suppose we put the AP at height 7 meters with vertical beamwidth of 60 degrees and we want to know what horizontal distance the users will start getting good coverage. Now the equation will be:
tan (60/2) = 7/L
L = 7/tan(30)
L =~ 7/0.577
L =~ 12 meters.
Now, if the AP is at 7 meter height you know users at 12 meters distance from the AP will get proper signal. (7 - 11 meters from the AP may probably still get adequate signal. (practically, real distance may be 1/3 or 1/2 closer to the AP. If AP height is close enough to the calculated L that may indicate you can get good signal just under the AP).
This is optimal claclulation but in practice you'll surely find closer users are getting also good signal. However, 12 meters guarantees good signal. moving closer to the AP than 12 meters will cause signal degradation gradually until (possibly) you reach a point where signal is not that good. Depending on the antenna and the height you may reach blind area closer to the AP with no RF signal.
Using same equaiton with 60 degrees VBM, we'll find that:
If AP put at
3 meters height then L =~ 5.2 m.
2 meters height then L =~ 3.5 m.
10 meters height then L =~ 17.3 m.
With 3 meters height you may get adequate signal starting
Hope this is useful to you.

Amjad

  • Overcoming 50 pica height limitation in tables

    I'm laying out a table in InDesign that has a series of very long vertical columns. Every time I try to extend the length of the columns, I get a message saying that the height measurement must be no more than 50 picas. Is there a workaround or command override that would allow me to increase the vertical length of the columns?
    Yes, I could simply create another row (and will do so if there's no other choice), but then I'd have to make sure there was no discrepancy in leading between the last text entry in the top row, and the first entry in the second.
    I'm curious as to why there's a height limitation in the first place.
    Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

    In the Cell options you can put in a new value. There must be some outer limit but I don't know what it is.

  • Can I use a Time Capsule for ADDITIONAL storage for a Mac Air which has run limited storage space

    Hi
    I am looking at purchasing the current MacBook Air but am aware of its limited storage space in terms of files, photos etc.
    Was wondering if I could use a time Capsule for both back-up and as an additional storage device.  Ie: would I be able to store photos and files on the Time Capsule that I do not wish to store on a MacBook Air and be able to retrieve them as and when - or would these be deleted after a period of time?  Is there any way of protecting certain files on the Time capsule to prevent them from being deleted?
    Many thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You can but it's not recommended, because you can damage the Time Machine structure.

    Only files backed up with Time Machine are deleted from your Time Capsule when there's no enough storage. If you store other files, they are not deleted. However, for what you want to do, I recommend you to buy a big external drive and make two partitions, one for Time Machine and another one to store files, or get two external drives

  • AIR vs. Web limitations?

    Is an AIR Desktop app limited to 256 colors and to the same limitations as Flash running in a web browser(i.e. fonts, bitmaps, web safe colors, transparency)? Since the published file will be running on a desktop, what concerns does one need to have regarding HTML protocol and browser issues. Do the same rules apply?

    I'd like an answer for this one too.  Thank you, "Media Kat" for posting the question.  I am a prototyper with a background in art and design, who has worked exclusively with Flash for nearly 13 years.  I'm currently working with AIR for Android, but my superiors and associates think AIR is going to die (along with the rest of Flash) and don't understand that simply "switching to HTML5" is not a very palatable answer.  It would be helpful to hear from someone "in the know" about the future of Flash.
    Thanks.
    P.S.  If someone from Adobe answers this, please don't BS me like they did at the last forum I attended at Adobe headquarters in San Jose.  We asked specifically if Flash and/oir Flex were dying and were assured that they had a long future... Three weeks before the announcement to kill it!  :-(

  • Layout Content Height limitation

    Greetings,
    I have tried unsuccessfully to increase the layout content height to over 1,000 px, however it seems there is a limitation of approximately 700 px. Does anybody know how to get around this, or am I just missing something?
    Thank you - Scott

    Scott:
    How are you trying to increase the height? Are you using the Inspector/Page/Layout pane?
    Click to view full size
    You should be able to go far beyond 700 using that method. Unless the theme you're using won't let you. Plain themes have no limitation. What theme are you using?
    One method you can try is to create an empty text box and drag it down. That will usually let you increase the page height. Some themes may not appear right if they have a fixed background height and use special files for the background.

    Yes.  That's the reason why this model has six (6) pig-tails.  It's in the release notes of the IOS.

  • MacBook AIR + Time Capsule + AppleTV

    Hi everyone
    These are my 3 Apple components (plus an ipod classic 80G)
    My idea was to keep all my music and movies in the Time Capsule (in a music and pictures folder previously created) and only my pictures in the MacBook AIR, due to its limited space... I would then tell itunes to add media from the Time Capsule (or I would drag to itunes)
    Everything seemed to work just fine for a few months, but lately I´m having quite some trouble
    It happens that sometimes I open itunes and it doesn´t find some or all of my media, when everything was fine when I previously closed itunes
    In preferences, I have the itunes music folder this way:
    Macintosh HD:users:xxx:music:itunes (all though as I said before music and movies are in the TC)
    The funny thing is that itunes can´t find the media (I get that sign to the left of the song´s name), but if I press play it does play it
    It wouldn´t bother me so much if it did also sync my apple tv and ipod without problem, but I get problems everytime
    Is ther a solution to this?
    Thanks for your help and time

    I don´t know what afp is, I will investigate on that, but it did work fine for a while and is working fine now (hope it lasts).... it got messed up with no reason a couple of weeks ago, I changed nothing, and it was a nightmare fixing everything because it takes forever to create a library with all this wifi going on, and then bucking up apple tv again, and go through that endless process about the "playing without pause"
    I just couldn´t go through all that again
    I´m really afraid this could happen again... Do you think mounting the TC using afp could be the solution?
    Thank you very much

  • Adobe Air 3.0 iOS streaming H264/Speex over RTMP -- No Video

    Problem:
    H264/Speex RTMP stream from Flash Media Server doesn't display video.  Audio plays fine.
    Conditions:
    Adobe Air 3.0
    iOS device (iPad 2, iOS4.3)
    App settings:
    <renderMode>direct</renderMode>
    Flash Builder 4.5.1 compiler settings:
    -swf-version=13
    -target-player=11.0.0
    I have tried using both stageVideo and the regular Video object to render an H264 signal streaming from Flash Media Server over rtmp, but with no luck.  I can hear the audio, but the video is never rendered.
    I CAN see H263 video when streamed over RTMP using this setup (with just the Video object).
    I can also stream a locally stored mp4 (H264/AAC) file over rtmp from the iOS device and play it locally just fine (using a stageVideo object).
    I have attempted this with both stageVideo (which works fine when streaming an mp4 file from the iOS device) and with the regular Video object (the regular Video object handles H263 just fine streaming down from FMS over rtmp).  I've also played around with backgroundAlpha = "0" for this case, all with no luck.
    I've followed all the online instructions and tutorials to get this working for the past week, but have not had any luck.  I'm happy to post more code, but this approach is fairly straight forward and has been described multiple times around these forums and in the adobe blog posts.  It goes like this:
         - instantiate NetConnection (_nc) to FMS and wait for successful connection:
                   _ns = new NetConnection();
                   _nc.connect(serverAddress);
         - instantiate NetStream (_ns) and connect using NetConnection:
                   _ns = new NetStream(_nc);
         - setup listener for StageVideoAvailabilityEvent; if stageVideo becomes available, attach _ns:
                  _stageVideo = stage.stageVideos[0];
                  _stageVideo = _stageVideo.attachNetStream(_ns);
         - if stageVideo ISN'T available, fall back to Video object:
                   _video = new Video();
                   _video.attachNetStream(_ns);
                   stage.addChild(_video);
         - play netStream app:
                   _ns.play(appName);
    My renderMode is set correctly ("direct"), and from what I can tell, this isn't a backgroundAlpha issue.
    I have seen this problem described elsewhere on this forums and on the net.
    I'd like to know from Adobe: are there any compatibility issues with this approach?  There doesn't seem to be any type of compatibility chart listing which video codecs and transport protocols are available on the different mobile platforms.  Since mobile deployment is so heaviliy fragmented, a descriptive chart or table like this would be helpful for those of us developing -- at least for the main mobile platforms predominantly in use.

    Thanks in advance!

    I do hope someone from Adobe is "hearing" this, guys. The lack of RTMP-based H.264 video on the Air for iOS is a major problem, indeed.
    As Fabio Sonnati mentioned in http://sonnati.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/air-2-6-for-ios-and-video-play back/, AIR for iOS does support HTTP streaming (via HLS) of h.264 videos. However, when streaming via RTMP, AIR for iOS only supports VP6 and Spark – a couple of old, retired codecs.
    While HTTP streaming (HLS) seems to be a good option for those who simply want to “play a video” in iOS, I do believe it has some severe limitations, especially for live-communications. I’d like to share some of these thoughts with you.
    1. HLS has ridiculously high latency for live videos (around 40 seconds), when compared to RTMP. Although this may not be a problem for on-demand videos, it sure is a great problem for anyone doing serious live-communications applications (such as webconferencing, live webcasting with audience interaction or Skype-like video chats), which require near-zero latency.
    2. Perhaps someone can correct me on this (hopefully!), but as far as I know, HTTP streaming will not allow cuepoints to be read from videos. This is particularly painful for anyone doing video-triggered actions, such as slide changes (for webinar apps), subtitling or live closed captioning, etc. I read somewhere that OSMF player allows cuepoints (or "temporal metadata". See http://blogs.adobe.com/osmf/2009/11/cue_point_support_in_osmf.html), but I haven't been able to test it myself.
    3. Although HLS it is quite compatible with firewalls (since it flows through port 80), RTMP with tunnelling also flows through port 80 or 443, which adds great compatibility, even on very restricted networks. Our experience with very large clients proves that, hands down.
    In other words, HTTP/HLS streaming is Ok. But it simply does *not* fit into every shoe that RTMP does. We do believe that RTMP remains as our best option for live streaming or serious streaming-oriented *apps* (in which things more complex than “mere video playing in a window” actually happen).
    That all said, I do believe we should let Adobe know about this need. The fact that RTMP streaming in AIR for iOS is limited to VP6 and Spark, which are two “dead” codecs, still puts us, Air developers, in a very fragile position in terms of what we can accomplish with video in iOS.
    I’m sure some of you cheered when you heard about Flash Player 11 having h.264 video encoding. This, (plus the echo cancellation feature that came in 10.3) opened great doors for great Unified-Communication applications to be developed for Flash/Air. Now, it’s undeniable that clients want those applications running on tablets, especially the iPad.
    Not being able to use h.264 via RTMP on iOS is certainly a huge step backwards. Anyone shares this same opinion? What do you guys believe to be the best option to let Adobe really know about this need? Is this limitation a simple lack-of-a-feature (which can be fixed by Adobe) or is this some imposed thing by Apple?
    Just one final note: Air for Android does *not* have the same limitation. It does allow RTMP streaming of h.264.

    Helder Conde

    new help with my mac air and airport extreme time capsule dont know how to save to time capsule and use as a external hd would like 2 store my home videos and pictures on the time machine (ONLY) as the MAC AIR has storage space limited space please help. THANK YOU.

    See the info here about sharing or using the TC for data.
    Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
    It is extremely important you realise.. the Time Capsule was never designed for this.
    It is a backup target for Time Machine.. that is the software on the computer that does backups.. it has no direct connection to the Time Capsule.
    It has no ability to back itself up.. unlike all other NAS in the market. It is therefore likely one day you will lose all your files unless you seriously work out how to backup.
    The TC is slow to spin up the hard disk and fast to spin down. iTunes and iPhoto will continually lose connection to their respective libraries.
    iPhoto in particular is easy to corrupt when you move photos over wireless into the library.. once corrupted all is corrupt. A single photo will ruin it all.. so backup is utterly essential.
    Time Machine cannot do backups of network drives. ie the TC. You will need a different backup software like CCC. You will then need another target to backup to..

    Hi i managed to create a new window and add a pdf to it :
    var pdf = new air.HTMLLoader();
    pdf.height = 600;

  • Pismo drives -- different heights?

    Recently removed the 18GB Toshiba drive that came with my Pismo when I originally bought it. It measures 11mm or 7/16" high.
    Yesterday I picked up a Nexxtech portable hard drive enclosure (model NHDE25) with a USB 2.0 connection, just so I could use the drive for some extra, portable storage. The enclosure was only 6 bucks (Criag's List), so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it -- but no matter how closely I follow the installation instructions, and how snugly it fits into place, it still protrudes a couple of millimetres too high, and there's no way the top portion of the enclosure will snap into place.
    Clearly, the enclosure is designed to hold a drive of the same length and width (the screw holes line up just fine), but one that's at least 2 millimetres thinner. Yet I can't find anything in either the printed manual or the accompanying pdf that mentions anything about the drive's maximum height.
    So did these 2.5" drives in fact come in different heights? Or does anyone familiar with this kind of NexxTech drive enclosure know how I might get this 11mm peg into an 8-9mm hole?
    Thanks,
    John Bertram
    Toronto

    Thanks for the above. I found a pdf online for the drive, and it does indeed give the height as 12.5mm, as you said. I'll definitely consider that option of just getting a larger capacity (+ thinner) drive, since I'm not sure how much I still trust the old 18GB one.
    Even so, I wish NexxTech et al would be a lot clearer in their documentation -- and even right on their packaging -- about the "height limitations" for these 2.5" drive enclosures. I can't believe I'm the only human still trying to squeeze out some use from one of these older (i.e. "thicker") drives -- but then again, maybe I am!
    In any case, thanks for clearing up my confusion about the size differences.
    Cheers,
    jb

    2) Also, are there any plans for directional (patch) antennas for the

    3) Can you use different model antennas on the same 1252 Access Point?
    4) We currently conduct site surveys using AirMagnet Survey Pro using

    Does Cisco Aironet currently have a MIMO client adapter? If not, when

    What switches are capable of powering both radios simultaneously?

    Let me give this a shot...
    1) These antenna are 3 antennas built into one unit
    a) Antenna choice also depends on how you want to mount the antenna. Ceiling mount or the use of di-poles.
    2) From what I heard they will eventually, but no date as of yet.
    3) You have to use all three of the same antennas on the radio. You can't mix different gain antennas on the 1252....
    4) Cisco is not making anymore wifi cards. They have been working closely with Intel with the draft 2.0 standard.
    5) Until the 802.11N is a standard, you will not see anything being certified.
    6) Sparco Technologies has a batter pack that will power the 1252 for around 6 hours 40 minutes. You can also use this to power up the other ap's. Ask for Nathan.

    Hi
    I have created an iview from a PAR file. In the par file I have a jsp-page with some javascript code. From the javascript coe I want to open a new window with an Excel file.
    I have tried window.open("c:
    test.xls", "test_window"), but it doesn't seem to work. I have created a small HTML page locally with the same command and there a new window opens with the Excel file.
    If I change the local file path with an URL it also works.
    Any idea how to open a local file ?
    Thanks
    /Jakob

    Jacob,
    I'm not 100% (but 99,9%) and it has to do with security ristrictions of the browser not allowing to have local workstation interation from the web. This is ofcourse very dangerous if the browser would allow it... So therfore it is blocked. What if somone would point to a file/executable that formats your drive so for that reason it is not allowed to have web interaction with a local file. Only with Java Applets this is possible but still with many limitations, and what I remember Google Gears and Adobe Air do have some limited web 2 local file interaction... So best and most simple solution you are left with is pointing to a url instead of a file on a c:\ drive.
    PS The reason why it works when you start the html from your local PC has todo with the fact that the browser detects that the html is not running in the web at that moment therefor allowing the access.
    Cheers,
    Benjamin Houttuin

  • How to use time capsule as an external wireless hard drive?

    I have the latest version of time capsule and would like to use it not only for backups but also to save some files that I don't want to keep in my Macbook Air, which is very limited in terms of storage. Is it possible?

    Here is my general list.
    Store files on the TC.
    This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
    The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
    Major issues.
    1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
    2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
    3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no control. In fact the TC is so lacking in controls for even the router side.. that you cannot do more than the most basic of setups.
    The following are controls on the hard disk side.
    Reformat it. You can name the share. You can do a full archive of the whole disk. This will go at a speed of aprox. 30-50GB/Hr so calculate how long an archive of a full 2TB will take.
    4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
              Even apple btw say don’t do it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168 Although mostly about FAT32           it adds network drives.
    5. iTunes can constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
    6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
    7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.
    Read pondini for some work arounds.
