AIR Runtime 2.5.1 - Camera bug

With AIR runtime 2.5.1, no cameras are found on Mac and Windows. (Application built with Flex SDK 4.1 and AIR SDK 2.5)
This is a very very severe bug.
Is there any workaround? How many hours until Adobe will release an emergency fix 2.5.2? Is there anyone else with a solution?

Hello,
I'm sorry you've run into this problem with the camera api.  It's been reported in this thread (and entered into our database) and we're actively looking into it.  However, I've only been able to reproduce this on the Mac.  Are you seeing this occur on Windows too?
I don't have a time/date for the next release available, so in the interim I would suggest rolling back to AIR 2.5.  Our archive page also contains a link to the Settings Manager tool that allows you to temporarily disable auto update.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, we'll get this fixed asap!

  • Adobe AIR runtime update dialog breaks application

    I'm working on a large project that utilizes a C++ application to house the core logic and an AIR application to display a UI. The C++ program launches the AIR UI and passes it several command line parameters, including locale and port number to call back to the C++ application with.  Under normal circumstances, this works great.
    However, when there's an Adobe AIR runtime update, things go bad.  The runtime intercepts the UI invocation, kills it, and displays the generic AIR "do you want to update?" dialog.  Whether the user presses update or cancel, the UI application eventually gets relaunched -- but without the command line parameters originally passed to it!  I presume this is a bug in the Adobe AIR runtime updater code.
    The end result of this is that the UI gets relaunched, but doesn't know how to localize itself or what port to call back to the C++ application with!  If the user relaunches, it works fine (because the update dialog won't intercept again), but by then the user experience has already been mangled.  We can't even display a localized error message to tell them to relaunch because we don't know what locale they're using any more, and we can't call back to the C++ application to ask.
    I'm trying to find solutions/workarounds to this issue.  Because AIR won't let us turn off the update check on a per-application basis, it seems like the only viable solution would be to turn off the runtime update check for the whole machine.  But altering machines settings for the benefit of one application is definitely bad form, and I'd prefer not to do that if any other viable workaround exist.
    Any ideas?

    I filed a bug report last night using that same form.
    The duplication steps are straightforward.  I can duplicate the following with 100% success on a freshly imaged Win 7 32-bit box, admin user account:
    1) Install older version of Adobe AIR framework (I tried both 1.1 and 1.5.1).  It will ask you to update.  Click "Update later".
    2) Pull up task manager and watch the process list
    3) Run ANY Adobe AIR app with some parameters (I used Adobe's Settings Manager as a sample because it's small)
    4) Note that your application appears in the task manager briefly
    5) Your app is terminated and "Adobe Air Installer.exe" appears in the task manager.  A dialog pops up asking you to update.
    6) Click cancel
    7) Your app is reinvoked without any parameters
    As for my specific case, by "session" I do mean a single launch.
    I'm not aware of an evoke event -- perhaps you meant invoke event?  The invoke event is not executing before the app terminates (in step 5 above).  I think the AIR app is just running long enough to load the runtime and then the runtime takes over from there.
    Thanks...

  • OSMF in AIR has video disapper when switching to fullscreen using AIR runtime 3.8 and above

    We have an application that loads StrobeMediaPlayback in an AIR application to play videos. But once we've upgraded to AIR runtime 3.8 and above, the fullscreen stops working: video is missing but audio is still playing. This is reported to be happening to our users using Windows that 64-bit and a few reports with 32-bit Windows (ie Win7 and Win8).
    Looking at it closely, it looks like the StageVideo introduced to AIR desktop from AIR 3.8+ runtime was causing the problem. I can disable stageVideo in the player (OSMFSettings.enableStageVideo = false) and it can work fine (or turn off hardware acceleration in the computer). But the real problem I think is that the StageVideoAvailibiltyEvent is not returning the correct value if the machine really supports StageVideo or not. This looks like a bug in AIR runtime.

    Could you please open a new bug report on this over at https://bugbase.adobe.com?  When adding the bug, please include some sample code or a sample application so we can quickly test this out internally.  If you'd like to keep this private, feel free to email the attachment to me directly ([email protected]).
    Once added, please post back with the URL so that others effected can add their comments and votes.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Adobe Air runtime auto-update

    Adobe Air runtime auto-updates itself without any notification or request on my Mac OSX 10.6.7 machine. I do not like this behavior. Is there any way to change it?

    Please see our Disable automatic updates of the runtime document.  However, please be aware that our updates include both new functionality and bug and security fixes.  I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye out for future releases and manually installing if you disable the updates.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe AIR - Inconsistencies in detecting whether Adobe AIR runtime is installed

    Hello Flex community,
    I am having issues with detecting whether Adobe AIR is installed  using the following process: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=distributing_apps_3.html
    Having installed Adobe AIR 1.5, we are at times getting a value of  not installed from the getStatus() function of the air.swf located at  http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf
    Has anyone else faced this issue before? If so, does anyone have any  steps to resolve it?
    Thanks!
    Mauricio

    After doing some more research on the issue, I have found other users encountering the same issue we are:
    http://groups.google.com/group/air-tight/browse_thread/thread/706716c29caf0254
    http://www.flexdeveloper.eu/forums/adobe-air/air-swf%27s-getstatus-method-mistakenly-retur ns-%27available%27-when-air-is-installed/
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/435935
    In the second thread, it says:
    “My issue seems to be specifically related to the use of "Silent Install". My client has a distribution license for the AIR runtime and is bundling the AIR installer with their installer. When Silent Install is used to install the AIR Runtime, Adobe's air.swf reports that the runtime is not installed. This happens until the user initiates an air app, at which point air.swf is able to detect the runtime installation.””
    This seems to suggest there is a bug with the Silent Installer or with the air.swf getStatus function. I tried the steps above and was able to recreated and resolve the issue. Does anyone else know of a different workaround?

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Can't finish installing Air Runtime Process, and Can't open New Project!

    Hey guys,
         I'm having some major issues installing PE8.  I can open the installer screen fine, and it installs fine until it gets to installing the Air Runtime Process.  I have left it downloading that one process for about 5 hours, and i'm not exaggerating.  Finnally, I get too mad waiting for it to finish that I exit out of the installation process.  Even though the installation was never fully finished, for some reason I do have a Desktop icon for PE8.  I click on that and it opens the splash screen with the buttons "New project", "Open Project", and "Organize".  When I try to open "New Project" it begins loading the files that it needs to to open it.  When it gets to loading the Windows Media file, it freezes and then crashes.
         I have uninstalled the PE8 and reinstalled it about 5 times now.  I have also used the Windows Cleanup program to clean these corrupted files out of my system before reinstalling.  I have called in twice now to the technical support and they haven't helped me one ounce.  Any answers would be appreciated!  Thanks
    Thanks Again,
    Spencer

    Hello,
    I have the exact same problem as you with PE8 and Win7 (x64), and a reboot also helped me. But the problem came back the next time I tried to open PE. Have you expreienced the same? It cant be that we have to reboot every time we want to use PE?

  • AIR Runtime version comparison / updating

    Question #1: Is there any built in function, that could
    compare AIR runtime versions. I know the current runtimeversion
    that the user has, and I know the version that I developed for. Now
    I would like to make sure that the user has the same or newer
    version of the runtime.
    I can split the runtime version by the periods and compare
    each chunk seperatly, byt maybe there is some function in AIR that
    would handle it for me?
    Question #2: How to update the air runtime? Should I
    air.navigateToUrl() the user to :
    http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-AIR
    or
    http://get.adobe.com/air/?promoid=BUIGQ
    and quit the app?

    If it will be of any help to anyone, I came up with this for
    now:
    // Returns false if v2 is greater than v1
    // v1,v2 - version numer, period separated, ie. "1.1.0.7876"
    function compareVerions(v1,v2)
    v1 = v1.split(".");
    v2 = v2.split(".");
    if (v1.length>v2.length) var cnt = v2.length-1; else var
    cnt = v1.length-1;
    for (var i=0; i<=cnt; i++) {
    var elV1 = parseInt(v1
    var elV2 = parseInt(v2);
    if ( elV1>elV2 ) return true;
    if ( elV1<elV2 ) return false;
    return true;

  • Any way to install AIR runtime on HTC MyTouch 3G Slide?

    Hello,
    I see on the list of certified devices that the HTC MyTouch is listed.
    http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/certified_devices/smartphones.html
    It's not clear whether this implies support for the MyTouch 3G Slide. I have the Slide, and I have done the manual upgrade to 2.2.1 (Froyo). My phone can run Flash animations, so I think the 2.2.1 upgrade came with a built in Flash player of sorts.
    I cannot find the Adobe Air runtime in the Android Market, and I'm not able to install the runtime through adb on the command line either. Moreover, navigating to market.android.com on the phone in the browser and pulling up the AIR runtime displays an error that my device is not supported.
    I think the Slide has an ARM6 based processor, which could be the issue, but that doesn't explain why the MyTouch is listed in the certified devices. I undersand there are a few different MyTouch models, but I don't think any of them will be higher performance than the 3G Slide -- all of the MyTouch phones are entry level phones. Could it be that the MyTouch listed in the certified devices list is a new 4G model? Am I missing something?
    Regardless, I am not able to install the AIR runtime on my phone.
    Anyone have suggestions, or is it not possible to install the AIR runtime on the MyTouch 3G Slide running Froyo?
    Thanks in advance.

    That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming that.
    If anyone from Adobe is reading this, it seems that the list of certified devices should list the HTC MyTouch explicitly as the MyTouch 4G since there are a lot of MyTouch 3G devices (including, but not limited to the MyTouch 3G Slide) that are apparently not supported for AIR.
    The list of certified devices I'm talking about is here:

  • Air runtime distribution for mac os

    Hi i am ravi, i have developed an air applcation along with runtime distribution it works fine on windows, but when i try to install it on MAC it is installing AIR runtime only not the air application i need to install AIR application seperately again. i included air application name in .airinsatll.cfg file still it's not working, i got the licence for distributing runtime .....

    Thank you for your response, Ron!
    Let me see if I understand you correctly. I believe that what you are saying, in part, is that Arachnophila probably would not work very well with OS 9.0, because the heavy Java requirements for Arachnophilia are more than what 9.0 was designed to handle. Have I got it right so far?
    In any case -- laying Arachnophilia aside for the moment -- what I am really looking for is an HTML editor that I can also use as a general text editor, in place of the Simple Text program that came pre-intalled on my computer. One that I heard of, and I have also been told was very good, was called Simple Edit, and was produced by a company called Evatac. Unfortunately, however, as far as I have been able to tell, the Evatac company is no longer in business and Simple Edit is no longer availble for download anywhere.
    If you need an HTML Editor I can look one up for you,
    just ask.
    Would you please do that, Ron? I would really appreciate!
    Thank you very much once again!
    Smile and the whole world smiles with you!

  • Debugger keeps asking to update AIR runtime on device

    Flash Builder 4.5.1
    AIR 3 SDK
    HTC Desire Z
    hi,
    everytime I compile/debug a mobile project to my  Desire Z phone, I get this popup telling
    me that I don't have the AIR3 runtime. No matter if I click yes or no, it keeps doing that,
    and then it takes about 15 secs eah time before the app is actually installed on the device.
    When I check the AIR runtime on my phone, it's the 3.0.0.388 version.
    Could this be a bug?
    Jeff.

    Try setting up the phone, going to Settings > General > Software Update on the phone, and updating from there.

  • Can you please drop licensing fees for Air runtime on BlackBerry OS?

    BlackBerry is about to drop their built-in support of Air on BB10 operating system V10.3.1 and I am told it is due to the cost around licensing issues. Developers are being told to package their Apps as APKs with captive runtime and I would have no issue with that if it actually worked properly!
    APKs with captive runtime do not behave correctly, there are some weird bugs:
    Keyboard support does not work properly - I have a game that when packaged as an APK none of the keyboard buttons do anything on any BlackBerry with a keyboard. I noticed if I paired a BT keyboard, the arrow buttons work but nothing else...
    Whats the deal with keyboard buttons not working with Air captive runtime, yet it works with the Air runtime built into the OS??
    I'm aware the drop in built-in OS runtime support is pretty much a done deal, but can you at least fix bugs like that keyboard bug in your AIR runtime and prioritize this? There are loads of apps that are about to die in about a month or so due to issues like this and developers are getting fed up.
    Here is a thread on the BlackBerry forums where people are complaining: https://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Adobe-AIR-Development/It-s-OFFICIAL-Adobe-AIR-supp ort-dropped-from-10-3-1/td-p/2855618

    Hi ;-)
    1) I have used LR since V1 and since V4 this software along with ALL adobes software has been fiercely deteriorating.
    2) Adobe according to themselves ARE reading and responding to these forums... Unless they support pages are as bull as their "alleged" real human behind a chat ;-)
    3) I process around 30,000 images per week in Lightroom (paid work) and let me tell you at that amount of images... This app is not in the pro league... BUT it COULD be... If only adobe would test their software prior to embarkin on the PAYING public... Perhaps because so manu are using pirated versions of adobes software, they have stopped caring.. As a long time paying client I feel *****-slapped !@
    I do NOT beta test for adobe ! If they wanna get rid of their bugs, all they need to do is to contact me and add me to the list.. That will fix at least 100 bugs currently IN the ware... But I highly doubt that they beta test this software... If they do, they should REALLY skim thru their testers and relieve them of their duty - No personal offence meant !

  • Adobe AIR Runtime Redistribution and Native Installer

    Will there be new instructions for Adobe AIR 2.0 Runtime Redistribution? In particular, I'm looking for instructions on how to use the runtime redistribution installer to perform a "side-car installation" of AIR 2 alongside an application that uses the NativeProcess API (and so must be built into a native installer instead of a .air file).
    Thanks!

    Thirded!
    On a test deployment using SCCM and the supplied Adobe AIR Runtime Installer files, we have managed to install our application with the 1.5.3 Air Framework with no major issues other than having to disable the Auto Update feature that doesnt really work in a corporate environment.  Everything was absolutely fine until the release of AIR 2.  Now, the test machines are prompted to install the updated Adobe Air 2 framework once a week, see an excerpt from an Adobe blog post below:
    "In addition, once a week AIR apps check to see if an AIR update is available, and if so, users are presented with the option to update to the most up‐to‐date version, helping to ensure that end users get the benefits of improved security and performance."
    That sounds great right?  Except my users (like many other corporate users) don't have Admin permissions on their machines (hence the use of SCCM), with the result being resultant error messages when a user attemptes to install the AIR framework update without the necessary permissions.
    All of the above would be fine if the Adobe AIR Runtime Installer files were updated to include the latest version of the runtime.  This of course hasn't been done yet - does anyone know when this may happen?  Can anyone help me with this or offer any advice?
    I hope the above makes sense and I would really appreciate any help or advice!
    Thanks!

  • Whats the difference between the Flash Player runtime and Adobe AIR runtime?

    Hey all. I've been into coding for about 5 years now, but I'm a recent convert to Flash development. One of the questions I have at the moment is, considering that SWF files can be run by either Adobe Flash Player OR Adobe AIR, what's the real difference between the two runtime environments? What API's and Objects exist in one environment, but not the other?
    Basically what I'm more or less trying to establish is, when would I want to develop an SWF for AIR, and when would I want to develop for Flash Player, considering that Flash Player can also execute locally (providing support for creating "desktop applications").
    Thanks in advance,
                               Jay.

    Main Difference for the user: he also has to install the AIR runtime, that is about 15MB (Flash Plugin won`t do the job alone).
    The market penetration for AIR is way below that of flash, so your user needs a good reason to install the Runtime
    Also the System requirements are much more harder, you can`t use an Air application in XPSP1 for example.
    As a rule of thumb you could say: Use Air, if you want to have the user something saved locally, with AIR you have the possibility to write any fileformat to hard disk, with flash you can only use so called Local shared objects
