Airdrop not working (cannot see nearby machine)

I cannot see any icons of my nearby machine going from my Macbook Air (2011) with Yosemite to a new Air with Yosemite. (Nor the reverse)
Both wifi and BT are enabled. What else needs to be done to prepare for transfers.
I've scoured the internet. Every site just says to start by dropping on the icons. But I have none to drop on.
(On the second machine it at least asks me to enable users from contacts, etc. ON mine nada)

When you select AirDrop, OS X looks for other Mac computers and devices that are nearby that also use AirDrop. If you don't see someone in the AirDrop window, here are some things to check.
Preventing senders
You can prevent people you don't know from sending you files, or you can allow everyone. If you don't see a recipient in the AirDrop window, they might only accept files from people who in their Contacts list. Ask them to add you in their Contacts app, or have them select the option "Allow me to be discovered by: Everyone" in the AirDrop window.Sending files to and from an older Mac
If a Mac you're using with AirDrop was manufactured before 2012, you can send and receive files with other Mac computers.
On the sending Mac, click "Don't see who you're looking for" in the AirDrop window.
Select the option to "Search for an Older Mac."
On the receiving Mac, open a new Finder window and click AirDrop in the sidebar.
Tips for sending files
Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your Mac and your iOS device. Although you don't have to connect to a specific network, Wi-Fi needs to be on to send and receive files using AirDrop.
Move your devices closer together. AirDrop is designed to work within a range of approximately 30 feet (9 meters). If you need to send a file to someone farther away, consider using File Sharing, iCloud, or email instead.
If you're using a firewall on your Mac, you won't be able to receive AirDrop files if you have enabled "Block all incoming connections" in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences.
Make sure your devices meet system requirements for AirDrop.
System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector 
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network. 
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
For help identifying your Mac, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. You can refer to the Apple Support website to find out if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch includes a lightning connector.

  • Bridge Raw not working, cannot see Raw image in Bridge

    The RAW setting in Bridge is not working. When I open Bridge I can see only icons, no images. The RAW tool icon is grey, not active. I am going on a trip Tomorrow and I need Bridge to be working. It was working earlier.

    version, I will be able to open it and see the image in Bridge.
    The problem is that now if I shoot 100 pictures, I can open Bridge but
    there are no thumbnail images, only CR2 and file name.
    I hope this can clarify the problem. Camera and software have not been
    changed.

  • AirDrop not working on supported machines

    Hey guys!
    I have a problem getting AirDrop to work on two supported machines. I double checked with the system requirements and both are able to run AirDrop, both display the icon in the Finder and both seem to start looking for other Macs once you click on the icon. Neither of them can find the other Mac though, regardless of how close the two are to each other. Even standing right beside one another, my 2009 24 inch iMac (9,1) cannot see my 2009 13.3 inch MacBook Pro and vice versa. I also tried my mom's 13.3 inch MacBook Pro, same exact model as mine and it's not working either, same problem, both machines are looking for other hardware but cannot see any.
    Network works flawlessly for every other operation so I don't really think that this could be the problem, either.
    Both computers have the latest software updates installed.
    Hope someone can help. Cheers.

    Same thing for me, MacBookPro 2011 and Air 2011, they can't see each other. Anyone have a clue?

    My iphone5 does not connect with my ipad air on bt or airdrop, ipad can see iphone but iphone do not pair with any device
    I try hard reset, alter settings but won't work.
    It seems to be a bug on ios 7.1
    So sad because either I should use iCloud for exchange files Or with itunes

    Also having same problems as above, AirDrop not working between iPhones or iPads from iPhoto. On same WiFi, blue tooth searching for devices but not connecting. Tried hard reset, checked privacy settings, icon is there, blinks when pressed, but no other activity. Have used AirDrop previously many times with no problems, now nothing. Machines and iOS all up to date.
    Off to work, hope someone can come up with some solution.

    The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

    Existing environment is AD 2012. gpupdate /force command does not working in some client machine. And it's occur randomly. Error shown about 15-20% of client machine. Please suggest. Hopefully this time get reply from community.

    Thanks for your reply. basically this error occurs with in same location as well as branch location. i have check event log in AD but not got any specific error. AD health status is ok. AD to AD synchronization also working well. All the client machine running
    on windows 7 64 bit and few of them are windows 8. 
    Please suggest. if you need any event log for analysis i can send you.

    I recommend you examine the event logs upon an affected client machine. Specifically, look for the surrounding events on that machine (both System, and Application logs), for the hours previous and the hour after.
    The time period may vary according to your environment (e.g. what is expected/normal for your environment, your configured GP refresh cycle-time).
    e.g., are there network drops, or power drops, or system crashes, restarts at the similar time.
    if it's a laptop, is it wireless? Was there a transition from wireless to wired operation?
    Is there VPN in use?
    If you are able to compare with another machine (I would encourage that), to understand what "normal" looks like in the logs, so that you have some kind of baseline data for comparison.
    Other checks, maybe confirm that the machines are updating as required (have the relevant WindowsUpdates etc), and consider if some security/protection/firewall software might be interfering with normal Windows operations.
    Also the potential for malware or virus, which can disturb many basic services (ensure a scan is performed and returns clean).
    If you have the opportunity for an affected user to contact you urgently when the symptom occurs, check that the gpt.ini file is accessible from their PC.
    e.g.: \\example.net\sysvol\example.net\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB
    984F9}\gpt.ini
    This file is hosted within the replicated SYSVOL share on your DC's, so check that it is accessible.
    You might also validate the particular GPO this refers to, and check each of your DC's holds the correct copy of the files for that GPO GUID.
    If you open that GPO, and perform a minor change to it (e.g. add a comment), then click Apply, OK, this should cause the GPO contents to replicate an updated version (be cautious, depending upon the nature of that GPO !!!)

    I'm trying to get Continuity working on my Mac but I'm not having any luck. Handoff and AirDrop are working well on my iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2 but it just won't work with the Mac.
    It's a 2012 model MacBoo Pro with Retina Display running the latest version of OS X Yosemite. Both of my other devices are running iOS 8.1 and I'm logged in to my iCloud on everything. I've tried signing out if iCloud on the Mac, turning Bluetooth off and on, turning Handoff off and on again on, restarting the Mac but no luck. I'm receiving texts on the Mac and phone calls so my Mac is connected to my iPhone in some sense but that's about it.
    I'm also having problems with Notification Center. I'm trying to add the Reminders widget to the Today view but whenever I add it nothing appears.
    I'm unable to make any changes to my Notifications in Settings either. I use Magic Prefs and every time I start my Mac a notification pops up saying it's active so I go to settings and turn them off and when I log in again I get the same message. This didn't used to happen in OS X Mavericks so I don't know why I can't change it now (I'm guessing it's a compatibility issue but just thought I'd mention it).
    Anyone got any solutions to my problems? Would really appreciate some help. Cheers

  • Why is airdrop not working?

    I've just updated to OS X Yosemite on my 2010 MBP and on my 2012 iMac. Previously, with Mavericks, Airdrop worked fine.
    Now I can't get the computers to see each other in Airdrop. No other settings have been changed on either computer or on my network.
    Any ideas???

    Would I lose all the photos on the IPhone? My initial intent, when I discovered I could AirDrop videos (which cannot go into PhotoStream) was to transfer them onto my iPad. My phone was almost full and wouldn't let me take any more videos, so I deleted a bunch of old videos from the iPhone which were backed up on my external drive. But getting newer ones onto my iPad meant I could show them on the iPad  , and thus delete them from my iPhone to free up space.
    The videos i wanted to transfer are backed up on my external drive, but I don't think there is another way to transfer videos onto the iPad except thru AirDrop from the iPhone, correct?.
    I just found out that i cannot send a 22 sec. video from my iPhone to my daughter's iPhone through a text message, whereas I always could before. It's stuck on 'sending'.

    I have two new MBPs and I want to simply transfer a 1.8mb .jpg file, however, after requesting to send it to the other Mac it never gets the message asking if it wants to accept it, it simply does not see the file and the Airdrop progress icon just spins. Both Macs are on the same network and the connection is good.  Airdrops does see both Macs. Why is it not working?

    try this,
    make sure 2 macs are on the same network, not one on 802.11n and other on 802.11ac.
    go to system preferences - sharing, then make sure "file sharing" is checked, then click on "options", check "share files and folders using SMB" and "share files and folders using AFP", then relaunch finder.app.

    My mac is a 10.10.2 OS X Yosemite. I cannot get AirDrop to work.
    In the AirDrop box it says:  Air drop lets you share instantly with people nearby. 
    To share with someone using a Mac, ask them to go to airdrop in the finder.
    There is nothing else in the box.

    The best and as far as I know most useful info regarding set-up and use of AirDrop is the Help in the menu bar and enter AirDrop. Pretty straight forward.
    Now, if it was working and stopped after this update of 10.10.3 and IOS 8.3, as did mine, just sign out of iCloud on both devices and then sign into iCloud first on the Mac then the iPhone.

    using visual studio report uses charts.  works fine on development machine when I move the web app to a test machine which does NOT contain visual studio, the chart report does not worknote: other reports which only display data records work fine. the space where the charts should be displayed contain the following two lines CrystalReportViewer - CrystalReportViewer1 Error: Fail to render the page.  any help would be appreciated

    Solution suggested worked for me. 
    On my test server Crystal was trying to use the c:\temp directory to write the temporary images, my report always ran ok on the test server.  On the live server CRW was running under with the ASPNET account and / or my own user account. 
    I ran FileMon and filtered on the aspnet_wp.exe process across both servers and ran the application up to the point of generating the issue.  The FileMon output from the test server showed no issues we as the output from FileMon off the live server showed an access denied message.
    I gave access right to the relevant accounts on the relevant folders on the live server and the report ran fine.

    You want me to paste this url in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    Is it sufficient if I do this on my machine or I have to copy this url in other users.

    in my machine, I need copy this url and send them to all users??
    I searched for this, I don't find this url in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.
    Is this url stored in a different format in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc?

  • Navigation bar not working cannot add a new one says there is a warning but does not indicate what kind of warning

    In the space where you would add a widgit there is a warning so a new navigation bar cannot be added.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that did not help.  When I pulishedd my website the navigation bar did not work.  It only linked to one page but I cannot fix the problem because of the warning.
