Airport 2nd Gen. Not Working; Worth Selling?

Hello,
Recently upgraded to a 5th Generation that seems to be working better with modem.  With 2nd Generation would have to unplug the router to connect to the internet several times daily.  The firmware on the 2nd was updated.  I was using 2.4ghz not 5 if it even would make a difference.  Is the older Airport even worth salvaging?  I thought about selling on eBay as is.  Would appreciate any feedback.  Thank you.

Check Ebay to see what other similar models are selling for to get an idea of what it might be worth.

  • Why is my wifi on my ipod touch 2nd gen not working?

Can someone help with the wifi on my ipod touch 2nd Gen? Yesterday it suddenly stopped connecting to anything wifi. No settings were changed. The only thing I did was go to itunes for the first time in well, forever. I always use it on my computer to go in itunes, not my ipod. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I could still get on Safari after that but I don't really remember. At some point in the evening it stopped connecting. I can't get on Safari, my mail won't refresh, it would connect to the app store, nothing. Sometimes a message does pop up saying there was a problem connecting to the server. I can't figure this out, internet on my computer is running perfectly fine. My ipod wifi is on, airplane mode off. When I go into my settings it shows my network and that it's connected. I haven't connected it or synced it to the new itunes. I actually haven't downloaded the update yet. Ipod is up to date though without the new sync. Can anyone help me out? I'm very confused.
    Thanks

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen. not working, music plays but doesn't sync\

    Hello,
I have an iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen since a long time and it always worked perfectly. But now it has stopped working well. It has music stored inside and it plays it, it evencharges from the pc, but doesn't sync in iTunes, nor it shows up on Desktop. On iTunes the message in Italian says idt couldn't be identified and to reconnect the iPod and retry. I tried the Reset Utility but it says my iPod isn' supported even if it is a 2nd Gen iPod. The only positive thing is it shows up on System Profiler.
I tried also turning off the iPod for 5 seconds and turning it again on, but the issue is still there.
    Have you got any suggestions?
    Thankyou

Actually it turns out I can't even add to it. It claims it's synced to another library (which apparently is true, being as it was last used with my Macbook Pro). Somewhat new question, How do I combine the two libraries, as it's all mine, just on two different computers, one of which doesn't work unless it's in Hard Disk Mode.

  • Ipod Shuffle (2nd gen) not working with iTunes 11.0.4

I have my shuffle set to Manually Manage songs, and can view and add to the Ipod through 'On this Ipod' but highlighting songs and hitting the delete key is not working to remove songs. The process works for my other Ipods including my Touch and Classic. I don't want to 'restore' my Ipod because some of the content is only stored on a computer that isn't working at the moment, I just want to get rid of some of it to make way for new stuff.

  • Apple TV 2nd generation not working on Ethernet

My 2nd gen TV working fine on wifi. It can find the iTunes library on my computer via home sharing and airplay works just fine. When I hook up Ethernet it starts to play up. I am able to airplay to the TV using my iPad, iPhone and Mac. However, it will not connect to the iTunes library while on Ethernet. It says that it can not find the library and to check home sharing. I have swaped it with my 3rd gen TV and it works fine on both Ethernet and wifi. Even swapped the switch for an AirPort Extreme and it made no difference. Fine on wifi, fine on Ethernet for airplay but won't connect to the iTunes library through "computers". Also restarted, reset and restored with no success either... Does anyone have an idea???

Sounds pretty similar to the issues I am experiencing:

I am really wondering whether it is not introduced by the last update.... Before that I didn't have a single issue.

My Mom has an ipod Touch 2nd gen. Working fine one night. Put on charger; next day dead. 'Ive researched and tried everything. Fully charged. Let sit for 5 months to run the charge out.  Tap it firmly against padded surface. Press and hold buttons for x amount of time. Itunes won't recognize.  Deader than a door nail. What can I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Please locate the model number of the AirPort Express and post back that information.
The model number is located on the side of the AirPort Express. It begins with an "A" followed by four numbers.
We are not sure what you mean by "does not work".  Does this mean that the AirPort Express worked at one time and has just recently stopped working?
Have you installed a newer operating system on your iOS device recently?
Or, is this a new AirPort Express that you are trying to configure for the first time?
If yes, what service will the AirPort Express perform on your network?
Please remember that we cannot see your network, so we only know as much about your problem as you can tell us.

  • Need Help...my wireless airport express will not work with my update of snow leopard

after installing snow leopard on my macbook pro my airport express will not work...or will connect only for a minute at a time.

If you mean by "airport express" the square airport router you plug in and has a usb port then run the Airport Utility located in your Utilities folder to set it up again. If AU doesn't see it you may need to do a re-set of the AE.

  • Updated airport utility will not work on older Airport Extreme

I have a mid-2011 Macbook Air with OS 10.9.4. So that's up-to-date. I recently updated my Airport Utility to version 6.2. I have an old Airport Extreme. The new Airport utility will not work with the old Airport Extreme. Apple will not let me download the older Airport Utility, because I have a newer one installed: classic Catch-22. Any ideas? I need to find out my SSID to connect with a new Denon AVR receiver. Is there any way to find out my SSID with Airport Utility?

You must first uninstall AU 6.2 before you can install an older version. This may be removed by the mods so get it while you can:

  • Please help, 3rd gen works fine, 2nd gen not recognized

My wife & daughter got a 3rd gen ipod for xmas, they are working fine, but my sons 2nd gen ipod is not recognized by the computer or itunes. Nor will it charge, & now to top it off the battery appears to be dead so i cannot reset, restore, or anything. Before xmas it worked fine. Any suggestions for getting it working again.

Have you tried plugging it into a wall charger? If the battery truly is toast, then you need to replace it.

  • Shuffle (2nd Gen) not been used for a few years - not working at all - any ideas?

My Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) has not been used for a long time and now will not give any reponse at all. It won't charge and it is not recognised by ITunes - is there anything I should do?

Sorry...  I did not notice your reply.
The initial blinking is good.  That means there is a connection between shuffle and computer.  But it should continue blinking or become a solid color (ON but not blinking).
It could be a problem with the battery.  If a lithium battery is left completely drained for an extended period, it can become unable to hold a charge.  However, it could also be a problem with the USB port (such as not enough available power or a USB device conflict).  As a test, you should try shutting down the computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on computer.

  • IPod shuffle 2nd gen not recognized in Mac either Finder or iTunes (but is detected and works perfectly fine on Windows)... i tried using iPod Reset Utility, but no luck...

i've been working on this for the past few days, and still no luck... iPod Shuffle 2nd generation (i know it's old).... not detected in my home MacBook... but works perfectly fine on Windows....
i tried using iPod Reset Utility, soooo many times... and i only had twice the luck of having it formatted... but even though it is formatted, it still isn't recognized in iTunes or even in Finder.... other than the 2 times of having it formatted using iPod Reset Utility, i had seen all the reuslts, like: Error ressetting the ipod blah blah: iPod has been reset, keep plugged in, until reset is completed blah blah: iPod has been reset, unplug and replug your iPod blah blah... etc, i have seen all the possible effects of iPod Reset Utility, but still no luck getting it recognized in iTunes or Finder....
and then , i tried connecting it to a windows computer (but i didn't restore it from there, and just ejected it from windows iTunes), after ejecting it from windows, and then connecting it to Mac, it worked miraculuosly.... perfectly synced and able to put music and listen to them... ejected iPod... after a few minutes, i wanted to add some other music, but when i connected it again, Bam!!!! not working again... even after connecting to windows, it didn't work anymore... guess the magic trick has been doomed...
i badly need help... puhlease...  (^_^)

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

  • Apple TV (2nd gen) not showing up as a device in iTunes

    Hi all,
I have this problem. The Apple TV (2nd gen) does not show up in iTunes under devices, and I really don't know why.
    Mac OSX 10.6.5
    iTunes 10.1
AppleTV 2nd gen with latest update installed
Network is a WiFi Airport Extreme (Mac and AppleTV are indeed on the same private network)
Airplay works, home sharing works fine. Remote App on iPad and iPhone works.
But the AppleTV is not showing up under devices.
I had a 1st gen AppleTV which I reverted to "factory settings" before unplugging. The 2nd gen ATV had the same name as the 1st gen at the beginning, but I changed it afterwards figuring it might be related.
Under iTunes > preferences I had the AppleTV tab. But I did read somewhere on Apple's site you have to "delete" the AppleTV from the list. So I did, and now the tab cannot be found anymore...
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance.

    iMat77 wrote:
I seem to recall though that I have seen a screenshot somewhere on the web where iTunes showed the ATV 2nd gen as a device.
Not seen that, but the old ones have a logo that look (to me) like the new one, or at least a small darker grey than they are - they show up nicely in the iPad/iPhone Remote app though
If you are right it would be huge disappointment!
I believe I am correct as I've got new/old AppleTVs connected to 3 Macs and a dual boot Mac Pro currently, and the new unit has never appearede under devices.
.... I really HATE the interface organization right now. Why on planet earth do I have to go under "devices" -> "computer" -> "music" just to play some music?
You, me and many other AppleTV 1 users. I think they'd finally got it right in 3.02 for AppleTV 1 which is a much nicer user interface. Basically now the majority of the top level columns are unused by many people who don't rent but want to playback theit iTunes media.
I firmly believe Apple see this new AppleTV as a relatively cheap accessory for iPads/iPhones/iPods to show video/photos via Airplay on your TV without using a computer.
Secondly it's a vehicle for pushing itunes Store rentals, but for the majority of worldwide users they can only get Movie rentals, and Netflix is of no use bar in a few countries (US/Canada).
I would have much more preferred that a "music" tab (it also applies to all other tabs, movies, tv series and so on) and then just a list of all "home sharing" connected computers from which I could pick the one where the music is stored. Or even, and being Apple it surprises me they didn't implement it, just the list of the available music on my network, with a little tab indicating in which computer it is located.
Yes that would make absolute sense - a dynamic list of available content based on connected libraries that changes as new libraries appeared on/left the local network.
The new menu organisation is quite shoddy to me, ut many users new to AppleTV like it and rave about the devices not knowing what the old one could do - it's a good device don't get me wrong, but I still prefer the older units except for their power consumption and the fact I feel they are more likely to fail due to their high temps and mechanical hard drives.
But here I'm venturing FAR off topic.
    Don't think so, it's a valid comment.
    Use this:

Thank you for your help anyway. I wait for confirmation of somebody else just to make sure...
    Fair enough.

  • Settings problem of range of 2nd gen. not as good as 1st gen.?

My original Aiport Express stopped working this week, just went dead, replaced it with a new 2nd gen. one ....
Wheras the original extended the signal through the house particularly to the living room, with this one, there is no signal at all.
It's joining the network created by an Original Airport Extreme, working off Snow Leopard and the latest Airport Utility ..
Set-up was a breeze, but when the Airport Express was then plugged in downstairs to where the original one always was, no signal at all .. never changed any settings, actually re-cycled the power on the modem and the Airport Extreme as advised when adding to a network
Even though on set-up and it asked me if I wanted to extend the network when I have looked 'inside' the settings with Airport Utility 'Manual Setup) under Summary / Base Station / Wireless, WIRELESS it says Wireless Mode:  join a Wireless Network even though there is an option to 'Extend the Wirelss  network ....
So, is the Airport Express merely joining the wireless network, or is it extending it, or has this option nothing to do with the original automatic set-up ....
Also, is there a reason the signal from the Airport Extreme won't be reaching as far as the original Airport Express if the previous settings are correct ..
Thanks for any help you can offer ..

Your older Express was configured to provide more wireless coverage using what is known as WDS settings, which the AirPort Extreme was also using.
You might be able to configure the new Express using WDS settings.
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to see if the WDS settings might appear.  This is not easy to set up, but it sounds like you may have done this before.
The downside to WDS is that it only operates in older "g" wireless modes, so you lose any advantage of having a much faster "n" AirPort Express.
If WDS will not work, a new AirPort Extreme would provide dual band operation and the Express would extend both bands....a very nice performance upgrade.
