Airport extreme doesn't work on windows

I have some problems with Airport extreme on windows. It can find wireless network, it looks like it can connect to it but when I start using internet it doesn't work. It looks like it PC is searching for wireless network again as if it hadn't been connected to any.

So what did you do to fix it? I have the same problem - My Windows machines can see teh Airport Exrtreme but they are not getting a DHCP address from it.

  • Airport extreme doesn't work anymore

My airport extreme router was working great, until coincidentally, when I purchased a new windows 8 laptop. Does this have something to do with windows 8?

I've been using my Airport Extreme since Dec 2012.  I bought a Windows 8 laptop and been using it with my airport extreme since early January with no issues.  My Extreme did stop working about a month ago after a firmware update was unsucessful.  I ended up resettting the Extreme and started from scratch again.  Everything seems to be working great once again.

  • I am unable to get Airport Extreme WiFi to work with Windows 8 Sony Laptop

My Airport Extreme WiFi works with my Mac Book Pro, iphones, ipad and DVR's, but will not work WiFi with my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 8.  Although it does work with the laptop using a ethernet cable.  Has anyone else had this issue and can you please tell me how to resolve the problem?

Windows can have issues with the wireless name.
Make sure the name conforms to windows standard.
    Short, 2-20 characters
    No spaces,
    Pure alphanumeric.
eg AEwifi is a good wireless name.
Fred Blog's Airport Extreme Wireless87AD34 is a really bad name.
Test also by removing the security and just see if you can connect if the short name doesn't help.
WPA2 Personal is really the only security worthy of the name and the password should be mix of upper and lower case plus numbers.. keep it pure alphanumeric also.
Set fixed wireless channels at least for 2.4ghz may help, depending on your location geo standards wise.
Test 11, 6, 1 in that order. With no security briefly. And a short name. (different name on the two bands is also a good idea).
Then wireless is not compatible.. you should download another driver for whatever wireless card the Sony uses.. intel most likely and they have a reputation as lousy. So download latest and a few prior to that as well.

  • Airport Extreme won't work with windows computer?

I can't get airport extreme to work with my other computer which is a windows machine. The windows machine can't find the network address. Sometime it does find an address and appears to be connected, however I cannot connect to the internet with that machine. My Mac does work and connect to the internet. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a toshiba laptop and it works prefectly with a conceptronic usb card. But you must set up the Base Station only with the default options. I mean that you can not hide the SSID, or make an access control with Airport Extreme. You only set up the default options and it works perfectly. When I try to place an access control or hide the network then it doesn´t work and wait an ip as you say in your post.
If you want to connect from Windows to the Base Station you need to close your firewall and no other cable into the Airport Extreme, only the cable that you are connecting to access the Base Station. And it will work.

  • Airport Extreme Don't work with windows

I have an airport extreme, it connects and give internet to my 2 macbooks fine. But when i get onto a windows computer (laptop) it connects to the extreme but don't have internet. As i have changed my o.s. to Ubuntu 10.10 it still connects to the extreme but still yet has no internet. It is that way with every windows computer i have. But it does work fine with my 2 macbooks any help?

    How is your network setup? i.e. dsl/cable > APE > Mac/PC/Linux ?
Is the APE setup as a DHCP server? Are the non-Mac's setup as DHCP clients with both IP and DNS to obtain automatically?

  • Airport Extreme ethernet not working with Windows XP

Windows XP no longer connects to the Internet via the Airport Extreme ethernet port. XP says the cable isn't plugged in but when I connect XP directly to the DSL modem it works fine. When I connect my MacBook Pro to the Internet through the Airport Extreme ethernet port it works fine. (I'm sure it's connected by ethernet because I do +sudo ifconfig en1 down+.) I can't figure it out. I'm relatively certain Airport Extreme is blocking XP from connecting via ethernet but I'm not certain. It worked without a glitch for about two years. Lightning fried my old DSL modem and ever since I got the new one, XP "can't see" Airport Extreme, but will connect directly to the DSL modem and the net without a hitch. Any insight will be much appreciated.

I'm not sure why your PC is not able to connect to the AirPort Extreme Base Station's (AEBS) Ethernet port, but it is likely the lightning strike may have something to do with it. I'm also a bit surprised you're were able to run the "sudo ifconfig" command under Windows.
To rule out general communications issues between the modem and the AEBS, I suggest that you try a complete power recycle of all your network components as follows ...
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Want to extend my WLAN (ZyXEL) using 2013 airport extreme; doesn't work... Any ideas?

    Hi
I want to extend my WLAN (using a ZyXEL VDSL-modem) with 2013 airport extreme. Doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Does APE only work with Twisted Pair cable? That's the only way so far I can access the Internet using APE. But that was not my plan when I ordered it. So - am I wrong or is there a solution (without buying airport express on top of it …)?
    I am using AP utility v 6.3.1., OS X 10.8.4.
    Thanks
    swissgerman

In your case, you will need to connect the AirPort to the ZyXEL product with an Ethernet cable.
As far as your question of Does APE only work with Twisted pair cable?
I cannot answer for all products. I said "probably" because as far as I know and have tested....the Apple products will not "extend" a signal from another manufacturer wirelessly.
There might be a product that works with Apple. But, someone else will have to tell you what that product might be.
If you want to extend using wireless with Apple.....as far as I know.....it takes two Apple products to do this.

  • A simple 8-port switch to my airport extreme doesn't work!

This has been driving me insane
I have an 802.11n airport extreme base station. I set it up to work with my DSL modem to use PPPoE, configure the wireless, and plug in a machine into one of the lan ports. Everything works great.
When I connect an 8-port linksys or dlink switch to one of the lan ports to daisychain into another room...anything I connect to the switch has dead slow or sporadic slow net access. (Yes, the cable checks out OK.) Althought, It seems that I can ping all devices without issue when I use their ip address.
I set all the devices that connect to the switch to have the same ip domain as the main network the airport extreme has, i.e., 192.168.1.x and set them all to DHCP.
I've reinstalled and reconfigured the base station many many times to no avail!
This ain't supposed to be this hard...I've done it many times on other routers and it's never been such a problem...usually just works! These switches are auto-negotiation etc, etc...for the record one is a linksys sd2008....simple, no fuss switch.
Anyone have any idea or can point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,
    dimitri

    Hi andruzzo-
Are these gigabit switches? At what speed are the Macs connecting to it?
And this is a switch and not a router, correct?
    Luck-

  • Airport Extreme doesn't work with VriginMedia's(NTL) DNS

My ISP is Virgin Media (NTL).
When I set up my AEBS, using DHCP & VMs DNS servers (62.253.162.237 & 194.688.4.237), I can see their web site, but I can't access other websites.
Network diagnostics shows: Ethernet, Network Settings, ISP & Server as Green with the Internet as Red.
A couple of calls verified that the Virgin Media support line just weren't interested, saying it was a router problem.
After several frustrating hours trawling through discussion threads & trying the various combinations of powering off/on & changing various settings, I discovered that If I use OpenDNS( 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220), everything works just fine.
But I still am left with the question: why doesn't it work with Virgin Media's DNS?

As for why it doesn't work using the DNS servers that VM provide - it's probably because you are supposed to use the modem to provide the dns servers (this is done automatically when you use dhcp via VM's cable platform). Try removing all dns servers from the AEBS and it should work fine as it will get the correct, read Virgin Media, DNS settings.

  • Airport Extreme doesn t work !!!

can you help me with my airport extreme whic stopped suddenly no lights and no connection just a continuous sharp sound zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz like that when tried to take the cable off to reset every thing gone but when i put it on back the same situation no lights no connection just the same sound !!!!! is it burned out or what ?

Unfortunately, the symptoms that you are decribing indicate that there has likely been a component failure inside the AirPort Express. Suggest that you take the device (and the power supply brick) to an Apple store....if there is one in your area....so that they can take a closer look.
Otherwise, contact Apple Customer Service to discuss your options.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't work, we need a solution!!

I own one of these POS routers and it is constantly dropping the connection, every day or two. Originally when I had this problem, a couple months ago, I decided there was no way I could fix it on my own so I took it back to the Apple store and got a replacement. Though they didn't offer me a replacement from their current "new" stock, I was called back a couple days later and offered a "refurbished" model.
    Yay.
For the first couple weeks, no problems. All the sudden, and without changing anything either on Airport or the client end, the connection begins dropping again and continues to do so every day. When it drops, it is impossible to reconnect any of the clients in my house back to the router for 20-30 minutes. The symptoms are identical as the original router and despite power-cycling the router and the modem, it continues to happen and never actually solves the problem. Also, when I try to connect via the Airport Utility, the router has magically vanished and I'm left with nothing but a useless "rescan" button that shows nothing, even though both the Airport Scanning lists the router and so does iStumbler.
The router sits about 6 feet from my laptop and iStumbler reports really no interference. The wireless channel is set to the automatic default setting and despite repeated attempts to reconnect, reset and return the product, it has proven to be entirely useless to me. I've read through these forums and have found many customers are having the same problem. Often times there are pages and pages in the same thread of numerous reports and complaints about the Airport Extreme router and no one from Apple is doing anything to fix it.
Is there currently a solution to fix this problem, once and for all or do I need to try and figure out a way to get a refund for this and switch back to Linksys? I like Apple products, but if they performed as well as this device, I wouldn't own one.

If I received two bad routers in a row, then this product line really is junk and a LOT of people out there are getting bad product, too. The symptoms I've experienced are identical to hundreds of others. The question here isn't whether I have a bad product or not (I KNOW I have a bad product), the question is what is Apple going to do to fix this once and for all or is there already a known workaround? I'm not going to keep beta testing different routers from the Apple store.

  • I just installed Airport Extreme. It works as a wireless network on my Macbook. It won't connect with my Windows Visa PC. Message reads: "settings saved on this computer for the network don't match requirements of the network.

I just installed Airport Extreme. It works as a wireless network on my Macbook. It won't connect with my Windows Visa PC. Message reads: "settings saved on this computer for the network don't match requirements of the network." I seem to need to enter a security key/passphrase to connect to the PC. Where do I find them?
    Thanks for your help.

I assume that you have Wireless Security enabled on your AirPort's wireless network. The issue maybe that the PC is unable to use the WPA password itself and will require using the Equivalent Network Password instead.
To get this password, you will use the AirPort Utility from the MacBook:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort base station > Manual Setup
Now, before doing anything else, go up to the utility's menu bar at the top of the screen, and then, choose "Base Station," and then, Equivalent Network Password from the drop-down menu. You will see two items: 1) WPA Password, which should look familiar to you, and 2) WPA Pre-Shared Key. It should be a long hexidecimal set of numbers and letters. Jot down this second item.
You will want to use the value you just jotted down when entering the password from the Windows Visa PC.

  • Airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

A few things to check are:
Make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32. The normal Windows format of NTFS will not work.
The USB port at the AirPort Exteme is under powered. You almost always need to use a powered USB hub with a drive at this port, even if the drive has its own power supply.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't recognize USB Drive

I have a USB external drive that is working fine when attached to my iMac but my airport extreme doesn't see it at all. I have tried resetting the power to both devices.
    AEBS version 7.2.1
Does the drive have to be formated a certain way for it to work? Right now it is "Mac OS Extended" I have also had it formatted as OS Extended (Journaled). Neither are working.

Oh well... No dice huh? I just noticed that the Airport Extreme locks up every time I use my sonicwall global VPN client as well per this thread.
