Airport MAC address not set at factory?

I just received my new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to set my router so that DHCP requests from the new Macbook Pro would receive the same IP address on my home LAN.
The IP address for the Airport in my new machine is: 00:11:22:33:44:55 as determined by the following terminal command.
macbookpro:~ pderby$ ifconfig en1 | grep ether
ether 00:11:22:33:44:55
I tried to "spoof" the address with this command:
sudo ifconfig en1 lladdr 00:19:e3:d8:f5:07
which does not throw an error, but does not work.
Anyone else get a MacBook Pro where the MAC address for the airport was not set?
Any ideas on what to do?
I suppose I can just tell my router the MAC address is 00:11:22:33:44:55

Of course the MAC address and the IP address are two different things. I'm not sure why, Kappy, you thought I had this confusion. And I beg to differ, but MAC addresses are by interface, not by machine. So the ethernet port has a different MAC address than the Airport. They HAVE to have different MAC addresses or using two IP connections at the same time will not work when both ports are active at the same time and have the same MAC address. Using both ports at the same time with two independent IP addresses is completely supported by BSD Unix as well as OS X.
On my new machine the Ethernet Port EN0, has the MAC address 00:23:32:c8:27:4a
On my new machine the Airport Port, EN1, has the MAC address 00:11:22:33:44:55
I've had a lot of Macs, and this is the first time I've had an airport with this "default" MAC address.
My question is 1) does anyone else have a MAC address of 00:11:22:33:44:55 on their new MacBook Pro for the Airport hardware? If so, is this correct? Usually the MAC address has a manufacturer's Id embedded followed by a unique ID. 2) If someone is in the same situation have you talked to Apple about this? What did they have to say?
I can spoof the MAC address temporarily via the terminal, but it will reset to the hardware address on reboot.

  • Viewing airport mac address

I am setting up a school district for mac address authentication and would like to view and export the airport mac addresses with Apple Remote Desktop. The application already has a view option for the ethernet mac address so getting the airport mac address shouldn't be too difficult? Who knows a unix command I cann send to get the results I need? I have about 2K wireless devices in our district. Thanks...

    Hi
    Take your pick:
    networksetup -getmacaddress Ethernet
    networksetup -getmacaddress Wi-Fi
    networksetup -getmacaddress Firewire

  • Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default. Refurbished Acer Iconia W3-810

This tablet was purchased refurbished.  As soon as I got it, I went to create my backup and message is "Hard drive configuration is not set to the factory default.  Backup aborted.  I had already sent it in once to the seller for repair services and it was sent back not repaired.  They now say I can send it in again but seems a waste of time.  I called Acer and they said I would need to purchase the recovery disk which should have already been provided to me.  It does have a valid SNID number.  I checked.   If there is anyone else who came up against this problem, I would love to know what you did to resolve it.  Second problem.  Large font had been created where is overscans the entire page so reading the Control Panel is impossible.  The warranty dept created a new user account with new settings as they were unable to fix the font problem so they ignored it.  This is another reason I wanted to do a factory reset.  Hoping Acer will be kind enough to just send me the disk.   I've learned alot about refurbished products.  Never again.

Hard drive configuration is not set to factory default (I had this problem but mine was caused  by some third party partitioning software easeus. I am not pretty entirely sure what was your cause for the error, but I believe this workaround can be useful, even to some of the users)  I learnt a tough lesson and I am now careful on what third party soft wares one must use especially for partitioning related events using windows 8 GPT structure. This article specifically relates to windows 8 (which I was using) although similar steps may work as well in windows 7 Points note:Most newer windows devices now use the GPT partitioning system compared to the traditional MBR system. It can be very difficult to reinstall windows on a partition with GPT format. One must be careful on what 3rd party portioning tools they use. It is not recommend to use some 3rd party tools to resize partitions as these may mess the hard drive configuration in such a way that it will be very difficult to restore to factory settings (especially for devices pre-loaded with OEM-Windows 8)It is recommended to use the in-built Disk management utility to shrink/resize partitions.First and foremost, it is recommended to use system file scanner to check any files that may be corrupted (and most of these are normally fixed by sfc)Press Windows key + X, select ‘Command prompt (Admin)’. Enter the following command “sfc /scannow” (without quotes) and the system will start scanning the system. Wait until it finishes. Now we will proceed to the main fix; here are the set of steps I performed,Run CMD (Admin)Type diskpartType list diskDisk 0 Online 465 GB 19 GB * (an example of how the disk will present)

Now you can try system refresh/reinstall to factory settings (or create a recovery media)*In my case and others I researched on internet, it turns EASEUS partition master was the culprit, please don’t use that software if you don’t know what you are doing. (With all respect to EASEUS) I think this tool is still not configured well to work with the GPT partition format.

  • ICloud registered to mac address, not me address

I originally got dot mac al those years ago and set up [email protected] (a)
then mobileme came along and I also got [email protected] (b)
I also set up two aliases with mobile me [email protected] (c) and [email protected] (d)
"a, c &d"  all work fine on my iphone. but b doesn't appear in the from field wen sending mail.
Obiously as its linked to "a" by way of the same account I still get mail from "b", but I can't send from it, even when replying to messages addressed to "b"
Now my mac address "a" ended up getting signed up for a load of spam through a site that betrayed me so I don't use it anymore and all mails that come to it get atomatically deleted.
This poses a small problem when the iPhone wants to send all mail from this address.
I can choose "c" and "d" but neither of these are my primary email address. "b" is my primary address, the only one I can't send from on my iphone.
If I go into iCloud settings, the account is the Mac address and if I go into it I can't the apple ID from the Mac address, and down the bottom the Mail is the Mac address and if I go into that the address is the mac address and can't be cganged.
I set up iCloud with address "b" and it went back to the mac address.
If I go to manage my ID it has my primary email address as "b" but my ID is the Mac address.
I'd love to be able to delete the Mac address
To make things even more complicated, I can't send email from my Mac address from my Mac Pro, not that it matters, just shows its not all in sync properly, or so it seems.
So can anyone offer any help or tips or insight as to what I can do to fix this. I'v wanted for years to delete the mac address but I can't.
    Thanks in advance

    You can use either one.

  • Network mac address not present in OS  yosemite

    HI, I have a 2012 retina MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5.
I recently upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer see the mac address of my Apple usb ethernet adapter on the network setting on the system preferences application. Also, I can no longer see 'USB ethernet' in the network options. I only see thunderbolt bridge and thunderbolt bridge 2. Under thunderbolt bridge, i can see 'USB ethernet' as active but I can't see the mac address in the hardware tab. Anyone else have this problem?

Well, the explanation makes sense but I don't think it is true.  I got to this thread because I have the same issue. I have hard wired my TC to my home network and set the Router mode in TC as Bridge Mode.  Some days when I use the Airport Utility to view the clients it will show clients' names and the next day it will show the Mac Address. So, I believe it is a software / firmware issue.
I have turned off the wifi on my main router and all the devices are being connected wirelessly through my Time Capsules.

  • Airport Mac Addresses?

Where can I find the Mac Addresses of connected airport xpress's that are extending my network in airport utility 6.x?
I'd like to be able to copy and paste Mac Addresses for DHCP reservations.
Has this been removed from Airport Utility as well?
    Thanks

Open AirPort Utility and click directly on the icon of an AirPort router.
Then click on the product heading in the next small window that appears.
A third window will open to display the MAC addresses for Ethernet, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
If there is a way to copy/paste this info, I have not found it.

  • Mail to my .mac address not being received.  Mail to .me is.

Very Strange.  Mail sent to my .me address is recived.  Mail sent to my .mac address is not.  Yet in iCloud I am identifed by my .mac address.

No, can't be done. Backups will occur when you are home if you are using Time Capsule, or when you connect your Time Machine backup drive.
Portable Macs back up locally, while awaiting a connection to your backup device. Try it yourself - you can "Enter Time Machine" and browse recent backups even when you are away from your Time Capsule.
Read about that here: http://pondini.org/TM/30.html. It has limitations - a consequence of sharing your local volume with TM's "local snapshots".
This feature can be disabled in Time Machine Preferences.

  • VNic Mac addresses not associated correctly when installing OVM Server

We are trying to get our first Oracle VM environment running and noticed that on the UCS the mac assocated with eth0 ended with 0B but on the  Oracle install the eth0 interface mac address ends with 08.  The mac for eth3 on the Oracle install lines up with what the UCS sees as eth0.  How do we correct this and ensure the interfaces line up so that eth0 on the UCS is eth0 on the Oracle service profile ?

This is going to depend on how Oralce numerates the PCI BUS.  That will dictate which PCI device the OS sees in which order.
You can try manipulating the order using a vNIC placement policy.  This will allow you to ensure certain vNIC/vHBAs appear first on the PCI BUS for the host.

  • Device in Linksys Smart Wi-Fi is listed with two MAC address - not correct.

I am using a EA4500 and use Linksys Smart Wi-Fi to manage the device. In the household we have multiple Apple i devices. Somehow the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi combined two separte i devices (iPhone 5 and a 4th generation iTouch) to one user.
The devices actually have different names, but the Smart Wi-Fi is combining them into one device. So I can't use Parental Controls on one of the devices.
I hope you can help me on this. We have made sure both devices have different names.
    192.168.1.106

    192.168.1.122

Before you decide to used the classic firmware, I would suggest that to try to manually add your TV under the DHCP reservation of the router's UI.

  • I need to change the MAC Address for Airport on MacBook

I have a specific need to change my son's Airport MAC address as his school requires the use of USB network cards that aren't compatible with MACs. These cards are needed because the school's router uses MAC address filtering.
Before we upgraded his Mac to Snow Leopard, we were able to change the MAC address to the MAC address of the useless dongal the school supplied. We basically created an AppleScript program that ran the "sudo ifconfig en1 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" and all was good.
This command no longer works for changing the MAC address. We tried it as root user as well and by typing it into the terminal window as root. After running the command, we can run "ifconfig en1" and it does display the new mac address but when we turn the airport on and try to connect, it just hangs and won't connect.
Our other non-Snow Leopard still works fine after running the commands so I'm guessing Apple disabled this functionality. It's hardly a security issue by being able to change your mac addres.
Is there a new way to accomplish this? I've searched everywhere.
    Thanks!

Would an easier solution be to provide the school's IT admin with your mac address and have it added? If they can add a block of mac addresses for the usb dongles, they can add more for machines that cannot use the dongle.
Also: "It's hardly a security issue by being able to change your mac address."
While it may not be a security issue for your machine, it is a security for the school network who is using mac address filtering as hopefully only one part of their wireless security.
That being said, have you read this?

  • Apple TV2, Linksys Router, Preferred IP Addresses not being taken

I'm setting up every internet enabled device in my household on a preferred IP address inside my linksys router. This is in case of any future use where I may need to port forward to a specific device. I am setting up the preferred IP addresses in the Linksys instead of adding Manual addresses to each individual item as not only does that add to the process, it's not very friendly when trying to change the order of IP addresses I have done, or if a new item is added to the household. Plus Manual addresses can be deceiving if there are network errors.
The devices we have: iPhone4, iPhone4S, iPad 3rd Gen, Airport Express, Apple TV2, Mac Mini and a PS3.
    The Router: Linksys WRT120N fw1.0.07
The Linksys requires the MAC addresses of each device to assign the preferred IP Address to each individual device. I have even gathered up the Wifi and Ethernet adaptors MAC addresses for the items applicable. All devices are properly eing assigned the right IP address... but no matter what I try, the Apple TV2 always pulls a basic 192.168.1.100 IP even though its airport MAC address is assigned to grab 192.168.1.143 and ethernet is 192.168.1.142. Neither the ethernet nor the wireles settings of the ATV2 grab the right ones.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, how did you finally push the right preferred IP address to the device. (Keep in mind that I want to grab the items automatically, I want to have the linksys supply the preferred IP and not have the ATV2 grab a manual address)

Hi… Make sure that you have entered the MAC address of your Range Expander under MAC filter. You don’t need the filtering to be done on Range Expander. Try changing other wireless settings such as Channel to 11 etc… Also make sure that you are assigning an IP address that is in the range of the router. Go to wireless network connection properties, under wireless network, click advance button and select ‘access point, infrastructure networks only’. I think this should solve the issue. Upgrade the firmware on the router and range expander if needed.

  • [Windows] list MAC addresses of ethernet-connected devices to AEBS?

I have an ethernet connected device (among others) that is running headless, so I need to create a static IP ("DHCP Reservation") based on the MAC address to SSH into the device.
This device is connected to my AEBS with an ethernet cable, and I cannot figure out where in the Airport Utility app lists MAC addresses connected by ethernet. This is very easy if it were a wirelessly connected device but it appears the Airport Utility -> Advanced -> Logging and Statistics tab -> "Logs and Statistics" only holds information of wirelessly connected devices.
I am connecting to my AEBS with the most updated Airport Utility for Windows v5.6.1
So, where do you find the MAC addresses listed of ethernet-connected devices using Windows Airport Utility?

but it appears the Airport Utility -> Advanced -> Logging and Statistics tab -> "Logs and Statistics" only holds information of wirelessly connected devices.
That would be true if the AEBS is configured in Bridge Mode.  In this case, another device....you likely call this your modem....is providing DHCP information to all connected devices. That is the device where you need to locate MAC Addresses and set up Static IP addresses.....not the AEBS.
If your AirPort Extreme is in charge of providing DHCP services, then the window in Airport Utility will have a DHCP tab, which will display all of this information for both wired and wireless devices.  If you don't see a DHCP tab....this is yet another confirmation that the AEBS is in Bridge Mode.

  • Ethernet MAC address on ipod touch?

    Hi,
I'm using a iPod Touch 2G (16GB, ordered this summer with a new MacBook Pro), and I'm trying to register the device with my school wireless.
The form that I have to fill out in order to request wireless access for new devices asks for system type (APPLE-IPOD), OS (IPHONE-OS), and the ethernet and wireless MAC addresses (or "ethernet hardware address"/"wireless hardware address"). These two entries can be found on computers in System Profile/Network, where you can find the MAC addresses for Airport and Ethernet.
However, I'm not sure what to do in the case of the iPod. I understand that you can find a MAC address in Settings/Network, but this only shows the Airport MAC address, correct? I can't submit the form without including the Ethernet address, and I can't submit using the same MAC address for both Ethernet/wireless. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for this information, or is this an issue that I have to bring up with the IT office directly?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!

whoops, my mistake--I meant that I'd already found General/About/Settings, but the Wi-Fi address there only indicates the equivalent of the Airport MAC address, correct? Where would I find the equivalent of the Ethernet MAC address? (or if the "Wi-Fi address" on the iPod touch is equivalent to the Ethernet MAC address, what is the wireless MAC address?
