Ajax with jsf problem

Hi
I have small problem here. I worked struts with ajax before. currently. I m trying to work on ajax with jsf, here i m getting the problem. i created one ajaxaction class its extends httpservlets. then i created one manage bean, then i want to call the class using javascript, i dont know how to do. can any one help for me.
Thanks

I have never worked with the AJAX + JSF combo before, but I know that you can invoke a managed bean action using javascript and the h:commandLink and h:commandButton elements.
<h:form id="form1">
    <h:commandLink id="link1" action="#{MyBean.action1}"><h:outputText value="link" /></h:commandLink>
    <h:commandButton id="button1" action="#{MyBean.action2}" value="button" />
</h:form>
<f:verbatim><script>
    function myFunction() {
        document.getElementById('form1:link1').onclick(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action1}
        document.getElementById('form1:button1').click(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action2}
</script></f:verbatim>I haven't tried other ways yet. But this might give you an idea.

  • Ajax with JSF Component

    How is it possible to embed Ajax with JSF Components. Every JSF request by default hits the Faces Servlet. Is it possible to by pass this flow for certain events?

    Wouldn't use it, that project is practically dead. It's has never been further developed/documented/supported since version 0.1 alpha in 2005.
    Ajax4jsf is still active and has excellent documentation/support.
    It might be good to know that the upcoming JSF 2.0 provides ajaxical capabilities.

  • Best Practices of using AJAX with JSF : BluePrints or  Ajax4Jsf ?

    am a newbie to AJAX4JSF . I think it provides Rapid Application Development (RAD) just by using tags like a4j: without the need to develop complex JSF Custom Components as shown in BluePrints Catalog
    https://bpcatalog.dev.java.net/ajax/jsf-ajax/
    I understand the purpose of developing JSF Custom components as Reusable for using with AJAX. But its complex and requires lot of coding i.e. PhaseListeners and Managed Beans. There should be easy way to do this especially our project needs RAD tool like AJAX4JSF.
    Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
    Regards
    Bansi

    Bansi, you are trying to compare orange-to-apple. Blue print catalog is a historical retrospection about what people thought about AJAXifying JSF in the past. Currently, the playground has been moved to the jsf-extension project. Look for DynaFaces there.

  • Can I use Ajax with jsf

    Hi All,
    Is JSF 1.1 supports AJAX or not???
    Please tell me..

    JSF RI 1.1 = Java Server Faces Reference Implementation 1.1.
    It is the Sun reference implementation of JSF. There are also 3rd party implementations of JSF available, like MyFaces, Tomahawk, IceFaces, ADF, etcetera.
    If you aren't limited to JSF RI version 1.1, I recommend you to use version 1.2. It provides more features and benefits.

  • Problem with JSF AJAX portlets

    I am seeing the following issues with JSF portlets
    1) When you AJAX enable the portlet, they will not work. There are some javascript errors on the component we are using. They work fine if we don't AJAX enable them
    2) I had 2 portlets. 1 JSF and 1 pageflow portlet. If I click on a link in pageflow portlet and after the page gets refreshed, nothing will work in JSF potlet. Again javacript errors
    If we had only 1 portlet on the page, JSF portlet works fine
    Do you think the prototype javacript library used in the portal causing any issues?

    I tried with <naming:namingContainer> immediatly after the f:view tag , but still getting same errors
    I am psoting the generated html and javascript error

  • Very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and

    I have discovered a very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and java instruction "request.getParameterNames()".
    Suppose you have something like this, to render some datas form a Java Beans :
    <h:dataTable value="#{TablesDb2Bean.myDataDb2ListSelection}" var="current" border="2" width="50%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" style="text-align: center">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText id="nameTableDb2" value="#{current.db2_name_table}"/>
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    Everything works fine...
    Suppose you want to get the name/value pairs for id="nameTableDb2" and #{current.db2_name_table} to process them in a servlet. Here is the HTML generated :
    <td><span <span class="attribute-name">id=<span class="attribute-value">"j_id_jsp_1715189495_22:0:nameTableDb2">my-table-db2-xxxxx</span></td>
    You think you can use the java instructions :
    Enumeration NamesParam = request.getParameterNames();
    while (NomsParam.hasMoreElements()) {
    String NameParam = (String) NamesParam.nextElement();
    out.println("<h4>"++NameParam+ "+</h4>);
    YOU ARE WRONG : request.getParameterNames() wants the syntax *name="nameTableDb2" but JSF must use id="nameTableDb2" for "<h:outputText"... So, you can't process datas in a FORM generated with JSF in a Servlet ! Perhaps I have made an error, but really, I wonder which ?

    While I certainly appreciate ejb's helpful responses, this thread shows up a difference in perspective between how I read the forum and how others do. Author ejb is correct in advising you to stay inside JSF for form processing if form processing is what you want to do.
    However, I detect another aspect to this post which reminds me of something Marc Andreesen once said when he was trying to get Netscape off the ground: "there's no such thing as bad HTML."
    In this case, I interpret ungar's request as a new feature request. Can I phrase it like this?
    "Wouldn't it be nice if I could render my nice form with JSF but, in certain cases, when I REALLY know what I'm doing" just post out to a separate servlet? I know that in this case I'll be missing out on all the nice validation, conversion, l10n, i18n, ajax, portlet and other features provided by JSF".
    If this is the case, because it really misses the point of JSF, we don't allow it, but we do have an issue filed for it
    https://javaserverfaces-spec-public.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=127
    If you can't wait for it to be fixed, you could decorate the FormRenderer to fix what you want.
    I have an example in my JSF book that shows how to do this decoration. http://bit.ly/edburnsjsf2

  • Navigation problem when using tiles with JSF

    Hi all,
    I m using tiles with JSF. i have included all the libraries and jsp page is rendered properly. but when i use <h:commandLink> in the body part of the JSP , i cannot go to the specified link. when we use tiles, what changes need to be done in faces-config file?? i mean what navigation rule we need to specify ??

    Hello, I have the same problem; JSF+Tiles = No navigation.
    One basic question is should I reference the parent jsp or the included body jsp in the faces-config.xml file.
    For example: The login.jsp is a main tiles page that includes a menu.jsp, header.jsp & a loginBody.jsp.
    Hence the faces-config could have this rule;
    <navigation-rule>
    <from-view-id>/login.jsp</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <to-view-id>/catalog.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    (I've left the outcome tag out to simplify this post)
    Or, I could refer loginBody.jsp in the navigation rule;
    <navigation-rule>
    <from-view-id>/loginBody.jsp</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <to-view-id>/catalog.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    The loginBody.jsp has a commandbutton which a user clicks which starts the navigation.
    Neither seems to work unfortunately & I'm a stuck.
    Thanks

  • Problems with JSF and included subviews

    Hi everybody,
    I' ve got a problem with JSF and included subviews which makes me going
    crazy. I've got no clue why my web-pages are represent wrongly. The only
    tip I've got is that it must be connected with the kind I do include my JSF-pages.
    When I use <%@file="sub.jsp"%> my pages are are represent right. When I use <jsp:include page="Sub.jsp" /> or <c:import url="Sub.jsp" /> ( mark: the usage of flush="true" or flush="false" doesn't matter )
    my pages are represent wrongly.
    The usage of tags like f:facet or f:verbatim were also included but didn't point to an solution.
    I searched the whole Sun Developer Forum and some other web-sites for any solution for my problem but the given hints and clues didn't help. Now I'm trying to post my problem directly in Sun's Forum in hope to get help.

    Hello Zhong Li,
    many thanks for your post, but it didn't work.
    My problem is that the JSF-Components im my included or imported
    JSP-Pages does not accept any kind of style or styleClass for
    designing. The components take over the informations for colors
    but not for alignment.
    When I take a look at the generated JAVA-Source in $TOMCAT/WORK/WEBAPP for my sub.jsp ( sub.java )
    it seems that the resulting HTML-page would be presented correctly.
    But later when I start the application via Firefox or Mozilla the html-sourcecode is totally wrong.
    In my example I create a simple grid with 2 rows and 2 columns.
    Both columns contains JSF-Outtext-Components and are included with div-tags.
    The generated Sub.java shows that the text would be setted in the div-tags. Unfortunately the html-sourcecode represented by my browser shows that jsf-text is not setted in the tags but in the <h:form> tags. The div-tags are neither rounded by <h:form> nor containing the JSF-OutText-Components.
    Any clue?
    Many thanks Benjamin

    Hello Vijay
    Displaying group of Checkboxes
    Use Value Change Listener and Create and panel Grid and render it to false
    in SelectOneMenu when the value is change it calls valueChangeListener
    there u check the event value if it is ur choice render panel grid to true simple.
    <h:selectOneMenu value="#{Bean.selectedCategories}"
              valueChangeListener="#{Bean.processValueChange}" onchange="this.form.submit();">
                   <f:attribute name="optionClasses" value="option1, option2" />
                   <f:selectItem itemLabel="Please select Industry" />
                   <f:selectItems value="#{Bean.selectCategories}" />
              </h:selectOneMenu>
    <h:panelGrid id="chkBox" binding="#{Bean.panel}" rendered="false">
    private HtmlPanelGrid panel = new HtmlPanelGrid();
    ///generate setter and getter
    public void processValueChange(ValueChangeEvent ae) throws Exception
              if(ae.getNewValue().equals("URChoice")){
    getPanel().setRendered(true);
    This will solve the problem

  • How to render a JSP page dynamically with JSF controls ??

    Hi All,
    I am new to JAVA and JSF. I am recently started doing a web project. First we started using plain JSP and servlets and now we are going to use JSF.
    Now I am facing one problem with JSF. In a JSP page, I am having a combobox and a div and when i am selecting a value from the combo box, the div should be filled with some controls(like text boxes and comboboxes, buttons, etc) according to the selection.
    I have done this in plain JSP with the help of XML/XSLT, AJAX and JavaScript. i.e. XML contains the details of the controls and XSLT transformer will give me controls in a string format in the server, AJAX helps to retrieve it and I have to simply set the div.innerHTML property to that string. It is working fine.
    Now with JSF, I need to add JSF controls into my XML file, and it inturn returns the corresponding string having JSF controls easily, but i could not set it directly to div's innerHTML as the String contains JSF controls (Moreover, these JSF controls are linked with JAVA beans).
    Is there any provision to add JSF controls to a running page dynamically or is there any provision to convert the above mentioned string of JSF controls to normal HTML controls like the JSF taglibraries doing.??
    thanks in advance

    That's simply asking for trouble. Do not suggest to use JSTL in combination with JSF.
    JSF already provides almost everything which the JSTL flow control tags provides in flavour of the 'rendered' attribute.
