Ajax with JSF Component

How is it possible to embed Ajax with JSF Components. Every JSF request by default hits the Faces Servlet. Is it possible to by pass this flow for certain events?

Wouldn't use it, that project is practically dead. It's has never been further developed/documented/supported since version 0.1 alpha in 2005.
Ajax4jsf is still active and has excellent documentation/support.
It might be good to know that the upcoming JSF 2.0 provides ajaxical capabilities.

    Is there a tutorial on how to create (not use/import existing) an Ajax-enabled JSF component using Creator 2? I read somewhere that it was done during a presentation in 3 minutes! Now that I really want to see ;-

    As far as I remeber, Edwin Goei's examples are the
    closest thing to the info you are looking. He has an
    example component, but don't remember if they're
    AJAX enabled. Check it on
    http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Javatools/CustomCompone
    tLibraries.
    Best regards
    Antonio.Thanks for the plug. I've been meaning to update that article. Writing an AJAX component is similar to writing other kinds of components but the developer uses AJAX techniques. The latest version of the popup calendar which is checked into the bpcatalog project of java.net uses Dojo which also has some support for AJAX. I haven't yet had time to update the article yet, unfortunately.

  • Ajax with jsf problem

    Hi
    I have small problem here. I worked struts with ajax before. currently. I m trying to work on ajax with jsf, here i m getting the problem. i created one ajaxaction class its extends httpservlets. then i created one manage bean, then i want to call the class using javascript, i dont know how to do. can any one help for me.
    Thanks

    I have never worked with the AJAX + JSF combo before, but I know that you can invoke a managed bean action using javascript and the h:commandLink and h:commandButton elements.
    <h:form id="form1">
        <h:commandLink id="link1" action="#{MyBean.action1}"><h:outputText value="link" /></h:commandLink>
        <h:commandButton id="button1" action="#{MyBean.action2}" value="button" />
    </h:form>
    <f:verbatim><script>
        function myFunction() {
            document.getElementById('form1:link1').onclick(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action1}
            document.getElementById('form1:button1').click(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action2}
    </script></f:verbatim>I haven't tried other ways yet. But this might give you an idea.

  • Best Practices of using AJAX with JSF : BluePrints or  Ajax4Jsf ?

    am a newbie to AJAX4JSF . I think it provides Rapid Application Development (RAD) just by using tags like a4j: without the need to develop complex JSF Custom Components as shown in BluePrints Catalog
    https://bpcatalog.dev.java.net/ajax/jsf-ajax/
    I understand the purpose of developing JSF Custom components as Reusable for using with AJAX. But its complex and requires lot of coding i.e. PhaseListeners and Managed Beans. There should be easy way to do this especially our project needs RAD tool like AJAX4JSF.
    Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
    Regards
    Bansi

    Bansi, you are trying to compare orange-to-apple. Blue print catalog is a historical retrospection about what people thought about AJAXifying JSF in the past. Currently, the playground has been moved to the jsf-extension project. Look for DynaFaces there.

  • Can I use Ajax with jsf

    Hi All,
    Is JSF 1.1 supports AJAX or not???
    Please tell me..

    JSF RI 1.1 = Java Server Faces Reference Implementation 1.1.
    It is the Sun reference implementation of JSF. There are also 3rd party implementations of JSF available, like MyFaces, Tomahawk, IceFaces, ADF, etcetera.
    If you aren't limited to JSF RI version 1.1, I recommend you to use version 1.2. It provides more features and benefits.

  • Executing AJAX with a JSF Button

    Is there a way to get a JSF Button to fire off an AJAX event, which could call a Page Bean method?
    I'm thinking something like a DropDown's valueChangeListenerExpression...you can assign a method to it and, when the DropDown is changed, it fires off method without submitting the page.
    actionListenerExpression does not seem to do this.
    Any ideas?

    I'm using Woodstock components.
    I don't necessarily think its a component library issue, though. I simply want to be able to fire off an AJAX event with any component I want, whether its changing a pulldown or clicking a link/button.
    For example, a workaround for this would be to have the button modify the value of a hidden field. This would then fire off the processValueChange method of the component via AJAX and then I could put my code in there. It just doesn't make sense to me why I wouldn't be able to do this directly.

  • Problem with JSF AJAX portlets

    I am seeing the following issues with JSF portlets
    1) When you AJAX enable the portlet, they will not work. There are some javascript errors on the component we are using. They work fine if we don't AJAX enable them
    2) I had 2 portlets. 1 JSF and 1 pageflow portlet. If I click on a link in pageflow portlet and after the page gets refreshed, nothing will work in JSF potlet. Again javacript errors
    If we had only 1 portlet on the page, JSF portlet works fine
    Do you think the prototype javacript library used in the portal causing any issues?

    I tried with <naming:namingContainer> immediatly after the f:view tag , but still getting same errors
    I am psoting the generated html and javascript error

  • Custom JSF component with custom value datatype

    I've created a simple custom JSF component with a decode, encodeBegin as follows:
    public void decode(FacesContext context) {
        Map<String, String> requestParameters = context.getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap();
        String clientId = getClientId(context);
        String value = requestParameters.get(clientId);
        setSubmittedValue(value);
        super.decode(context);
    public void encodeBegin(FacesContext context) throws IOException {
        ResponseWriter response = context.getResponseWriter();
        String clientId = getClientId(context);
        response.startElement("input", this);
        response.writeAttribute("name", clientId, "id");
        response.writeAttribute("type", "text", null);
        String value = (String) getValue();
        if (null != value) {
             response.writeAttribute("value", value, "value");
        response.endElement("input");
    }With also:
    setRendererType(null);as part of the constructor.
    This component works just fine both inside and outside of a dataTable component, as expected.
    What I would like to do now is to replace the String value datatype with a custom class, for example MyDataType. For this I do:
    public void decode(FacesContext context) {
        Map<String, String> requestParameters = context.getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap();
        String clientId = getClientId(context);
        String value = requestParameters.get(clientId);
        MyDataType myData = (MyDataType) getValue();
        MyDataType newData = (MyDataType) myData.clone();
        newData.setValue(value);
        // copy old object and only update the changed field of this object
        setSubmittedValue(newData);
        super.decode(context);
    public void encodeBegin(FacesContext context) throws IOException {
        ResponseWriter response = context.getResponseWriter();
        String clientId = getClientId(context);
        response.startElement("input", this);
        response.writeAttribute("name", clientId, "id");
        response.writeAttribute("type", "text", null);
        MyDataType value = (MyDataType) getValue();
        if (null != value) {
             response.writeAttribute("value", value.getValue(), "value");
        response.endElement("input");
    }Now this works perfect outside of a dataTable component, but inside it fails to update the property on the BB.
    Are there somewhere examples on how to properly use custom datatypes as values for UIInput components? Also how to only partially update the value (like I do, I only want to update the value field of the MyDataType object)

    Even if I encode the entire MyDataType via hidden input elements and decode it again (i.e. not using a cloned getValue) it's still not working side a dataTable.
    Could it have to do something with me using Facelets?

  • Using an LOV populated by AJAX in JSF page (Jdev 10.1.3.3)

    Hello
    I have a field on the JSF page which is associated with a ajax based LOV. The problem is that when we select a value and 'submit' the page, the value passed to the bean is null. I thought that was because we didn't have the bindings correct. However when define the bindings I get errors during run time.
    My code snippet looks as follows:
    <h:selectOneMenu id="series"
    styleClass="textfield"
    style="width:60px;"
    onchange="getLocation();"
    onfocus="getLocation();"
    binding="#{mydata.series}"
    immediate="true" />
    Get Locations
    Is there anyway I can do this without using ADF?.
    The error message I get is:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Conversion Error setting value ''{0}'' for ''{1}''.      at com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.SelectOneMenuTag.doEndTag(SelectOneMenuTag.java:515)     at pages.dataEntry._jspService(_dataEntry.java:129)     [pages/dataEntry.jsp]
    Any workarounds/tips appreciated !!.
    Thanks and regards
    Prakash

    Hi,
    ADF does not have anything to do with it because its only an optional binding layer to use with JSF. My thinking is that your "Ajax" list (though I don't see Ajax in your code snippet) doesn't update the field so the component becomes aware of this change.

  • Asycronous page load with JSF

    We are looking to develop a portlet/widget type page in JSF (2.0) and would like to set it up so that each widget load concurrently. So the intial page would render and then each component would render after that. It doesn't appear that we can have more than one ajax call execute at a time with JSF. I was wondering what is the best way to accomplish this. I know iframes would work, but I am a little reluctant to go down that path. Are there any other ways this can be done with a standard JSF application?

    The trouble with JSF is that it is oriented on the business side of things and not the front-end; what you have here however is a strong front-end requirement. I'll be very blunt there: if these sort of requirements are important then JSF is not the right choice for this application.
    You mention portlets; something like this is perhaps an option?
    http://www.hascode.com/2011/07/creating-portlets-with-java-server-faces-2-and-liferay/
    I don't know if this solves your requirement of asynchronously loading widgets though.

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.

  • How to load a class dynamically (via reflection) in a jsf-component

    Hi all,
    I am writing my own jsf component and I would like to do it generically. Therefore I have an attribute, where the developer can pass a fully qualified classname, which I want to use to instantiate. But I have a Problem with the classloaders, everytime I get a ClassNotFound-Exception during debugging.
    Does anybody know how it is possible, to to get the most parent classloader?
    Currently I am even not able to load a class, which is in the same package like all other compontent-classes.
    Thank you very much in advance
    Thomas

    Within web applications, I believe it is recommended to use Thread.getContextClassLoader(). Keep in mind that web applications require different classloader semantics than regular Java applications. The class loader which gets resources from the WAR is favored over others, even when this violates the normal class loading conventions.

  • How can I include a javaScript files from within jsf component

    Is there any way using which I can include javascript files from my jsf component. Because otherwise I have to write all the javascript commands using writer.write which is very tedious rather than this I just want to include the javascript file which contains all the functions required. Also I want that this file should be included only once irrespective of the number of components included.
    Thanx in advance

    This doesn't depend on JSF. You need to include a script tag, like:
    <script src="/path/script.js"
    language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></script>
    If you want to include this only once, make a file included into every page, into which you can put other resources to be included along with this script.
