Alerts in process chain

Hi,
While adding alerts (sending an email)  in case of process chain failure, what is the recipient type if it is an internal company emails?
Also, is it possible to send an alert if the process chain didn't run as scheduled?
Edited by: P R on Jan 7, 2011 5:14 PM

Hi ,
1. You need to select the Recepient type as "Internet address".
2. Yes, we can get the alerts when the Process chain did not trigger as scheduled. This could be done only when the Process chain step parameters are configured on BPM tool.
We need to maintain some thershold values, so that if that crosses the time limits we will get a mail alert that it was not run.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.

  • Email Alert for Process Chain for ABAP Process Type

    Hi BW Experts,
I created a process chain based on ABAP Process Type ( for Broadcasting rsrd_broadcast_starter). I want to add alert message for each ABAP process if it is failed. But I cant see any option showing Successfull or Error or Always when I select create message option on the process type. How ever I can see for other process chain which is loading data (Process Type is Info Package ) from SAP into BW.
Please some one tell me why it is not showing alert message for ABAP Process Type.
    Thanks

I dont have the exact answer for your question, But as a work around i can suggest you that.
If these ABAP programs are included in a chain and this local chain is a part of meta chain then you can create a message on the local chain.By right clicking on the local chain >Create Message>Success
                                                                                    --->Failure
    >Always
Hope this resolves the problem tempervorly.I will get back to you once i have
    Or the permanent solution is
Its big and also easy method to perform, by this you will be able to get all the options for a ABAP Program also.If you have any questions please let me know.

  • Raising an alert at the end of process chain execution

    Hello ,
I have a requirement, where I have to raise an
alert(not an e-mail) in Alert Server at the end of data loading process through a process chain.
Is there solution for above requirement?.
    Regards
    MB

    Hi ,
Thank you for taking time and answering my question.
I have found a solution to raise the alert at the end of loading a target through process chain.
    Solution :
There is no out of the box option to raise the alert from process chain.
SAP has given a SALRT_CREATE_API function to raise the alert. We have used this function with "ABAP process type" in process chain to raise the alert.

  • Process chain email alert issue

    Hi,
I'm working with BASIS to get the email alert for Process chains working.
We've done the following so far:
    1. Created a mail exchange group "SAP BW" with all required email addresses
    2. In the Process chain, created a message variant and assigned the above private distribution list
    3. BASIS configured SMTP in SCOT to reference the correct port and mail path
    4. In SU01, Security added email addresses which were missing earlier for everyone in the distribution list
    5. BASIS scheduled a job to run every 5 minutes to collect and send emails
I just ran a test process chain and failed a few loads. However, none of us are getting emails in our inbox. What step are we missing? Is there anything else we should be looking at?
    Thanks,
    Pooja.

    few more things to check
    1. Is the mail sent from SO01 working correctly?
    2. Are the mails sent getting accumulated and seen in SCOT transaction queue?
    3. Did you try using Individual addresses instead of distribution list?
These might help in boiling down to the actual problem though may not solve it. good luck!

    Hi,
I have a requirement as follows.
On successful execution of process chain an email must be sent to a group of users.
I have made a distribution list using Tcode SO23 and included the message in the last step of process chain. But no messsge is being sent even on successful execution of process chain.
Can anyone throw light on this?

  • Authorizations setting for running the process chain

    Hai
Iam planning to run the process chain for loading the data into ODS. But i dont have authorization for it.
so what are the authorizations i need to run the process chain in my system. And how can i set all those authorizations to my user-id.  I have all authorization rights .
    Pls let me knw
    kumar

    Hi,
    Authorizations for Process Chains
    Use
You use authorization checks in process chain maintenance to lock the process chain, and the processes of the chain, against actions by unauthorized users.
    ·        You control whether a user is allowed to perform specific activities.
    ·        You control whether a user is allowed to schedule the processes in a chain.
The authorization check for the processes in a chain runs when the system performs the check. This takes place upon scheduling or during synchronous execution. The check is performed in display mode. The check is performed for each user that schedules the chain; it is not performed for the user who executes the chain. The user who executes the chain is usually the BI background user. The BI background user automatically has the required authorizations for executing all BI process types. In attribute maintenance for the process chain, you can determine the user who is to execute the process chain.
See also: Display/Maintenance of Process Chain Attributes ®  Execution User.
    Features
For the administration processes that are bundled in a process chain, you require authorization for authorization object S_RS_ADMWB.
To work with process chains, you require authorization for authorization object S_RS_PC. You use this authorization object to determine whether process chains can be displayed, changed or executed, and whether logs can be deleted. You can use the name of the process chain as the basis for the restriction, or restrict authorizations to chains using the application components to which they are assigned.
    Display/Maintain Process Chain Attributes
    Use
You can display technical attributes, display or create documentation for a process chain, and determine the response of process chains during execution.
    Features
You can display or maintain the following attributes for a process chain:
    Process Chain ® Attribute ® ...
    Information
    Description
    ( Rename)
You can change the name of the process chain.
    Display Components
Display components are the evaluation criterion in the process chain maintenance. Assigning the process chains to display components makes it easier to access the chain you want.
To create a new display component, choose Assign Display Components in the input help window and assign a technical name and description for the display component in the Display Grouping dialog box that appears.
    Documents
You can create and display documents for a process chain.
    For more information, see Documents.
    Last Changed By
Displays the technical attributes of the process chain:
    ·        When it was last changed and who by
    ·        When it was last activated and who by
    ·        Object directory entry
    Evaluation of Process Status
If you set this indicator, all the incorrect processes in this chain and in the overall status of the run are evaluated as successful; if you have scheduled a successor process upon error or always.
The indicator is relevant when using metachains: Errors in the processes of the subchains can be evaluated as “unimportant” for the metachain run. The subchain is evaluated as successful, despite errors in such processes of the subchain. If, in the metachain, the successor of the subchain is scheduled upon success, the metachain run continues despite errors in “unimportant” processes of the subchain.
Mailing and alerting are not affected by this indicator and are still triggered for incorrect processes if they have an upon error successor.
    Polling Indicator
With this indicator you can control the response of the main process for distributed processes. Distributed processes, such as the load process, are characterized as having different work processes involved in specific tasks.
With the polling indicator you determine whether the main process needs to be kept until the actual process has ended.
    By selecting the indicator:
    -         A high level of process security is guaranteed, and
    -         External scheduling tools can be provided with the status of the distributed processes.
However, the system uses more resources; and a background process is required.
    Monitoring
With the indicator in the dialog box Remove Chain from Automatic Monitoring?, you can specify that a process chain be removed from the automatic monitoring using CCMS.
By default CCMS switches on the automatic process chain monitoring.
For more information about the CCMS context Process Chains, see the section BW Monitor in CCMS.
    Alerting
You can send alerts using alert management when errors occur in a process chain.
For more information, see Send Alerts for Process Chains.
    Background Server
You can specify here on which server or server group all of the jobs of a chain are scheduled. If you do not make an entry, the background management distributes the jobs between the available servers.
    Processing Client
If you use process chains in a client-dependent application, you can determine here in which client the chain is to be used. You can only display, edit, schedule or execute the chain in this client.
If you do not maintain this attribute, you can display, edit, schedule or execute the process chain in all clients.
Process variants of type General Services that are contained in a process chain with this attribute set will only be displayed in the specified client.
This attribute is transported. You can change it by specifying an import client during import. You must create a destination to the client set here in the target system for the import post processing (transaction RSTPRFC)  The chain is activated after import and scheduled, if necessary, in this client.
    Execution User
In the standard setting a BI background user executes the process chain (BWREMOTE).
You can change the default setting so that you can see the user that executes the process chain and therefore the processes, in the Job Overview. You can select the current dialog user who schedules the process chain job, or specify a different user.
    The setting is transported.
The BI background user has all the necessary authorizations to execute all BI process types. Other users must assign themselves these authorizations so that authorization errors do not occur during processing.
    Job Priority
You use this attribute to set the job priority for all of the jobs in a process chain.

  • Using Alert Framework to send email notifications when Process Chain fails

    Hi Everyone,
I've configured ALRTCATDEF in Solution Manager, selected the alerting option for Process Chains in - RSPC > Attributes > Alerting, but it looks like whenever any process chain fails, an email notification will be sent to the same recipients.
Is there anyway to have an ALRCATDEF - alert category for different process chains, so that different recipients receive notifications for different Process Chains.
    Thanks,
    Ken

Interesting....I was actually hoping for different recipients for different process chains.
    E.g. for our
CRM process chain - Support Team 1
FI process chain - Support Team 2
and so on and so on.
I think the only way may be creating a custom process type and implementing a class for this process type that calls function SALRT_CREATE_API. Then adding this process type to the process chain, with a different variant for each.
However if anyone knows a way to do this in a SAP standard way using the Alert Framework, that would be great.
    Cheers,
    Ken

  • Sending an Alert e-mail on execution of process chain containing ATTACHMENT

    Hi Experts,
Need your help on the following,
We have a scenario where system must send an e-mail to the recipients, on the exection of a Process in the Process Chain.
This mail should contain a specific text file from SAP-Directory(AL11) as ATTACHMENT or the content of file should be directly read in to the mail, anything will work.

To send an Alert e-mail when the process chain is executed
you need to create a message setting while creating the process chain.
Suppose you want to send a mail after execution of DTP
    then just do the following
right click on the DTP process in the chain and you will get a option to create message.
you'll be asked when on what condition you want to send message 1Success 2 error 3always. select as per you r requirement
select that option and a new window will appear
in the new window press Reciepent button and add recipients of the mail as per you requiremnt
press back button and save, then press create message button
here you can enter the text you want to send, other then that message wil send the status and number od records added and transfered , by default.
hope this solves your problem ..:)

  • Alerts not updated / still grey in BPMON BI Process Chain

    Hi All,
We have Solution manager 7.1 SP08. We configured BPMON for BI PRocess chains.
We are unable to get any alerts for process failures. All the alerts are Grey.
This is what we have observerd:
    1. We get alerts for failure to start if I mention "Not Started On Time (marked for 14:00)" and "Start Delay" alone.
    2. No alerts are generated for the Status of the chain. I have provided Yellow for Status J and Red for R,X or J.
    3. The BW Process Chain Identification - Start Procedure is set to "User chain start condition".
    4. The Alert for STart Delay seems to get triggered only at midnight of everyday (00:00). Is this normal?
When I check the rspcm logs, the chain we have configured seems to have errors at 00:37 and every one hour from then.
The BI and Solman systems are in different time zones in SAP System level.
I have checked note 1436853 and all are in order. None of the notes can be implemented in the satellite system.
I have provided full authorization for both the user id logged in to BPMON as well as the connection user to the BI system.
Can you please suggest what we missed in the configuration?
I had configured Purchase requisition monitoring for ECC system, Background job monitoring for the BI system also. These seem to work fine.
Only the BI Process chain status and related montioring seem to be grey all the time.
    Thanks and regards,
    Raghavan

    Hi,
BW process chain alerts are purely depends on the start procedure you define during the alert configuration.
Moreover if you wont get any alerts if the bw proces chain not started or it started before the configured time, in such case you can use "not started on time" with tentative starting time of the process, or you can use "out of time window" to set the time slot where the chain didnt run.
please check https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700006137532006E page number 76

  • Process Chain alerts not visible in UWL

I have carried out the weblog test that Ginger published at
    /people/ginger.gatling/blog/2005/06/16/integrating-alerts-into-uwl--its-no-problem
    and everthing worked fine.
We are, however, trying to use Process Chain alerts from CCMS.  These alerts are visible if we run transaction RZ20 in the back end system but the UWL does not see them.
Is there a guide or something showing how to configure this?
    Thank you

    Hi Bernard,
I've checked out a couple of systems - you can create alert categories for process chain alerts, and once you have the category you can of course assign recipients.
In fact you should see some existing categories in your system for process chains in transaction ALRTCATDEF.
The UWL essentially reflects what is in the BSP ALRTINBOX as it is using the same/similar routines to derive the alert inbox worklist.   So if you don't have anything in ALRTINBOX then it is correct that nothing is showing in UWL inbox as well.
You need to set up the categories and recipients against your process chain alerts.
I'm not all that familiar with BI Process Chains but a couple of minutes looking at the IMG in transaction SPRO showed that in transaction RSPC when you select a process chain you can use menu option Settings > Maintain Alert Categories to make the link between the process chain and the alert categories.  You'll probably know what to enter here better than I do.

    Jocelyn
