  • How to use non-default Alias Table in Analyzer report

    Hi,I defined many alias tables in Essbase. I would like to use a different alias table other than the "default" in Analyzer 6.5 report. In the on-line help, it said I can modify in "database connection properties" when first defining a new report to use a specific alias table. It tells me to do the following: Click the "New" toolbar button. Select a Display Type or Layout, and click OK. Right-click a database connection name in the "Select Database Connections" dialog box, and select Modify from the right-click menu.So I did this, but as I did the last-right click, there is no "Modify" option available. Only has "Add New..", "Database Connection Properties.." However, if I defined a new personal database connection using the login user, I can select to use other alias table. But this will go to personal database connection properties.Is it possible to specifically tell Analyzer to use other alias the global level in database connection? What I use to do is to have certain reports to use the default alias, and another to use another alias table. These reports should be able to share across all users.Sam

    In deed it is fix in the GA.Another way to set the alias table is to do it in the Admin client. If you add a connexion to a user there is a new 6.5 button "set alias" that allow you to set the default alias table for this specific user. But, it does not exit on a user group level.

  • How to set alias using Essbase Studio?

    I have read through P113-P118 "Oracle Essbase Studio User Guide" about the how to set up alias. It seems easy t create the Alias Set according to the document.
    I want to set 100-10 alias as "Cola", the information comes from the TBC relational database. The product table in RLDB has field SKU and SKU_Alias columns, the value of SKU is: 100-10,100-20, etc.
    My binding is:
    Source: SKU
    connection : TBC::TBC.Product.SKU_ALIAS
    This is using the grammer in page 115
    connection :
    \'<logical_source_name'::'<physical_data_source_name>.<physical_tabl
    e_name>'.'<physical_column_name>'
    But after I deployed the cube, I cannot see the product alias name as expected from EAS? I tried 100 times, but cannot find what's wrong with me. Please advise, thanks!
    My question: How to set up or associate the alias set with the product items from Essbase Studio so that I can see it from EAS? thanks! Bob

    First it may be useful to convert the EIS TBC model to Studio, to do this you would have to configure EIS and create the TBC sample application.
    Once it has been created in Studio you can go to Tools > EIS Catalog migration and migrate the TBC app from EIS to Studio.
    If you use this method all the aliases etc will be already set up so you can see how it is done.
    To set up Aliases you would go to
    Tools > "Alias set Manager" > Create a new alias say "Default" and add a binding e.g. PRODUCTDIM.SKU to PRODUCTDIM.SKUALIAS
    Then on your Model right click "Essbase Properties" > Alias tab > Select the Default alias table and move to the selected tables window.
    This should of then assigned the default table, if you check the properties of say PRODUCTDIM.SKU in the alias tab Default and the mapping should be shown.
    Cheers

  • Essbase & Analyzer Backup

    Hi everybody,In Essbase 6.1 and Analyzer Release 5.03, is there anyway to do the backup automatically such as a script or something? It would be much easier if we can schedule it at a certain period of time when we want to make a backup operation.Thanks.

    For Essbase, you can create a batch file that does beginarchives to put the databases in read only mode then do your backup, then do endarchives to put the databases back into read/write mode. You can use Windows scheduler or a third party scheduler to schedule these at a specific time. For Analyzer, use SQLserver scheduler to do a backup of the database at a scheduled time. Glenn S.

  • Essbase/ Analyzer 5.0.x server setup/ thin client access

    Hi all,We are in the process of implementing Analyzer/ Essbase in our company, and would like to have it spread throughout the enterprise. We are very new to this and somewhat inexperienced. We would definitely like to use thin client for Analyzeer, b/c of the many different departments/ # of users, and to plan for future growth. We are currently using Essbase v. 6.1.4 and would like to use Analyzer to view the data, along with reports creation. The server is configured as follows:c: (OS,Hyperion software)-4GB NT4 sp6a128 d: (index) 10 GB e: (data) 80-100 Gb We have plenty of disk space and memory.Can anyone, from experience, please assist me wih config. recommendations- hardware, and software, along with virtual memory, IIS config? I have read the manuals, but would like to hear from users with real-life experience. Thank you in advance- any input is greatly appreciated. Take care...

    If you are going to use the web based Analyzer, you may want to consider 6.0. I do not believe Analyzer 5.0 web client has all the functionality of 5.0 windows client. Analyzer 6.0 web addresses this issue.As for installation, because of some of the web application setup complexities, we had a Hyperion consultant install it for us. We are using Oracle 8.1.7 as the respository and IIS as our web server.Hope this helps.Patrick DeKenippBusiness Systems AnalystEstee Lauder [email protected]

  • Alias in Essbase Studio

    I am using Essbase studio as a new.I have 2 columns in database with 'Account' in the fisrt column and ' Account Balance' as a alias as like
    Memeber | alias
    account | account balance.(member field and alias field are coming from database).
    I am trying to use alias set to do it.when i am creating alias set, in the binding expression it gives me a "expression must be a type of string" .It happend several times and i am stopped at there.I dont understand why it is giving me that error.Please Let me know , process to populate alias through Studio to Essbase.

    Aliases are expected to be text not other data types. If you want you can use the tostring function in Studio to convert it to a string

  • Product Positioning Essbase/Analyzer versus Hyperion Intelligence

    We have both Analyzer and Intelligence as well as Essbase. We are in the process of defining standards as to when each tool or combination of tools would be utilized as a solution. The tools overlap a bit, so I am seeking assistance. Please help!!

    I was just reading Analyzer 7.0 Administrator's Guide which has a pretty detailed description of what is needed to be done for Analyzer. It also references the common file used in the setup, so I expect that there is similar documentation in the current release of Essbase.I've been looking forward to implementing this for a number of years as Hyperion has moved slowly. Now it looks like this fall, I'll be able to use external authentication for Essbase and Analyzer.

  • How to add alias column by generation? (Essbase integrated into OBIEE11g)

    Hi all,
    I implemented both English and Chinese for alias in Essbase. Now, I have imported the essbase cube into RPD. And, I would like to create alias columns for each dimension. I followed the steps in this website "http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-enhancements-to-essbase-support/". However, the alias columns can only be found in Business Model and Mapping layer, but these columns cannot be found in Physical layer. Moreover, there is only ONE alias column is generated for each dimension. Even if a dimension has several generations, there is only ONE alias column is generated. However can I create alias columns for dimension by generation concept?

    Hi Lcerni,
    To Extract Data from sql database and insert the extracted data to datatable, please go through this article:
    Use PowerShell to Collect Server Data and Write to SQL
    A common task for a database professional is collecting and loading data from multiple servers into central utility database. Using the invoke-sqlcmd2 function, we can extract data from a SQL Server data source, but to load data we have to introduce a new
    function called Write-DataTable. The
    Write-DataTable Windows PowerShell function can be found in the Scripting Guys Script Repository.
    The Write-DataTable function uses the .NET
    Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy class to load an in-memory DataTable or
    DataRow array into a SQL Server table.
    $dt = invoke-sqlcmd2 -ServerInstance "Z003\R2" -Database "master" -InputFile ./get-dbspace.sql -As 'DataTable'
    #To load the DataTable into our SQL Server table we'll call the Write-DataTable function:
    Write-DataTable -ServerInstance "Z003\R2" -Database "dbutility" -TableName "db_space" -Data $dt
    If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Backwards and upwards compatibility on essbase, EAC and Analyzer

    we have running essbase/analyzer/EAC 7.1 environment and a running essbase/planning 9.3.1 environment.
    It occurs to us that modifying the 9.3.1 environment with the EAS7.1 tool results in a essbase crash (without any information in the essbase log files).
    Is there any information for essbase about upwards and backwards compatibility from 7.1 and 9.3.1.

    In addition to Nathan's comments this would be a platform that Oracle hasn't regression tested. So even if it were to appear to work if you encountered an issue Oracle would be justified and asking you to re-create the same issue on a supported platform.
    In my opinion if this is a production application this is a risk you should not take.
    If you are playing with an internal environment and want to learn more about Win2K8 that's one thing. Realizing most folks will give you the "It's not supported line" when you start asking why EPMA, FDM, and HFM do not work with IIS 7.x

  • Limitation on Alias length

    Hi,
    Is there a limitation on the length of Alias in Essbase 9.3 ?
    Thanks

    I think the limit is still 80 characters on an alias.

  • Mass Change to Custom1 Alias

    A client wants to update all of its Alias conventions for Custom1 members. There are hundreds of members in the dimension so I am looking for the easiest way to make the mass change. I know I can extract the current metadata in APP format and dump into Excel, make changes there and then reload.
    Is there a more efficient way of doing this? Also, is there anything to consider when doing this, like potentially messing anything up?

    Dumping into Excel and upload should be the safest and most efficient option.
    If you are using the metadata for HFM only, it should be safe.
    The only common issues i can forsee is that if you have Smartview reports, these will no more refresh with the right POV as the descriptions in the application and reports no more match.
    If you are using the alias for Essbase and the the scripts are written using description, you have an uneviable task ahead :)

  • [oracle 10.2.0.4] My view is not merged

    Hi,
    I have a view which is not merged by the CBO. I mean the CBO decides to apply the filter predicate after the execution of the view.
    Here is the definition of the view
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW VUNSCP AS
    SELECT X.DASFM,X.COINT,X.NUCPT,X.RGCOD,X.RGCID,X.CODEV,X.CTDEV,X.CDVRF,X.TXCHJ,X.MTNLV,X.MTVDP,
           LEAD(X.MTNLV+X.MTVDP,1) OVER (PARTITION BY X.COINT,X.NUCPT,X.CDVRF,X.CTDEV,X.CODEV,X.RGCOD,X.RGCID  ORDER BY X.DASFM DESC),
           SUM(X.MTNLV) OVER (PARTITION BY X.COINT,X.CODEV,X.RGCOD)
    FROM SFMCPT XThe query is:
    explain plan for
    select * from VUNSCP where dasfm='30-apr-10';
    select * from table(dbms_xplan.display);
    Plan hash value: 2545326530
    | Id  | Operation           | Name   | Rows  | Bytes |TempSpc| Cost (%CPU)| Time     |
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT    |        |    13M|  1529M|       |   195K  (1)| 00:39:11 |
    |*  1 |  VIEW               | VUNSCP |    13M|  1529M|       |   195K  (1)| 00:39:11 |
    |   2 |   WINDOW SORT       |        |    13M|   646M|  1996M|   195K  (1)| 00:39:11 |
    |   3 |    TABLE ACCESS FULL| SFMCPT |    13M|   646M|       | 27991   (4)| 00:05:36 |
    Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
       1 - filter("DASFM"='30-apr-10')You can see that a FTS is performed on SFMCPT (>1 million of rows) and that the filter predicate is applied only after the view has been instantiated.
    So the index on DASFM can't be used.
    This query is returning about 30 000 rows. We see on the plan that the CBO is mistaken beacause it reckons that there's going to be 13M of rows.
    If I add the filter predicate directly on the view'script I get the correct plan:
    explain plan for
    SELECT X.DASFM,X.COINT,X.NUCPT,X.RGCOD,X.RGCID,X.CODEV,X.CTDEV,X.CDVRF,X.TXCHJ,X.MTNLV,X.MTVDP,
           LEAD(X.MTNLV+X.MTVDP,1) OVER (PARTITION BY X.COINT,X.NUCPT,X.CDVRF,X.CTDEV,X.CODEV,X.RGCOD,X.RGCID ORDER BY X.DASFM DESC),
           SUM(X.MTNLV) OVER (PARTITION BY X.COINT,X.CODEV,X.RGCOD)
    FROM SFMCPT X where dasfm='30-apr-10';
    select * from table(dbms_xplan.display);
    Plan hash value: 1865390099
    | Id  | Operation                    | Name    | Rows  | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time     |
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT             |         | 14357 |   729K| 13271   (1)| 00:02:40 |
    |   1 |  WINDOW SORT                 |         | 14357 |   729K| 13271   (1)| 00:02:40 |
    |   2 |   TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID| SFMCPT  | 14357 |   729K| 13269   (1)| 00:02:40 |
    |*  3 |    INDEX RANGE SCAN          | SFMCPT1 | 14357 |       |    67   (0)| 00:00:01 |
    Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
       3 - access("DASFM"='30-apr-10')The index is now used and the rows estimated seem closer to the actual rows.
    I tried several things:
    - disabling the "OPTIMZER_COST_BASED_TRANSFORMATION" hidden parameter
    - use the MERGE hint
    - alter session set optimizer_features_enable = '9.2.0.8';
    All these workarounds don't work => I'm still getting the bad execution plan.
    According to Jonathan LEWIS' s book the 9i optimzer always merge views But here even if I set the optimizer_features_enable parameter to 9i the view is not merged.
    It's sure that the issue is due to the analytical functions but why ?
    Can please someone help me to understand what is going on ?

  • How to increase the length of Hyperion Planning object_name

    In order to store a long member alias in outline, i modified the definition of field OBJECT_NAME and OLD_NAME in table HSP_OBJECT, and field OBJECT_NAME in table HSP_UNIQUE_NAME as varchar2(240). The default definitions of the fields in Hyperion Planning database are all varchar2(80). Then edit the alias in Hyperion Planning. However, when refreshing the database, the member alias in Essbase is modified as NULL. it seems that the long alias doesn't work.
    How can i fix this problem?

    find the following restrictions from essbase admin guide:
    Naming Restrictions for Dimensions, Members, and Aliases
    1-When naming dimensions, members, and aliases in the database outline, follow these rules:
    2-Use no more than 80 bytes when naming non-Unicode-mode dimensions, members, or
    aliases.
    3-Use no more than 80 characters when naming Unicode-mode dimensions, members, or
    aliases.
    4-Names are not case-sensitive unless case-sensitivity is enabled.
    hope this may help you.

  • Using Dense/Sparse Lookup on Tables or files from different Databases

    Hi,
    I have a Subject Area which is built on Essbase cube. I have a requirment where I have to use a Lookup on Flat file and/or Database Table.
    I followed below steps
    1. Created a Logical Column in BMM Layer for a cube dimension
    2. Opened the LTS Properties --> Column Mapping and gave below formula
    Lookup(SPARSE "Function1"."E:\502125500".""."Function2.txt"."ALIAS", 'NA', "TNWD06613.genpitfi01.og.ge.com"."GOGREP".""."GOGREP"."Gen5,Functions" )
    where
    Function1"."E:\502125500".""."Function2.txt"."ALIAS" ---> Column from File (Created File DSN and imported in RPD)
    "TNWD06613.genpitfi01.og.ge.com"."GOGREP" ---> Essbase Cube
    3. Dragged the Column to Presentation for Subject Area on Cube
    When I try to create a report on this column I get below error.

    Can anybody help me on the same?

    You can script schemas from all DBs and in case of conflicts you will have to decide what to do.
    For example if you have the same SP or UDF on two DBs that does different things, you need to decide what to do with them.
    Only if the conflict is tables with the same structure and without KEY constraints and you can also script data and go on.
    If you have PK-FK relationships (which I bet is the case) you really need to design your changes based on them and I suspect you will end up scripting instead of putting boxes on SSIS.
    It really is a migration job for an experienced DBA and am afraid SSIS can do that much as
    Integrate.. not Migrate.
