Alias table name?

Question

Can you help me understand what is wrong in this sql statement?
select table1.*, rownum rnum from (
select * from table1, table2
WHERE (table2.field1 = T1.field1)
) table1 T1
SQL Error: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
I think there is alias T1 because the follow sql statement work:
select table1.*, rownum rnum from (
select * from table1
) table1

it seems (to me at least), you had an alias in the wrong place
