Alignment of  UML objects

When using Activity Diagram i am facing a problem with alignment of the arrows and Activities , when clicking on layouts it all becomes a mess. How can i simply align arrow lines and/or Activities similar to JSC 2 or Visio as objects are aligned to the grid.
If you want me to elaborate more, please write.

Hopefully this will appear in the JES 8 .
Is that the plan?

  • Align to locked objects in Illustrator

    Hello,
    I recently switched from Freehand to Illustrator. In Freehand you could lock an object or group and align other objects to the locked ones. In Illustrator this is not possible, because you cannot select an object that is locked.
    How can I do this, then ? Can't believe that this shouldn't be possible !
    Thank you.

    why are you locked the object first select the object after that center point will appear you click on it after  that  select another object which is align the first object verticall horizentally

  • How can I align a text object by the visible text and NOT by its bounding box?

    Illustrator CS4.
    I am trying to align some text to the center of the artboard. The bounding box is bigger than the text, so when I try to align it to the artboard it doesn't actually center align the artwork as I need it to. The text is needing to be aligned with another text object, so I can't just center align the text and then align to the artboard (which would eliminate the bounding box problem, I think). To make matters worse, the text I want to align has a stroke.
    The only way I know to currently align the text properly is to convert it to outlines. This is what I've done, but I need something better. I want to be able to have my illustrator file that has all editable text and then be able to make a separate identical file with all text converted to outlined paths. The only thing holding me back right now is that I can't get the exact alignment while everything is still as text.

    The solution is to simple to believe and probably why you over looked it.
    You make two text frames to exactly the height and width of the text. You position the text in the relative location and then group the text frames  then center that group on the artboard.
    Like such:
    If you ever want to add text that should be no problem but you have to re center.

  • Moving, aligning, and distributing objects

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-62f2a .html

    @kisanbhat,
    As I said, there isn't any direct way to make a point on one polygon snap onto a stroke on another polygon unless you move just the one point (which of course changes the shape of the path). But you can get very close visually.
    I recommend turning on Outline mode (Ctrl-Y) so you won't be misled by stroke thickness or antialiasing.
    If you want one apex to align perfectly with an apex on the second triangle, Smart Guides will snap the points together as you drag one triangle so that onecorner touches the other triangle's corner.
    If you want the faces to align without any of their control points being on top of one another (as in my illustration in an earlier post), then you'll have to do without snapping. (With the Direct Select tool, you can snap a single point on the first object onto a second object's path, but the other points won't move.)
    What I would do is turn OFF Smart Guides so there won't be any inconvenient snapping to verticals, horizontals, etc. Then zoom in, and drag the first triangle until one apex is visually aligned on the desired side of the second triangle.
    Leave the first triangle selected. Click the Rotate tool (R), find the little "center of rotation marker", and drag the marker until it snaps onto the apex you just positioned.
    Then click anywhere on the artboard and drag. This will rotate the first triangle around the marked apex, and you can visually align the side on top of the other triangle's side.
    It would be nice if Smart Guides provided this kind of snapping, because then you'd get mathematically optimized alignment of the two points of the first triangle along the edge of the second triangle, but they don't work that way. I highly recommend visiting AstuteGraphics.com to try their "SubScribe" tool, which I believe is free. It should be updated for CS6 very soon now. (Their other vector tools are also quite amazing.)
    I hope this helps. If you need more info, I made a short video:  http://acobb.com/temp/rotateTriangle.wmv

  • Aligning and Distributing objects in InDesign

    Hi,
    I am using InDesign CS4. But I am having a trouble aligning objects. I know that in illustrator it is possible to align objects to a main object. For example, lets say I have several same square shapes on my page. I can make any one of the squares as the main object for others to get aligned or distributed to.
    I wanted to do the same thing in InDesign but was never able to do that. I wonder if it is even possible to do that. InDesign doesn't seem to have that option. But it was such a handy tool.
    Can you help me with the trick?

    Thanks Peter Spier. I am sorry for the misleading information. You were right about the alignment and distribution tools. On my CS4, the Alignment option works with the locked object, but the Distribue Objects and Distribute with Set Space doesn't work with a locked object. I am trying to use the distribute with a set spacing around "the main object". In other words, it will make my work a lot easier if I first align an object at a certain point on the page and then use two other text frames on both sides of the object with an equal spacing (using the Distribute Spacing tool).
    I hope it makes a sence. Thanks.

  • CS5 problems with aligning to key object?

    I use guides as key objects for alignment no problem in CS4 for Mac, but in CS5 the objects just fly off somewhere not visible anywhere in file. I've checked prefs but can't see anything that would create this behavior, and Aligning to Pixel Grid does not seem to matter. Still works fine in CS4. I could draw a line to align to as a work around, but this would be tedious. Aligning to selection and artboard is working correctly. Has anybody else noticed this or know what could be causing it? Thank you in advance for your help.

    forgot about the Preview Bounds but still in all if you need the option then this is nasty, I also forgot this is so old and issue.
    Really should be addressed in a point release or ext version.
    If there were someone here who could argue the issue to the right people it might be meaningful.

  • Align and Distribute Objects Evenly around a Circular Path

    How do I align objects and distribute evenly on a circular path? Especially if the objects are straight lines and I want them to be placed vertically and evenly around a circle. For example, the hash marks on a speedometer are vertical lines, but distributed evenly in a circular shape. I've gone throught the align/distribute video, but doesn't explain circular paths. I have Adobe CS3 for Windows XP.

    I've done this many times and there's a simple trick to it as long as you want an even number of tick marks. Make the line, duplicate it, move one of the lines below the other, and align them horizontally. Group the lines and bring up the Transform dialog. Click on Preview so you can see what you're doing. Enter the number of copies you want and then the angle to rotate the copies. You should see a perfectly arranged circle of lines. Expand Appearance to work with the lines further.
    Example: to make the tick marks for a clock face, make the first pair of lines, group them, make 5 copies, and rotate 30 degrees.

  • Alignment off upon object placement

    I just started to do a new project for a lower 3rd title. I placed a shape and opened up the 3d adjust tool. When i tried to rotate the object (along the x axis) the object wasn't aligned straight (i could see the back of the 3d circle instead of it just looking like a line as it would if i were looking straight on.) I checked both the object and the camera in the inspector and none showed any rotation. Further more when the object was rotated to what looked like 90 degrees it was actually at 80.3 degrees.
    any ideas?
    thanks

    Have you checked the camera's position? If it's off center, then that might explain it. An object will only look like a line if viewed at 90 degree rotation at the center of the frame.

  • Left Aligning an Anchor object in a horizontal scroll

    I'm sure the answer to this is going to be so simple I'll be forced to learn how to kick myself.
    I have a website that contains a static header section and a table row that contains a number of pictures in a horizontal scroll.  The rest of the page does not scroll, just this one table row.
    I want to be able to designate some of the pictures as the starting point for a new section.   So I created an reference link at the top of the page,
    <a href="#portraits">PORTRAITS</a>
    and then designated one of the pictures to be the target
    Start of table row
    <table><tr>
    <td>...........pictures
    <td><a name="portraits">
    <img src="gallery/5a.gif" alt="" class="transparent5" /></a>
    <p class="notes">PORTRAITS</p>
    <p class="title">&rarr; </p></td>
    <td>
    ........continues on,
    So the question is, once a user clicks the reference how can I ensure the target aligns on the left side of the page?    currently what is happening is it is just being brought into view on the right hand side.     This isn't the estetic the site owner wants.
    Thanks for looking.

    Hi Nancy, (or anyone else with input )
    I can't seem to invoke the horizontal scroll for the site.  It may be because I have the scrolling in a single table within the body and the script seems to be calling out the full <body> tag for the target.
    my feeble attempt is here - http://www.lightmonkey.ca/indexjs.html
    The button list looks like this,
    <ul id="nav" class="scroll"  >
        <a href="#portraits">PORTRAITS   </a>
        <a href="#performance">PERFORMANCE     </a>
        <a href="#editorial">LIFESTYLE + EDITORIAL      </a>
        <a href="#industrial">INDUSTRIAL      </a>
        <span class="style6"><a href="http://lightmonkeyphotography.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">BLOG  </a></span>
        <a href="#contact">CONTACT </a></ul></td>
    So I think the JS function will call 'ul.scroll'  according to the syntax from the tutorial site, (bold in snippet at bottom)
    The start of the scrolling table looks like this,
    <div id="main"><div id="gallery">
    <table><tr>
    <td><a name="portraits">
    <img src="gallery/5.gif" alt="" class="transparent5" /></a>
    <p class="notes">PORTRAITS</p>
    <p class="title">&rarr; </p></td>
    <td>
    etc
    so what would be the function target?  (target, my term, also in bold in the snippet below)
    <!-- The JavaScript -->
            <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script>
            <script type="text/javascript" src="reffile/easing.js"></script>
            <script type="text/javascript">
                $(function() {
                    $('ul.scroll a').bind('click',function(event){
                        var $anchor = $(this);
                        if you want to use one of the easing effects:
                        $('html, body').stop().animate({
                            scrollLeft: $($anchor.attr('href')).offset().left
                        }, 1500,'easeInOutExpo');
                        $('html, main').stop().animate({
                            scrollLeft: $($anchor.attr('href')).offset().left
                        }, 1000);
                        event.preventDefault();
            </script>
    Any suggestions on this?
    Thanks again!  tried to just figure it out but 3 dozen combinations have not worked out....

  • How can I align mask with object in Y axis?

    Hi
    Can anybody help me? I want to put small band on the upper arm of man in the scene, he is walking from right to left, I put my image in upper layer and made rectangle band and animated it with his arm but the problem is that I cant align the band with arm in Y axis, because of that there are some small tremors in the band, how can I define exact point on the arm and align my mask with it?
    Appreciate any help in advance

    ^ Yep, Mylenium is right. There are two ways to do things - the easy way and the hard way. The easy way always involves thinking things through and establishing what you want before you shoot. Can you shoot with the band in place? If not, can you add tracking markers to the arm to facilitate adding the band later?
    The hard way occurs when you have no choice and the work has to be done after the shoot. And Mylenium is dead right - before computers, EVERYTHING was done by hand, manually checking frame by frame until animations were correct. If your footage does not have the adequate preparation or detail for a computer to track, and you're unable to reshoot, the only option is to animate manually, check, fix, re-check, fix etc.
    The Motion Tracking Workflow section of the manual is an excellent introduction:

  • Maintaining Alignment/Distribution of Objects During Browser Scaling

    Hello All,
    I have been searching the forum for about two hours trying to
    find the right code.
    Basically, I want to have a site where the background scales
    to the browser window proportionately and the buttons re-align
    themselves around the perimeter. The content will be centered in
    the middle of the browser.
    I found the perfect piece of code for the background scaling.
    What I want to have is a minimum flash size, say 500px. If
    the browser window is scaled smaller then 500px, scroll bars
    appear. There will be buttons along the top, bottom, and sides of
    the stage. When the browser window is enlarged, the stage expands
    with the buttons staying the same size and distribution between
    each button on the stage is consistent. (more space between the
    buttons when stage is expanded.) Also, the buttons will stay
    position to the top, bottom, and sides of the browser.
    I tried mixing other code from the forum with this scale code
    below with bad results.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    Jessy

    this works:
    you can view it here http://cybermountainwebservices.com/fullBrowser/FullBrowserAS3.html
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    var bmp:Tile = new Tile(35, 35);
    var tile:BitmapData = new BitmapData(35, 35);
    tile.draw(bmp);
    shelter.x = stage.stageWidth /2;
    shelter.y = stage.stageHeight /2;
    function fillBG(evt:Event = null):void {
      graphics.beginBitmapFill(tile);
      graphics.moveTo(0, 0);
      graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, 0);
      graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
      graphics.lineTo(0, stage.stageHeight);
      graphics.lineTo(0, 0);
      graphics.endFill();
    shelter.x = stage.stageWidth /2;
    shelter.y = stage.stageHeight /2;
    fillBG();
    stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, fillBG);
    in  this case the fill is with a 35pxl x 35pxl gif file but you could just as easily use a color the item called shelter is the name of the jpg in the center.
    when you do this be sure in your publish settings to set dimension to percent 100 x 100  if you cont want a border or scrollbars around the outside be sure to set this css rule in your html   body {margin:0; padding:0; overflow:auto}

  • Track student learning and alignment against learning objectives

    Is there a way to tag slides and assessment items in Captivate with learning objectives to be able to run some kind of report on how learners did on specific learning objectives?

    Thank you for your quick reply, Seth. Do you know if it's possible to code different objects with the same learning objective? I assume every object needs a unique name. I would like to be able to associate all the instruction and assessments that relate to a specific learning objective with that objective code. Then, see if learners who watched the videos or completed the practice activities did better on the assessments, in addition to tracking student performance and mastery for specific learning objecitves. So, for example, I would want to see all the objects related to LO 2.14 and learner interactions.
    Are you saying that I can facilitate that with Captivate, but then we would have to do some back-end customization on the LMS to make that data usable?

  • Problems selecting object to align to

    I'd love to understand how Illustrator decides which object is the key object when using the "Align to Key Object" function. For me, it decides on the wrong object an uncanny percentage of the time. You'd think it would do as well as random chance, but no.
    I understand that when it chooses the wrong object to align to, I have to then select the object I want but sometimes it just won't highlight the preferred object. Why? Ideas for how to control the process?
    (FreeHand had the common sense to have an easily understandable sequence when centering; it aligned on the object that was larger in the alignment axis. Easy.)
    Thanks,
    Dave

    dave, your input is confusing, first you said that Illustrator aligns to a wrong (not the key) object, then you said that you are not able to select a key object. Please, clarify

  • CS2 - Aligning Objects question

    OK..I want to align one object to another without the second object moving out of position.
    In CS, I swear I clicked on Object 1 (the one I want to align to the second object) and then added Object 2 as a selection......then held down the shift or control key and clicked again on Object 2 to define that object as the one that WON'T move......
    then clicked on a vertical alignment button and Object 1 centered itself to object 2.
    Anyway, I tried this using various methods in CS2 and in each case - - both objects move when centered together....
    What's up with that? Did Adobe change the alignment method yet again?
    How can I keep Object 2 "in position?"
    Thanks.

    Tom,
    Nothing has changed about the alignment method, exactly. However, it has
    never been necessary to hold down the Shift or Control (or Alt) key when reclicking on the selected object that you want to remain in place. In fact, holding down the Shift key will
    deselect any selected object you click on, so holding down the Shift key always disabled the key object feature. Try it in 9 or 10 or CS and you will see.
    What did change in CS2 was that holding down the Ctrl/Cmd key while you already have one of the selection tools active temporarily toggles to the other selection tool. And it has always been the case that the Align palette listens only to clicks from the regular black arrow tool, not to clicks from the Direct Select tool. So what I suspect is happening is that you were starting from the regular black arrow tool, and habitually holding down the Ctrl key when you reclicked on the selected key object, even though the modifier was ignored. Now that the Ctrl key toggles to the other selection tool (in your case the Direct Select tool), you no longer have the correct tool selected when you reclick.
    If you are working from the regular black arrow tool, all you have to do is stop using
    any modifier keys. Which would have worked in earlier versions too.
    Since I habitually work with my main tool being the Direct Select tool, and practically never use the black arrow tool, I actually appreciated the toggle in CS2, since it freed me from having to switch to the black arrow tool in order to set a key object. That is, if you do work with your main selection tool being the Direct Select tool (which generally speaking is a more efficient way to work), you can now set up alignments from that tool, by holding down the Ctrl key to temporarily get the black Select tool, whereas in earlier versions you had to change your tool using a and then change it back using v.

  • Objects no longer auto-aligning with each other

    Hi there,
    I'm new to Adobe Illustrator CS4 and desperately need expertise. I think the settings got messed with, because now whenever I move an object, it no longer tries to "auto align" with nearby objects or their borders. I don't know what this feature is called, but it's when a smaller circle will kind of "snap" to the center of a larger circle, or I believe it will also show when their boundaries are tangent.
    Apologies for my noobishness, but how do I turn feature this back on? I find the program very hard to use without it.
    Many blessings for your generous explanation and kindness.

    In the View menu: Smart Guides, Snap to Point. You might have hit a keyboard shortcut by accident.
