All of my iMovie projects disappeared after loading Mavericks.  The updated version of iMovie shows no files and cannot find any files to Import.  My machine, a beefed up Mac Mini, has slowed to a crawl.  Suggestions?

My Mac Mini takes forever to load programs now.  After loading Mavericks it seems like I am back in PC World again!!  My biggest concern is ALL of my iMovie projects seem to have vanished.  I do not have sound on some web sites like YouTube.  I lost the option to mirror from the Mac to the TV but I was able to solve that.  Any suggestions on recovery of files?  I do not use TimeMachine and did not back up anything before the Mavericks installation.  I know...that's bad.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

    Hi,
FieldPoint Explorer is no longer used to configure FieldPoint systems. However, I do not think that the configuring your system in FieldPoint Explorer is causing the error.
FieldPoint systems are now setup in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  Information on setting up FieldPoint systems in MAX can be found in the MAX help under: Installed Products>> FieldPoint. Also, I recommend upgrading to the latest FieldPoint driver and version of MAX.  The FieldPoint VI's will be slightly different when you upgrade, so there is a good chance that this will eliminate the error.

.dmg.part is not a complete file..  It usually indicates that the entire file has not been downloaded yet.  Are you sure you downloaded the entire file?   (i recommend updating itunes through  > Software Update

  • Mac Pro has slowed to a crawl - Please Help Me!

    Hello,
For some time now my Wireless or Wired Internet connection using my Mac Pro has slowed to almost nothing. For example, This page took 5 mins to load and now Internet use has become unusable.
I feel its my Mac Pro because all other Apple Computer run very fast wirelessly. I have (2) New iMac's (1) Apple TV and (1) Apple iPhone. All stream and surf the Internet blazingly fast.
My Mac Pro is constantly being redirected to other sites (mostly **** related) and a huge amount of Pop ups (even though pop ads are disabled in Safari). All Internet browsers perform the same on my Mac Pro or ANYTHING Internet related including WoW, Software updates or even iTunes Music Down loads.
I really feel that in some way (which is shocking) I am infected with "something" that is making my computer crawl on the Internet. Redirection of websites is just now very aggravating.
I am looking at the (2) Original Disks that came inside the Mac Pro Box. I'm seriously considering wiping my system clean and starting from scratch.
I currently hold NOTHING on my Factory 320GB HD other than programs.
I have installed (2) 1TB drives and created a RAID slice thus creating a single HD icon on my desktop that reads 1.8TB. Thats is where all my Music, Photos, and Movies reside.
    My question is....
When I wipe my system will that RAID be broken? Will I lose everything on those 2 drives or will using the restore CD's leave all that information in tact?
Please let me know before I proceed.
    Thank you for your time.
    John

Your RAID won't be touched. But back it up today if you haven't yet!
I use Firefox for security with noscript and some other filters, but I also hardened the router firewall to manually block services, ports and add rules - both incoming and outgoing.
You might want to look at LittleSnitch or NetBarrier and do some logging.
I've seen/heard where older routers and modems were fine, but not with Mac Pro or with Intel Macs in general and needed to be replaced or firmware updated. Problems with the latest updates for Airport have been seen by some, and worth checking into - on forums, news sites or hit google.
And of course check what processes are getting loaded and run; manually delete caches, history, metadata, even the bookmarks cache.
    ~/Library/Caches/Metadata
There are issues with fake Flash updates; normal sites (like CNN) suffering from SQL-injection. Best to run with javascript off for now.
Might want to look into ClamXav and other malware protection. But I would switch and see how Firefox and Opera behave. And turn off java, script, and plug-ins while you consider your options and try to find out why.

  • HT203322 Still having issues with installing Yosemite after deleting "Backups.backupdb" on the internal hard drive.  I have restarted multiple times and cannot find any other back up files, yet I still receive the same error message during installation.

I am using a 2011 iMac on 10.6.8. I recently downloaded the Yosemite upgrade and during the installation process ran into the "this disk is used for time machine backups". I ejected the external drive I use for time machine backups and turned off time machine in the application. I then followed the instructions of the help article (OS X: Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups - Apple Support) by moving the folder "Backups.backupdb" that I was able to find on my internal hard drive to the trash. I have restarted several times after completing this process. I am still running into the same error during the installation process. I have searched the hard drive for any other backups and I cannot find any. I searched the hard drive using the command cmd-shift-g and searched for “backups.backupdb” and was unable to find any folders or files. Any other suggestions?

I have resolved the problem - I did not actually delete the "backups.backupdb" folder, I only deleted the contents of the folder.  I must have only searched on the user account for the folder after I thought I had deleted it.  Thank you for the assistance everyone and I apologize for the inconvenience!

  • After loading Mavericks, I can't see/open attached pdf files

after loading OS X Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I can't see/open attached pdf files. I've checked my Security Preferences in Safari and Enable Java Script and Allow Plug-Ins are both selected. Any ideas as to what I need to do???

I checked as you noted above - this is what comes up
Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.7
so I assume (?) that it is installed.
I just went into my hydro bill and tried to open the pdf version and, low and behold, it opened.  So somewhere in between when I reinstalled it yesterday (after your suggestion) and just now, it is working!!!
So thank-you for your help!!.  Cheers.

  • Mini has slowed to a crawl

when i got my mac mini last christmas, i was delighted at how it whizzed through tasks compared with my old powerbook.
however since upgrading to snow leopard, i am seeing the BBBOD constantly. opening programs, web-based emails, loading websites, working on photos in iphoto...it's all so slow, it's driving me nuts.
it feels like it just about everything in slo-mo.
i have check the page in/page out ratio and although about 15 minutes ago the page ins was a fraction of the page outs, right now the page ins are more than double the page outs 793 MB vs.372 MB
is there anything else i need to check to see what may be causing this?
    thanx.

As BGreg has explained, it's the PageOuts to Ins ratio that we look at, which in your case was over 50%, when it should be about 10%, or preferably zero.
How much RAM do you have in your Mini? (Apple Menu > About this Mac, SDRAM)
How much free "available" space on the startup hard drive? (Click once on Macintosh HD icon in Finder, then File > Get Info)
Before you upgraded to Snow Leopard, did you check your programs for Snow Leopard compatibility? There are several lists. Even though I carefully updated everything I could, I found that the ink-level monitoring program for my Epson printer was causing an error to be written to the Console log (Utilities > Console) every ten seconds. This adds up over time! Something like that could be happening to you.
And if you only have 512 Meg of RAM or if your hard drive is almost full (try to keep 10% free space), either of those could be your problem, too.
But the Outs/Ins ratio shows that your Virtual Memory system is working too hard, which is due to too much program load for your real RAM, and/or possibly not enough space on your hard drive.

  • Mac Mini has slowed since upgrading to Yosemite

Take a look at this article: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/five-tips-to-speed-up-your-mac/
    Try these steps:
    - Shut down your Mac
    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button
    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key
    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign
    - Once you see Desktop, start a Disc Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)
    - Click on Verify Disc and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk
    - After this, click on Verify Disc Permissions and then on Repair Disc Permissions
    - After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds
    Hope this helps!

  • After I download the new version of firefox, it flashes that it cannot finish because I do not have privilages to certain things in the new version. Can you explain this?

I get all through the downloading process and move it to my applications. It then ask me if I want to replace the old version with the new one. When I click on replace, a new window comes up with the fact that my computer does have privileges for some of the operations so I cannot complete the process. What really gets me though, is that it still pops up saying I need to download the new version. I do not know what to do.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • All my contacts names have disappeared after upgrading to the lastest IOS. How do I restore this? I can't find people names etc. I run a business and this is not what I expect every time a new ios or something from apple turns up.

I've had issues before with upgrades and now I was skeptical of doing the latest upgrade.
10.7.1..... **** I've got the  latest ios and it's messed my contacts up. Sticking all emails and removing some business contacts numbers so it's been a night mare to run for the last week or so. I don't even see which is important calls or not I just get "no number."
Anyone know a work around or must I wait for the next "upgrade/fix"?
    Andrew

    1.  Purchase your new hard drive and an external enclosure.
    2.  Put your new hard drive in the external enclosure.
    3.  Connect the external hard drive to your mac (FW or USB).
    4.  Use Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) to clone your internal drive to the external drive.
    5.  Take the new hard drive out of the external enclosure.
    5.  Open your computer, pull the hard drive out of your Mac.
    6.  Put the new hard drive into your mac.  Close it up.  Turn it on.  It should boot right up.
    7.  Put your smaller drive in the external enclosure and use it for backup, extra storage or whatever.

  • I5-2520M 2.5 GHz Mac mini has slowed dramatically

It was fine when I bought it last December and stayed fine after installing Windows 7 on its own partition with Bootcamp.
Then it started gong to **** and upgrading to Mountain Lion didn't help.
Both Mac and Windows are painfully slow on the internet, barely adequate running Photoshop
I took the extreme step of doing a clean install of Windows 7, no Mac, but that didn't help.
    8MB Crucial RAM
I'm about ready ro eBay it

So, right now, you have Mountain Lion, and Windows 7 installed, right?
That Crucial RAM should be 1333Mhz DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-10600).
Have you run Disk Utility > First Aid on your OS X boot drive to verify/fix permissions?
Have you reset the NVRAM? Boot with Command+Option+P+R held down for three chimes, then let it boot.
Have you shutdown the mini, booted and pressed and held the shift key to the grey cloth login window? This will rebuild some things that may improve your performance. Then reboot.
The Broadcom Ethernet chip in the mini is no slouch. Have you powered down your modem and router, waited 30 seconds, then applied power in reverse order. Are you using Cat5e or better cabling?
Photoshop may be hungrier for more than the 256MB on that discrete graphics card.
Has any of the above improved your mini performance?

  • Why do I get the message "The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions." after having installed the updated version of Firefox, and the program won't start?

I have tried to install the updated version several times, and each time I get the same message. I have never experienced this kind of a problem with Mozilla before.
I have a Windows 7 system and a new computer, so I suppose it's not a computer bug.

    Here is a pic.
