All Photos Lost in iPhoto6!!

I have opened iPhoto (I am running V6) and am horrified to find that the Library is completely empty - all folders have disappeared also. There are some phots still on the Mac (in the Documents folder). Help!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Go to your Pictures Folder and see if there is a folder there called the
iPhoto Library Folder
Your photos should be inside that. Assuming they are:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • All photos lost from Event browser and unable import photos

I did something, perhaps while solving a non-responding problem, which caused all photos to disappear from Event Browser, but not from Timeline. When I try to import photos I get "formatting files for import" but nothing is imported.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks Russ. When I read the answer to a different question, I realized, although the photos were no longer visible in the Event Browser, FCPX saw them as duplicates and wouldn't import. I opened a supplementary Event and was able to import them there.

Yes, I did intend to include my email address. Is that a problem?

  • All photos lost

I would like to add a photo to my library from desktop using drag and drop, however when importing, iPhoto told me that it need to rebuild the thumbnail again. Unluckily, when importing/rebuilding, iPhoto crashed. After restarting, I can see no photo in my library. It's lucky that the originals and the modified photos are still there in the folder, but it's really troublesome to put all things into it again.
Can anyone help? I already tried: Holding Option key when starting iPhoto to re-choose the file library location...which was a failure atempt.

This sound slike a case of database corruption, the crash happened as the app was writing to the database.
You could try repair the db with iPhoto Library Manager, which has more robust tools for the job. http://homepage.mac.com/bwebster/iphotolibrarymanager.html
If that doesn't work then I'm afraid it's time for the Back Up.

You can restore from your iTune or iCloud backup if you have one.

  • New photo app for mac - all photos lost?

I saw there were updates for my mac at the app store so without looking just did the update.  Took forever and now I find that I photo has gone and I have a new Photos app.  I have been trying to open it and for the last hour it just says "preparing library 1% complete".  It is not progressing and I can't shut it.  Nothing is happening and I am really worried that all my hundreds of very precious photos have disappeared.
Can anyone give me some reassurance on this.

Your photos are likely fine, however are you saying your updated your computer and do not back it up regularly? If so then you photo library is not only likely fine it also has a backup. If you have not been backing up, you should begin doing this regularly. Sooner or later without a backup plan you will lose precious data. Apple has included Time Machine in OS X for about 7 years so there is absolutely no reason to not be backing up.
So take a deep breath, relax and let Photo's do it's thing and then learn how to use the app.
Finally, giving idle threats to Apple serves no value. I have asked the moderator to remove that portion of your post as it is off topic and violates the Terms of Use you agreed to.

  • IPhoto '11 All Photos Lost

    Hello,
First lets start off by me telling you there is no back up ;( and I learned my lesson.
It all started( a month ago) when I opened up the explorer and went to "All Images" and saw thousands of photos in there. Being new to Apple after switching from Windows based for years I thought these were duplicate images stored on the computer(******** me). So I selected roughly 10,000 images and sent them all to the Trash. After realizing this was a huge mistake I tried to mass select all of them and select "put back" but some of the images could not be put back, for whatever reason I do not know. So I had to select each photo individually and select put back. There were many duplicate images from the "faces", "places", and other categorized options in iPhoto.
After getting all of the 10,000 photos that I put in the trash, "put back", I went through iPhoto and started checking my images. Many of them were there, but many of the thumbnails would show the picture but when I double clicked it a screen with a triangle with an exclamation point in it would display.
So I tried to google it to find out what the problem was and many forums with previously asked questions from other people would be answered by depressing the option key + command key while opening iPhoto and repairing/rebuilding the library. So, I did this.
Then iPhoto stuck on the same screen for a very long time, I let it sit there for about 16 hours before I had to close it for class. Then when I reopened iPhoto, every thing was gone. It looked like the very first day I got my MacbookPro and and iPhoto hadn't been used yet.
I went to the explorer, clicked on my user profile, went to pictures, and opened up iPhoto but no pictures were there either.
How can I get my photo library back? Thanks for any help in advance.
It is iPhoto '11 version 9.1.5(615).

Can you tell if the photos are still on your hard drive?  Open your iPhoto Library with the finder:
and look inside the Originals folder and its subfolders to see if your original files are there.  If so I think your best bet would be to do the following:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the Desktop.
    2. Open the library package with the Finder like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

Lost all photos on my iPhoto and get the ERROR WRITING TO DISK when trying to reload from Time Machine. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPHOTO LIBRARY  . Looking for solution.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • Lost all photos and albums in iPhoto version 9.4.3

Hi all, I'm currently using iPhoto version 9.4.3.
Didn't do anything out of the norm but lost all my imported photos from my iPhone that I've painstakingly put into albums.
Only thing I did differently was shutting down my laptop cos I was catching a plane. After restarting my laptop and iPhoto, I realised all photos and albums were gone.
Read solutions abt rebuilding libraries but didn't work.
HELP! Not sure what to do next, so anything suggestions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Hi, I just updated my mac from version10.6 to 10.9.3 os mavericks. i went to open iPhoto and it says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade." does this mean I have lost all photos i had in there? It does not give me a choice, it just says quit or upgrade? p.s. i didn't realise ther was  a way to back up my computer beforehand, which i am guessing this is time machine?

    1. No, you haven't.
    2. Back up the iPhoto library(this can be done through Time Machine or by dragging it to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended) and then click Upgrade.
    3. Aside from Time Machine and drag-copying items from your home folder, programs such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, and SuperDuper can make backups.

My dad & I both have iPhone 5s. He no longer uses his & my screen is cracked. If I switch our SIM cards, what data will be lost? It is important for me to save/transfer all photos, video, & *especially* all text messages. When the SIM cards are swapped between phones, will any of these things be lost/deleted?

Thank you! I would prefer not to wipe his phone. My cracked screen iPhone still works, so I would ideally like to put his SIM card in my phone for occasional use. As mentioned, he is not using his iPhone anymore for phone calls, but would like to maintain access to photos, video, and all texts. As I use an iPhone for calls, trading the cracked screen is ideal. If I am able to switch them without losing data, I will, but am afraid to do so if there is a chance that any data will be erased. (I'm not sure if the photos, video, and -namely- texts are saved to the actual SIM card. Can text messages be backed up?
iPhone do not store anything on the sim.
Photos should be saved on computer like any other digital camera.
You can restore the backup for your dad as well as for yourself while swapping phones.

  • Have been lost all photos in tim installation iOS4

    Help me, please!!!
    I have IPhone 3G with software 3.0.
I downloaded iOS 4 04 July 2010. And after reboot (installation) all photos in Camera Roll and Albums have been lost (are erased)!!! Why it happens? How can I return all my Photos???

I, too, lost many, many (~300) photos off of the Camera Roll when I upgraded to 4.0. None of the photos from the "folders" that I sync from my laptop were lost so this seems to be a problem with the Camera Roll only. Help!

  • I wanted to syncing my itunes to my ipad 2 (ios 4.3.3) and update to ios 5. but i did not have back up. So i lost all photos   other files. Pls help...Txs

    Hello,
I wanted to syncing itunes to my ipad2 in order to upgrade ios from 4.3.3 to 5 but lost all photos + all other files...
    txs for your help:)

Scroll down and see the "Update Your Device Using iTunes" section here:
    HT4623
There is no "update icon" in iOS versions earlier than iOS 5.
The update is very large (over 1.2 gigabytes).  You need a good internet connection to download it to your computer.  Maybe you'll need to take a trip to a city to get a good enough connection.

  • Help!!! please I lost my all photos...

    Hi guys.
    Today I updated iTunes
then I connected my wife iPhone 4s to the MBP.
I was wanted to download all photos and movies of our baby girl to the computer.
iTunes asked me to connect this phone as:
    1) New phone
    or
    2) restore the phone as: "my second iphone 3gs" (which I also own)
I choose  2nd option. ( and as I know now it was the wrong option)
After that I lost all my photos, movie and contacts are merged
My wife's iPhone has never been connected to the iCloud.
THERE IS ANY EVEN SMALL HOPE TO RESTORE MY WIFE'S PHONE???

The only way to restore it is if you have a backup of your phone or if you've been importing those pics to your computer you can sync it back using itunes.
If not then those pics are gone, sorry.
