i have 2 questions
1. In "Expert one-on-one Oracle", Tom said, there is no deference between ASC and DESC index in case of one column because Oracle can just read in reverse order. but my test made me confused. why Oracle did "full table scan" only in ASC index???
2. using "set autot trace" command. i believed the the "Rows" column mean the rows that Oracle access. Can you explain why the rows are 29(DESC) and 11766(ASC) in spite of the result is 11971. what is the exact meaning of "Rows" column in execution planI think what you're seeing is a bug in the optimizer. If you had printed up the predicate section of the execution plan, this would be more obvious. I have the query:
select *
from t1
where d1 between to_date('01-jan-2001')
and to_date('31-dec-2003')
;This returns one row per day for 3 years, and when a normal index is created on it, the optimizer calculates the correct cardinality and uses a sensible set of predicates. But when I use a descending index, this is what I get:
Execution Plan
Plan hash value: 1429545322
| Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost |
| 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 1097 | 21940 | 2 |
| 1 | TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID| T1 | 1097 | 21940 | 2 |
|* 2 | INDEX RANGE SCAN | T1_I1 | 5 | | 2 |
Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
2 - access(SYS_OP_DESCEND("D1")>=HEXTORAW('8798F3E0FEF8FEFAFF') AND
SYS_OP_DESCEND("D1")<=HEXTORAW('879AFEF8FEF8FEFAFF') )
filter(SYS_OP_UNDESCEND(SYS_OP_DESCEND("D1"))>=TO_DATE('2001-01-0
1 00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss') AND
SYS_OP_UNDESCEND(SYS_OP_DESCEND("D1"))<=TO_DATE('2003-12-31 00:00:00',
'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))Note the introduction of the strange sys_op_descend() function - which is related to the descending index implemention, and the extra FILTER predicates which introduce a significant extra selectivity effect. The optimizer is double-counting on selectivity effects, and introducing extra factors of 1% and 5% (I haven't checked exact details) due to the functions applied to columns and the range-based predicates.

Hi all
I did Set Linesize 1000. Then I desc table. I t is showing me only name column of desc command. Then I did formatting of name column
column name format a20
even then it does not show me the rest of two columns(null and datatype) why???it is a oracle8 feature, describe is now capable of displaying nested tables with increments!
ok, you have two solutions:
1) do not use "set linesize 1000"
2) do not use "describe"
not happy?
you could write a script desc.sql with "set lin 80; desc &1; set lin 1000" and then use "@desc yourtab" to have a nicer output

Asset report with vendor number and vendor desc wise
Hi Gurus
The requirement is to generate asset reports with the below fields:
Asset class, Asset number & desc, vendor number & desc
Suppose say all asset balances should be reported by vendor name and desc.
I couldn't get the right results using an existing or a custom sort version. Do not want to go with a custom report or a SAP query.
Any pointers in this regard would be helpful.
Thanks
SekharHi,
You can use table ANLA.
Populate the asset field then go to settings tab and choose fields.
Check the following fields given below:
BUKRS
ANLN1
ANLKL
LIFNR
TXT50
then execute.
hope it helps.

How do i connect my macbook pro to another screen (a fujitsu siemens) i got the cable for it but i want to know the settings so i transfer desc to the fujitsu screen.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have the cable, just connect it to both and the desktop will show up on the external display. Then, you can select different modes, changing arrangement in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement, or using shortcuts > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5019 -
I am trying to find a way to run DESC (or similar) on every table belonging to a certain user. So far I have had no luck finding a way of doing this, other than brute force.
The problem with brute forcing it is that the user has ~250 tables that I would need to run this on. I was hoping to find a script or a query that would let me do this and output it to a file.
Any thoughts?
JedMaybe the objects belong to another schema. Try the
following:
SELECT table_name,
column_name,
data_type,
data_length,
data_precision,
nullable
all_tab_columns
WHERE owner = 'YOUR_OTHER_SCHEMA'
/code]
of course replace YOUR_OTHERS_SCHEMA with the actual
schema name.This finally worked for me, thank you so much. The Owner part at the bottom was the key. I just need to clever with the linespacing and grouping now.
Thanks again so much. -
Dg4odbc 11.2 to mysql desc table issue, query return only one record
<h2>Hi,
I have the following set up:
11g R2 RAC oracle database, dg4odbc 11.2, UnixODBC 2.3 driver manager, MySQL ODBC 5.1.7 Driver on 64 bit Suse SLES 11 server.
Remote database MySQL version 5.0.67 running on 32 bit linux server.
I am having the following Issues:
1. When desc table, sometimes only the first field is shown:
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
Some other times I am able to see the correct table definition:
SQL> desc "sub_index"@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
sess_id NUMBER(10)
sess_yr NUMBER(10)
subject_name VARCHAR2(255)
SQL> desc sub_index@mybilltracker;
Name Null? Type
subject_id NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
2. Select count(*) returns the total number of rows correctly. Select * or Select "field name" from table returns only one row:
SQL> select count(*) from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker;
COUNT(*)
2
SQL> select "user_id", "email" from "mbt_user"@mybilltracker; _(always return only one record!)_
user_id email
1 [email protected]
Has anybody seen this? Can somebody help me pinpoint the problem? Thank you!

Printing of Material desc on change of material no in the ADOBE form
Hi Experts,
I want to print material description on change of material no. if there is 4 line item in same matnr then it will show only one desc for
this. And on change of matnr it will change and total will print over there. for the 2nd MATNR desc will change and total will also print there for 2nd material no. Plz do suggest hw can i do this?
Thanx in Advance.
regards.
sunilHi Sunil,
You can achive that by using the nested table concepts. Say you have two internal tables. One having all the line items data and the other the Description and totals for different material. Now you can loop the 2nd internal table inside the first one with where clause. In the context of the Form, add the 2nd internal table inside the 1st one and then in form use nested subforms.
I hope you have got the idea how to do it.

SC with Limit line items and Desc requirements _Incorrect Overall Limit
Hi,
When i create SC ,combining both limit items and non-catalog items (desc requirement), i am getting my PR created.
However, i observed that for Limit lines in PurReq, the expected value & Overall limit amounts are not being transferred correctly.
Overall limit is also showing as equal to expected value. This is happening only when i combine limit and full text lines together in a sc. It seems like a bug. We are on SRM 55 and patch 11.
Appreciate any inputs.
Thanks
KrishHi Karthik,
Thanks for your reply. I already checked these notes and they are not relevant for my issue.
My issue is like this. SC has got 4 lines and out of them 2 are Limits and 2 of them are describe req's lines.
for one of Limit line, overall limit is 1000$ and expected value is $500.
where as in the Purreq, i am getting both overall limit and expected value as $500 itself. basically overall limit is overwritten with expected value.
I found very old note something simillar to this issue: 304382.. its the otherway happening in my case.
Thanks

How to display Columns in Alphabatical order when using DESC command
Hello
A table column is inserted not in alphabetic order during the table creation definition.
So while describing the table definition (e.g. desc emp)
it will not show in the same order as we are written during the table creation.
Question: is there any utility/command/query which will display the columns in alphabatical order while describing it.
Regards
Nikhil Waniselect column_name from user_tab_columns
order by column_name;
should do it.

Setting Dynamic values to the payload-name / Content Desc
Hi All,
I am using a PayloadZIp module and i am trying to zip the file and retain the filename.
For this i have done the following things. I have used PayloadZIp in the Sender channel. In the recv channel used the DynamicConfigurationBean and wrote the value as a part of message_interface and then using variable substitution i have configured made the filename as the sender name.zip
for eg if the file zipped at the sender side is name1.txt the recv channel would be name1.txt.zip where the variable substituiton would have the value name1.txt
but the problem is that the value of the file inside the zip is not name1,txt . I would like it to be name1.txt
I have used the messageTransformBean and stuff tried setting the ContentTypes Desc all of them take constant values. i am not able to set the real filename as the filename for the attachment.
Can anyone share their views on this and let meknow hw i can achieve this
Rgds
adityaHi

If you are trying to zip a file, then why are you using the PayloadZipbean on the Sender CC, you should use the module on the Receiver CC.

Desc not working in SQL Developer Version 1.1.3 Build 27.69
Hi All,
I am using Oracle SQL Developer Version 1.1.3 Build 27.69
select count(*) from abccount(*)
100
using desc / describe table name gives error
desc abcERROR:
ERROR: object abc does not exist
1 rows selected
I am able to perform select on the table but not desc/describe. I tried suffixing with schema name , still the same error persists.
Kindly provide a workaround
TnxWell 1.1.3 is quite old.
The best thing to do IMHO is to update to the latest version, it will also enable a load of new features and fixes.

Decode in order by clause with desc
I want to user order by clause with decode + desc order.
somthing like
ORDER BY DECODE ('SALE', e.sale, 'SALE DESC' ????)
????-> How to use desc order with decode
Thanks in advanceI thought smart people in this OTN community will understand that I am trying to order by the thisdate column that is timestamp datatype:). My apologize for not being that specific.
The query I gave is a simple version of the stored procedure I am using. The point is I need to order by - depending on one of the parameters that is passed to the procedure. In simplest decode statements, its something like
order by decode(p_in_var,'ABC','thisdate asc','DEF','thisdate desc',thisdate asc)
Here p_in_var is varchar input parameter to the stored procedure.
Please let me know if there is any more information needed.
Thx!
