Allow unix account user to execute sqlplus in 10g

we have created a user with default groups and we required allow him to execute sqlplus command but it is giving errors. ( on same system we have db and oracle account). we do not want him to login into sysdba but as normal user so that he could enter sqlplus user/passwd@dbname. what should be done when a new unix account is created and how allow him to execute sqlplus command?
OS: openSUSE 11.1 - 32 bi
DB : 10.2.0.1.0 - 32 bit
do we need to install instant client ? to allow other than oracle user to access oracle db on same system?
please help me out. thanks in advance.

please help me out. thanks in advance.If this is on the same box as the db, you definately don't need to install any other client, as the full client was installed with the db. The client you are using has nothing to do with what permissions a particular user may or may not have, either at the OS or DB level.
You say it is giving errors, but you didn't think giving the acutal specific error message might be needed to help you diagnose the problem? My crystal ball is out for repair.

Did install oracle on solaris using the oracle account. the ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/app/oracle i.e found in the oracle home directory. And its primay and secondary groups are oinstall and dba respectively.
Now say another user admin wants to connect and use the database i.e by runinng sqlplus, ...

After connecting from oracle user, could start the db as oracle bash profile has been set to

Now, ai cant start the db either when connected as panic or oracle. But the pb is that when ai start the db as panic, when oracle connects using sqlplus, it says connected to an idle instance! Can any on explain??

I selected UK in order to purchase a UK release of Jamiroquia's single "Feels Just Like It Should (Timo Mass Remix)". If my credit card was signed up for Canada, and it should be valid around the world for international purchases, why won iTunes allow me to download it from the UK site and how can I be able to download from iTunes? I'd like to support the legal purchase of music and iTunes is hindering this process with some songs, especially UK and european verions of songs, or songs from this region, that I realy like. I changed the name of my imac to reflect it's new location, but inadvertently, when I saved the change, the system unchecked the "allow this account to administer the computer" so now I can't make any changes.... I tried to reinstall the OS, but it wants me to go online while installing and use my apple id, but this is not my iMAC, so I don't want to use my account. Also, I am working in a building that will not allow me network access until I authenticate, which can't be done unless I open the browser first. So I'm stuck at this point. I can't even restore a time machine backup that I have because it gives the error message that the system encountered an error. Any suggestions?

How to execute sqlplus command in bat file ?

I have a simple script file that looks like this:
"sqlplus admin/admin as sysdba
shutdown immediate"
But.. when i start this file.bat my system logs but do not make any script. Sqlplus just waiting for command, and when i write "exit" i logout from sqlplus, and then system execute next command, that is "shutdown immediate" but beyond sqlplus (so my base is still working). Is it at all possible to log on and execute commands from file.bat or some other way ?
I'm using oracle 11g, windows 7x64

Special permission on Db_datareader user for execute sp_helptext

Hi friends
I have a question. Is there a method that allow a user db_datareader execute the procedure sp_helptext?.
I tried the following with bad results:
1) I created a role in my database and i tried to assign the sys.sp_helptext procedure but appears the following message:
"Permissions on server scoped catalog views or system stored procedures or extended stored procedures can be granted only when the current database is master (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:4629)"
So, i created the role in the master and i assign the user. but it didn't work in the execution.
2) in a blog i found that was possible using this script:
grant VIEW DEFINITION on OBJECT::sys.sp_helptext to RL_Ejecutor
The "RL_Ejecutor" is a role that i created but it didn't work.
Please help me with this

db_datareader is a fixeddatabase role. That means you cannot change the permissions db_datareader has.
To allow a user to execute succesfully sp_help text over an object (a view, stored procedure or function) the user must have at least view definition permission on that object, not on sp_help_text stored procedure.
The following statement grants view definition permission to TestUser (a user in the database)
GRANT VIEW DEFINITION TO TestUser
TestUser now can execute successfully sp_help on any object of the current database.
If you want to allow TestUser to view the definition of an specific object you execute the following statement:
GRANT VIEW DEFINITION ON dbo.YourStoredProcedure TO TestUser
The same is valid for a user defined database role, just replace TestUser with the name of your database role.

How to add domain account manager to executable?

Hi All,
LabVIEW 8.6.1 + DSC 8.6.1
I have created local domain and some test users by using domain account manager. I also set user access levels to frontpanel indicators and controls. After that I build an .exe from my application.
When I install or move this application to other computer how I can also transfer my domain configuration to that second computer. It is assumed that these computers cannot be in same network..Can I someway add domain account manager to executable or should I install manager manually that second computer. I can't install whole labview that second computer...

Database : Oracle 10g release 2
Operating System : HP - UX
Now when I am trying to execute sqlplus from one of the application server with the user asbadm , then I am getting the error as shown below

i don't understand why you want that, but the only thing you have to do is to include the oracle library path to the environment of <sid>adm.
It depends on the shell, that you are using:
> export SHLIB_PATH=$SHLIB_PATH:/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib
> setenv SHLIB_PATH=$SHLIB_PATH:/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib
or
> export LIBPATH =$LIBPATH :/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib
> setenv LIBPATH =$LIBPATH :/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib
I am not sure on HP-UX which environment variable is used, but you can check it with:
> env | grep -i lib
This shows you the variable which you have to extent with "/oracle/<SID>/102_64/lib".
If your <SID>adm user is in the correct os groups (dba) - a "sqlplus / as sysdba" should also work.

Account User Control

How do I stop the 'Account User Control' box showing before opening any PDF file with Reader X1 on Windows 8. It did not happen when installed on Windows XP

Its a standard 'User Account Control' box, saying do you want to allow programme to make changes to computer, There is a 'shield' on the desktop Adobe Reader shortcut icon. I have tried completely uninstalling programme twice, but each fresh installation ends up the same. ie whenever I open a PDF, I have to OK the notification first.

How do I only allow logged in users to see Wiki?

I have set up a server and the website, but it only works if you forward the urls, in the DNS machine records, to the public ip address of my of my router. I only want to allow logged in users to be able to click on a wiki homepage link to see it. Also, typing in the internal ip address of a device on my network doesn't get me to my server unless I allow the Internet to see the wiki.
So I would like to...
1. Make users log in to be able to see anything, like people, profiles, and wikis.
2. Allow intranet access to server with host names and server ip address
3. Allow logged in VPN users to see the site (I'm guessing this would go along with number 2)
4. If I need to add a custom site, how would I add the site so it would pop up when the URL is typed in and have a login window to be able to go the wiki site
5. I don't want to mess up Profile Manager either
I've tried many different things and can get one thing to work, but not the other.

There are way to many lines of code in these files that are different to go through one by one. I have put the files in google docs (server 2.2.1 mods).
There is a great program at the mac app store called CompareMerge you can go through the files line by line to see what is different.
Before doing anything I recommend coping all files that you are changing/deleting some where safe so if something goes wrong you can go back to the originals.
Once all files have been replaced/deleted you have to open the server app and stop/start wikis

How do I allow an end user to save form after they've filled it out? I understand this can be accomplished using the distribute function where you email the form to people. We don't want to do that. We want to put it on a website and allow them to access it, open it, fill it out, then save a copy to their hard drive (with the data they entered visible).
