Allowing only a list of mac addresses to connect to the internet?

Hi,
I'm setting up a solution, where access to wireless internet is granted only to a list of mac addresses. It seems MAB security is what I am after. However, before mac address is allowed internet access, I want a user to go through an external and controller-independable registration page.
Consider this flow:
Clientconnects to WLAN, since it's mac address is not allowed, the user is redirected to an external website (http://registration.com, aspx website). Here I ask the user to register an account. Using ip address from the request, I send a CLI command to the WLC controller and learn client's mac address from arp table. Here I need to run another CLI command to add the mac address to the mac database, and inform the user they can access the web.
Few struggles that I'm having now:
1) How to setup web MAB authentication, that, upon failure, redirects the user to an external website?
2) How can I add (white-list?) a mac address to enable it access to the internet?

It seems I should be able to do this, can anyone elaborate?
1) Layer-2 set to Mac filtering only
2) Upon success - user is granted access
3) Upon failure, falls back to Extrenal Web Auth, which redirects the user to my custom web page
4) Upon registering, I make a postback to the action_url
5) User is authenticated? Is there a way to reset authentication sequence at step 4? I don't really want to register the user. During step 4, I'm sending user's mac address back to WLC via SSH. Since mac address will be present on the WLC after step 4, I would like it to just grant access to the mac address, rather than register the user.

  • I have just purchased the osx upgrade to 10.7 lion butb my mac is not connected to the internet. I have an apple id but it seems that i need my mac to be connected to the net to downolad the up grade. can i save the upgrade to my windows pc and transfer?

As I Said..I just wondered if it was possible to upgrade my software without having to connect my mac to the net..I have never connected it as a precaution against any nasties. It seems that i have been sent a password protected PDf with  a link to the MAC APP Store..but you can only access the mac app store if you have a mac connected to the web. any ideas..?

    Hi,
if connecting that specific Mac to the web is an issue, what you will need, anyway, is another Mac computer with OS X 10.6.8 so you can start the Mac App Store in order to download the Lion installer.
On that second computer, you can copy the Lion installer on a USB stick or other storage solution, and then copy the installer on the Mac-you-cannot-connect-to-the-internet .
You could even burn a Lion install DVD from the installer. More info about this here

  • My MAC won't connect to the internet anymore. I have ran the Diagnostic check and other computers are able to connect but my MAC no longer will. Please help.

Please tell me what I need to do to fix this problem. It was working fine yesterday and now today that is not the case. Thank you.

I had the same issue! My 24"  2008 iMac was working perfectly. Yesterday I used my BootCamp partition and when I went back to my Mac OS I couldn't connect to the internet!
The computer looks like it's connected but it won't navigate at all! I tried to verify the network settings and when I tried to do that my System Preferences app hang-up. I had to Force quit it and reboot the computer couple of times to double check.
Then I run de Disk utility to verify the disk & permissions and the scan result was that the disk was not repairable, I had to make a timeMachine backup of my personal data and completely format my HD including the BOOTCAMP partition to reinstall MAC OS 10.6 and all the updates and everything and now Everything is working perfectly.
I first tried to only format my MAC OS partition and reinstall but there was another error that the insallation couldn't be completed. Then I completely erases all partitions and erased all the files and I was able to reinstall everything in a couple of hours.

  • Mac won't connect to the Internet after 10.8.5

    Hey,
So I updated my MacBook Pro earlier today to 10.8.5 and after the update I put it to sleep. I just got on and cannot connect to the Internet from my Mac. All my other devices can connect perfectly well. It says I am connected to my WiFi but when I go on my browser, no pages load. I've tried restarting my Mac and my router, none of which have worked.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • CS5 Mac Kuler - Not connected to the internet

    Hi,
I am having problems using Kuler on my Mac. I have CS5 master collection installed but Kuler just does not work. A colleague has the same suite installed and his Kuler works just fine! We have tried re-installing the suite but to no avail.
We have tried copying my installation on to his machine, as well as copying all preferences. But still it doesn't work!
We are completely stumped and require some assistance.
The machines does have internet access and I also have CS4 installed and Kuler works fine, it seems to be limited to CS5 and just on my machine.
Any ideas on how we can fix this?
    Regards,
    Rob
*MODERATOR COMMENT* The source of the problem seems to have been identified. See the post by employee Carey Burgess on February 2nd for details:

@luckynorth and anyone else still facing this problem:
I'd like to help you all get this fixed.
At present, I do not have any issues getting connected to Kuler via any Adobe CS5 application on Mac OS or Windows.
I did before, and it was because I had disabled Internet access to my Adobe applications. Just in case any of you had this same restriction, I posted the fix for this in my reply above.
Everyone, please check that you don't have online access disabled for CS5. In Windows, this is controlled by a registry entry; on Mac OS, it's controlled by a plist file. See this document for details:
    http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_cpsid_84665_en-us
After you have verified that the plist file doesn't exist or is set to a value of 1 on Mac OS, or the registry value is set to 1 on Windows, reboot your computer, and see what happens.
If it's still not working, then reply with the following details:
    - What specific operating system you are using.
For Mac OS, include the exact version, like 10.5.8; you can get this by going to Apple > About This Mac.
For Windows, I mean XP, Vista, or Windows 7, any service packs, and also 32-bit or 64-bit. You can get these details by going into System in the Control Panel.
    - How you connect to the Internet.
    Wired or wireless?
Either way, are you at home, or at work/school (or otherwise connected to some kind of larger network)?
    - Have you installed all updates for your CS5 applications?
Open a CS5 application, go to Help > Updates (or Help > Check for updates), let it check for updates, if any are found, install them, if none are found then note that.
We'll get to the bottom of this; we just need to find out what about your computer/configuration that isn't allowing it to connect properly.

  • Sometimes my mac mini wont connect to the internet

I have a 2008 mac mini that for the past two years has had this reoccuring problem. When I try to connect to the internet via my home wifi extreme system, i get an error saying connection timeout, which will not allow me to connect. I know its not a problem with the wifi system because the 3 other people using the system get access to wifi fine. Sometimes i can solve this problem with my computer by restarting it, but most of the times if I leave it alseep for a couple hours it also solves the problem, but like I said not always.
    Can anyone please help?

  • Mac can't connect to the Internet but iPad can

I'm having trouble getting my Mac to connect to the net.   Tried restarting both my modem and Apple router.   Also tried with wired and wireless connection.   No dice.   Anyone offer any suggestions.   Oh, I'm running the latest OSX -10.8.

I have been having problems with various computers not pulling DNS settings properly. The only way I can get them to reconnect to the Internet is by manually removing the DNS servers from the Network system preference. I am assuming you are using DHCP on your router.
Go to the System Preferences, then choose Network. Make sure the lock in the bottom right hand corner is unlocked. Select the interface you want to use, ie. Ethernet or wi-fi. Click the Advanced button. Select the DNS tab and make sure there aren't any manual entries in there. If there are, click on them and hit the minus button in the bottom left hand corner. Apply the changes and hopefully it comes right back.
I have had to continually redo this process on laptops, though. I haven't figured out how to make the change stay, I think it's some sort of corrupted preference or maybe permissions problem.
    Hope it helps...

  • HT1338 my mac is not connected to the internet. How can I update the software?

I want to update the software of my mac pro but it is not and cannot be connected to the internet. Is there some way to do this?

Sure, you can download the disc image (.dmg) and zipped (.zip) files onto your PC. Then transfer them to a FAT32 (MSDOS) formatted flash drive that you can then read and copy onto the Mac. Just do not attempt to open either type of file on the PC which can result in corrupting the files once copied onto the Mac.
Might I ask why you cannot connect the Mac Pro to your internet connection?

  • Messenger:mac says "not connected to the internet"

OK, so just today, I downloaded Microsoft messenger:mac from mactopia at Microsoft - Version 7.0.1 (latest one) and signed in to my Messenger account, and the message said the following: "Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet". I checked today, the service is fine, and I have been connected to the internet for the whole day, Still says the message, I even checked, even still, it did not work.
    Any way to fix this?

    sig,
I tried aMSN, and it says "Connection refused: reconnecting". The reason for aMSN was that i do not have a Microsoft account, and they are so stupid, they say "I understand that i will not be notified about replies." How do i sort out the connection being refused?

  • Just pluged in my airport extreme and it shows up in my wifi list, but it will not connect to the internet. its flashing amber. ive done just about everything on the instruction manual and website, and it still does not work.

so what do i have to do now? i think i just bought a new paper weight. but i am connected to the internet but the ethenet through the airport extreme.

When changing/adding/replacing network equipment, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of all your equipment to make sure that they are communicating properly with each other.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: The power-down order is not critical.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize and establish an Internet connection via your ISP.
Power-up the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes or until its status light is a solid green.
Power-up the computer(s). Your computers should now be able to access the Internet connected either by wire or wireless to the AEBS.
Note: The AEBS may continue to have a flashing amber status light. This would, most likely, mean that it requires additional configuration changes, like setting up wireless security or a newer version of firmware is available.

  • Just switched from Qwest DSL to CableOne cable internet and now my mac won't connect to the internet.

I've spent 2 hours on the phone with CableOne and they can't figure our why my MacPro isn't connecting to the internet through their Arris modem. I can connect to my network and see all my computers... so the ethernet port is working but the internet won't connect. I've tried Safari and Firefox browsers. My PC connects using the same ethernet cord with no problems. I've also tried connecting the computer directly to the modem with no results. And the ethernet port says it's connected and gives me an ip address. I'm out of ideas at this point. Any suggestions?

My other two Macbooks will connect to the net both wired and wifi. As of this morning my Mac Mini just stopped connecting all together. I have version 10.6.8. I only really use the Mac Mini to browse the web and watch movies off of my external hard drive.
I've tried connecting to another wireless network and the same thing happens. I tried connecting to different ports on my router and nothing. My Macbooks have zero issues with connecting. Any ideas???

it said on the mac page that you could connect to your phone with the built in bluetooth and then connect to the wireless network to access the internet. is this true or what?
thats gay. you would think that they would give us this capability. should we be expecting this in the future?

    is this true or what?
Yes, but not with an iPhone. The iPhone's Bluetooth connection can only be used with a headset at this time.
