Allowing users access to SQL Server 2014 analysis server cubes

I am using SQL Server 2014 analysis server and have created a number of cubes. These all function as expected however it seems that only windows users who are in an
administrator group can get access. All other users are denied access with the very vague error of 'Communication error'.
If I then add that user to our administrators group within the windows domain they instantly get access. I have defined roles for each cube (within analysis services) and then added both individuals (i.e. their windows domain user id) as well as their windows
domain groups to these roles but they still cannot get access - just get the error 'Communication error'.
I am using ADOMD on the client side which I know works because users in the administrators group can see the data. I have granted cube permissions using Management studio however no matter what front end we use (either our own App or EXCEL) if the user in
question is NOT in the administrator group in the domain they cannot get access to any of the cubes.
Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

Hamishr,
According to your description, you want to grant the access permission to cube for the users who are not belong to Administrator group, right?
By default, no one except a Server Administrator or Database Administrator has permission to query cubes in a database. Cube access by a non-administrator requires membership in a role created for the database containing the cube. Membership is supported
for Windows user or group accounts, defined in either Active Directory or on the local computer. So in your scenario, please ensure the steps to grant permission are correct, you can refer to the link below check it.

  • How to set up reverse proxy to allow user access portal site from internet

    Hi all,
I have installed 10g(10.1.2.0.2) AS on same machine(single IP for both mid and infra with different users respectively). there is a DMZ on which windows IIS is working through which we need to redirect the request to application server such that users access portal page from internet (within intranet all URLs are working fine). I have went through technet documentation where i found 3 ways : through this link

  • Allow user to edit their own Address Book server entry

    Hiya.
I'm looking for a way to let users edit their own information in the Address Book Server/Open directory. I've made sure the main group for users is in the AB Read-Write Groups group in WGM.
I've even checked the box in Server Admin that says "Allow users to edit their own contact information", but after adding the account to an address book client and authenticating as a user (For example, myself), I can't edit my own contact info anywhere that will push to the server.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

  • WGM not allowing users access to applications

    Good afternoon
Here's hoping someone has a tip for me.
New install of Leopard XServes (2 of them) in a (so far) Mac-only environment running Leopard. Running AFP, SMB, Open Directory, and Print services on both and DNS services on one and Web services on the other.
Created user groups and populated the groups with sample users on both XServes. Attempting to use WGM to limit access to various applications through the group preferences. Just doing some basic applications for now like Firefox, Camino, and First Class. Have allowed these applications in the Applications tab in WGM/Group Preferences/Applications, but done nothing in the Folders tab.
Users log into their respective servers successfully with automounted home folders, but aren't allowed to open applications other than Safari and iTunes (Apple's own apps). Other apps say they are not on the approved list of applications. Printing from Safari works. Dock is being controlled nicely (differently for members of different groups).
Some of the apps required signing and I signed the as the Administrator rather than the Directory Administrator. Could that be the problem?
    TIA
Greg (whose summer is being consumed by this)

    Hi,
Yes I had the same issue before. It turns out that when you sing applications to be included in the list of allowed apps, the applications residing on the local machines should also be the same apps that were signed. Meaning that since you have mad the Xserve signed the applications, the ones within the local machines are not the same anymore as that on the server. I think it looks for a signature on the apps on the local machines from the server, and since those are not signed they are disallowed.
You can make a resolution by either copying the apps that are signed and distributing them to each local machine to be use or just totally not signed them at all.
    Hope this helps

  • MS Access & MS SQL from a Java Server Page

I'm new to JSP but I know how to write Active Server Pages and was wondering how to set up a JSP so that I can access data in my MS Access database and also my MS SQL server.
Anyone have code snippets that connect to these two databases, retrieve and update data in a table?
Also, what's the easiest way to deploy a JSP page, I've got J2EE, JDK, Tomcat, Apache installed not sure how to just deploy a JSP page so I can test it.
    Thanks in advance,
    dez

the above connection example is ok, to deploy the jsp first you need of course
Apache with some servlet container such Tomcat or Resin or JServ...
For Tomcat there should be an folder in server root where the static pages are to be put
(as htdocs in apache for example) for every application, and usually is webapps and in this folder
you put another folder that will contain all of your stuff. In this folder, let say is named myapp, you
can put the jsp's and html's. Yes you can simply put it there but for the jsp to work you need in
this folder another one named WEB-INF that must have an xml file named web.xml where you must
set up a lot of stuff for your web-application, you can for test just to copy it from
    wbapps\examples\WEB-INF\web.xml and
delete everything between <web-app></web-app>. Then start or restart your web server and if the
jsp is in webapps\myapp and it is named test.jsp then type in your browser:
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/test.jsp.
Another thing: for the connection to work of course the connection parameters should be ok and the
database connection driver should be put in the tomcats classes classpath.
Just put it in webapps\myapp\WEB-INF\classes... where ... is of course the package folders.
Hope I'd helped you a little bit.

  • Is 'SQLCMD.EXE' the SQL Server 2008 executable to be added to a Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow remote access?

I would like to add a new Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow remote access by
    SQL Server 2008.
SQL Server Management Studio shows two TCP/IP instances, both of which are Enabled.
One uses port 1433 and the other uses ‘TCP Dynamic Ports’.
In  SQL Server, the server has ‘Allow remote connections to this server’ checked.
My Firewall allows port 1433 for the one TCP/IP instance.
Since the other instance is dynamic, I would like to add a new
Firewall 'Inbound Rule' to allow the SQL Server executable to run.
I’ve read that the SQL Server executable is commonly named SQLSERVR.EXE, but there is no such file on my laptop.
I’m assuming the executable that needs to be added to the Firewall 'Inbound Rule'
    is SQLCMD.EXE (in the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn).
Can anyone please confirm this?  (I'm running Windows 7).  Thanks.

    Hi Bontrager,
    Firstly, please run
Discovery Report to the detect the existing SQL Server 2008 instance. If SQL Server 2008 is installed properly on your machine, the sqlservr.exe should exists in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn.
Secondly, if SQL Server 2008 is configured to use dynamic port, it is difficult to configure the firewall to enable access to the correct port number because the port selected might change every time that the Database Engine is started.
Therefore, if a firewall is used, please reconfigure the SQL Server 2008 to use the static TCP port by using SQL Server 2008 Configuration Manager.
For more information, please review this
article. After that, you can add the port number in firewall inbound rule.
Thirdly, if you want to connect to  SQL Server 2008 from outside the firewall by instance name, SQL Server Browser should be turned on and you'll have to allow the SQL Server Browser through the firewall, which is UDP port 1434.

  • Cannot connect to Analysis server

    Gooday ,
I am trying to log in to our analysis server using my windows authentications, for some reason i am not able to and i get this error
    "Cannot Connect to "ServerName\Instance"
"The Execute element at line 6, column 60 (namespace urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis) cannot appear under Envelope/Body. (Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services)"

    Hi Smacoba,
First to ensure that you have the corresponding permission to access this database, you can refer to the link below to see the details.

  • How to allow user upload file on applet??

Sorry I'm new to programming here, but I'm trying to allow user to upload a file to the server so the program inside the server can user the file as input.
I've noticed that JFileChooser, the ideal class for this, is not allowed on the applet, so I don't know how to go about doing this.
    Thanks for any input!

    ok
you wish to transfer a file from applet to server.
    1. Applet gets the file
the applet needs to access the file System therefor it must b a signed applet to get aound the security restrictions. This is why the JFileChooser doesn't work. Check out the tutorials on jars and applets, particularly the security notes.
    2. opens a connection with the server
so the applet has a file and needs to send it. there needs to be a service of some form on the destination computer to execpt the file. Perhaps you write your own perhaps you use HTTP.
    3. server software stores the file
where an applet is an mini application that runs within the confines of the web browser. a SERVLET is a service program which runs with in the confines of a server, such as a web server.
this is a lot easier to do HTML rather that applet in my opinion but which ever.

Can someone explain what settings I would need in Active Directory or Local Admin/Permissions. I need a decent explanation of how this works. Much of the answers people give for setting up Kerberos are for Single server setup or they have missed

  • Adaptive Processing Server & Report Job Server Stopped

    Hi!
I am using BOXI 3.1 on windows server 2003 datacenter and we have a clustered environment.  Our most of the reports are Deski reports (1195) out of which around 56 reports are scheduled.
Adaptive processing server, Multidimensional Analysis server & report job server got stuck randomly and the only way left is to stop/start them.
It was happening from last few days and now from today it is not getting started.
I have restarted SIA several times but of no use. Suddenly after 2 hours they are in running stage. I am very confused with the strange behavior of BOXI servers.
Do anyone have clue on this.
This happens always at the time schedule instance start running.
    Thanks & regards,
    Saurabh Gupta

Adaptive processing server, Multidimensional Analysis server & report job server  are not used in Deski report procesing at all.
To find out what happens, you need to review Event Viewer logs, enable tracing on this 3 servers.
Or simply stop and disable them to give more resources to your Deski processing

    Hi Adil,
According to your description, you want to implement SQL Server Analysis Services Clusster and Analysis Services Load Balancing, right?
In SSAS, we can design highly available solutions in Analysis Services by using: network load balancing (NLB) technologies, failover clustering technologies, or both. For the details about implemention, please refer to the links below.

  • SQL Server 2005 replaced with SQL Server 2014 trying to connect front end Access as guest (read only ODBC)

We have replaced a SQL Server 2005 with a SQL Server 2014 (new physical server.)  Have the new server set up to use SQL Server login OR Windows user login. Had old server connecting (for a particular DB) to front end Access (2010 or 2013) as guest for
anyone logged into the Windows NT Network with a read only ODBC connection. Have the DB in the new server set to include guest as db_datareader (with only SELECT permission for the securables of each table and view being linked) but when any Windows user not
specifically listed as a SQL DB user tries to use the front end they get an error of:
    Microsoft SQL Server Login
    Connection failed:
    SQL State: '28000'
    SQL Server Error: 18456
[Microsoft][OCBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user {domain\user}.
After closing that pop-up window a server login window appears. Of course, since the guest user is not specifically listed as a user in the DB that fails also. It seems like there should be a very simple solution to this, but I can't seem to find it. I want
to allow anyone logged in on the Windows system (locally) to be able to open the MS Access file (on their work station machine) and run their own (read only; select) queries on the SQL Server database. Any suggestions?
Thanks a billion in advance ----

Thanks for the response Olaf. I have now spent weeks researching this. I realize that using the guest account in most situations is not advised. As mentioned, I have restricted the guest account to allow the db_datareader role only, and have explicitly denied
all other roles, as well as allowing select only, and still have no access for the guest account.
The suggested fix in the second link you provided, of using Windows groups is not plausible for my situation either. We are a scientific field research institution, with a few long term users and lots of users that may have Windows accounts for a few months,
and then they are gone. It would be a nightmare for the network tech to try to keep a group account up to date, and we need to give access (read only, of course) to anyone logged into the system. Realize that the ONLY access of any kind to this database is
thru MS Access ACCDB, using a (by default) read only OCDB connection.
This type of access is used particularly because researchers need to be able to set up their own queries, and the MS Access query interface is particularly convenient for people who are not themselves SQL experts, yet are trying to get some very advanced
levels of output. Putting the database online is not practical because then we are back to the need for a comprehensive query interface, and just picking up general subsets of the data online (from a basic web page search feature) would be out of the question,
since the result set would involve hundreds of thousands if not millions of records.
So - that said - what exactly would you suggest, assuming we don't have the funds to buy a whole new system, and have spent plenty of money with Microsoft's Enterprise level MS Office so that all work stations have MS Access, and Microsoft's SQL Server,
as well as running our network on Microsoft's network software.

  • How do you allow SQL Server 2014 Express for remote connection and in firewall?

I'm sorry if this was answered here before.
I installed SQL Server 2014 Express and it is working perfectly. I want my server to be accessed through LAN. It is a named instance.
I searched the internet and here's what i did:
    1. Through the SQL Configuration manager, I enabled all the Protocols of my Instance (TCP/IP, Named Pipes and Shared Memory). I changed in the IP Addresses the "IP ALL" TCP Dynamic Ports to 1434.
    2. In the Firewall I made an Inbound Rule to allow the Program (%ProgramFiles% (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MyInstance\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe)
    3. I also made 2 Inbound Rules to allow (TCP/IP Port 1433) and (UDP Port 1434).
    4. Restarted my instance. SQL Server Browser and  SQL Server Reporting Services are also running.
    5. No Luck I cant still access the server using a different computer in the network.
    Please help.

    Hello,
In Express Edition by default remote connections are disabled, you have to enable it first:
Configure the remote access Server Configuration Option
It's always a two way communication, so you have to create also outbound rules, not only inbound, and this on server as well as on client side; see
Configure a Windows Firewall for Database Engine Access
