Alsa-mixer can't start

Hi!
I don't know where to start this topic really but after a reboot volti couldn't start in the start in the fluxbox-systray and i couldn't get any audio. When i tried to start alsamixer with alsa-mixer, amixer commands alsamixer couldn't start and neither gnome nor xfce4-mixer could start and when i tried running the CLI ALSA frontend the terminal prompts: "cannot open mixer: No such file or directory" amixer prompts: "amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory".
Now i tried using different frontends and multiple google-searches didn't find me a solution, from a live cd i could access ALSA, i tried "ls /dev/snd/control*" which also couldn't find file or directory. My user is added to audio-group in /etc/group. Alsaconf can't find any soundcard or drivers. There is no /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf either?
Now the really curious thing is pacman, which works flawlessly apart from this can't uninstall or install alsa, alsamixer. alsautils. Only the gtk frontends. but i can find the applications using the locate command.
I think this could be a udev issue. I updated it recently and I fooled around a little with udev to enable auto mount of usb and such as described in the arch-wiki. But I don't where to start searching or how to check where the problem lies.
I would be really thankful for any advice on where to look or help concerning this problem.

OK, but that doesn't help with the kernel. Rebuild initramfs
mkinitcpio -p kernel26
and reboot.

Can't Start Pulseaudio

Hi,
I don't know why but I can't start pulseaudio or alsamixer. I used to be able to start them, but I forgot what I had to do to get them running. I was just using it as a simple volume control when I had it working.
I've tried:

Can't start mysql

when I type "rc.d start mysqld" it displays busy for a while, then fails. At this point it does not generate an error message. I have changed the permissions of /var/lib/mysql recursively to 777. I have also created the mysqld directory in /var/run and given it 777 permissions. I hope I have included all the relevant files.
I have read every suggestion on the internet and gotten nowhere. Please help a noobus out. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I seem to have had an issue with mysql as well and it appears to be that I don't have a sock file as I have checked /var/run/mysqld for mysqld.sock and it does not exist so would that be what is stopping mysql server from starting and if so how do I create the sock file ??

Update - Actually I solved my problem to, it was to do with my log files filling up but that also led to the bigger problem of a failing HD oh what fun anyway got there before any major data loss.

I have reached full memory capacity on my 500GB Time Capsule. I am considering purchasing a 2TB Time Capsule. Do I need to resave all existing data on the new hard drive or can I start afresh? Or can I link both time capsules to operate independantly?

You may not need to buy a new Time Capsule.
You can connect a USB drive to the Time Capsule, and use it in addition to the TC's internal HD. You may need a powered USB hub as well.
Exactly what is on your TC? If it's only Time Machine backups, you may not need to do anything -- Time Machine will delete the oldest backup(s) automatically when it needs room for new ones. But if you have more than about 250 GB on your internal HD, that 500 GB may not be large enough to keep backups long enough.
If you have other data on the TC's internal HD, besides your backups, you could back up to the external HD and use the internal for the other data, or vice-versa. But TM backups cannot "span" two drives, and you shouldn't mix backups and other data on the TC's internal HD.

Can't start GTK apps on Kdemod

Hi,
I'm very new to Arch, but I've managed to install some things I need so far. I did a FTP install and then installed x and kdemod, fixed screen resolution, installed nvidia driver, configured alsa. I think I want to stay on Arch, I really like it's speed and the package manager pacman.
Anyway I can't start GTK apps, currently I've Firefox, Seamonkey and Gparted installed but when I click on their shortcuts in K menu nothing happens, when I try to start in terminal I get

Created weblogic domain, but can't start on wls 10, using config.sh on linx

don't know why it's screaming about the boot.properties being wrong, is there a specific variable I can see in the scripts to explicit set location .

Hi All,
I am using the Bea Application server 10.0.MP1 and want to start the respective app servers using nohup ./startWeblogic.sh.
However every time I use the nuhup.out command, it complains with the error:

I have been reading your threads and have created the boot.properties file. I have placed in the following directory:
- /tezaam/apps/bea/user_projects/domains/xxx_domain/security
The boot.properties file contains two lines:
username=weblogic
password=weblogic
Question: Is is in the correct directory path or should it reside elsewhere as I am not using a nodemanager and start each AdminServer on its own.
Appreciate feedback.

Creative Mixer 'can't register tray icon' after updating dri

I have Soundblaster 6pci and was having problems with 'warbled' sound. I updated the driver and now every time I reboot, I keep getting the error "Creative Mixer can't register tray icon" and the arrow by my startup programs won't appear. The mixer is checked in msconfig. If I do a system restore or reinstall the old driver, the mixer starts on reboot, but then I have no sound. Even doing a clean reinstall of the original driver doesn't repair the sound.
Any suggestions?

The app will be in following folder:
Win:Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC
Mac:Applications /Adobe Photoshop CC
If it not there Run the Cleaner tool to remove Ps CC :http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html . Restart your system and then try installing Ps again from CC app.

PulseAudio can not start

PulseAudio always stop recently with some unknow problem
sometimes it can be solved by restart the daemon manually
but sometimes even can not start the daemon
i've try to restart alsa but still can not start pulseaudio
the only one way to let my system have sound is reboot
i just want to kown why?
because always reboot is troublesome

You don't need ck-launch-session nor be in the audio group (or anything other than users). You shouldn't run pulseaudio system-wide either.
For logind permissions to be applied to X it needs to be started on the same tty which you logged in on. Most Display Managers should handle this correctly.
Please paste your ~/.xinitrc, the output of pacman -Q xorg-xinit and lastly; Update: Are you currently booting with systemd?
Edit: The reason your sound isn't working is because you don't have an authenticated session on tty2, this means that the ACL's drop the permissions. See here (again) and take note of '/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/70-uaccess.rules'. Follow the rest of that section and the link to Preserving your Session.

ALSA mixer keeps changing

Completely randomly without touching any settings, sometimes the volume goes right down on the left speaker so I check ALSA mixer and it has changed what can cause this? If I change setting in the mixer they do save across reboots this just seems random. Is there a config file or anything to do to make sure it stays locked? Thanks for any help

I use pulseaudio as well but not using mplayer seems to have fixed it for me (I hope for good) I've just removed mplayer and gnome-mplayer and just use VLC. Bit of a shame because I prefer mplayer to VLC more minimal looking.
Edit- just to add to this, uninstalling mplayer also solved another problem I had not being able to mute the volume using the gnome main volume control. Should I post this somewhere it could be looked into, and is it worth the time and effort? I need mplayer for devede (which isn't installed because the sound comes out messed up, which by the sounds of things is to do with mplayer)

Alsa mixer channels disappeared(more Gnome 2.28 problems)

Two controls have vanished from my Alsa mixer - HDAIntelAlsamixerSide and HDAIntelAlsamixerSurround. They're still listed and checked in gconf-editor, under apps - volume control, but have vanished from Gnome Volume Control, and also from alsamixer in a terminal. I'd rather like them back, as they're the ones which have always been incorrectly controlling my surround and headphone outputs! (As a bonus, if anyone can tell me how to correct that, I'd be very grateful...)

Please provide more details like: Server OS, Java version, and what type of database you are using for the FM Server. Have you considered using a newer version of FM Server?

I can not start Enterprise Manager web page.
Here is my steps:
1. Start enterprise manager
emctl start
Waiting for EM to initialize ...Started
2. Check status:
emctl status
EMD is up and running : 200 OK
3. Start the web page
http://myhost:1810/
4. get following error
"There was no response. The server could be down or is not responding"
System info:
Database: 8.1.7.2
OAS: 9.2.0.2
JDK: 1.3.0_02
Server OS: SunOS 5.8
My question is where is the log file of enterprise manager and what the problem is.

"can not start a job" issue in AWM

I am maintaining my cube from PLSQL with following options
1. buildtype = "BACKGROUND"
2. trackstatus = "true"
3. maxjobqueues = 3
i get following error when i see the "olapsys.xml_load_log" table
***Error Occured: Failed to Build(Refresh) DB_OWNER.MY_ANALYTICAL_WORKSPACE Analytic Workspace. Can not start a job.
Can anybody explain when and why this error occurs? I have wasted a lot of time searching for this issue, but have found no person facing such issue.

This problem can occur on any platform.
Symptoms
- We have an AW maintenance / refresh script or procedure that contains BuildType="BACKGROUND", so that the AW maintenance task will be sent to the Oracle Job queue.
- When we execute the AW maintenance / refresh script or procedure, we do not get any errors in the foreground, the script/procedure has been executed successfully.
- However when we look into the build/refresh log (see <Note 351688.1> for details) we see that the maintenance/refresh task failed with:
13:29:39 Failed to Submit a Job to Build(Refresh) Analytic Workspace <schema>.<AW Name>.

Cause
User who tries to create a job (executes DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB() procedure) does not have the sufficient privileges.
Solution
1. Identify the user under which the job is supposed to be created. This user is not necessarily the same as the user who launched AW build/refresh script or procedure. Get the corresponding username from one of the %_USERS views e.g. from ALL_USERS.
e.g.
SELECT user_id,username FROM all_users WHERE user_id=91;
2. Identify the system privileges currently assigned to the user by connecting as the user whom the privileges need to be determined, and execute:
SELECT * FROM SESSION_PRIVS ORDER BY PRIVILEGE;
3. Ensure that the CREATE JOB privilege is listed.
The CREATE JOB privilege can be granted in various ways to a user:
- via role OLAP_USER or via role OLAP_DBA (see view ROLE_SYS_PRIVS for what privs are assigned to a role):
GRANT OLAP_USER TO <username>;
- explicitly
GRANT CREATE JOB TO <username>;
