Alternate ID blocking access to iCloud

I recently changed my Apple ID password. I am not exactly sure why but Apple seemed insistent. Since then when I open Notes I keep getting a message that my MacBook cannot access iCloud because of a problem with my alternate Apple ID. I can't seem to find out why this is, where to access my alternate ID or how to get rid of it for that matter. My primary ID seems to be working fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds to me like you may have gotten caught by a phishing email. Maybe you should consider contacting Apple's account security team...

I'm not sure I understood you correctly, but it seems to me you need to define stbFile outside of the function as a global variable (like you did with stPath). That way it would maintain its value even when the function is finished and you could use it to open the file later on. Is this what you wanted to do?

Previous posters on different threads to same issue stated that resetting iPad by simultaneously holding down Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds will initiate a hardware reset (ignore the slider to shutdown) and clear the issue.
Prior to upgrading my iPad to 6.1.2, it went into the same iPad bricking modal dialog. Apple has an OS issue that needs to be resolved. Go to icloud.com on your computer and see if you can locate it, as explaned here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f2442. It will only work if you have Find My iPad enabled, and it has a connection to the internet with your settings unchanged. You have the option to lock it or erase it remotely if it can be tracked (http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f0165). However, if you erase it you will no longer be able to track it.

Needed: access to icloud in safari upload dialog

I would like to make the iPad my only computer for school. However, one of the only things preventing me from doing that is the need to upload files to our university educational website. We are required to upload documents into Moodle. I can write those documents in Pages, and now in iOS 8, I can store PDF versions of them in iClould. However, when I got to a website in Safari, and click an "Upload" button, then dialog only gives me access to my photos.
We need a way for the "file select" dialog to have access to our iCloud storage so we can submit our files to external systems.

I have iCloud turned on, location services on, find my phone works but when I try to access iCloud via Safari on the phone it takes me to a page Apple.com,
iCloud then three options
set up iCloud on my phone (i have)
Install Find my phone, it is installed and it works from my MBP
or install find my friends, I don't need that I have no friends.
my calendars and contacts and bookmarks and all are all sync'd and working on the phone, but i thought if I typed in iCloud.com on the phone in Safari I would go to my iCloud web page that looks like this on my Mac.
Is that NOT how iCloud should/would look on my phone via Safari?
This is maybe a dumb question after 3+ year of iPhone'ing

I've been playing with a Galaxy here at work and here's what I've found so far - please feel free to jump in and suggest alternative methods to configure or access the various icloud components.
So the original Q: Can you access your icloud account on Android?
Not entirely: the website can't be used from an android browser (not properly - even with Dolphin HD and posing as different browsers it won't load correctly. So Find my iphone is out, so is the address book or looking at your e-mail or calendar just in a browser window
I was able to setup my e-mail using the IMAP settings published here:

Be sure to setup the account manually - and note if you have trouble using SSL try TLS (that worked for me)
Address book is a no go so you'll have to use iTunes to sync all your contacts over to Gmail - if you still have an iPad it means managing contacts in two places though . iWork is an Apple proprietary bit so don't expect much there.
So in my case, if I'm really going to make the switch to a Galaxy from my iPhone it really means I'm going to have to switch to using google as the backend. The timing to swap over to a galaxy/android phone is not the greatest - given that I'd have to give up my Apple addiction (syncing photos and itunes and losing access to my device tracking). Plus I still have an iPad and a mac and like living in the Apple ecosystem. I think I'll wait and see what the new iPhone looks like before I commit

(I think the daughter got he better end of the deal!) I believe if you change the password and user id one of the devices it will stop that from occurring. But I'm not the one to tell you how to do it; someone like "Illaass" (Illaass seems to know how to correct / fix almost anything!) will know how if you don't. Just look for the "cat" icon.

Blocking access to file sharing (AFP/SMB) from outside of network

Hello all,
Is there a way to block access to file shares from outside of our LAN? I have a machine that has some sharing turned on (it is also my email server) and I can reach it across the internet and mount shares as if I was in the office.
How can I block this access? Both SMB and AFP?

Justin, thank you for your reply. The machine is on a public ip address and is not behind a NAT router. I've turned on the software firewall and that is working now. However, I imagine it would be better to use a hardware firewall. Any suggestions on a good one? Thank you.

How do I access Firefox when Norton 360 firewall seems to be blocking access but all links on Norton 360 default to Mozilla page which can't connect?

I'm writing this via a Windows Explorer browser window which should tell you the problem, or at least that I can't connect through Mozilla Firefox.
Mozilla has been my default for years and I've always had Norton, 360 for the last few years. I've been through the traditional update problems with Toolbar/ID Safe and both of those are working fine.
Both were updated to absolute latest version within the last week due to an Update/Restart problem I was having with Windows 8.
There were some periodic problems with initializing the Norton problems which generally led to a Firefox not responding situation.
But I was able to run both quick and complete scans yesterdays and the Norton Autofix tells me no problems with their program/app.
I just downloaded newest Mozilla 25.0.1 last night again as last resort because I can't access Firefox beyond the homepage.
Spotify also told me there appeared to be a firewall blocking access. I also can't access iTunes.
I went to Windows 8 Action Center and it listed Norton 360 as controlling the firewall.
But I went to the allow apps through Windows Firewall tab in System anyway and didn't see any listing for Mozilla or Firefox there (maybe you have a less obvious filename).
My own network connection is working fine, obviously I'm on Explorer and no problems with my other computer.
I'm going to contact Norton to deal with this problem, too.
But my real problem now is that any attempt to contact the Symantec/Norton help/support site is automatically sent through a Firefox page which can't connect.
Right now I can't figure out how to do a tech chat or something to work at it from their end.
So that's why I'm here asking if you've run into this or know any way around it.
Obviously, the quicker a response the better.

I don't know if this answer solves it, but I did contact Norton Support through IE and the tech had me download Firefox again...just like I did the night before on my own. But for the moment, for whatever reason, all those issues have gone away, knock on wood three million times. I can access Norton support pages, I can get on Spotify and I can reach the iTunes store.
I will freely admit to not being a great computer person but I have no idea why my machine did this to me all weekend and why it cleared up now, unless the Norton tech did some behind-the-scenes tweakery. But for now, I'm okay and things are working, knock on wood four million more times (figure I better up the ante).

I would like to be able to use my iCloud albums to organize my photos but if I cannot access them from apps it seems pointless. I will end up having to maintain both an iCloud library and a separate iPhoto library which is more work that seems necessary. I want everything easy to organize and access. It seems like in this age where most people are more likely to use their mobile devices than their Macs (and some do not even own Macs) that there should be a mobile solution. Hopefully I am simply without a clue and you folks can help me out with a fix or a source of info as a solution. I have not found answers yet.

You can set up an additional "secondary" iCloud account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendar>Add Account>iCloud and entering the ID and password. There are some restrictions on secondary accounts.
Only the primary account can be used for Photo Stream, Bookmarks, Documents, iCloud Backup and Find My iDevice. Also, Push Mail only works for the Primary Account; Secondary Account Mail is Fetch.

I am not able to access my icloud account as the apple id it defaults to no longer exists and when i try to use it by resetting the password it says email verification sent but I never receive anything. It is hung up on verifying and I can not do a thing

The apple id I used to set up my ipad no longer exists and it is the same id for icloud and itunes. I have changed my apple id but can not access my icloud account to change the id. I am hung up on "verifying" and have tried everything. It does not send any emails verification even though it says it has sent it. I have trie the security questions and it says wrong birthdate but it is not the wrong birthdate. I can not delete the account without a password and when I enter the password that was originally with that id it says wrong password. As a result I am not able to update twitter, facebook, etc and basically unable to do anything until I can delete and reestablish this icloud account.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
