Alternative database

Is there anyonewho can help me to install the wli on a different database
then those who are certified. For instance an informix or mysql database. We
already imported the schema from an oracle to an mysql. The server boots but
i get an sql exception every 10 seconds. We have located this problem to be

scott - kevin is correct in that an export backup will not be much good in the event of a drive failure or other large failure affecting multiple drives/datafiles/tables/...
the benefits of hot backup should be obvious. i think the backup agent software is a really good idea because these agents: typically integrate with the backup management software to provide tracking of what database backup is on what tape, when it was backed up, what to do if there is a tape error, and stream data to multiple tapes, etc; typically integrate with oracle EBU or recovery manager; typically automatically detect when additional oracle datafiles have been added; and typically back up and manage the archive log directory as well. sometimes they can also provide snap backups, and other sophisticated backup schemes if you are using emc or other high-end disk systems.

Alternative Database backup solution's?

Currently I am backing up my database by running an export and backing up the dump file to tape. What can be the major pitfalls of doing it this way? Is there a better way without having to buy the Oracle agent for my backup software? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

MS Access alternative for Mac

Hiah - I am looking for an alternative database type program to Microsoft Access to run on my Mac... is there one?

James Send to Junk Mail

Hello , i am using james 2.2.0 installed on a server with a online DNS , it recives mails properly , but when i try to send emails ( also when using Authenticated SMTP) , mail go to junk mails ( as hotmail and yahoo) , When i use Outlook express outside the server to send mail i get the following error :

you have to change the config.xml to allow the server accept relay mails from your host machine from which you are sendign the mail ...
ie

ADF BC Attribute with VC of CONTAINS Ignores Choice List on the LOV

JDev 11g PS 1.
Objects:
- A view criteria with attribute defined as CONTAINS (literal)
- An LOV on that attribute with a default list type UI hint of Choice List
- ADF Faces query-table based in the VC
Problem: query-table ignores the Choice List and renders an Input Text.
Clue: Changing the operator to EQUALS causes the expected Choice List to be rendered in ADF BC.
If this is documented in the online help or in this forum, it is escaping me.
Anyone know the best workaround? Set the VC using EQUALS and switch it to CONTAINS in buildWhereClause() maybe?

Thanks for the fast reply and for the bug entry. Unfortunately stopping work is not an option. We've come up with a solution using a query listener that replaces EQUALS with CONTAINS before the query and resets it to EQUALS after the query (otherwise the component draws the text item after the query).
Maybe you can think of another solution to our requirement: display a single master record in the results table for a master-detail database view. For example, in an altered Oracle HR world, each DEPARTMENTS record is associated with multiple LOCATIONS records (through a DEPT_LOC table). A database view, DEPT_LOC_VW, based on that table also contains the location description and department description.
Users want to select and then edit (on another page) a department by querying by location. If we represent DEPT_LOC_VW in the query-table component, we see multiple result rows for a single department and that is unnecessary confusion for the purpose of editing a single department.
So we have created an alternative database view, DEPT_VW, based on DEPARTMENTS only, with an additional column -- LOC_LIST -- based on a function that returns a delimited list of all location codes for that department. This way, the user sees only one department record in the results table (although we lose the location description in the results -- not an issue) and is still able to query based on location.
A LOCATIONS_VW view contains the location code surrounded with the delimiiter. The DeptVw view attribute LocList contains an LOV based on that database view.
We want the view criteria to create a query condition:

Error in query ABAP using HANA as secundary data base

Uploading Spreadsheet data

Has there been any progress on this front?
I've read the previous posts on this topic & there still doesn't seem to an elegant solution short of exposing end-users to the Data Workshop or parsing pasted data from a Text Area (suggested but not documented how to do this).
In my business unit (Finance/Pricing) all serious number crunching is done on complex spreadsheet apps. & important calculated values (like price-points offered to customers) are transferred to an (MS Access) database for monthly & ad-hoc reporting.
At present it is a trivial exercise for me to automate the transfer of calculated values from the spreadsheet onto an MS Access form using VBA. This saves time & reduces transcription errors for end users, & they love this feature.
Our business unit is considering HTML DB as an alternative database to MS ACCESS, but it would be very difficult to persuade management if this also meant more data-entry & the greater possibility of transcription errors by the end users.
Do you know of any Javascript that could copy data out of an open Excel file, using named ranges onto a HTML DB form for saving into tables? or any other straightforward way to implement end-user transfer of values calculated in a spreadsheet into HTML DB?

HTML DB currently requires developer privileges to use its spreadsheet loading capabilities. There are example available in the HTML DB Studio (http://htmldb.oracle.com/studio) however that may help you build your own data loading screens.

Question about searching

Hi all,
I'm considering Oracle BDBJE for a project that stores visited url's (data) based on a key of ip-address (4 bytes) combined with a date (long) to make the keys unique.
If want to search on date (ignore ip) do I have to make a secondary database that has the date of the visited url's as primary index?
Does a method like Cursor.getSearchKeyRange, if supplied with partial key, always search a the beginning of the key? Or could I use it to search for a date by only supplying the date-part of the key? Prop. in this case the bytes for the date will be mistaken for the bytes of the ip-address that comes first in the key.

I'm not sure I have all of your data model yet, but I think you've given us enough for me to say you should likely try one or possibly two secondary databases.
If you have not already done so you should review the documentation on Secondary Indexes as found here:

Inserting/Modifying records is faster without using a secondary index. But the queries that you have identified would perform better with secondary indexes. But you should experiment with a few different approaches and compare that with your performance goals.
Also, if you have not already thought about this, I would consider using DPL to implement this, especially since you will be evaluating alternative database designs. You will find that the implementation time is faster and you can also make changes quickly.

You know your data best, but based on the info you provided here are my thoughts/alternatives:
Primary Database key = IP/Date or Maybe Date/IP is better if the Secondary for IP address exists
data = URL plus other data not sure what
Secondary Database Key = URL (I left out date because you said it is not likely that the same URL will exist for multiple dates).
Possible Secondary Database Key = IP address (Which URL's were visited by IP X).
Again, I think you may want to try out something like this a model your inserts and also your query performance. Feel free to post further questions about any results you are getting as you move forward.

Library limit & xml

Is there an alternative database for the iTunes library, beside the current one which uses xml? A friend has reached 84,211 songs and it won't add anymore without splitting the list into genres to continue adding to those genres but not as a whole list. And it's fair to say, working with a file that large is slow, and she's being nice.
Does Apple have solutions for users with large libraries which links the xml file to another database or databases? Or are there 3rd party solutions the iTunes settings accepts without breaking it, which is her experience. Knowing what little I do about xml, it's not the best choice for a music library, except for small ones (mine's only about 8,000 songs to date and won't exceed 20K when I'm done).

hey I have quite a same problem here with the new itunes 10.5 suddenly, adding more files now takes ages, better said the app stops to respond according to Activity monitor. and I only got over 21000 tracks in there now. any solution for that now? cause ive tried songbird for example and its not so good, but lets me add more tracks, but im strongly missing the Show duplicates function there. is there some clever solution how to reorganise the library so it works better and let me add more lfiles then? if i for example split it into two playlists and keep adding to one of them, will it still search for duplicates from both of them?

Using commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool?

It is possible to use commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool ing?
At far I tried SOA 8 does not work either Mckoi and AS400 databases jdbc drivers in a connection pool.
So having the experience with Tomcat and commons-dbcp with successfull connection pools, I am trying to use a alternative database connection pool, or use SOA8 connection pool using commons-dbcp and it with our AS400 db.
Do you think it is possible?

All I know i that I used this jtopen driver on tomcat with and without connection pool.
I used the same parameters, but SOA implementation or program is different. Maybe is the 1.4 api, maybe is the jdbc expected.
Really don't know.
What I know I as400 and mckoi drivers don't work where in Tomcat work ok.

Siebel Support for Encryption

My customer needs documentation detailing Siebel's support for encryption protocols across all layers
i.e
1) User Interface,
2) Web Session / Transport
3) Database Layer
4) Logs. Cookies
Is there any documentation that someone has prepared from field experience? or does product management maintain any such document?

I would start with the Bookshelf section on Encryption in the Security Guide. Beyond that I am not aware of any single document that addresses all types of encryption. Basic observations follow:
1. User Interface -- Since this is a web application, not sure how this differs from "Web Session". The communications between the end user's browser and the Siebel Web Server can be secured with standard SSL. Higher key lengths require that the Siebel Strong Encryption Pack be installed on both the Siebel Web Server(s) and the Siebel Application Server(s).
2. Web Session / Transport -- The SISNAPI communications between the various Siebel servers can by encrypted using RSA, MSCrypto, or SSL.
3. Database Layer -- This is dependent on the database being used and would be set at the client level for transport. As long as it is transparent to the Siebel application object manager, it should be fine. In terms of actual data storage, Siebel can do field level encryption for specific fields. Alternatively, database encryption utilities such as Oracle's Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) can be used as long as it is transparent to the Siebel application. Encryption of local databases are more restrictive and involve either encrypting the whole local database or not encrypting the local database.
4. Logs and Cookies -- Logs are not encrypted. Cookies can be encrypted in transit when using SSL. Also the session identifier can be encrypted.

[SOLVED] Displaying updated packages

I know that when I'm on the shell I can use pacman or yaourt to update my system, I can see if there is any new packages and update them. What I would like is a way to receive a daily email showing updated packages so I can remotely log on the server and update the system if I judge the updates important enough.
I already do a similar thing on my FreeBSD boxes (I'm more of a BSD guy than a Linux one, but I digress).
While thinking more about it, would something like this work:
pacman -Syy >/dev/null | yaourt --query --upgrades --aur

If you don't run "pacman -Su" first, then you may install a new package without updating one of the libraries that it depends on, which may break the package. That is why it is recommended to always run "pacman -Syu". It makes sure that you always have consistent dependencies.
Or course, if you know for sure that you will never install a package without running "pacman -u" first, then it doesn't matter. If that is not the case, it would be better to create a separate directory, symlink "/var/lib/pacman/local" into that directory, and then use that directory as the database directory in your scripts (pacman -Syb /path/to/dir). That way, the system database is not affected. To save further bandwidth, you can just copy the downloaded databases in the alternative database directory into the default database directory when you want to update the system databases.

Better alternative to header lines, use of logical database, field-symbols

Hello experts,
I am wondering if theres a better and faster alternative than declaring a header line for an itab. are work areas faster?
What is the use of logical database? can you please give me an example on how to use it in reports.
how do I use field-symbols? I am confused on how it works.
P.S. I recently installed SAP netweaver preview abap edition
in my home PC and I am wondering if I could practice BDC, user exits, etc. If so, how?

LDB's provides a lot of information, because they gather it from a lot of different tables...
A Field-Symbols is like a pointer in C++, like an alias for a variable...Here's a small example...

I just can't install SAPNWSP...I only got MiniSap...But I got all the development enviorment...Don't know about the User-Exits...Actually I don't think so...Because those "mini" systems doesn't come with any functional module.

Alternative ways of displaying image from database?

hi - I'm working with some legacy/inherited/already-written Forms that just use block triggers to 'select values into :Fields..' to populate the text boxes on the canvas.
Whenever I've managed to display db-based images before, it's always been on blocks that are based just on the table, and Forms shows the image okay.
These forms I'm using at the moment though aren't based on tables, they just get populated from the trigger.
I don't believe you can select into a blob/image, or at least I haven't been able to get that to work.
Are there any alternative ways of populating an image place-holder, with a blob field from the database? (other than using a table-based block)??

May be you can separate the image item to a DB block with primary key of the table and create a relation between two blocks. So when the first block is populated through trigger, it would fetch the image on 2nd block automatically.
